I had a terrible experience with Dion at the Scottsdale location. I went to the Scottsdale location for a consult with Dion in 2018. During my consult, he sneezed IN my hair... right on top of my head. I get that if one has to sneeze, they have to sneeze, but it is unacceptable to sneeze on a client's head. I was astounded and mortified. He apologized, seemed surprised himself, and laughed. I was not the least bit amused. I cancelled the follow-up appointment that I was originally going to have with him for extensions and a cut. Additionally, I didn't think highly of the extension colors that he suggested. I felt as if he wasn't listening to my wants. Not feeling like we were on the same page was far less unpleasant than being sneezed upon though. I would not return to Rolfs. When I lived in Phoenix, I went to Rolf's at the Biltmore location a few times. It was super expensive and I was living on a budget but at the time, it was one of the very few splurges I had in my life. On our most recent trip to Phoenix, my mother wanted to get something for my daughter's upcoming 15th birthday that she really wanted. What my daughter really wanted was highlights because she (sad at her age) hates being a redhead. We called around to a few places to see if they had any openings and then I remembered Rolf's had opened a location on the west side of town. I was able to make a very early morning appointment for her and off I took her to get her wig busted. The young woman who did my daughter's hair (can't remember her name) was uber pretty and super sweet. She made my daughter feel comfortable right away and I left her to do her magic while I went over to my aunt and uncle's house for a visit. My mom picked my daughter up after her hair appointment and I got a call and a text from Ilana telling me how much she LOVED LOVED LOVED her hair and with the way the rest of the trip went, it was definitely the highlight(no pun intended). read more

After looking for a salon in phoenix that does balayage, for over a year, I finally found Rolf's.. I was directed to Jeanine, a balayage specialist (balayage is were the paint the highlights in, instead of using foils). We had a 15 min consult to discus what I was looking for and I made an apt for the next day. Jeanine, started on 'painting' my hair right away and things where going great, while painting the color in she asked how I wanted my hair cut. I said just a trim, with little to no layers. After washing my hair out a quick cut and style, she offered to freshen up my makeup. Bonus points!...or so I thought. What I failed to notice was the quick cut she cave me, was really 'the Rachael', with lots of layers. not what I asked for at all. Bummer. Over all the color is great, exactly what I asked for, but since the cut is not at all what I asked for, I'll be wearing a pony tail the rest of the year while the layers grow out. And if's my hair is in a pony tail, who cares how great the color is. I may go back for another color job, because it really is great...but I'll never let Jeanine cut my hair again. read more

I was directed to the colorist/ stylist Zoey through a friend of mine and it was the best decision I have ever made! My hair has been through hell and back since April. Anyway, I went in for a free consultation and Zoey spent a generous amount of time with me talking about my options since I had butchered blonde hair and dark roots. I made and appointment a month in advance and mulled over my choices. I still was undecided when I walked in yesterday, but Zoey pointed me in the right direction and I left the salon feeling happier than I have felt in a long time! She really is amazing. About 6 weeks after my previous complaint the owner called me to apologize and offer me some complimentary services. Had she called me a week or two after the incident I would have accepted but 6 weeks later was too long. I had already found another salon and was happy. It was a fair attempt at trying to apologize which I appreciated. I was asked to take the complaint off Yelp because it was hurting business. I took off the persons name as I was told it was not his fault but I didn't feel the resolution mentioned warranted me taking the bad review away. I have been going to the Arrowhead Rolf's for at least 4 years now and can honestly say I have never been happier with the stylist. I have used Justice, Cameron and now Anntonette. They are all amazing and would recommend them to anyone that wants a fantastic color or just shampoo and blowdry. I have even had updos and haircuts by them. Just the Best!! This review is for JB. She does my color at Rolf's and is very attentive and an expert at her trade. I highly recommend her! I recommend Haley for your blow dry and style. There is another gal there who charges $33 just for the blow dry and style, but literally just does a blow dry... And is very rough with the hair brush. She didn't bother to ask what I wanted or if I liked it afterwards, just "there, you're done". I heard her tell the front desk afterwards that she was leaving and not to schedule any more clients for her... That was definitely money wasted. Fortunately I didn't have her do a cut. read more

