I had an absolutely wonderful dining experience at Oliver's Trattoria. The modern, bright atmosphere made us feel completely at home. The highlight of our evening was the exceptional service. I didn't catch our server's name but he mentioned he has been with the restaurant since day one and it shows. His hospitality and attentiveness elevated our entire meal. They started us with fresh, warm focaccia bread and an incredible olive tapenade dip. We ordered the Filetto di Branzino (among other things). It was incredibly moist and flavorful. We also shared the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese and you can immediately taste the "homemade" quality of their fresh pasta and ingredients. read more

We live very close to Oliver's and have been here since it opened and loved it. We have birthdays and celebrations of all kinds at Olivers. Today we had the worst experience of any Italian restaurant we've ever visited. First the service was awful! I couldn't tell you the name of the server (it says server 2) but he was very loud, very aggressive, truculent, abrupt, and dismissive - We felt like we had entered a remake of some cheap maffioso film...... We missed ordering a number of things we wanted, he argued with us on the way we wanted our cappuccino and we ended up spending $139 for lunch for two without any wine or drinks. It appears we had no choice but to give a tip by the way he introduced the hand held checkout terminal. The food was also substandard. The salmon was "fishy" and the "halibut" was dry and poorly cooked. We had the impression the regular chef was missing...we have never seen such poor quality in Oliver's. The ambiance was tough....the entire patio was empty because of the heat....they really need to install windows that can be closed so that this area of seating can be available. But it was not and the main dining room was full and very loud. Ambiance was terrible and I supposed the waiter compensated by yelling at everyone. Not an experience we wish to repeat. read more

Ok, not great. We thought the restaurant looked classy and was in a nice neighborhood but the food was just not amazing. Staff was friendly, so couldn't complain about that, but just mediocre food. The opening focaccia bread was good, but the margherita pizza and carbonara were really not dishes I would ever get again. The dough wasn't tasty and the carbonara needed seasoning. I love Italian food so I was excited to try out this restaurant, but I was severely disappointed. Aesthetically, the restaurant is pretty cute. Seating had a more casual vibe, but the chandeliers and lighting give some elegance to the room. To start, the Focaccia bread and Insalata Cesare were both delicious. The three entrees we ordered fell short though. For mains we ordered the Lasagna Classica, Tortelli di Erbette, and the Branzino al Sale. The Lasagna was very meat heavy, which was great, but there wasn't much cheese. The Tortelli di Erbette was very bland and the portion was very small. Finally, the presentation for the Branzino was top notch. The server poured vodka and lit the fish on fire before dissecting it tableside. The meat was very tender and delicate, but it needed some kind of sauce, which I think the server forgot to place on the table. Overall, most of the food was pretty lacking in flavor and the portion sizes were small for the price. The service wasn't great either so I doubt I'd return here any time soon. read more

This might be one of the most authentic Italian restaurants I've been to in Orange County. The place has a refined, upscale atmosphere. Our server was, I believe, from Italy, which made the experience feel even more authentic. He was very friendly, and had that cheeky, no-nonsense charm that somehow made the service even more enjoyable. What I appreciated most about Oliver's Trattoria is their philosophy toward pasta. So many restaurants load pasta dishes up with proteins, vegetables, and a dozen other distractions. Here, the pasta is the star of the show. Everything is handmade, and the dishes are designed to let the pasta do the talking. Cacio e Pepe (9/10) - Phenomenal. It's surprisingly difficult to find a cacio e pepe around here, so I was glad to even see it on the menu. My only critique is that it was just a tad too salty and maybe had a little too much cheese, if such a thing is even possible. Truffle Beef Carpaccio (10/10) - Oh my days. This was the highlight of the meal. The truffle flavour came through beautifully and paired perfectly with the delicate slices of beef. Truffle Pasta (7/10) - The pasta itself was perfectly al dente. My only issue was that the truffle flavor felt a bit muted, especially considering the price point.. Been