We went after wanting to go for many years and we had an amazing time. We opted for the 6 hour lock in. Yes, there are lots of rules. But I believe it's because people have taken advantage, been injured, or destroyed property in the past. And, as we always see, the few can ruin the fun for everyone. We followed the rules to a T, made sure we had the things we needed and enjoyed our experience. It was cold inside; and I recommend a tiny flashlight. There are ghost hunting tools for sale in the Green Room and we also use the Ghost Hunting Tools app on our iPhone. I also would recommend a separate voice recording device. read more

The building itself is fascinating. The owner is an ass hole. She accused me of smelling like alcohol (went to the bathroom used hand sanitizer) and screamed at me in front of everyone that my hand writing was illegible. I have terrible hand wringing AND has completed this damn information about 6 times on her horrible website!! She talked about herself incessantly buying the property 10 years prior. She has so much to say about herself she talks about a million miles a minute. People in the group seemed to hear things i didn't so that's cool. The only revenge jack got was taking my money!!! The "haunt" costs 30$, took an hour and a half of waiting and took about 7 minutes for us to get thru. We were about 30th in line. Jack's revenge has a long, long, long, long, long LONG way to go. First the parking lot. If you have a low car there is a real possibility you will get stuck in the ruts leading up to the field parking....if you can even find it. Your line entertainment includes watching cars drive back and fourth trying to locate the place with a line actor frantically trying to prevent cars from pulling into the line of people waiting. You'll need that entertainment because again, 30 people away from the door, we were just outside the covered area for reference, takes AN HOUR AND A HALF to get to the front. When we were finally able to enter the "haunt" the woman had to shine her flashlight inside so we could see the stairs. We ascended the last flight in darkness. I remember some hallways and a day room with little to no props and clearly first year actors. There was a larger room at the end of the hall where what I can only hope happened, was a malfunctioning fog machine. I had to rescue a member of my group that was frantically spinning around before he could fall down 3 flights of stairs that my group had started to descend in front of us. You couldn't even see a foot in front of you...which would be fun if there hadn't been stairs. You are in REAL DANGER of falling down. The poor actress in there was most likely highly stressed out and left without a flashlight while she tried to help people down 3 flights of stairs in complete darkness, floors wet with fog. Shame on the people who left her to do that job alone, and caring so little about customer saftey. You should have pulled an actor from anywhere around your shit show to help her. You then end up in a basement type area where in the hallway is one of the only props I remember being in the haunt. I was promised by actors that "he" was waiting and "he" was up ahead, I thought alright here's jack, who is the kid from the orphanage (one of my favorite movies) blantently ripped from the cover of the DVD and plastered on the signs outside but I saw no jack. What I did come across was an unenthusiastic actor weilding a chainsaw who seemed actually afraid to scare anyone because there were also a few stairs in his room. Upon exiting my 7 minute walk thru, people asked how it was and I tried to warn them as the line had nearly doubled from our arrival, that it would be about a 3 hour wait but they kept walking. You might be wondering how a 7 minute walk through took so long to get 30 people thru, well my speculation is that besides injuries that may have occurred, people not being able to navigate the stairs and the woman putting at least a 5 minute buffer between you and the group in front of you your wait time is absolutely atrocious. Honestly there is a first year home haunt in Niagara Falls that we had skipped to go to Jack's Revenge. The home haunt took just as much time to go through (again 7 minutes) and a shorter wait time, was quite safe AND costs 25$ less with the profit going to charity not lining someone's pocket. If you sift thru all the bogus 5 star reviews from workers and actors you'll see that Jack's revenge which is priced the same as other haunted houses in the area is a complete joke and has the scariness of the shed at pumpkinville -666 out of 10! read more