Rolf's is always a great salon for those new to the Valley. Service is always consistent. It is always hard to find that new stylist who will do your hair right. Whoever your appointment is with at Rolf's, expect a great job. A hair cut and blow dry will run you about $45 to $55 plus tip. (Note: tip must be made by cash or debit card, no credit cards) I have been going to Cameron at the Arrowhead location for over two years, and my haircuts are always perfect! I went in wanting a color correction from my magenta, lavender and plum mess up to just a plum to lavender ombré. They do not do fashion colors just FYI. And at first I was very upset when I found this out but after speaking with Olivia and finding out my hair was too dark to even do it in one shot I decided to listen to her because I know nothing about hair, that's not my forté. And I am sooooooo sooooo sooooo happy I did!! We did a cooper balayage and it looks so amazing! I am so happy I trusted her and let her help me! I never imagined my hair could look so good after having it black for so many years! Forget the lavender! I am a balayage member for life haha. The only thing I'm not happy with is that she isn't allowed to blow dry and style afterwards. Which isn't her fault. But after spending 230 plus a 20 dollar tip you still have to pay 37 dollars plus tip just for a blow dry. Which I respectfully declined because I thought they were joking. They arent. That's a little discouraging to be honest. If I spend 230 dollars on my hair I don't appreciate having to walk out looking like a wet dog. This may be the only reason I will look elsewhere to have my hair done in the future. I absolutely love Olivia and I would love to go back to her in the future because she is so sweet and so great at what she does but I can't imagine having to pay for a simple blow dry after such an expensive hair appointment. I give her 5 stars but the salon 3 for the wet dog reason. And I would like to add to the people that say Rolfs is t accommodating. They most definitely are. Maybe you aren't talking to the right people. This review is for the Foothills/Casa Paloma location in Chandler. If I was just rating my stylist, Kelly Reid, I'd give five stars. She is fantastic at what she does, and it's always a pleasure to sit in her chair. She does beautiful work (I get nothing but compliments on my hair). On the other hand, I find the salon's style itself not to my tastes. It's a bit lacking in personality, or maybe just trying too hard to appeal to ladies that lunch. That said, the front desk staff is very friendly and the product lines are top notch. I have no complaints about how the salon is run. Overall, well worth the money for the level of service. I stopped in the salon because my dermatologist told me that they sell a certain shampoo for my scalp issues. I have not had a service done here so I am just commenting on the front desk gal who helped me out.. She was extremely sweet and helpful. The only part I didn't like was that she was trying to talk me into coming in monthly for a $40 conditioning treatment and then saying I could get an additional $35 blow dry.... I mean talk about an upsell! She was just doing her job though and she's very good at it. I can appreciate a hard sale. I just thought it was over the top considering I mentioned I just wanted to buy a certain product. She wasn't pushy though so I respect her telling me about the treatments. Anyways.. I've had friends who have gone here and say they are too pricey for the quality. You pay depending on the level of stylist. You can end up paying $250 for a color and cut and it "may" turn out decent... Or it may be a disaster. Yikes! I have been a customer for two years and really like LaShonda and Angela. They do everything exactly how I like and we have built a great relationship. Today at my appointment I was told they're now required to work at various locations. They will NEVER work a Saturday together at the Arrowhead location beginning March 7th. The only day I'm available for a cut and color is Saturday. I live in the extreme Northwest valley and drive 45 mins to Arrowhead; I'm certainly not going to drive over an hour to go to Scottsdale. I don't know whose idea it was to require them to work at various locations but the customer was never considered. I don't want to try a new person every time I go there. You will lose good long term customers with this new change and it will also be a disservice to your stylists. If I wanted a random stylist each time I would pay $25 and go to Ulta. For $80 a haircut and $140 for color I should be able to have the same stylists I choose. Shame on you Rolf for losing customers for your stylists. I spoke to the only two other customers there today and they too said they would not return because their stylist would not be there on Saturday. Specifically extended my appointment to have a balayage and get my hair relayered. Came in to be told there wasn't enough time with the colorist to get a balayage. When that was specifically why my appointment was supposedly extended.. Left without a cut or a color and drove 45 minutes just to go to this salon. I started going to Angela years ago for both cut & color on my mom's recommendation. I have always been so so happy with her work! Within the last year Rolf's changed and now the stylists specialize in either cut or color. When Angela first told me about the change, I was disappointed because I just love her and how well she has always taken care of my hair. She recommended Auburn for color, and I am just as happy with Auburn as I have been with Angela! Both of them are so talented really care about making their clients happy. Rolfs at Arrowhead, made an appointment for my first visit today. Kudos to them for having someone available later the same day. However, that is as good as it gets. Arrived for my 4:15pm with Wells at 4:10pm and checked in at the counter. After waiting 12 minutes beyond my appointment time I checked with the counter informing them it was past my appointment time. They went to check with Wells and returned with it will be 10 more minutes. I asked why no one had called me, my phone number was requested and provided when making the appointment, this fell on deaf ears as no response was provided. I went on to detail that in my professional life I commit to timeliness and communication, this too fell upon deaf ears and a glassed over expression. I asked to speak to a person from management and apparently no management was present. This in large part I suspect contributes to Rolfs ineffective communication and total lack of customer service. I understand a delay occurring, what I can not understand nor tolerate is their inability to have phoned me in advance or to approach me as I am in their waiting area to communicate the delay and thereby avert my frustration. They may be an exceptional salon, but you will have to be far more patient than me to determine that. I will call and speak with management, should they ever be present and gauge their level of concern. If genuine I may make a go of it and see if another stylist has the ability to properly manage their time and honor an appointment, or at minimum at least have the fortitude and courtesy to communicate. FYI, it is now one hour past my scheduled appointment time and no phone call from Wells to extend an apology in an effort to right a wrong. My recomendation avoid a service professional that places a higher value on his own time than that of the customer that generates his entire revenue. read more

