I'm surprised I haven't written a review here yet! My husband and I are becoming quite the regulars here so this is definitely past due! This is one of our go-to date spot that our friends introduced to us to. From my understanding this is Italian owned business with not only great quality food but also a wonderful assortment of rich olive oil, balsamic vinegar, jam, wine, packaged noodles you can buy straight from Italy. The service is always friendly but they can get very busy. Highly recommend a reservation. They've been so busy before they wouldn't even do take out orders. Ambiance is quaint. I love the beautiful Italian chandeliers they have. I've had a hard time with the chairs if I have a thick coat or a clutch hand back hard to put on the seat My husband orders the carbonara everytime which is our favorite item on the menu. Very authentic to us. I've tried many different pastas and just tried the lasagna last night which is not super heavy if your hesitant on feeling too full, was a great portion amount and wasn't super greasy either. Other items I've tried are the but my favorites are the fettuccine Alfredo (not on the menu), the short rib ravioli - super tasty!, and this mozerella crusted Pattie's in balsamic and creamy tomato sauce (seasonal or not on the menu sometime) that we love! I wanted to love the seafood risotto but I've had better. I used to order paccheri alla boscaiola which a popular item but I have to be in the mood for all the red onions which can be overpowering if there's a lot. We have tried some Of the apps which are always super fresh but we tend to order insalata calabrese which has a bit of everything Italian salad and great for sharing. The free bread is a plus too. This place is such a gem! I had been trying to go and finally did and let me tell you, it is such an amazing experience! We sat at the bar and had some Italian beer and wine. I visited Francoli Gourmet on a Sunday for Mother's Day dinner with my family. We got the calamari alla fra diavola to share with the table, & I ordered the salmone all'arancia as my main. I also got to try a few bites of my family members' dishes & liked everything across the board, but wouldn't necessarily say anything was anything to write home about. The live music was a lovely addition to the ambiance. The one downside was that the service was a bit slow, which was slightly stressful since my sister had somewhere to be & had to leave a little early. Would be open to visiting again, but I would most likely consider other options beforehand. read more

I almost hate to share this place but I saw the 4 stars and realized they need a bump up in ratings. I got tired of Italian food but my family loves it so I took them out to this new spot. I've got little kids, who are picky eaters. They loved all of it! We ordered the special lamb ossobuco, a kids size spaghetti bolognese, and a pasta I can't remember. I thought the kids would not like the ossobuco, but they tried it once, twice, three times, and eventually ate it all. The ossobuco also came with pappardelle noodles, and the kids enjoyed those too! Francoli's is a small, quaint corner restaurant right in the heart of Orange Circle--so convenient that it feels like it's in our own backyard. The pasta quality is consistently excellent, and you can really taste the homemade care in every bite. I ordered the wide tube sausage pasta and it was so, so, so good, while my husband loved his seafood pasta. The rest of the food was just as delicious. Service was wonderful--attentive, kind, and knowledgeable staff made the whole experience even better. If I had one critique, it's that the special mozzarella felt a bit pricey for only two pieces. But honestly, it's a small drawback compared to everything else they do so well. I really enjoyed the food! Started with a calamari, and I really enjoyed the texture. It was perfectly chewy and drenched in marinara sauce. The sauce was beautifully seasoned, and it wasn't missing a thing. Order the cacio e pepe and it was so delicious and not overwhelmingly creamy. The noodles were cooked al dente which i prefer. Topped with fresh graded parmesan on cheese. Ordered a specialty dish, which came with lamb and fettuccine noodles. The meat was delicious and it fell off the bone! The sauce came with a marinara style sauce with chunks of meat in it. Our least favorite thing was the bread, as it came cold and It wasn't too soft. Our server was polite and attentive. The waiters will come by every 5m to clear a plate as soon as they see one to grab, and they will stare you down when they're not hovering - Our waiter kept reaching around our shoulders and heads to grab dishes. To start with, our server's shirt was filthy and splattered with red sauce. I don't know what the situation was, but this seemed like an appropriate