As with most of the other reviews here - this gets 1 star for one reason: Sharon. Long story made short: While checking in, one of the employees asked some routine questions. One of these questions was whether or not anyone had been drinking prior. I am a 31 year old adult and casually mentioned that, 3 hours prior, our group had gone out to dinner together and that I had a beer. This was meant to be somewhat of a joke as i laughed it off. The employee gave me a troubled look (he was quite off too, i guess you'd have to be to work under Sharon.) Fast forward past signing the waivers and getting through the introduction protocol (All which cut about an hour off of the 6 hour stay we paid for), we were free to explore the building. About an hour into the ghost hunting, we had just entered a new room and began to set up some equipment. Out of nowhere, Sharon comes blasting into the room screaming mindlessly and dropping F-bombs and obscenities. There was a good 2 minutes of her screaming where everyone in our group stood there, frozen in shock, silent and confused. She said that her employee informed her that we'd been drinking and that we needed to leave immediately because we "dishonored her and her insurance" and that she "F***ing hates all of us!!". Once i was able to recover from the initial shock, i calmly stated that we had dinner (at this time, 4 hours ago) and had 1 beer with that dinner. We were all clearly 100% sober and respectful the entire time. She continued screaming at the top of her lungs saying none of that mattered and that we all needed to leave the property immediately. We walked with her into one of the dark corridors and tried to explain further, but she wouldn't let us get a word in, she was in a full blown tantrum. She was screaming at us saying that none of us could drive home because we "were all drunk!" (quite the accusation to make against a group of calm, respectful people in their 30's). She then selected the 2 Rolling Hills veterans out of our group in a brief moment of sanity, and apologized to them, saying that they could stay. She randomly selected two more from the group that had stayed quiet and said they could stay also. My girlfriend and myself, along with 1 other guy in our group however were not so lucky (again, this was completely arbitrary, a decision made by someone who was/is clearly mentally unstable). This was a problem because my girlfriend and i had rode with one of the vets and we live 40 mins away, which i explained. "I DON'T CARE YOU CAN CALL AN UBER OR WALK!!" she replied. This pace is in the middle of nowhere btw...you're not getting an uber out there...Finally i spoke up and said "You need to calm down a little.". This of course sent her into a rampage. She advanced towards me aggressively while screaming at the top of her lungs "I F***ING HATE ALL OF YOU, YOU NEED TO GET THE F*** OUT OF MY BUILDING NOW!!!" "GET THE F*** OUT OF MY BUILDING HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY IT GET THE F*** OUT!!" To which i calmly said, "which way is the exit?", as i don't have this large, pitch black building and all of it's pathways memorized. She replied with more of the same "JUST GET THE F*** OUT OF MY BUILDING NOW!!!!". We made our way back to the entrance and after some more berating i mentioned that she was making a mistake, as i have been a supporter by way of purchases and word of mouth advertising for many years now. She continued screaming at full volume "I DON'T CARE AND I DON'T WANT ANY OF YOUR GUYS' MONEY I HATE YOU!!" (We will not be seeing refunds). I mentioned to her, again very calmly, that she had been acting extremely unprofessional. Her response was screaming "YOU CANT WAIT IN THE PARKING LOT EITHER!!"...I realized that there was no reasoning with this person and walked away, luckily the other individual being kicked out was nice enough to give us a ride back to our house as they lived in Rochester as well. It saddens me to say that i wont be back to the Asylum until it's inevitably under new ownership. read more

PURCHASE AT YOUR OWN RISK!! So, we literally just left this place. We were worried about going here to begin with because we saw all the negative reviews and to have that many is certainly believable. We took a chance though and paid the $550 for the private four hours. So we wouldn't disrupt anyone. Because of said reviews, we went out of our way not to give her an excuse to deny us entry. We only planned to take in with us the essentials. She was polite to us at first and I was sure to ask if I could take some pictures outside and we were all being super polite. Then my Mom who was with me had to use the bathroom real quick so she went into the porta potty. It's a long ride from Syracuse where we're from and the ground is somewhat uneven by the porta potty so my Mom's legs were a little stiff and she ended up stumbling. Ding, ding. The lady got her excuse. "I can't have your Mom coming into my building. This is too much for her. She's not able to handle this." When we tried to explain what happened and why, this woman had the audacity to tell me SHE cares more about MY MOTHER than I do. While talking about my Mom like she wasn't even there. All these reviews were right. She looks for whatever excuse. She made a show like she still wanted us to do it and my Mom could wait in one of the rooms but then she said she couldn't just leave her unattended because it's only her and she'd be in the gift shop alone and what all and tried having us leaving my Mom at some hotel. As a side note, she knew all about the surrounding hotels so it adds to the credibility that she tries to send everybody away when they get there. Like, nobody cares more about my mother than I do so fuck off. I wasn't about to go in there without my mother either. I was super excited to do this. My Mom and I are huge paranormal fans. Maybe if this place ever gets another owner, I'll think about coming back but never while she's there. Just saying. Rip off. SCAM!! She was very in our face too. read more

