First time. Wow! I loved it! I can see how this place fills up so quickly when it opens! We began the meal with the meatballs, which were a great start. Soft and delicious. We couldn't make our minds up so we ordered two pies for the two of us! The first was the thin brick oven pizza, with mushrooms, and then the grandpa pie. Wow!!!! I loved the grandpa pie with the extra garlic flavor and perfect crust. Absolutely delicious! The thin crust was also excellent in a different way. There's nothing much I can add to the pizza score than the professionals and generations of customers have not said already. It's fantastic. But I can tell you that the homemade roasted pepper salad may be the best bite of food I have had in a long long time. It's worth the drive here even if you do not want anything else. The service and the unapologetic family atmosphere are even more compelling than the food. It makes me feel at home. Among friends. As if I've been coming here for 50 years. I grew up in NJ. Many of the generational Italian places have since closed. Spirito's in Elizabeth was the cornerstone place for me and my family. 4 generations enjoyed that place. Roma has that type of feel. Family owned, long standing restaurant in the community. We were greeted and sat by a very friendly lady who sat us in a nice corner booth. Large restaurant that has another room past the bar for busy weekends or large parties. Our server, Ziggy, was very nice and took our drink order right away. We ended up getting a large pie, 1/2 pepperoni and an arugula and goat cheese salad. The salad was topped with very thin sliced almonds, and a delicious balsamic. The goat cheese and arugula were both very fresh, and it was one of the best salads I've had out. Simple yet incredible. The pizza came out piping hot. Thin, crispy and crunchy crust. The pepperoni slice was flavorful but a tiny bit greasy. Maybe hard to avoid though with pepperoni. The cheese slice was good but lacked salt, but there was salt on the table to add to taste. It's actually kind of nice to not have an overly salty slice you can't do anything about. The pizza held up well, a little bend in the front but just a tiny bit. Perfect really. The crust stayed crispy til the end. I also enjoyed adding the arugula salad on top of the slice to mix it up. The roof of my mouth is still burned because I couldn't wait for it to cool off. Italian restaurant with a regular menu, but also large selection of pizzas. The pizza is Good, a little soggy, but nothing beyond what normally happens when there are 3+ toppings weighing it down. I decided to take a friend out for a surprise birthday dinner. My original restaurant choice was Pastina on Central Ave. However, knowing how much he enjoyed the Linguini in White Clam Sauce at Roma I changed our plans. I strongly recommend before going to Roma to read the reviews on Yelp and Roma's site starting with the worst. Yes the restaurant is known for great pizza, but the food was horrible. 1. Hot Food was served Cold. 2. Food Not Served as Ordered. 3. Slow Service - Not enough wait staff during peak hours. 4. Restaurant is old and tired looking. 5. Overpriced for the quality of the food. 6. Waitress needs training. 7. Manager needs to MANAGE the KITCHEN AND STAFF. The waitress told us the specials and my friend decided to order the special of Ossobuco with Risotto. We waited patiently for the food to be served. The Ossobuco was served with polenta Not risotto as ordered. We finally got the attention of the waitress. She asked if he wanted a side of risotto. She told us she knew the dish was wrong when she picked up the dish to be served WHY SERVE IT? She told us, she was told the dish was served with risotto and there was some confusion about whether it was polenta or risotto. This ISN'T MY PROBLEM!!! We waited 7 minutes for a side order of cold risotto to replace the polenta. The risotto looked like dried crumbled rice cakes on a dish. We asked the waitress for a plate to remove the meat from the polenta it was sitting in. She brought us a dessert plate, not a dinner plate and walked away. The meat was cold by the time the risotto was served. We called her over again and she told her the meat and risotto were both cold. She did ask if we wanted another side of risotto and we asked for the check. Her reply was "I didn't charge you for the side of risotto". How can you charge a patron for side of risotto when you knowingly served the wrong side with the dish we ordered. The waitress should have taken the wrong dish back to the kitchen to keep the meat hot and brought out the dish when it was hot and ready. My side order of penne was warm to cold. I asked for marinara sauce which tasted like tomato paste. It was inedible. The waitress told the manager what happened, however the manager didn't come over. My friend was offered a slice of cake for his birthday dinner. After 30 plus years of going to Roma this is without a doubt my last time going there. I'M TIRED OF PAYING FOR MEDIOCRE FOOD AND SERVICE AT ROMA!! read more

My brother and I visited ROMA RESTAURANT on Friday evening, July 18. It was our first time there, and immediately we were greeted by one of the owners Filly. We immediately felt like we were at our family's home, and she told us you are in my home now. The service, the food, the hospitality were all amazing. We asked Filly for food recommendations, and she immediately suggested what we should eat as first timers Roma. We followed her recommendations, and the food was delicious, and it immediately brought back memories of our parents and grandparents family dinners. The lasagna was delicious and huge, and the amazing pizza had the thinnest and crispiest crust. And you have to try the delicious meatballs, and the amazing toasted almond cake, dessert Even though the restaurant was so busy, Michael (Filly's husband and co-owner) came to our table and spoke with us for an extended period of time about their almost 100 year history and about our families. After years of driving by we decided to give Roma a try tonight. They have their own lot but there is plenty of street parking and a town lot as well. The restaurant looked to be well maintained and the decor was pretty modern for such an established restaurant. We had our three children with us and we were glad to find that Roma was very family friendly. The wait staff was friendly but busy, but the owner's wife came around a few times and was incredibly warm and inviting. The food was classic Italian, but done very well. The portions were large and the prices very reasonable. The lasagna and the chicken special were top notch, and the kids enjoyed their pasta too. Went in for a drink and appetizer towards the end of the evening. I received the stink eye from the owner and a couple of waitresses who were clearly done working but chose to hang around with an attitude about them indicative of what I will describe as "Mean Girls". I was VERY uncomfortable and they were pretty much snarking about me passive aggressively so I could hear. They were also watching another waitress (my waitress) and nit picking everything she did. I even heard tthem complaining about the amount of paper towels she used. Coincidentally, someone else posted on the local next door app about the same kind of service I received and let's just say dozens of other people chimed in and it wasn't good. I love to support local businesses and want to see the little guy succeed but in my heart, the terrible treatment outweighs the pretty decent food.