wanting to try Oliver's Trattoria in Irvine for a while and finally managed to get a reservation for Friday evening at 6:30pm and the place was packed. We were seated on the outdoor patio, which had the perfect ambience as the evening started to settle in. We started with the Fritto Misto, which was awesome. The calamari and shrimp had just the right amount of breading, and the arrabbiata sauce pairing was spot on. For dinner, the three of us decided to share a few dishes: the Branzino al Sale, Margherita pizza, and Spaghetti allo Scoglio. The Branzino al Sale had a great tableside flame presentation, and they deboned and filleted it for us, which was really impressive. We were super excited for it, but unfortunately it was way too salty for our taste. We mentioned it to our waiter, and he handled it really well by switching it out for the lamb chop special of the day. That ended up being the star of the night, honestly one of the best lamb chops we've had. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and tender and love the chimichurri sauce with it. The Margherita and Spaghetti allo Scoglio were both very good as well. To finish, we shared the Affogato, Panna Cotta, and Tiramisu, and all three desserts were amazing. Love this place. The atmosphere is great, and I love the Italian waiters. The focaccia starter bread is fantastic, and the olive tapenade is really good too. The salad was one of the best parts. The margarita pizza is a great size and cooked perfectly. I didn't really care for the lemon cream pasta, but the spaghetti pomodoro is definitely the better option. Everything tastes fresh and makes you feel like you're back in Italy. It does get busy, so I'd recommend a reservation. It was our first time here at Oliver's Trattoria. We had dinner on a Thursday evening. Fortunately, we were seated right away at a booth towards the back of the restaurant near the server station (not the best view). It seemed pretty busy overall. We were glad we didn't have to wait for a table. I didn't catch our server's name, but he was friendly and spoke with an accent. The restaurant is beautiful and tastefully decorated with modern accents throughout. There is a bar in the front on the side as you enter and different dining areas, including an outdoor patio. The lighting is perfect for each section creating a cozy, warm and inviting ambience. Complimentary fresh warm bread with an olive tapenade dip was brought out while waiting for our dishes. This was very nice since we were both hungry. We started off with the Polpette, beef tenderloin meatballs, stuffed with taleggio cheese served with Arrabiata sauce and green peas. These were tasty initially. I wasn't too crazy about the texture of the inside of the meatball, which was rather extra soft or mushy. It was a little on the stronger cheesy side for me. Next up, we had sausage and mushroom pizza with parmigiano cheese, or known as Boscaiola. I enjoyed the different variety of mushroom toppings. Again initially, I enjoyed the flavors, but the strong cheese was overpowering for my taste. I'm not accustomed to that much cheese since I am lactose intolerant, but wanted to indulge in the authentic flavors for the full experience. Lastly, we had a pasta dish, Tagliatelle alla Bolognese with Parmigiano Reggiano. I enjoyed the texture of the fresh pasta the most. At this point, I think the strong presence of cheese got to me and I lost interest. We brought our leftovers home. Beautiful Italian restaurant in the Quail Hill section of Irvine. The bread they put on the table before our meal was SO tasty - I think it had rosemary in it, and was accompanied by some type of caper olive oil paste. My rigatoni with pork cheeks was excellent! The food was also top notch. Wasn't expecting it but everything we tried was exceptional. Of course, when at an Italian restaurant you must try their pastas. Here's what we tried: 1. Tagliatelle de Bolognese: this was the most fantastic bolognese ever (hands down). Made with homemade pasta and deliciously served with bechamel and bolognese sauce. I'm gonna be honest, in most restaurants, the Bolognese tends to have that slight gaming scent and taste to it. Here at Oliver's Trattoria, the Bolognese has just absolutely splendid. This is a must must try. 2. Tagliolini al Limone: Homemade linguine with a creamy and buttery texture, and cheesy Parmesan sauce. The lemon notes were just perfectly added which balanced the excessive buttery flavor. I'm usually a marinara or Bolognese type of girl when it comes to my pasta, but the tagliolini al limone was a five star dish. So happy we took the advice of our server. 