If you need help with anything else, in addition to having no personality, he offers zero solutions for IBS (there are medications like Vibrizi that actually give meaningful help!) and more or less just said you have an anxious stomach, work on your anxiety. Only went for a consult, but he requires you to wear a mask when you're in with him. If you'd told me that before scheduling, I would've found another Gastro. But whatever, I'm there, might as well get it over with. Office staff was nice enough, so that's why 2 stars. But the Dr. is a different story. The man actually asked me if I was adopted because I didn't know my parents' full medical history. Okay, maybe he's kidding, but that can be a touchy subject! I'm a little startled, but I press on. Might as well get it over with. Then I'm talking to him, toward the end of the visit, and he actually cuts me off, gets up, and walks toward the desk, telling me we're done. Dr. Buch got me in quickly when I needed a colonoscopy/endoscopy. He is very thorough and I am glad I chose to look for my own gastroenterologist rather than just take the one my primary recommended. My procedure was easy and comfortable. The surgical center was lovely as was the staff, and a procedure people kind of fear was not as difficult or scary as I had imagined. We gave him TWO chances! I shouldn't have to put even one star. His associate doctor misdiagnosed my son with Crohns and started him on pain meds that ruined his life since he was 19, he's now 40. Many years later we tried Buch again. We waited over 45 minutes for a prescheduled appt. He was late, rude, condescending. during the meeting I told Buch about the misdiagnosis and he said nothing. My son needed testing for hepatitis. At the end of the appt, Buch said his assistant would contact us to order the tests. We waited a few days, then we called, and called and called. For over a month!!! No response. He should lose his license. I'm surprised he hasn't He obviously did not take the physicians oath seriously. I see him at the market and I want to scream at him for ruining my son's life. I thought he'd be retired by now. Hopefully very very soon. Don't ruin your own life. Go elsewhere. read more

Im a bit shocked at myself for doing this but... I feel that I need to do it. First thing, I had a referral from my PCP, who is absolutely amazing... I call Dr. Buch and like everyone else, I'm told that I need a pre-meeting with the doctor. I schedule the appointment. What a waste of time!! I look back and feel like the only reason for the appointment was for them to bill my insurance for a visit. During the visit, I found Dr. Buch to be condescending and a bit of a god complex. He was going through my My Chart and was questioning things that quite honestly, were way out of his area of expertise... Stay in your lane. Im coming to see you for a colonoscopy because I'm over 50 and it's recommended. I dont need your opinion on my neurological disorders. BTW, I was diagnosed by one of the top Movement Disorders Specialists in the country (he was back east) and I was currently seeing one of the best on the west coast. as for the actual colonoscopy, it was fine... no pain and It was easy.... The next shocker... when I saw what was billed to my insurance company... especially knowing that I had to pay extra because the anesthesia is not covered. The amount is criminal and everything that is wrong with our system. On a lark, I did some checking as to what it would cost out of pocket if I would go to Canada, UK, France or even Taiwan... and it would have been 1/10th... Maybe the rudest most condescending uncaring Doctor I've ever been to. Has ZERO clue to the causes of SIBO. Has no Idea about the MMC or Motility of the Small Intestine. When I suggested that the PPI Omeprazole might be the cause or at least a contributing factor he got angry. He was so thorough and took a lot of time going through all my history to be sure he wasn't missing any details. It was quite refreshing since other Doctors I've been to seem to rush through everything and don't even read all of my test results, etc,, and talk fast and done! I can't say enough about Dr. Buch. He is all business, to the point, professional and extremely knowledgeable. My husband and I have been patients of his for the last 10 years. He has performed all of our colonoscopies and has been meticulous since colon cancer runs in both of our families. I recently met with him due to an urgent matter. I have been seeing Dr. Buch for over twenty years for a hiatal hernia/Barrett's esophagus condition and regular colonoscopies. I consider him to be an outstanding doctor. He is businesslike, straightforward, and compassionate and considerate of my worried nature. I recommend him to anyone who needs his specialized care. The office staff is wonderful. While setting up a recent colonoscopy and pre-procedure office visit, I spoke with Alexandra many times. She has always been considerate and is willing to take the time to answer my questions. And the EOSC staff is very helpful too. I have never had a scheduling or logistics problem with the office or EOSC, but I call well in advance to check about insurance coverage, scheduling, drop off and pickup procedures, verify receipt of information and the like so there are no last minute problems. So I called last month to make an appointment and they say I need a pre appointment. So I book it. Today at 10:30 am I get an email telling me