The place is clean, spacious, and has a warm homey vibe. Good for date night, family dinner, or even a bigger group. Restrooms were clean too. We started with the Caesar salad, then shared the chicken marsala, angel hair estiva, and a side of meatballs. Everything was really good and felt like classic comfort Italian food. I had heard about Roma D Italia growing up in the area. This is a Tustin landmark going back to when I was a kid. This is old school all the way, sort of like a living museum of my life in Southern California. I took my son. I told him, this is a living example of the only type of restaurants around when I grew up in Newport Beach in the 1970's. You put your name on a list, and then you speak to a human. You wait in your car for someone to call you. She did. They told us our table was ready. As we walked to the car, I noticed many men wore tyes and dress shirts, even sport coats. The ladies were wearing dresses. We went inside. The inside is covered with Italian paintings and pictures of family member and newspaper reviews and rewards. The owner was there and she was very vocal with her staff. Everyone was running around. The smell of delicious bakery and Italian food. We sat down and boom, they drop some fresh baked dinner rolls and a huge dish of butter. Again, this is the way it used to be: bread and butter were freely given to you. This is my kind of place. We decided to share a caesar salad and clams and linguine. The food quality was five stars. Everything was so good. We decided to get a Pizza Bread for appetizer. We shared our food and took a lot of food home. The food value is a literal "Steal," and we left feeling like we were paying 1980 prices. Oh, this place is amazing. My favorite was the pepperoni rolls - simple, but made with fresh ingredients and bread and cheese is the ultimate combo. They also provide free bread that's crunchy on the outside and soft inside, along with butter. The one downside is that since it's an older building there is a smell, but you may get use to it after being there for a while, or you can ask to be seated outside. read more

Has been my go-to for Italian food. My regular order is calamari and angel hair chicken fresco. The calamari is well seasoned and tender and love the marinara sauce it comes with and that they give a good amount of it so you don't have to be stingy with the dipping. Even the lemons it comes with are hella juicy. The angel hair chicken fresco is simple and isn't that saucy but there's a lot of flavor, def garlic forward. It comes with a good amount of chicken so I can enjoy most of my bites with chicken and noodle. I've also tried their eggplant Parmesan, meatball with marinara, spinach bread, tortellini, cannelloni, and shell combo pasta. All were delicious and would def get again. No complaints except I would've loved if they had a vodka sauce like a spicy vodka rigatoni dish cuz that's a pasta dish I love in general. read more

However, we were able to get seated pretty quickly (15 min wait tops) and our server was extremely friendly and attentive. Our food also came out pretty quickly with how busy it was. At least that is what I am finding out. Some things are good and others are just not. This time I sampled some new entrees out. I ordered the salmon salad. It was alright. The salmon wasn't cooked all the way through and was a little too pink for me. I also tried the calzone. It was different. The filling was a mixture of ricotta cheese and other things. It wasn't a stretchy or stringy cheese. Not enough mozzarella in the calzone for me. I like a stretchy mozzarella cheese in my calzones. The ricotta mixture was very creamy, but it didn't have the mozzarella taste that I like. My husband also agreed that it was weird. Service was good. Our waitress was really friendly. Haven't been here in years and it's improved so much! I remember this place smelling damp and the food tasting reheated a few years ago, but I gave it another chance and am glad I did so. All of our food was so tasty, portions were large, and service was friendly. The restaurant also now smells like tomato sauce and garlic. I went with my family and wasn't sure what to get, so I asked the waiter what was the most similar to a spicy vodka pasta. He modified one of the pastas (Mostaccioli Catanzaro) to be spicy and it was pretty good. I enjoyed it but wouldn't say I loved it. This is such a cozy place to get italian food! The staff is very friendly and despite it being a busy weekend, we were seated quickly. They had a variety of options on their menu and after some perusing, we decided on moscato and strawberry martini for our drinks, calamari for a starter, and chicken piccata and eggplant parmigiana for our entrees. Drinks- Moscato was mild and sweet. The strawberry martini was fruity. Both were quite refreshing. Calamari- The breading was flavorful and crispy. The interior was the perfect amount of chewy. The lemon wedge and marinara sauce provided added a burst of freshness. Chicken Piccata- The chicken was tender and full of zesty, citrusy flavor with a hint of white wine from the sauce. The capers added a layer of brine. Eggplant Parmigiana- The eggplant was baked to perfection with gooey melted cheese on top. The marina sauce was rich was flavorful and it paired well with pasta. I was never a fan of cannolis but this one really changed me.. the cream wasn't heavy had the right amount of sweetness, the crust and all the chocolate chips were perfection! You can never go wrong with a tiramisu, sooo so good! Moist, perfect sweetness, and creamy. Service was great! Angel our server was charismatic and took care of us. I took a dish to go and we will be returning at some point as service and food had a great lasting impression. This place is obviously a hit. I have been coming to this restaurant for 31 years. I would come here when I was 15yr old on dates with my little boyfriend at the time. I celebrated my shower here. I celebrated my kiddo's birthdays here. I have celebrated my kiddo's first communion here. I have celebrated Valentine's Day here. We've been coming here for family dinner. I have had bad experiences before but I have never left a review. The food is good, so I have overlooked the service. Today was a nice day, cool 69* sunny day, with a cool breeze. We were seated outside which was nice until the breeze picked up. Our napkins kept flying away, and we had to place items to weigh down napkins and the bread basket. We asked an employee to turn a heat lamp on which he did. The owner came along minutes later mumbled something under her breath and turned it off. We did not complain and let it be. If the heat lamp was on it's obvious a customer requested it. My three kids were all cold and trembling. A busboy noticed my kids were cold and asked us if we want the heat on so we said yes. The owner came by 20 minutes later and turned the lamp off again. Part of the service is to ensure that your customers are not only happy with the food but the full experience. It's common sense that if the heat is on, someone is cold. Maybe she has forgotten to be courteous to all her customers. But we did not get a smile from her, or a hello. She looked angry and definitely aggressive when turning the heat off herself while mumbling under her breath complaining about the heat being on and then a second time when she had the busboy turn it off. His face expression was of embarrassment as he was the one who asked us if we wanted it turned on because my three littles were cold. I know this type of attitude, I recognize it unfortunately. It's of someone who is now older and everything bothers them. Maybe she should stay home, and let someone else run the business now. I can tell you after 31 years of coming, and after going to their Orange location that was eventually closed down, I will not be returning to spend money here again. It's the longest running family owned Italian restaurant in Tustin and it shows - very homey feel with an extensive menu and although it's bigger than a small mom and pop shop, it maintains the intimate feel of a small locally owned Italian joint. Anytime visitors come to town and are craving Italian food, this is our go to spot. We've been coming here for more than a decade and everything we've tried has been excellent. Favorites include the Penne Amore, Lasagna, Eggplant Parm, Caesar salad, pizza bread and pepperoni pizza. Fresh, warm rolls and butter are served with every meal. They don't take reservations so unless you get there early, prepare for a wait. We typically wait about 30 minutes on busy weekends. Parking can be challenging with a small dedicated lot, but there's street parking and also a shopping center across the street that you can park in after hours. Stay and hang out in Old Town Tustin afterwards as there are plenty of other fun places to check out in the area. read more