3. Prosciutto E Burrata pizza: oven cooked pizza with a generous layer of cheesy mozzarella Dior di latte topped with a 24 month aged prosciutto San Daniele, basil, arugula, and burrata. Another A+++ This restaurant was very impressive. Service with fast and the staff definitely knew the menu very well. I'm excited to go back and try few more dishes. Amazing! All the vibes and all the flavors! Stopped in here prior to my daughter's soccer practice and we both agreed very pleased from start to finish. Beautiful restaurant indoors or outdoors. It was nice weather so we opted to sit out on the covered patio. Our waiter was prompt and knew the menu very well. He was sure to mention the specials and was very polite with my daughter by suggesting the Shirley temple + extra cherry. Oh and that bread to start with!!! Mmmmmm! While there was a wonderful selection to choose from my daughter ordered a fire oven pepperoni pizza while I opted for my favorite Cacio e Pepe. I also indulged in a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. My daughter love love loved her pizza! I've never seen her tummy get so full with enjoyment in every bite. I may have stole a slice later and can confirm it's yumminess haha! Bolognese - super salty and a very small portion Calamari - was soggy Margarita pizza - this is actually pretty good and I would recommend it The Caesar salad - $21.... That was ridiculous. Bronzino - it was OK. Definitely not seasoned well enough and the portion was tiny. So basically, we left hungry and my kids had to go around the corner to go get some dessert because they left unsatisfied. With a bill of close to $200 I was incredibly disappointed with the food. Elegant restaurant but the service both times I dined here with my husband earlier this year was unacceptable. Both times, we came here during lunch time during the weekday and it was not busy. Both times we had waiters with beautiful Italian accents, but they were not friendly at all. Both times they took our order, then dropped off our food and NEVER came back to check up on us or give us our bill or refill our water. It was NOT busy at all, I had no clue where they went both times. Now to the food. The complimentary focaccia bread with Olive tapenade the first time was amazing. It was the best complimentary bread we ever had. Fresh and hot out of the oven. It was delicious and exceptional. The second time, the bread was very cold and didn'lt taste as good as the first time. Meatballs were boring in flavor and raw in the middle by about 1/4 of an inch inside. Couldn't tell the waiter as no waiter came by to check on us. Calamari was some of the best I've ever had. The star of the show is the lemon pasta for lunch. Order it with a side of grilled shrimp. And I still think about it till this day. It's the best pasta I've ever had, hands down. The pizza is solid here. Both times had to flag down a busser for our bill as no waiter was in site the whole time both times after our order were taken. Returned to Oliver's Trattoria for a special occasion. This time we were seated in the dining room, which is much brighter and not as noisy as the patio. The Salmone all'Aglio Nero ($40), with a tasty citrus-black garlic sauce, was perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior and soft interior. The housemade pastas were excellent - Tagliatelle alla Bolognese ($33) and Spaghetti allo Scoglio ($38), which was loaded with mussels, shrimp and calamari. We didn't order dessert since we had cake at home, but they gave us a complimentary panna cotta (which was very nice). My family and I arrived around 6:25 for our 6:30 reservation to celebrate my partner's and my birthday. Upon first entering, I thought the restaurant was warm and cozy, especially on a rainy evening. The host offered us a booth suited for 5 people, but it was a tight squeeze for the 6 of us so we asked to wait for a more spacious table. We ended up being seated at a table next to the bar around 6:50. The wait was a bit long considering that we had made a reservation in advance, but the service was top notch once we sat down! Our server Amira was amazing - so friendly, helpful, and kind to us. She checked in on us regularly, brought us bread for the table multiple times, and made sure we had everything we needed. She was super great! We ordered our food to share family style since the portions were so large. For appetizers, we ordered the Fritto Misto calamari and the Polpette meatballs. The calamari was light and crispy, but the meatballs were a little soft. I think I would have preferred them to be more solid. But the Insalata di Barbabietole (arugula with goat cheese, walnuts, beets, and citrus) was a tasty and refreshing salad to pair with the heavier menu items. For entrees, we