I just got my hair done here today, and once again it was amazing! I got it dyed by Krystal who is great by the way, she's really sweet and easy to talk to. The color my hair turned out was PERFECT, exactly what I wanted. I came in without a picture or anything, just told her I wanted a dark brown with a red tint. She grabbed a magazine, I pointed to a picture, and BOOM, amazing color. It was actually pretty exciting as I was sitting there staring in the mirror while my hair was being done, I noticed a very familiar man standing behind me and low and behold it was Rolf himself! He is very sweet and came by and said Hi and Happy Thanksgiving to every single client in there. I was amazed as how nice he was! I will definitely be going back to get my hair done by Krystal from now on! read more

Well, it started off with big attitude. I walked in on time and excited to get my roots taken care of. Brandy came over upset and complaining that I scheduled my appointment wrong. She told me, very sarcastically, that she did not have time for me today because I was scheduled for a root touch up instead of a root foil - but she would kindly make time for me anyway. She told me I should know better because foils take longer. All I know is I needed my roots done so I scheduled for it. What I should have done after that attitude was hit the door - fast! But I didn't, and I paid the price. Her demeaning, nasty attitude continued through out the entire time. She sat me down in a hurry and proceeded to quickly put - only a few - foils in my head. She hastily pulled thick, chunky pieces through my hair (not what I get at all - it is not at all the natural look that I want). Then she stuck me under the dryer (where I stayed for a very long time) as she proceeded to rush the next client through her service too. I sat there and watched her fumble, drop and re-drop everything she was using as she cut her clients hair lopsided with the same smug attitude she gave me. I began to get very nervous as I saw this - especially since I was being ignored. The timer had gone off, and I had been sitting there over processing for 7 minutes - so I spoke up. She got very snippy with me and really unnecessarily defensive when I asked if I should go get washed. She said that she knew what she was doing and that I had to sit there because she had another client to work on and that she was timing everything correctly. She overly defended her position as if I were provoking her. I knew then that my hair was destroyed or soon will be. I sat there patiently hoping I was overly worrying and talked myself into trusting her. What was I thinking - why oh why did I stay? She proceeded to finish cutting the other clients hair crooked. Then she told her she decided to style it to the side this time - not at all what the older woman wanted by her reaction and by the look on her face. She knew it too. Brandy of Rolf's Salon @ Arrowhead had just destroyed her hair too!! Very incompetent and very unprofessional! "I am totally effed' " - I thought to myself - "run!" But, I didn't, I stayed to finish being butchered by Brandy. Finally, she came over to take me to go get washed. When she left to get a root lifter, I looked in the mirror. OMG! My hair was white! (and at 38 years old - white hair looks gray!) I was really upset and hoping she would correct it and not let me leave like that. I did not say anything (really what would she have done - if she does not know how to do hair then I certainly can't make her). Hopefully, I thought, the glaze-root lifter will blend it - as she was stating this to me over and over again as she was putting it in my hair "this will blend it all together and give it great shine", she said. Okay, fingers crossed, I prayed for it to work. It didn't. It did not even lift my roots. I left there with white hair where she bleached it and very dark blonde hair - that looked even darker against the white strands - where the rest of my dark unlifted roots were. My hair was wet, and I just left (not without paying first though - why ease the pain?) I did not think it could possibly get any worse. Then, I got a shower and much of the white, over processed hair fell out. I am beyond disappointed. She is supposed to be a master colorist/stylist and she charges (over charges) for it too. She is nowhere close to even being an apprentice. Brandy at Rolf's Salon in Arrowhead (Glendale) destroyed my hair. She is a horrible hairstylist/colorist and really should not be doing hair - she is obviously in the wrong profession. She is impatient, ill tempered, and lazy and appears to have no common sense or skill when it comes to color or cuts. She says she specializes in natural looking blonde. LOL! I have really never had such a bad color job - and I have had some doozies! So sorry for the book about what happened. I just had to vent a bit! I so totally take my fist review back. I went to Rolf's for at least 7 years, having found a stylist that really was wonderful. Now that she's left the salon, I can review this place honestly without my opinion hurting her. I used not only her, but other stylists (if she were filled up or not available) and I've been happy with my services. So, if that's all you're looking for, then go right ahead. From the minute you walk in, this place is garish and tacky. The chairs don't even have foot rests, they had to buy footrests and if you're short, you can't reach them. The closed circuit TVs have endless loops of Rolf himself, and all the public events and accomplishments he's so proud of. Rolf is a Euro-trash Zoolander megalomaniac that treats his employees terribly. (not a very well-held secret) The hours aren't very accommodating. Only on Fridays and Saturdays are they open at 8 a.m., which means the other days, you can't even make plans for lunch if you get a morning appointment. Every couple of years, I was congratulated for my stylist being promoted, which means by the time I quit going, my services for cut, color, and style was upwards of $300. If it means my stylist got paid more, that's fine, but I tip 20-25% so I felt like I was making sure she was being compensated for her skills. Now comes the really crappy business practices. The day before an appointment, I was called and told my stylist was not going to be available and had "to be out of the salon on short notice" and I was rescheduled with another girl. I didn't think much about it, maybe she or another family member was sick. When I go and try and schedule my next appointment, 6 or 8 weeks out, they say my regular stylist wasn't on the schedule and when she returned to work all of her clients would be notified so they could move their upcoming appointments into her schedule. So I got concerned. When I did come back in, I asked the new stylist what had happened and she told me that my stylist was no longer working at the salon (and she whispered it to me, glancing around, making sure no one heard her). The reception desk finally admitted that day that my stylist had left their employ and that, in case I hadn't noticed, I had received a discount for these two appointments for my "inconvenience". Well, I consider myself a client of my stylist, not a customer of Rolf's so I have quit going. I felt lied to and manipulated. If loyalty to employees and customers is important to you, then avoid this place. If you want to overpay for services and have your senses assaulted by bright lights and the non-stop commercials, then this place is for you. read more