I'm not sure why some of these reviews are dragging on Rolling hills. I had an absolutely amazing time. Sharon was very understanding, and comforting. The staff was also amazing, talkative and comforting. They were open about the history, took care of me when I felt uneasy. They saw my eqp was missing a piece and not only gave me a lesson on how to use it, but replaced the piece I was missing. The spirits were very active. Non-threatening, and very talkative. I highly recommend Rolling Hills. The place, and the people 10/10 will do it again. read more

Had been wanting to go to this historic location for quite some time and went on one of their summer horror movies nights (The Conjuring). First off the location is wonderful, interesting and definetly a 5/5 - the management and organization of things brings the rating down. Trying to navigate their web-site is near impossible. There are alot of steps and repeated information - and if you miss one step or dont complete the entire puchasing, consenting and ID process to the owners liking you may be refused entry without refund as you are warned multiple times on the web-site. Purchased the online tickets for the movie itself $15 then for the 2-Hour flashlight tour $20 + Fees, then you must also register for the events on the website which includes multiple consents as to rules and at your own risk information. Parking was simple at the location and there was a line outside the building which was lengthly and slow moving. Sharon (the owner) was checking IDs and such at the door prior to sitting down for the movie. The movie was in a large room with uncomfortable sturdy plastic chairs that still had the plastic bags/cardboard on the legs. The windows were covered with dark velvet curtains to keep the light out. Snacks included numerous full size bags of popcorn, chips and theater sized boxes of candy enough for everyone. Water or can of soda was included. Snacks were fine but would have been nice to have a bowl or smaller bag of chips. Sharon called out an entire group of people and they had to leave the movie even before it started - I have no idea what that was all about. The remaining paying customers in the room were talkng and waiting for the movie to start and she yelled at the entire group as if they were a bunch of 10 yr olds "Grow up people, be respectful" - It was awkward and unnecessary. The sound system was great, maybe even a little too loud but it really set the mood the the freaky movie The Conjuring. I did enjoy seeing the movie at this awesome, creepy location. After the movie we had to move the car to the other side of the building so the next group of movie watchers could park which was fine. After moving the car we waited outside for Sharon to again review the rules and we sent to a very crowded, super hot room to fill out another Consent form (extensive - I was waiting for it ask my SSN or past medical history) and then we had to wait in this room "to be checked off." We were in this side room for over 30 minutes - no order at all. Every so often Sharon would pop her head in - yell orders then come in a few minutes later to completely change it. Finally we were able to go on the tour with one of the Volunteers. We were told right up front by Sharon and the Volunteer tour guide that they have never had this many people here and didn't plan on it and called us "Guinea pig group." Well this group paid almost $40 per person so I found this ridiculous and offensive. This also doesn't make sense as you had to pre-pay for tickets so they knew who was coming. The tour guide was nice but was very rushed and actually said "We need to keep moving briskly, there is another group behind us." We literally had to power walk through the location stopping at his choice for a brief historical story at several locations. There was no time to look around at all where I may have wanted. Many rooms were filled with props - not of the time frame of the location. There were bats painted on the walls from previous haunted houses. There were also some actual bats flying around the location down in the tunnel area. The tour was only 80 minutes where we paid for 120 minutes. When we initially bought the tickets we weren't told there would be more than one showing of the movie - during many parts of the tour you could loudly hear the other movie. I wouldve enjoyed the rest of the 40 minutes of the tour so that I could look around slower. FYI - There is no heat or air conditioner and no running water so they have a porta potty bathroom. If you are Like them on facebook Sharon posts messages about having trespassers arrested on the property. I completely agree that people shouldn't trespass and definetly not destroy property but her posts on facebook are a bit much. If you try to post a review on facebook that she doesnt agree with she will reply back very unprofessionally from what I have seen. This is a truely honest review and I have tried to use facts rather than too many personal opinions as the reviews for this location vary so much. It appears with personal tours which are approx $70 per person and up management is able to handle situations better. On a side note - I had previously purchased tickets in the past for a different tour but it was cancelled by management at the last minute due to low interest and and the money was refunded in that case. read more