enjoyed the Gnocchi a Scelta with Pomodoro, which was was delicious and perfectly cooked. Loved the tomato-based sauce that wasn't too acidic. The Short Rib Risotto was a bit too heavy for my preference but the rest of my family enjoyed it a lot. Lastly, the Speck e Funghi pizza was okay, it was a bit dry and the smoked proscuitto was thicker than I'd like. Once we finished our meal, Amira then brought us two complementary panna cottas for a birthday dessert which were really tasty! The official closing time posted online and their front door says 9 PM. The host said they're closing early because it was slow because of July 4th. Checked their website, no notice of an early closure. Checked their instagram, no notice either. This is the second time we arrived well before closing, but told the kitchen closed already. We kicked things off with their focaccia bread and olive dip, and honestly, that dip should come with a warning label. We wiped the plate clean and asked for seconds without hesitation. The salamino Neapolitan pizza had just the right kick with a perfect crust. The beet salad was fresh and bright. The strozzapreti truffle pasta was next level, rich, earthy, and ridiculously good. This is honestly my favorite restaurant, and being so close to my office makes it even better. We regularly come here for lunch appointments, and it's always a great experience. I especially love the chef's specials. I tried one recently (pictured) with saffron I wish I remembered the name but it was absolutely wonderful. And the pizza was super solid. I like a good looking pizza and this pizza is a good looking pizza. Authentic and I made sure to get it with the buffalo mozzarella because that's even better. The food was absolutely delicious. Across the board. The pasta was a little al dente for me, but the flavor was so good and the sauces were amazing so I really didn't care. It's all personal preference when it comes to stuff like that. But, the dining room was so cramped. They sat us at the tiniest table for two, that was on the corner of another room, and half of our tiny little table was jutted out into the walkway. Super awkward seating. The service was quiet and loud, all at the same time. Someone brought our water, then appetizer, we said thank you, they didn't even respond, it was like we never said a word. But the waiter yelled the specials, loud enough for the whole dining room to hear. He did that again when he made sure to joke about a tip when he sat the "point of sale" register down in front of us. But again that food though! Went last night with another couple to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant was fairly full with several large groups dining. Reservations are strongly recommended. Cocktails, wine, and appetizers were the start of a great dining experience. Our server (Giovanni?) was great and very knowledgeable about each item on the menu and also provided off menu specials. The Buffalo mozzarella, roasted eggplant, and heirloom tomatoes appetizer was a nice and light start followed by the octopus roasted potatoes and arugula appetizer. The octopus appetizer was the bomb. We each ordered a different entree. Our friends had the salmon and the special sea bream. I got to try the sea cream and thought it was very nice. My wife opted for the filet mignon with a creamy gorgonzola sauce covered with fresh shaved black truffle. I had the oxtail ragout. Ioved the fresh handmade pappardelle pasta and the ragout was out of this world. We finished with panna cota and blueberries, cheesecake, and affogato. The chef and team are very talented and I would say this was perhaps one of the most authentic and best Italian trattorias in Orange County I have the pleasure of dining at. For my birthday, my husband and I tried Oliver's Trattoria for the first time, and we're so glad we did. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in white, with a charming outdoor patio that adds to the atmosphere. We started with fresh cut up bread and a flavorful olive spread it was simple and delicious. I had a Cabernet, my husband ordered a martini, and we shared a caprese with prosciutto and tomatoes that was fresh and perfectly balanced. For entrées, I ordered the Chilean sea bass. It was moist, tangy, and served with black rice and spinach. It was excellent. My husband had the classic lasagna and loved it, saying it was rich, well seasoned, and full of flavor. Service was attentive without being overbearing. My husband, who's European from Serbia, felt the food delivered an authentic European vibe, which made the experience even better. For my birthday we had a berry custard followed by lemon liqueur shots, and an espresso for my husband. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. So happy to have a great Italian restaurant nearby. read more