I made an appointment here for highlights, and specified on my appointment sheet that I wanted to discuss pricing prior to any services. My colorist, LaShonda, told me that it would be $83 for my highlights to be done, which was fine. It was around the price point that I was expecting and budgeted for. Later on, LaShonda told me she was going to leave a conditioner in my hair and that I could wash it out later that night or the next day. I said, sure. Then she went on to tell me, in passing (while my head was under water), that she was going to put some sort of gloss on my hair, too. Never mentioned pricing for these services, or asked me if I wanted them. She just did them, and told me what she was doing. I finished and went to ring up and it was $140! Almost DOUBLE what I was told I would pay. LaShonda scammed me into buying over $70 worth of treatments that I never consented to, and if I had known the price, I would have STRONGLY objected. I'm a college student and on a budget, I can't afford to spent $140 on my hair. Not to mention, my highlights turned out BRIGHT ORANGE and chunky. Awful color, awful customer service. I've been to almost all of the the recommended salons, in the past eight years, and have been wearing my hair in a ponytail just as long. Everyone pretends to listen to how strange my hair acts, pretends to be an expert in curly hair, then proceeds to turn me into a poster child for the 80's perm look. I've been going to Rolfs at Arrowhead since they opened over 10 years ago. In that time, I've had 6 different stylists due to staff turnover. All of them provided exceptional service (very professional, high quality/consistent results, etc), but it is bothersome that so many people leave Rolfs under questionable circumstances. The last two times I was there, the place was empty. It appears only two stylists are now working there - hard to tell. Even the long term employees are gone (I think Patrick was there since they opened and he left recently). The mood is tense. What the heck is going on? read more

Rolfs is a full service salon in the Arrowhead area. I decided to take a break once and went to Salon Surreal (see my other review for that here) after I heard that my hairdresser Charissa got bumped up into the master sylist category. Seeing how times were tough and I wanted to save a buck I looked elsewhere. Big Mistake! Rolfs, is an upscale salon. The stylists are proffessional and stay busy. They are not up front chatting with the receptionists, or talking about private matters in front of clients. They offer you iced tea or coffee or water when you get sit down and bring it out to you. The assistants are even hairstylists that have completed beautyschool/or were hairdressers elsewhere and are training to work there. They gave me a nice scalp massage. The products they use here are great and have even went back to purchase my Bumble and Bumble there. It is pricey..But I never had a bad haircut there. I plan on saving up and going back to see Charissa. As the previous poster said, you cant add your tip on to your credit card. Just cash or debit. Parking can be hit or miss. Since Rolf's is in a strip mall that has A.Js as an anchor, along with pei wei and other stores, it can get busy around lunch time. It's not so bad where you have to walk real far though. read more

I first went to Rolfs (Arrowhead location) to purchase Kerastase shampoo and conditioner. The receptionist was extremely helpful. This visit was for a free in salon treatment. My stylist, Antoinette, was wonderful and very knowlegable. She explained each product she used and made recommendations without being pushy. I really think they aren't trained very well because this is the second time I had choppy, way too short of bangs cut. I showed a picture and everything. I'm pretty beside myself with how awful I'm going to look at my friends wedding. The lady didn't even apologize or try to fix them- and the front office staff wasn't much help either.