If you can make it past the RIDICULOUS amount of paperwork (which had to be filled out online and then again in person at the facility) and the less than pleasant attitude of "Sharon" the proprietor then this is a cool idea, in theory... The building itself is a mess... I'm certain the air quality, etc is damaging to your health especially in the kitchen where the deep freezers are. ( fool yourself all you want that it's "spirits" making it harder to breathe but I doubt if the health board were in there you'd be able to tour that room) Sharon is a horrible proprietor that acts as if she's doing YOU a favor instead of making it a fun experience... Her idea of control and organization could make one wonder if she's either high on something or has many multiple personalities fighting her every move & decision... We had our expectations low, based on yelp reviews. But we had an awesome time. Several groups were turned away for being obviously intoxicated. I can't blame owners of a place that you are about to walk though in the dark that has some dangerous areas in it for making sure the people using their facilities have all of their capabilities about them. Also, we noticed that this policy was clearly stated on the tickets. After getting signed in we had to fill out a quick waiver form. I expect many of the negative reviews are from young people who haven't had many experiences at places like this. There was an informative tour for the first half of our visit and then we were free to check out the open areas of the building. I wish that they had maps, as we got disoriented a few times. In all it was a great experience. Dress for the weather, bring a small flashlight. It is a ghost hunting experience, so I would recommend knowing what you are getting into before you show up. read more

I highly recommend you DON'T go to the Asylum, and if you do beware of the owner Sharon, what a terrible woman. Right off the bat she was argumentative with people during check in. She took everything from us, including the salt, crystal and sage I brought with me for my protection, she was very angry I even brought it. The whole tour itself was admittedly incredible and an amazing experience. I had many paranormal experiences that I'll never forget. After the tour my group and I collected our stuff and went outside to wait for our ride that never came. We were stranded there in the cold an hour from home. One of the other workers there let us back in while we tried to find another ride. Sharon did not like that. She was angry that we wanted to wait there for an hour for our ride even though we told her we'd wait outside. She just wanted to close up and leave. She then went off on us, screaming, threatening to call the cops because apparently we were "trespassing", and she shamed us for not having a ride home even though that wasn't her problem, we understand our transportation plan wasn't the best, she had no right to shame us like we were kids. I should also add she'd forgotten to give something back to me, my sage spray, if I hadn't gone back inside I would've left without it, but she refused to give it back while she yelled at us. While we were leaving she started cursing us out, which we responded to likewise. I can't help but think of this as my first run in with a real "Karen" in the wild, how ironic it is that she owns an insane Asylum. read more