about my colonoscopy appointment On August 31st. Cool Then at 1:40 I get an email saying they canceled my colonoscopy because I didn't have a pre appointment. I wrote back and said but I called and how do I have a colonoscopy without a pre appointment? So then, at 2:46 pm I get an email saying that I did have an appointment on the 18th that I didn't confirm. Jesus, so no reminder call or email just a call two days after the fact to say I missed an appointment. Needless to say I'm livid. What a great Doctor with a very attentive and more than helpful office crew. Unfortunately I'm dealing with some issues and have had an amazing experience this far with Dr. Buch. Prior and post procedure I was pretty nervous. The office staff was so kind and helpful I annoyingly thank them so many times they're probably over me at this point... Alex was incredible with follow up and making sure you were comfortable before and after any and all procedures, not to mention her impeccable follow up. Incompetent office staff, condescending doctor and a screwed up insurance claim. This is what I got when I made the (wrong) decision to see Dr. Buch for a colonoscopy. Office staff. They couldn't figure out how to book a surgery center that was in my network. Subsequently, I never did get the colonoscopy I originally came in for. Not only that, they mis-coded the insurance claim TWICE. Now I'm on the hook to pay for the consultation that never resulted in the procedure I came in for. Condescending doctor. Dr. Buch pretty much talked down to me the whole time during my consultation. I had a bad feeling about this guy from the start. Stay away! Stay FAR away! read more

The only good thing I can write about this doctor and office is that Alexandria and Natalie were quite helpful. My first bad experience was when I tried calling to setup a same day appointment due to medically urgent reasons. The medical assistant said she could not accommodate me, and simply didn't seem to care. During the course of my visit, Dr. Buch really didn't seem to listen to what I had to say. He kept interrupting me and did not even acknowledge that I had even spoken on several occasions. I mean, how are you supposed to care for your patient or administer drugs if you don't even listen to what your patients have to say? Also during the course of my initial visit with Dr. Buch, his front office staff sent the prescription that the doctor had written to my old CVS pharmacy in the area where I previously lived. Then, when I was finished they asked me where to send the prescription. I gave them the name of my current CVS pharmacy, and sent it over there as well without checking to see if the prescription had already been sent. About a half hour or so later, I get a text message from my pharmacy stating that they cannot fill my prescription for another 30 days as it will not be available until then. Not knowing what was going on, I called the pharmacy, and they basically reiterated what the text message said, so I called Dr. Buch's office back to find out what was going on, but they had no clue and tried to blame my pharmacy. I asked them to send it to Ralphs pharmacy instead, and about a half hour or so later, I get a similar text message from them. I tried Dr. Buch's office again, but they had no idea what was going on and could not help me. Finally, I received a text message from my old pharmacy stating that the prescription was filled, and then understood what had happened. My new CVS and Ralphs pharmacy could not fill the prescription because it had already been filled at my old CVS pharmacy. Therefore, when I called Dr. Buch's office back, THEY TRIED TO BLAME THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM SAYING THAT IT AUTOMATICALLY SENDS THE PRESCRIPTION TO THE PHARMACY THAT THEY HAVE ON FILE (EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD ASKED ME WHAT PHARMACY TO SEND IT TO WHEN I WAS JUST IN THEIR OFFICE). My next struggle was trying to get the surgery prep paperwork and other pre-op paperwork sent over to me to fill out. A week and a half after my office visit, I had received nothing, so I called the office to ask them to send the email they had promised to send me with all the files I needed. They stated that they had already sent the email, but would resend it. I later looked for it again (including my junk mail folder), but could find nothing. I called them back again, and they again stated that they had sent the email. After calling a third time, I had them repeat back to me the email address I gave them, and they confirmed that it was correct. IN THE END, I HAD TO CALL THEM LITERALLY FIVE DIFFERENT TIMES AND TALKED TO THREE DIFFERENT PEOPLE BEFORE THEY REALIZED THAT THEY HAD SPELLED THE WORD "YAHOO" WRONG IN MY EMAIL ADDRESS! More chaos ensued when I tried to connect with them via FaceTime for my followup appointment. They gave me a 10:30 apt, and stated that the doctor would call me. So I'm waiting with my iPad ready @ 10:25, and I waited until 10:45, but nothing. I decided to call them to find out what the problem was, and they stated that they did not have my phone number! YOU WOULD THINK THAT THEY WOULD WANT TO MAKE SURE THEY HAD MY PHONE NUMBER PRIOR TO SETTING UP A FACETIME APPOINTMENT! Also, I provided my phone number on the paperwork that I filled out on my initial visit. Next, Dr. Buch's office had stated that it was fine for me to take a Lyft/Uber to get back and forth to the surgical center, so I