Stopped here recently with my family on our trip to Santa Barbara and Solvang. Any place serving ramen and sushi is a safe bet since these are my kids' favorites. I think this place is much better with its ramen than sushi items, however. I really liked my tsukemen (dipping ramen) but the sushi items my family ordered were just ok. Tsukemen broth was excellent and better tasting than ones I had in the past. The broth had little bit of sweetness which contrasted well with its rich fish broth and tonkotsu broth. It was served with thick noodles, green onions, spinach, bean sprouts, baboon shoots and soft boiled egg. Protein options are pork shoulder, pork belly, or chicken. I went with pork belly, which seemed to be a very good option. My wife and kids ordered a chirashi bowl, poke bowl, and California roll. These tasted rather standard, and the chirashi bowl just tasted very monotone. It was missing something, although I can't pinpoint what it is. Service was good and fairly efficient. Amazing! The takoyaki was the perfect texture and taste. The karrage was moist and tender with a great flavor and the dipping sauces were really flavorful. It comes with spinach, bamboo, nori and some green onions, you have to order the egg on the side for an extra ~$3, bringing the total to $22ish. Arrived here on a Saturday night, driving back from Solvang. It was a bit chilly, so it was a perfect time to get some ramen. Got seated pretty quickly, where there are various heaters to ensure comfort. Drinks were served pretty quickly. Ordered the Black Ramen (made with Black Garlic Oil) for 19.50, solid price. I enjoy the choices of meat that you can choose from, which I chose Pork Belly, and added an egg to mine. Didn't take too long for the food to come out, everything was really fresh and tasted well. Servers are inattentive to tables most of the time, they aren't terribly friendly and need service training. Prices keep going up. The ramen is just ok bordering on mediocre. The vegetarian ramen is downright atrocious. It is filled with all sorts of non traditional vegetables like broccolini, kale, and even cranberries!?? Those vegetables do not work well with ramen. We tried the black garlic ramen with chashu. It was just ok. The chashu did not have the melt in your mouth texture which is the payoff for clogged arteries. We had the chicken karage. Again, just ok, and a bit dry and stringy. We also ordered a cucumber roll. It was the sloppiest sushi roll we've ever seen. First off it was the big, kimbab size roll, but cut super skinny. So you had to bite off half of it. Which meant all the insides fall out. It was rolled so loose, that you could literally see through it. The chef didn't even bother not serving the messy end pieces, so it looked even more sloppy on the plate. The filling was salty with a touch of sweetness, but pretty basic compared to similar buns that had other flavors like a little fresh crunch of a veggie, a little tang from a pickled cucumber or daimon. None of those extras in this bun. Chicken karage were like small tenders versus nuggets. Super cute spot on State St. We came by on a Friday and we luckily were seated right away but within 10-15 min that place was packed!! Menu is good with a good variety. Decided to try the Veggie Gyoza which was a 10/10. I decided to go with the craft spicy ramen and I really liked it! I added an egg, corn and bamboo shoots to my ramen and I must say it was a solid 9/10. The ramen broth was perfect and well flavored. With the additions I made the cost of ramen was about $25-$26 which is pricy but again this is SB and it was very good. Overall great place to come in a group, with your or family or even for date night. Food was of great quality and just so good. Make sure to come check them out if your in the mood for ramen. When you eat here try not to sit on the tables where the fabric covering meets the wood covering. I didn't notice there was a gap there that could have things fall onto your food. My daughter and I ordered an Eel bowl, eel roll, tonkotsu ramen with the pork belly, two waters, and a coke. The food arrived pretty fast. The Eel bowl was yummy. The eel roll was mid, probably could have satisfied the eel craving with the bowl. The tonkotsu ramen was delicious, was debating on asking for hot sauce to add more flavor. The pork belly was tender and flavorful. We got full pretty fast, but as we were waiting to ask for a to-go box there was a gust of wind. Unfortunately, the gust of wind caused debris to land into our food and drinks. I felt the debris fall on top of my head. The debris fell onto the table too. I looked around to see if anyone else might've had debris in their food, but nobody acted different. I knew it would be safer not to take our food home to possible contamination from the debris. better to be safe than sorry than eating food with debris from who knows where.I told my daughter she should not eat or drink anymore. Maybe 5-10 minutes passed until our server came back to us. I informed her of the debris falling into our food. She told us that is what is expected when eating outdoors. I was looking through the reviews and did not read others having debris falling into their food, so not sure how "expected" it truly is. She said she could give us a discount, but it was $5 off. The $5 was not much compared to what we had left. I still had about half of my ramen left and my daughter had three-fourths of her food. She said was unable to have the kitchen remake our food. I asked if I could at least get another coke, and she did that.