These are the most hateful people I've come across in a long time. They have OVER $1000 of ours and we were on the property LESS THAN 15 mins. My group of adults is from Ohio and we took vacation time to come to NY for this. Due to having a beer with dinner, we were screamed at to leave the property. When we asked what was wrong, Brad wouldn't answer our questions. I called to find out what the problem was when we got back to the hotel. Sharon was all hyped up, but ended up calming down and speaking to me like a normal person until Brad got on the phone and continue to be nasty. I had to remind him multiple times not to speak to me that way since I wasn't talk to him like that. I asked for some type of refund since again, they have OVER $1000 from our group. They said that they are too busy getting ready for the celebrity coming tomorrow and will think about it and call me in a few days. At 9am the next morning, Sharon, the owner called me SCREAMING over the review that was posted on them by a member of my group. She wouldn't calm down and have a conversation with me and after 20 mins of trying to have a conversation with her and her continuing to SCREAM like a banshee, I had to just tell her to have a good day and hang up the call. We had a private group of 10 from 9-2am. The experience was amazing. The owner was very knowledgeable and kind. I am not sure why others found her to be anything other than accommodating. We had three adults and 7 teenagers. We were greeted 15 minutes before our tour. There is no running water in the building so she had port o pots. They were very clean. We went to the green room where we filled out paperwork as. She checked our drivers licenses. Let's face it, I dont blame her for being cautious. She is allowing 10 total strangers to wonder around her property without supervision. You can imagine the crazies she could potentially meet. Then, she gave us a brief history and answered questions. We had a tour of the facility where she showed the group how to speak to the ghosts. Then, we were allowed to go anywhere in the building. The owner stayed in the green room and provided drinks and snacks when we needed a break. We left our belongings in the green room. We were advised not to use head lamps as they were too bright and will just blind the people you were with. Don't hesitate to come. It was a very good experience and any personal attacks on the owner are likely from people who didn't follow the rules. No, you can't drink. Think about it, would you want a bunch of drunks on your property wandering around in the dark? Don't scream and yell. There are other people trying to enjoy the tour. Don't bring in food. She tries to limit the amount of rodents in an abandoned building. Eat before you come, not a big deal. Offended she called you a name? You probably deserved it. Mad she charges for water? Get over it, this is a business. read more

A friend went 3 times before and she said she had a great time so we went with her. We went and the door was locked it was freezing out and another few people arrive but we waited 45 mins until we banged on the door seeing a person inside. The person said that an email was sent out that the hunt was cancelled but none of the 5 of us got any emails . We were freezing cold. Drove an hour to get there and didn't see a thing was told to pick another date . Was very bummed out and disappointed. I bought three tickets for a captive ghost hunt, (8pm-2am), and followed all of the rules on the website. Upon arrival, the owner immediately started talking to us as if we were children. She said she could smell smoke and was determined to find the smoker, but no-one confessed. She had a hard time letting it go. (It wasn't anyone in my group.) We emptied our bags and pockets so the owner could search for "contraband." This included not only outside food and beverages, but also, outside gum and medication. Don't try to bring any Tylenol! Then, we got to fill out the same paperwork that we'd already filled out online. We were told that we couldn't go to the porta-potty or leave the building, for any reason, without an escort and were reassured that all of these rules were necessary because of past bad behavior. The owner said it was for our own safety and that if we left the building on our own, the night would be over for everyone. If anything bad happened and an ambulance was called, she explained, the EMTs would treat her before anyone one else because she lives there and pays taxes. (Didn't sit well with the EMT I in my group.) She then spent nearly an hour sharing personal anecdotes and even started crying about how hard it is to own the building. We were finally set free and we enjoyed exploring the building.Unfortunately, about an hour and a half in, my 18 year old son got a headache and wanted to rest in our vehicle, where the Tylenol was. (I suspect that it was from the mold in the basement.) He was told that he couldn't leave unless everyone in our group did. So, we left. I spent $234.00 and drove over two hours for a nearly hour long, self serving lecture and only an hour and a half in the building. The building is a treasure but the rules are excessive and will drive costumers away. Also, 50 ppl in the building is too many for a legitimate ghost hunt. read more

I was delighted to have Brad as our tour guide he was very patient,,as it took my Dad a slow go up the stairs. We got some really good pics of paranormal,and even them talking 2us. This was going to be my third time visiting, but my father had a heart attack and needed triple bypass.  i found this out 9 days before the date i booked.  i read and understood the No Refund policy, but given the fact i was a repeat customer and of the severity of the need to cancel, i thought sharon would be sensitive to the situation.  after she offered a lame "im sorry", and she said absolutely no refunds.  Of course, i sent a  heated email reply to her, but then followed with a more rational one with an apology with a request for a comp visit....no reply. Given the fact that i provided ample time, she could have opened those slots back up and rebooked, leaving her at no loss. but if she did rebook, she is now ahead of the game. i am going to continue to spread the word of just how insensitive and greedy she is.  So, all the nasty things you read about her....they are true! read more