setup an appointment to have the procedure done. However, when I called the surgical center to go over expenses, etc. they said I could take a ride share to get there, BUT NOT ON THE WAY BACK DUE TO LIABILITY REASONS. My appointment was later that week, so I was forced to cancel and reschedule the appointment. Lastly, the Encino Surgical Center only performs colonoscopies on Thursdays, which is not good for me, so I had to find another facility. Dr. Buck's office staff informed me that the surgical center that is in the same building as their office is in network and I could go there on a Monday. I thought, this is perfect! So my friend picks me up from my home and drives me to the surgical center in Dr. Buck's building, BUT WHEN I ARRIVE, THEY INFORM ME THAT THEY ARE IN FACT NOT IN NETWORK AND THE PROCEDURE WILL BE BILLED AGAINST MY OUT OF NETWORK DEDUCTIBLE! This was after Dr. Buck's office assured me that this place would bill in network. After taking a day off work, after my friend took a day off work to provide transportation, and after I had done all of the procedure preparation, I ended up having to walk away without undergoing the procedure. I ended up finding a new doctor and facility to have the procedure done. read more

Dr. Buch and his staff are amazing, caring and have helped change and save my life. I have been to a few GI doctors in my day and this one is my favorite. I could not recommend him enough. He has a no BS attitude and tells things like they are, and still cares. Please understand he just wants to help and it seems some reviews might have been put off by his bedside manner. He is just direct and to the point, so decide if you want someone who will fix you or do you want to be coddled? On July 29th, 2021 I had my first appointment with Dr. Buch and I was very anxious about this evaluation. Dr. Buch put me at ease, listened to my concerns and immediately ordered a CT Scan with contrast and called me right a way to inform me that the image showed some issues and that I needed an endoscopy. I had a colonoscopy last week and woke up in SO MUCH PAIN (have a high pain threshold but this was 8 or 9 out 10), stomach horribly bloated - hard as a brick, throwing up and really alarmed when my blood pressure shot up to 200 (normally 120/70) in Recovery. I was literally sick to my stomach but feel they rushed me out of the outpatient surgery center because the doctor was a half hour late arriving and they seemed to be backed-up on patients waiting for other procedures. I thought I would lose it and be sick in the car while riding less than 3 miles home. Further, twice now they've billed me directly for the consultation and procedure that are 100% covered by insurance because they've sent invoices to the wrong place (instead of what's on the back of my medical insurance membership card they have on file). This is in strict contrast to the last colonoscopy I had years ago with another doctor (UCLA Medical Center). It was nothing like this!!! After the last procedure, my friend picked me up and we stopped at a nice restaurant for lunch on the way home. read more

I truly hate writing bad reviews, but I think you all deserve to know what a horrible place this is. Let me tell you why: First of all, I had a major abdomen surgery, and have been having horrible stomach pain lately. I made an appointment for today about 1.5 MONTHS ago! It was so long ago, that I even forgot when it was. Initially when I made the appointment over the phone, I told them that I had lost my health insurance member ID card, and they stated that it would not be an issue, as they would find it out for me. However, I show up to my appointment today and was told me that the number they have is not working. I personally work in the medical field myself, and have been doing so for many years now. I know good customers service versus poor, and this place definitely had the worst customer service I've ever had. The staff here ask that I leave after I was frantically trying to call my health insurance company whilst also looking for it online at the same time. They state that it is now 15 minutes after my appointment time, and they are running late. I try to accommodate and request that they see all of their other patients, and I will wait to be seen at the very end. Their response? Oh you are the last patient. They continue to ask that I leave, or pay CASH for this visit. Why in the world would I pay cash, out of my pocket, when I am already paying so much to have this health care plan? Eventually, the front girl receptionist ask her manager for approval to give me a few additional minutes to find my policy number. The manager only comes out to again ask me to leave or pay in cash! I inform her that I will be writing a review, and she REFUSES to give me her name. When I say refuses, I mean literally refuses. Then she just walks away, literally walks away, while I am talking to her. The front girl receptionist, bless her soul, she really did try. She even asked the manager to give me her name, however, manager refuses to give me her name and states that I am being malicious by writing this review. What do you think? Am I being malicious by writing this review? Or are they just being an ass because they don't want to work 15 minutes overtime? So much for patient care huh? Money comes first for this doctor and this office, patient care is not a priority for them. Avoid going this place, they don't deserve your money.