time to wear aprons to avoid that. He kept reaching around me and bumping up against me when there was ample space to maneuver around me. It's always a trade off between handing the food directly to the person furthest away from you, or just place the plate down and have people pass it down to whoever ordered the dish. Getting elbowed in the face and trying to dodge him every time he came around was not a pleasant experience. For what seems to be a fancy restaurant, they didn't have any salt or pepper on the table. I had to ask for some, and was handed a thimble-sized shaker. It's possible that they grind the pepper fresh in the back and refill these shakers, but... it didn't taste like fresh ground pepper. The bread basket that came out had maybe 3 varieties of bread. One type was fluffy and great, and the others tasted stale and dry. I ordered the pasta carbonara, and the flavor was fine if not a little heavy. It was made with bucatini, which was an interesting choice because that's not what I would've chosen to use for this dish. Due to the thickness of the bucatini, the balance of pasta/sauce was off and it was too pasta heavy. Changing the type of pasta used could help with the balance. My sister ordered some type of tortelloni with a red limoncello sauce since it was one of the few vegetarian items on the menu. The tortelloni was great, but the sauce was NOT. To me, it was a deterrent from finishing the dish and we ended up trying to wipe off as much sauce off the tortelloni as possible, just to finish the meal. I wish we could have rinsed it. My other friends both got the gnocchi dish, which was also delicious. It seems to be a crowd favorite for a reason, and maybe worth keeping if they decide to pare down the menu in the future. Overall, I would not come back. The service wasn't great and the dishes were such a hit or miss that it isn't worth the gamble. read more

Quaint little restaurant in the heart of the town plaza. Good location but parking can be a bit challenging on a weekend night. We met up with a couple of friends on a Saturday evening for an early dinner. The restaurant was packed. Note: Reservation is highly recommended. It took a good 15 minutes after we got seated to get the menus. Was trying to flag a server down but they were unfortunately avoiding eye contact. But once our server approached us, it was good after that. Our server was friendly and appropriately attentive. Food was passable. The beef special was the favorite of the meal. The PENNE AL SALMONE and RAVIOLI DI BRASATO came in second. My go-to entree is the LINGUINE CON VONGOLE. I was excited to see the dish on the menu but sad to say, this was the disappointing, unimpressive dish of the evening. Presentation was good but wasn't tasty (a bit bland and gummy). This has to be my favorite Italian place in Orange County! It's hard to find an Italian restaurant that serves good quality sauce and perfectly cooked pasta texture. This is one of those restaurants where I do not mind paying the price to experience made from scratch dishes that are curated by an experienced chef. Service can be a bit snobby and cold. Francoli Gourmet at the Circle in "fun" Old Town Orange, is a gourmet trattoria (restaurant) with authentic Northern Italian cuisine and high-quality, traditional dishes. The interior of the restaurant is elegant, Artsy, warm and inviting. Adjacent to the open bar is a large library type, wall to wall and wall to ceiling wine cabinet with hundreds of wine bottles on display. The restaurant lighting is very comfortable and the interior overall really beautiful. It is Cozy and Perfect for a date night, a celebration or any occasion. I could not find a dress code posted on their website but depending on the occasion, it can range from formal to business or smart casual. I was invited for my birthday and i really enjoyed my dinner with good friends and good food. The Menu has plenty of options to choose from. Each one more attractive than the next. Right off the bat, They brought out some house made bread for dipping in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. For appetizers, we ordered the Caprese and the Calamari. The Caprese tasted super fresh and the calamari was not fried but rather seemed to be cooked in a tomato based broth. The Calamari was good but a little too chewy for my taste. As a main course, I ordered one of my all time favorites. A traditional Roman dish. The "Cacio e pepe". It is one very simple pasta dish that, if not made with attention and knowledge, can go very wrong. It is basically made with freshly grated pecorino Cheese and freshly ground pepper. It was creamy with just the right amount of Pecorino cheese and the perfect amount of saltiness. and so incredibly satisfying. My friends ordered the Pork Chop ai Funghi Porcini and the