This barber shop is really inconsistent in how they cut hair. My teenage son has been to this place 3 times and this time is the worst. He really liked his last haircut with them so he thought he would be safe going back. My son told the woman he wanted the same style as his current one but a little shorter. The woman ended cutting his hair really short, like a 5 year old boy. My son was so upset he just wanted to get out of there so we didn't voice our opinion. We should have asked for the name of the hair stylist from last time and just make appointments but we totally forgot. I always find myself coming here whenever I need a haircut. That's because 1) they're pretty consistent with their cuts and 2) they understand that cutting hair down to "the skin" is an actual thing. Every time I've been here, Lee cuts my hair and I don't leave disappointed. I usually get my sides shaved with a skin/bald fade, a line-up to make everything look cleaner, and a little trim for the longer hairs on the top of my head. They have great attention to detail and they make sure you leave with what you want. I don't see them using a traditional barber's razor to cut hair to the skin, but rather a combination of hair clippers and electronic shavers to achieve the effect. They also have mini countertop vacuums to suck in the hairs they've cut so you're not itching when you leave. They do a great job here, but I just wish their fade game was a little stronger. You've got to admit, there's nothing that looks better on someone than a nicely blended fade! Anyway, the fact that they can cut hair to "the skin" at a great, competitive price is the reason why I keep coming back. Rollins Ave. Barber Shop is convenient, consistent, and very affordable. This time I just went with an older lady who butchered my hair once before, but I figured I'd give her a second chance. My true rating is 3.5/5 stars, and that is solely because of Yung. I have been going to this shop for more than 2 years, and 90% of the time, I have Yung cut my hair. She is great. Always remembers, even without me telling her. Today (11/29/16) I went in, but she wasn't there. Mr. Lee just looked at me and snickered, as he usually does. He said something to Ms. Suh and the other lady, in their native language. Ms. Suh immediately said, "she will be here tomorrow." Not a huge issue for me, but I couldn't wait another day, so I asked if one of them could cut my hair. After talking amongst themselves, the younger one said yes. She did a great job. I showed her a picture for the back and sides, and just asked for a little to be cut off of the rest. I don't know if the problem is because I am African-American, a woman, or both, but the outright discrimination from Mr. Lee and Ms. Suh (her skills are a 2/5) are not appreciated. My hair is styled almost like Halle Berry's, which is not much different from a guy's cut, so I don't know what the problem is. I would appreciate it if they have a problem, that they come right out and say it--to me and in English, as I am a paying customer, who always tips Ms.Yung. The disrespect is NOT appreciated. Michael Jordan. Michael Chiklis. Michael Stipe. Me? While I'm not sure that I fit in the mold of the other famous bald guys named Michael that I list, my dome definitely has seen hairier days. And, surprisingly, not every "hair" stylist knows how to shave a scalp correctly. This barber shop does. So much so that I still go out to Rockville from the city on a monthly basis to see them. The reason they are so special is, unlike many barbers, they use every tool in their arsenal to make my hair length"skin." They use the normal clippers, they use the industrial strength Norelco-looking shaver, and they even use the ear hair trimmer on my neck. It's not a quick process, but perfection rather is. I don't think I've been able to get it any closer on the few times I used a razor. And a cut here is far less painful. Someone looking for chit chat from a barber won't get that here (though all the barbers here understand enough English to get it right). But they have a television to watch while getting your hair done, usually set to news shows from South Korea or the United States and there's rarely a wait even on the busiest Saturday. If I still had hair, I'd love them even more. As it stands, I'm a very loyal customer. read more

Before starting the haircut I gave the instructions and he said he understood everything. After the haircut was half done, I asked. Q- I told you number 8 on sides, why did you make it so smaller? A- Well, everybody does that. Q- I told you I just wanted natural look on the back with little bit tapered. Why did you make it so small all the way up. A- Everybody does this way. One of the two or three best haircuts I've ever gotten, for a very reasonable price for this area ($14). Wish I'd discovered this place before my wedding rather than shortly after... Will be returning here as long as I'm in the area. I had Lee, if memory serves, and he was definitely a perfectionist, even though I had just asked for a medium haircut; used scissors all the way through, worked incrementally (multiple rounds on each side of the head) to make sure everything worked together. So don't expect this to be a quick job (I was in the chair a good 20 minutes); but it's worth the wait. Also don't expect conversation; the only words we exchanged were him asking about half-way through whether I was happy with the front. I got a disconnected undercut (sides and back only - buzzer and finishing touch with the scissor cut) and my barber was above average in her handiwork. A few notes: They don't take reservations, only walk-ins so getting a fast haircut is very easy; place is cash only; and the more specific you are about how you want your hair the better (this goes for most barber shops with decently skilled barbers) - bringing a picture or two of the hairstyle you want (better if its a picture of you) really goes a long way in giving the barber a roadmap. read more