Drove 4 hrs from Jersey to go here for a 4 hr tour on Sept 27 for my birthday. My brother paid $80 for us to tour the Asylum. We get their an hour early waiting in the parking lot suppose to start at 7:59pm no cars anywhere now it's pitch black a drunken man comes to our car and asks what we are here for we said the tour he said oh I have to go talk to the lady I'll be back. He never came back finally we drove around back and got out there were lights on inside so my brother was knocking on the door finally a nasty day comes out with another lady and says she emailed everyone that tonight tour was cancelled because they had to get ready for a dinner with a ghost tour the next day. We never got an email my brother showed her the ticket and she kept telling him nasty can you let me talk which we were but we drove all this way and got no email and paid for the tour and she couldn't even come to the parking lot and tell us there was no tour. She had our phone number she could have called or texted or put in on their website and their Facebook page that tonight's tour was cancelled so people who are traveling many hours for this 8pm to 12pm would not make the trip. First in my opinion Ms Nasty probably only had a few customers tonight so it would benefit her more to take these 4 hours from us and use it to get ready for their big show tomorrow because she said oh we have to put up fire extinguishers for tomorrow and other bull. I will never ever step foot on her property again because I could never trust that she will keep her scheduled tours. I should have listened to the reviews on Facebook saying that the tour guide was very nasty and believe me she is. So if you want a terrible time or if you want to drive a long way to find out she canceled your tour go ahead not me. Fool me once never again. Go to the Waverly Sanatorium. Long story short, one singular friend in our group did not buy a ticket prior but we brought him along to see if he could buy a ticket at the door. The group ahead mentioned how they had bought an extra ticket so he pitched in and politely asked if he could buy that ticket off them, and Sharon screamed at him for interrupting her. After she had taken in that we are younger and "punk" or "goth" looking, she had pointed fingers saying the friend without a ticket was drunk. She said we could drop him off and come back. After calmly trying to explain he did not drink she told us we should all leave because it is "guilty by association". Me and one of the 3 other people in the group patiently waited for her to finish talking to everyone in line to have a calm conversation with her and apologize. while waiting I watched her scream at every other customer in line. Once she had finished and came up to us she started screaming immediately. We asked if we could drop the friend who was "drunk" and had no ticket off and still go in because one of our friends with us spent $750 to fly from NC to NY to come here on his birthday and enjoy the asylum with us and it would be a waste of his money and time to not do it at all. She continued to fight us and said if we dont leave she will call the cops for trespassing. We said she could breathalize all of us if she did call the cops. Nope. We asked if we could at least have HALF of what we paid back so we could still go out and enjoy our friend from out of state's birthday and she said she didnt care. We ended up listening and left because we didnt want any problems, we just wanted to have a good night for our friends birthday. I know this is ridiculously long but, moral of the story, she will steal your money and use ridiculous excuses to want to call the cops on you and steal your money. ESPECIALLY dont go if you look anything out of the ordinary. She picked us because we look different. There is no doubt in my mind that it was discrimination. And seeing how there are many other negative reviews from "punk or goth" looking people with the same exact experience, I say it is genuine discrimination and extorting people of their money. read more

I thought this place was amazing. It is supposed to be one of the most haunted places. It was a poor house, asylum, infirmary, and nursing home. We first were taken in to sign a waver and liability form. The owner gave us a brief history and then we were allowed to go off on it own and explore. The morgue is awesome. They have a suit hanging and when we were in there we kept asking it to turn different ways and it did and then it would stop moving. There was no air flowing and when we originally can in it was completely still. We then went into the kitchen where we had turned on our flashlight. The lady in the room asked whoever was there to turn the flashlight off and it went off by itself. She then started asking questions and asked him to make it flicker for yes and if the answer was no it wouldn't flicker. The entire place has a creepy feeling. Once you have gone around they suggest you pick one room and sit in there to see if there is any activity. They tell you about a little boy jack who likes to play and Roy who suffered from giantism. He wonders the hallways. There is also a screaming lady. When she came in she could not see or hear. She had no way of communicating so she would scream. They say when she screams you can hear it throughout the entire asylum and not everyone can hear it. In shadow hallway there are creepers. You will see things crawling in the floor. The owners don't know what they are. They assume they are children crawling. The more you try to interact the more you will get out of this experience. There is so much I could go on and on. It is something you have to see for yourself. I would love to go back. We did the 3 hour Psych hold tour. Even if you are not a believer the building alone is amazing and has so much history. read more

