Came here on a trip to Nashville because I saw great reviews on Yelp and TikTok. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, small and welcoming. I also always appreciate a farm to table restaurant. We got a variety of things to try for our party of four. To start we got the sourdough bread with seaweed butter, kale salad, beef tartare, and yellowfin tuna carpaccio. The kale salad was my stand out app, I loved the fresh black currents in it. For the mains we got the clam linguine, chicken, and snapper. The stand out here was the linguine and the chicken. They make their pasta fresh, and you could definitely tell. The chicken was covered in the most delicious sauce and has garlic confit which was literally chefs kiss. read more

Rolf & Daughters has been on my list for a while, and it definitely was worth the hype, especially the pasta. I walked in without a reservation and they had a table available on the patio, exactly what I wanted! Everyone was so kind and service was friendly and attentive. For starters, I tried the pork sausage dish with clams stuffed in a pepper. It was definitely an interesting and creative preparation and incredibly filling. It was good and I appreciated the flavors but would try a different starter next time! I really enjoyed the spaghetti. It tasted like summer on a plate - light, fresh, and bursting with bright tomato flavor. The sauce was simple but layered, letting the quality of the ingredients shine. Overall, an enjoyable meal and a space I'd love to come back to try other menu items....I have heard rave reviews about a corn pasta here and I'd like to try sitting in the interior dining section which had a cozy, inviting feel. read more

I was very excited to try this restaurant. It's been around for a long time, and the space itself is beautiful. We arrived fairly close to closing time, so perhaps that played a role in our experience. We started with the $8 sourdough bread. The bread was clearly fresh, but it was served cold. It came with a seaweed butter, and neither of us felt the flavors worked well together. We asked for regular butter instead and were charged an additional $1. I don't mind paying for extras, but it added to the disappointment when the food itself wasn't enjoyable. My cocktail sounded and looked like a mezcal Old Fashioned, but it tasted more like cough syrup and had virtually no mezcal flavor. After one sip, I decided not to order another drink. I mentioned it to our server, but nothing really changed. The rigatoni had potential flavor-wise, but the pasta was very tough. I asked for it to be cooked longer, but it came back still undercooked. The $40 pork dish was even more disappointing. It was served with lamb's quarter, which I later learned is a wild spinach-like vegetable. The combination simply didn't work for me. The dish also included mushrooms and a blueberry sauce. Somehow the blueberries tasted sour, and the overall flavor profile was very strange. Our server had recommended the dish, saying it was very good, so I went with it. Unfortunately, it was one of the least enjoyable restaurant dishes I've had in quite some time. To her credit, the server offered to bring me something else, but I was ultimately charged for the replacement item as well. By that point it was already 9:30 PM, we'd just come from an event, and we were starving. My partner is generally good about simply deciding not to return to a restaurant and moving on, so we ate what we could and called it a night. What bothers me most isn't the bill--it's feeling like we wasted both our evening and our money. We had been having a wonderful night until dinner. Went here for date night and had a great time! It's quite tiny inside from what we imagined it would be like, but truly a unique place that's tucked away in the city. The sourdough bread was a recommendation from others online and the seaweed butter paired with it really nicely! Our drinks were yummy and presentation of the food was lovely. Our server, Molly was super knowledgeable and attentive. Not normally our type of place but would love to go back and try the next seasonal menu. I've been on the hunt for more black sesame treats, and the raspberry sherbet with cremolata and salted black sesame seed butter was exactly what I was looking for--the most perfect, not-too-sweet dessert. Creative, balanced, and completely unforgettable. I'd go back just for that. The stracciatella on toast was another standout--simple but incredibly well executed. My second favorite dish was the lightly roasted snap pea with fennel, spring onion, and chili--fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavor. So good. This was my out-of-town birthday dinner choice and it was a great one! We decided to take a chance and drop in without making a reservation. We took an Uber to Germantown, the restaurant housed in a cute building, some string lights and an address to identify. Greeted by at the host stand on entry, with a smile. We let them know we didn't have a reservation, but they had 2 spots at the bar for us. It was fairly open when we were seated but glad we got there early as it filled up quickly. The waiter/bartender greeted us and reviewed the menu; he was interactive with all the guests and really enthusiastic about the food. Storm King was my drink of choice, still on my Mezcal kick, this drink was really good! La Luna Mezcal, Street Puma Scotch, Cynar, Ancho Chili, Honey, Lime, Pepper. Smokey with just the right amount of kick from the chili and pepper salt Ordered Sourdough bread with seaweed butter and Dry Aged beef tartare. Sourdough was really good; the butter was salty but couldn't detect other seaweed attributes. The beef tartare was good, it was a really big portion. My main dish choice was trofie pasta dish the bartender described as very spring like. When it came it was a fresh green pasta and boy was it delicious!!! The trofie pasta was an excellent vehicle for the sauce of leek, pine nut, maitake, and cultured butter. Too bad I don't live in Nashville! I've had hundreds of pasta dishes in San Francisco's Italian neighborhood of North Beach and all over Manhattan, Chicago and Los Angeles. The Canestri (with snails) and the Fusilli scored at the top of my all time favorites. The flavors were bold and innovative. The atmosphere was very cozy and vibey, making it a really enjoyable place to sit down and eat. The service was good throughout the evening, attentive without being overbearing. We started with the tartare and then shared the Fusilli with zucchini and the Canestri with snails. Out of everything we tried, the fusilli was definitely the favorite. The sauce was spectacular and really stole the show. I also appreciated