Not to be dramatic, but the Strozzapreti alla Norcina e Tartufo Nero at Oliver's Trattoria was kind of life changing. THE MOOD: Hubby and I went to Oliver's for a date night and it's now our new favorite date spot. When you walk in, the restaurant just feels elegant and romantic. You are able to see the bar area right as you walk in and it is beautifully lit up and inviting. There is plenty of indoor seating and outdoor seating where it has an open concept. There's also a private room you can rent out that is just as elegantly decorated. It was also fun seeing the pastas being handmade as we walked in. The ambiance in the restaurant overall is warm and inviting and decor feels elevated and fresh. Definitely a great spot for a date night or special occasion. I would say this is also probably a good spot for business meetings. THE FOOD: As soon as you sit down, you are given warm focaccia bread and this delightful olive spread. *Cocktails: For drinks we got the Aperol Spritz, Limone & Fragola, and Hugo Spritz. All were deliciously mixed and my favorite was the Hugo Spritz. If you like moscato, this was very reminiscent of that. *Anguria e Caprino: This is a watermelon salad and the watermelon comes out balled with goat cheese and lemon dressing. It was a hot day and this was such a delicious light refreshing dish. *Cantaloupe, Prosciutto, and Cheese: This was also a very light refreshing dish. The cantaloupe was really sweet and the sharpness of the cheese and smokiness of the prosciutto was a nice blend of flavors. *Polipo: If you like octopus like I do, you will love this dish. If I ever see octopus on a menu, I'm usually getting that dish - something about those tentacles that are just so fun to eat. This one did not disappoint - the octopus was perfectly cooked where the texture was both tender and crispy. *Speck e Funghi: This pizza comes with smoked prosciutto, mozzarella, gorgonzola, mushrooms, basil, and parmigiano. I love mushroom pizzas and they were super generous with their tasty mushrooms. Their pizzas had the perfect chew and thickness to it. Hubby doesn't usually like mushrooms, but he couldn't stop talking about this pizza and how he now wants to try every pizza on their menu. *Spaghetti allo Scoglio: This is a seafood pasta. It comes with calamari, clams, mussels, and shrimp in a tomato sauce, white wine sauce and garlic. We loved the seafood taste in every bite - the manager suggested we also crush some black pepper over it and honestly, it brought out the wonderful flavors even more. * Strozzapreti alla Norcina e Tartufo Nero: This is a handmade strozzapreti pasta with a parmigiano cream sauce and includes sausages, mushrooms, and shaved truffles. The chew to the pasta was so perfectly cooked. The pasta shape also picked up all the wonderful flavors of the creamy/mushroomy flavor and the truffles that topped it off made each bite heavenly. This pasta was probably one of my favorite things to have eaten in a long time. We had leftovers that we took home and I was desperately finding things around the house the next day to scrape up the remaining sauce - don't judge my life :) *Branzino al Sale: If you want some entertainment while you eat, you need to get the branzino. Its sea bass basked in a sea salt crust, lemon, EVOO, and fresh herbs. They roll it out on a table and set it on fire table side, carve it up, and beautifully plate it for you. The sea bass was so flaky and tender and the flavors of the fish were brought out by sea salt crust. *Desserts: For desserts, we tried Tiramisu, Creme Brûlée, and the Bigne. Not to be dramatic again, but their tiramisu is probably the best I've ever had. It just had the perfect amount of espresso soaked cake and their mascarpone cream was just so light, fluffy, and cloud like and the cocoa was a wonderful addition to tie this whole dessert together. THE 'TUDE: Everyone from the hostess, wait staff, and manager operated so professionally. My parents used to own a restaurant so I usually pay particular attention to how restaurant staff moves out of habit. I just noticed that everyone was so professional and nice - it really made this dining experience even more special. You can tell there were happy return customers because as we ate, the manager would greet those guests and ask "you want the usual?" Service alone usually is the determining factor of whether Hubby and I will return to a restaurant and this one is on point! OVERALL: Overall, we loved the romantic vibes, the EXCEPTIONAL food (I see you strozzapreti), and wonderful service, we will definitely be back! read more