It's not that rolling hills asylum itself has anything wrong with it, but the owners are absolutely awful. They have a business in tourism.. but act as if they absolutely hate people. They complain the entire time and scold you like you're they're dog. Very abrasive human beings.. I wanted to leave within being there for 5 minutes. A group of friends suggested Rolling Hills Asylum and after reading reviews here and on Google, I was a more than a little hesitant to give up my hard earned money for what seemed like a sham. But I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and we went the night after Thanksgiving. I had taken the time to read over a majority of the website, so I felt like I knew what to expect when I got there, and that's exactly what happened. Brad greeted us outside and explained the process clearly. He was friendly and enthusiastic. The 'intake' process was a little daunting, but I understand the reason why. You are in the middle of no where, you are entering a building that is considerably aged with steep inclines and minimal lighting. They are protecting themselves and their customers. I don't know why anyone would want to go to a place like this intoxicated, this is not a fun house or Halloween haunted house. After going over the rules and giving us a history of the building, we were split up into 3 groups and taken on the historic tour before being allowed to roam the building on our own. The history of the building was very interesting. I'm a pretty open person when it comes to spirits and such; and have encountered them on my own, but still had the reviews I read in the back of my mind as we began searching the building on our own. I went through the building looking for signs of staging, looking for explanation of things, but open at the same time. There were a few things that happened that gave us pause, foot steps behind us, shadows etc., but I wasn't truly convinced until we went into a large rec room on the second floor. Many of the rooms are staged, but this is done (I think) on purpose. There are relatively comfortable places to sit in a room, because sometimes you have to wait and let the spirits come. Toys on the floor to provide objects for spirits to move etc. My group sat in the rec room and just started talking quietly about the room. We then asked if there was anyone with us. Nothing in the room moved, but a friend placed his cellphone on the floor in the middle of the room and said, 'if you touch the item I put on the floor, a light will come on. if there is anyone is the room, could you touch the item and show us' about a minute later, the phone went on. We tried it again in a different location and asked again for someone to turn on the 'light.' The cellphone came on again. This was not a notification, it was not planned. We then told the spirit that if the answer to our question was yes, to turn on the light. We then asked a series of questions and got several yes answers. We ended up spending about 30 minutes in the room, talking with what we eventually ascertained was a young boy. It was rather interesting. We do plan on going back in the spring, when its a little warmer and doing a weekday quarantine (overnight from 8p-4a). It was a little distracting to have other groups in the building, wandering in and out of the same rooms, making noise in the hallway. I don't know if there has been a turn over in the volunteers or if the negative reviews on social media have inspired them to focus a little more on customer service, all I can say is that there wasn't a negative experience had all evening and we are looking forward to going back in the spring. read more

Contrary to these reviews (I almost did not go because of them) our team had a great private tour. We spent the whole night with just the 9 of us and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I did not get to meet Sharon, but Brad was very accommodating, informative and welcoming. I would happily visit again. read more