Linguini con vongole (clams). I don't personally eat Pork. But The Pork chop was a huge portion and looked as though it was cooked to perfection. It came with mushrooms, other veggies and butter like mashed potatoes. Everything looked and tasted amazing. For dessert, we got the tiramisu which was the best one I've ever had and we got a strawberry Pana cota on the house for my birthday. The Pana Cota was so light that it melted in your mouth. It was better than the one i had in Italy. Overall, this was an amazing experience and The service was nothing short of excellent. Great spot. Great food. Great ambiance. Had a work event here. Its a small cozy restaurant with limited seating inside and some more tables outside. Its dark in here but romantically lit. I love e their wall of wines and alcohol along the long wall of the building. On one side they have the kitchen and on the other side a small bar. It gets pretty loud in here. Probably because our table of 11 was the loudest in here!! Our waiter was ok. Seemed kind of rushed and rocky. But that's OK, because he really knew the menu well and even memorized what all 11 of us ordered, appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks!! Service does take some time here as we had to wait for our waiter to come back and either get us the dessert menu or the bill or get our orders. But we were talking a lot so that wasn't too bad either. My wife and I ordered the following: 1. Beef carpacio- thin slices of raw beef. It was really delicate and fresh. Great taste. It was really good 2. Calamari- they tell you from the get go its not the breaded or fried type that many are accustomed too. Lots of peices from the rings to the tentacles in a creamy tomato type sauce/soup. Which there was more bread to soak up the sauce. 3. Furmaggi misti- like a charcuterie plate. The jams are really good. Nice medley of finger foods. 4. Bruschetta- this was ok. It was missing some sort of vinaigrette. But each peice of bread was packed to the brim with toppings. 5. Cioppino- this was a really large entree with large amounts of clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops and calamari. The sauce was really hot temp wise. And they had 2 nice and succulent baby lobster tail on top. Some pasta in the bottom. Could've used some more bread to soak up the sauce. 6. Panna cotta- it was very light, so light that it had no flavor. I wish I ordered some other dessert to close out my dinner. 7. Aperol spritz- was very light. Reminded me of a mild monitor. Refreshing. But I think next time I would stick to a heavier liquor. Overall a beautiful and intimate place to have some real Italian food. Portion sizes are good. What can I say more? It's one of my favorite Italian restaurants. Every dish is so good, especially their pasta dishes. And their service is phenomenal. The carbonara is made just perfectly every time. Most restaurants served it wet, but this restaurant serves it on the drier side, making it deliciously perfect, especially for someone who's lactose intolerant. Yes, my stomach hurts after eating it and I still suffer from the lactose, but at least I suffer less because it has less cream. And the bolognese is so good. Rich tomato sauce and meat. Yummy. I also like their beet salad and steak. The osso buco is good, but it's not my favorite. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant. Parking can be a bit challenging in the Orange Circle area but there were some parking lots and parking structures available (free parking for 3 hours in the parking lots) and just 1-2 minute walk to restaurant. Service was good and food came out quickly. I ordered the salmon Monte Rosa, the salmon was super flavorful and tender and portions are large. They actually initially gave me the wrong pasta at first, but let me keep it free of charge since it was a mistake so I had two entrees for the price of one. Not sure which pasta they gave me but I think it was some cheese tortellini with spinach and sauce itself was super creamy and delicious! read more

During my visit, it was at the time of my anniversary with my girlfriend and I wanted to make reservations for September 7th around late afternoon (3pm) as we had a couple events before and it's actually a perfect time to go since it seems night time is usually crowded. FOOD Neapaliton Tube Pasta This was my dish and I'll just say it was quite delicious. I don't normally finish my plate when it comes to pasta but it was the right portion with the perfect quality. Real fine ingredients that left me wanting more (if my stomach allowed haha!) Cioppino alla Livornese My girlfriend's dish that she absolutely enjoyed! I had a sample as she also had a bit of my food but that sample alone was just enough for me to order it the next time we visit! And again, the portion was just