that everything is made in-house, and you can tell there's a lot of care and effort that goes into the food. That being said, I felt that some of the dishes were a little overpriced for what you're actually getting. The place is dark, cozy and pretty lively. Service here was standard, a couple of staff members seemed like they didn't want to be there but were still respectful. Recommendation was 2-3 plates per person depending on how hungry you are. I'm got three cause I was starving. Scallops - Scallops was raw with a citrus spicy sauce that reminded me of tom yum. I typically love scallops but these were not it. The scallops were more buttery in flavor which I think it's better if seared. If raw, better with a sweeter scallop. Tonnareli - A green pasta with mussels - I appreciate that they de-shelled it for me. The pasta was el dente. If you like pesto you would like this. Fuyu Perssimon Custard - You need to order this! It is not overly sweet and the custard was silky smooth. Overview: Get the dessert and stick with the pastas it is what they are known for. We live nearby, and for some reason we rarely eat here! It was great to be back and it reminded me that this is the type of place you could easily come to once a week, sit at the bar and have a drink, bowl of pasta, and be very happy! It's so cozy here in the winter. We did sit at the bar on this visit, and the service was great. We had the sourdough bread (great tang and texture), salad (fresh and tasty but nothing special to me), pasta with crab (delicious) and their signature chicken dish (I could eat this every day!) Pro-tip: save some of your bread for the addictive sauce from the chicken. It's sooo good. We also got some cocktails. I can't remember the name but mine was a spicy take on a margarita, and my husband had one that was reminiscent of a Negroni. Both were good but not the most unique cocktails I've ever had. We were able to do a walk-in for a weeknight dinner around 8pm. The interior is very warm and rustic. But we sat outside in their patio area which was nice and perfect for the warm Summer weather. Our server was very insightful and great throughout the entire meal. We only just went last week and based on their online menu, it looks like they rotate their appetizer section most likely due to availability and seasonality. The sourdough bread with seaweed butter was great. The butter was unique and added a slightly new and fun flavor. We got both a salad and melon appetizer which were good but not my favorites of the night. The pasta is what you come here for and we got the Tomato Vine Spaghetti, Rigatoni w/pork ragu, and the Tonnarelli with octopus. All 3 were great and I really enjoyed the tonnarelli. Homemade pasta is always a yes. The sourdough and seaweed butter is amazing perfect start. Some things were absolutely amazing, others an acquired taste. I personally liked the tuna appetizer but my husband, who doesn't like citrus, felt the mandarin glaze was too harsh for the tuna. Both pastas were amazing. The rigatoni is always on the menu and was terrific. Perfectly balanced. We had a seasonal pasta with mussels and a unique pasta that looked like the edges of lasagna. The blend of crème, beans, peppers and mussels was unique and made your tastebuds dance. We ate every bite of both and used the sourdough to make sure there was no ragu left. The dessert was definitely an acquired taste and left me wanting something different. It was a rhubarb sorbet with lemongrass crème and some type of pickled strawberries. Unfortunately I was hoping for a refreshing sorbet but it tasted like a vegetable (which it is) but I wanted more sugar and citrus. Our server was great. The overall service is terrific too. We started with the Jicama, apple, boquerones, peaches, sesame starter. It was a very bizarre arrangement each of these was just quartered and mixed in a bowl. Maybe as a slaw it would be more cohesive. Next was the Cauliflower, broccoli, ricotta, serrano, bone marrow. It was good, yes. The rigatoni had an overly acidic taste and after a few bites I couldn't stomach it. The tonnarelli was very tasty. For mains we got the chicken and pork. The chicken was the best I've ever had. The pork was fine but not better than I've had elsewhere for cheaper. Our waiter was extremely attentive and knowledgeable, answering all of our questions. I had really high hopes for this meal because the restaurant came recommended by a local, it was really lovely inside, and our server was absolutely amazing. The bartender also made me a special off menu gin drink which was fabulous! Im not sure m if I just ordered the wrong things but my meal here was solidly just ok. We started with the persimmon, stracciatella, porridge loaf, aji honey, chestnut appetizer and I was pretty disappointed. I probably should've asked what type of persimmon they used, but given the other ingredients I assumed hachiya...I don't know what these were but they seemed unripe and were chalky. We also got three pastas, 1) Tomato vine spaghetti, cherry tomato, basil, breadcrumbs, 2) Canestri, black maitake, pine nut, kombu, and 3) Tonnarelli, mussel, nettle, spinach, calabrian. The best of the three was the canestri. The spaghetti dish tasted overwhelmingly of basil and had such an odd aftertaste. The tonnarelli was salty and almost bitter (?), something unpleasant that I couldn't place. It didn't help that they all were served lukewarm, which is an automatic ding for any dish in my opinion. Our main was the Halibut, butterkin squash, roulette, saffron, pineapple sage. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the sauce that arrived didn't seem to incorporate any of those flavors and there was so much of it that it overwhelmed the fish. The positive was that the halibut was cooked perfectly, although the accompanying squash slices were hard. Portion of pasta was small for the price tag. Three stars for the epic server who took care of us. I almost wish that she hadn't been so marvelously nice and enthusiastic because then I would've felt more comfortable sharing my thoughts on the meal lol. I walked in solo and was able to get seated right away at the bar, which was great since I know it can be hard to get in. The bartender was just okay. He seemed super busy, and I noticed a lot of people waiting on drinks. For apps, I tried the scallops, which were served raw with a tiger milk sauce the bartender recommended as one of their best. Personally, I didn't love it. The texture wasn't for me, and the flavor felt a little flat. I also had one of the hand-rolled pastas. I can't remember the exact name, but it was similar to a cacio e pepe and really good. Overall, I'd give it a 4 out of 5.
