The interior is very colorful, with yellow and blue walls and multicolored seats. It's not as drab as Ortega, but it's slightly toned down compared to the modern looking DLG. Carrillo specializes in Italian and Asian, with a full Mongolian grill. They serve stir fried noodles, beef, chicken, several types of pasta and sauces, pizza, tacos, etc. Unlike Ortega and DLG, Carrillo lacks an ice cream bar, and there is a soft serve yogurt machine instead. The food here is decent, and far better than what the other dining commons serve. Although it's across the lagoon, the trip to eat here is worth it.

I had seen its various locations (Isla Vista, Santa Barbara's Mesa and Goleta) and always wanted to check it out; yet leave it to my sister from out of town to introduce me to it. Twice she has ordered take-out sandwiches at lunch time for us. Their sandwich menu is nutso with 36 creations to choose from, including several that are vegetarian. Of course, the options are endless if you choose to build you own! I went with the #14 (a turkey BLT) and #2 (turkey and cheese) which are simply basic yet tasty. I have no idea what they do to their bread but is addicting. Slight crunch on the outside, yet soft to the squeeze and full of gummy flour flavor! All of the ingredients appear fresh and nothing special--which I appreciate when I want a deli sandwich. I love the fact that you can purchase your sandwich in a variety of sizes including a "mini" for if you need a snack to hold you over and not a full meal. I also think of children, those who are on a lower carb diet, who have had bariatric surgery, or are limiting portion sizes. I personally go for a "small" sandwich. However, if you want to go all out, choose the "medium" or "family" size. Even better, if you're hosting a party, order a three to ten foot long sandwich (requires a day's notice). I will be back to check out the actual place--third time's a charm they say. I've heard both their chicken salad and tuna salad are both delicious. That's next up! P/S: According to Yelpers, they do not accept the Check-In Offer for a free soda with a sandwich purchase. They should really remove this from their Yelp page... Finally, upon asking for a refund of $37.56 - $36.38 = $1.18, the manager actually yelled at me, saying that this 3% credit card charge is "commonplace". This is bullshit untrue across the country, as we all know (especially if not told in advance). Thus, long story short, this store simply aims to earn as much money from consumers as possible, even if this means overstepping the bounds of ethics.