So walking again I can feel the coldness in my spine quickly I turned fast as I could snapped my camera long behold a fiqure standing right behind me. ZERO STARS - Don't waste your time or money. There's a pretty good chance you'll be kicked out with no refund prior to the start of tour. This is how they thin the "herd" and as the other yelp reviews will show you, it's their mode of operation. Research the owner, she's not loved by anyone who knows her, including the town board. The owners have no concept of customer service and every word they spoke had something to do with what not to do and was delivered in a style and tone that should not even be used on your worst enemy. My first bad vibe came shortly after pulling in and overhearing a group that just came out complain about the owners over by the only restroom there; a foul smelling outhouse. The second bad vibe came as we stood in the outside covered area to stay out of the cold wind, the "rules guy" came out and said in a demeaning voice to back up and stay away from the door. Five minutes later he was out there saying all the things you couldn't bring in and doing so in a very negative and insulting way. Obviously, a bully on the outside and a scared little boy on the inside. The "rule guy" as he called himself was completely negative, nasty, rude and obviously not very intelligent or he would not be insulting his paying customers or behaving in the manner that he was. Certainly no one I would want to associate with in any situation. We should have left then. Read the reviews, there are none really in the middle, they are either one star terrible (the real ones) or five star good (faked by the owners or their friends). After my own negative experience, I polled others leaving the tour, everyone I spoke to felt the same and said they would never return. If you decide to go despite the reviews, don't go as a group, groups of 5 or more have a higher chance of being kicked out (easier to thin out large tours that way). Don't be flagrantly alternative in lifestyle or the blatantly prejudice owners will kick you out. Don't take any big strong guys with you as it will frighten the weak little insecurity guard aka the "rule guy" and that will get you kicked out. Seriously, I saw it happen to Mr. Lunk while I was there. The owners are bad people, with bad manners providing only negative thoughts and experiences, why would anyone want to expose themselves to that on purpose and pay for it as well? NOTE: You will not see ghosts or hear strange voices, or anything like you might imagine on your drive there. Instead you will more likely expose yourself to foul odors from old broken refrigerator compressors, in dank basement rooms and track lead paint into your vehicle and then into your home. Don't know what those other reviewers were talking about have been to rolling hills twice now and the owner who is sharon is pleasant and friendly.I would recommend investigating rolling hills extremely haunted have heard many noises of footsteps and voices and my wife and I were only ones in there.would highly recommend this place to investigate we will definitely be driving the five hrs it takes to get there too investigate again.also don't go there expecting the Taj Mahal after all it is an old asylum built years ago. read more

My girlfriend and I drove out to this establishment, an hour away from our hometown, for what we hoped would be a neat experience at The Official Rolling Hills Asylum. We had intended to attend the event happening tonight that is a tour of the property followed by a live screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I had purchased tickets on the website last night, and have documentation both through PayPal and my email, as well as my bank statement. We were both excited so I was disheartened and frankly upset when I presented a copy of my payment to the check in desk, as I had not received any tickets or instructions on how to download them, and was told that this was unacceptable. The proprietor of the business, Sharon, rudely told me they had no record of my payment, even though PayPal had already been charged and the money taken from my account. She said she had no way of knowing whether I had simply given my tickets to someone else and was trying to pretend I didn't have them so I could get in. I never received any downloadable tickets and had printed the only confirmation I received, under the impression that there was a will call set up. Sharon then pulled me outside and continued to try to show me they had no documentation and that I would have to repurchase the tickets, which at this point would be over $50 for both of us and "resolve it later" because she "had other people to take care of" (which she repeated several times, making me feel like I was a child and creating a scene). As someone who is in law school and is an honest person and also knows the value of good customer service, I was shocked she wouldn't allow us good faith service. I'm writing this post so people know that the business practices at this place are highly flawed. There is more that was said and implied by her body language and refusal to understand my side of things that made a terrible impression of this business to me. read more

This place was fantastic. My family and I went for a guided tour in September, to beat the Halloween rush. The tour exceeded our expectations. I'm still a little freaked out at being coerced by my family to sit in a wheelchair at the far end of a dark hallway, while I cried out for someone to help me (in the hopes that a ghost would start pushing the chair). This was right up our alley and I would urge anyone with an interest in old buildings, history or the occult to attend. I've spoken to people who didn't opt for the guided tour and just roamed freely around the place, and it sounds like the tour is the better option. read more

This was a first time experience for me and it was spooky and awesome! There is very cool history on this property. The owner Sharon is wonderful and she has definitely put in a lot of hard work, effort and research to keep this place going. We did the "dinner with a ghost tour" ~ dinner and then a 6 hour ghost hunt. The meal was delicious, they definitely provide a lot of food! Following the dinner there was a presentation of the history of the Asylum followed by a guided tour explaining the rooms, the various spirits that reside there, how to get around and the rules. After that you are on your own to explore and hunt. If you are a fan of the paranormal, ghost shows or just intrigued by it all, you need to check this place out.