perfect, content was just enough and left her smiling! Bread (side-dish) It may seem like bread but there was something about it that was so different and addicting. We asked for seconds and couldn't stop eating it. I actually had to put my foot down and say "hey we should leave some room for our main dishes lol" Don't leave this one hanging, may look like just bread but there's something about it! OVERALL We had a great visit. I wouldn't mind coming back again, just have to come by a little earlier or a little later during the rush hours as we like to take our time and enjoy our food. The unfortunate part is we ordered a completely plain spaghetti plate for my child who wouldn't eat it, so we assumed she was tired, but getting home I decided to taste the plain spaghetti & it was not plain. It had a bunch of salt& seasonings, so no wonder she wouldn't eat it, it wasn't plain. Maybe the cook couldn't handle serving something without anything on it, but that was my order we paid a high price for so I won't bother coming back. The other negative is we were told a reservation was coming in an hour&15 min from when we sat down, so we did feel rushed not knowing how long the food would take etc, I'd rather sit & enjoy the meal then wondering when we're going to be asked to move for a reservation although a lot of tables were open (now I know why.) read more

They also have so many pasta options, chicken, seafoods. I chose lasagna, my wife got tagliatelle w ragu, lamb. We chose red and white wines per glass. The bread is served w olive oil and valsamic vinegar. I tasted my lasagna and said, ummmm.....so good. My wife loved her tagliatelle, perfect balance w tomato sauce, tender lamb. A fellow Elite Yelper suggested this establishment to me. Naturally, I had to give it a go. First off, I will say that this is definitely what I would call a "fancy" or "foo foo" restaurant. The portion sizes are smaller than the traditional "American Super-sized" portions. So, don't expect a lot of food. But do expect the flavor to be on-point and the fine-dining experience to be worthwhile. I was more impressed with their entrees over the appetizers. The appetizers did not seem all that great. We ordered the Mozzarella in carrozza, Formaggi di misti, and the Piattino Di Olive. I got to sample each. The mozzarella in carrozza was fried mozzarella breaded and placed on a bed of sauce, with some olive oil and garnish. This one seemed really odd to me, because how do you share this appetizer? It feels more personal sized, and sharing means you are cutting small pieces away from the one piece of fried mozzarella. Not very sanitary and sort of gross if you ask me lol Formaggi di misti was just disappointing. That had to be one of the worst cheese and fruit plates I've ever seen. Why wasn't there better cheese and more fruit? Two of the cheese tasted like a slab of parmesan cheese. Weird lol And there were not enough grapes. Each of us got maybe two pieces of bread, a cracker stick, and one of the cheese slices. That was split 4 ways. It was bad. I can't imagine a bigger table trying to share this underwhelming appetizer. They need to add more fruit, change the cheeses and just re-vamp the entire appetizer. It sucks and isn't worth the price. Piattino Di Olive was good. Out of the 3 appetizers, this one we liked. They brought a cup of olives. There were black and green. Very tasty and an acceptable portion size for the price. This is a winner if you like olives. Okay, now for the entrees. The Tortelloni Pesto Sauce was seriously good! The pesto sauce had a great favor, and the tortelloni was stuffed with spinach and cheese. Just the right amount of stuffing too! Loved this entree. I just wish you got more than 6 tortelloni for the price. My mom also ordered this dish, and enjoyed it too. The Carbonara di mare was a good portion size. And the noodles were thick thick! My partner ordered that and said it was good and filling because of the thick noodles. A good amount of seafood in that dish as well. My dad ordered the Lasagna Alla Piemontese. He enjoyed it and said it was filling. It was piping hot when they brought it out and he had to wait awhile before digging into it. He said this dish was good and that there was a lot of meat inside. We also did a bottle of wine for the table. But skipped the dessert because they didn't have cannoli lol That was my fault. Came here with another couple for dinner last Thursday. I just realized I didn't get to post my review last year. This is the closest Italian restaurant to us that we like. It's always a good time and dining experience when we come here which was why we invited our friends to meet us up here. Our server Israel provided excellent service. Food was delicious. Parking can be problematic during peak dinner hours and on weekends. read more