However, lasagne is in a single bowl and not layered and some no meat options like Angel Hair Estiva sauced with tomato, garlic, olive oil, and feta cheese. Plating is simple but the Shrimp Cappelini has 8 jumbo shrimp over a more tomato-ey version of Angel Hair Estiva. Love their pizza and other dishes as well. Pasta dishes come with home made simple rolls and butter. The tomato sauce is rich and garlicky. Service: Usually moderate to fast, and most of the servers are quick on their feet despite the large number of tables they serve. Refills on coke and water. Food comes out hot because expediters as well as the wait staff bring out the food as soon as it's cooked and is hot. Overall - Arguable the most successful restaurant in Tustin. Prices start at around $16 for many pasta dishes. House burgundy is $7 a glass. Closed on Mondays. Loud and lively even on a Sunday night. Most restaurants would kill to have standing room only waiting for a table at 7:15 on a Sunday night but this is typical for this standout family Italian restaurant. After researching a lot of restaurants to posibly eat dinner at after attending a Trans Siberian Orchestra concert at the Honda Center, Roma D'Italia checked off a lot of boxes for me to make this our choice for dinner after the concert. Parking was a bit of a challenge, both on-street and the restaurant's private lot. Eventually, we were able to find parking and walked across El Camino Real to Roma D' Italia. upon entering, the smell of something wonderful hit all of our olfactory senses with tease of what was to hit our tastebuds soon. I walked up to the hostess desk and was warmly and cheerfully greeted. I placed our group name on the wait list and accepted their first available seating be it indoors or out on their patio, which was being warmed by several patio heaters. In just a few minutes, my name was called and were escorted to an indoor table. As I walked by the other dining areas, I observed almost every table was occupied except for the ones being prepped for another seating of hungry guests. Shortly after being seated, a small basket of fresh baked rolls with pats of butter, were brought to our table. The tasty, soft rolls tasted like the dough used to make old school bread sticks but without the crunch or avalanche of crumbs. Soon our server, Fernando, arrived to take our drink order: three sodas @$4.25 each; one glass of Chianti @$9.50. Shortly after receiving our dinks, we were finally able to drill down on Roma D' Italia's extensive menu that offered so many delicious sounding choices. I don't know why this place is still in business. The food makes Olive Garden or Bucca di Peppo like a Michelin*! Worst chicken masala.. is liquidy not saucy. Meat sauce... I don't even know what that is. Charged me extra $4 for a cup of a bland thing coming out of a jar. Don't call Bruschetta if you don't know how to make a simple dish! You basically re-toast garlic cheese bread from frozen package paired with a cup of extremely pickled vinegared tomato/onion mixture. There is no way these food were house made fresh everyday unless you plan to serve denture central clientele in a buffet line! Everything is bland and no taste. If you sous vide it, put extra effort to finalize the dish so it will taste better. Feel like you just re heat it in the microwave! We can never get back our hard work $70 for this!
