On dec 8th my wife and I had a reservation for 7:00 we arrived on time & were seated right away and greeted by our waiter from there it was all downhill he brought our apitizer 25 min later never asked about refilling my dorink,but did bring my wife another wine,we were 3/4 done with the apitizer waiting for cheese & bread to go with the apitizer but received it once we were finished.after 1 hr 15 min we saw our waiter &masked about our order ,he came back &said 2 more min , 14 min later came our food it was my birthday & we needed to be somewhere by 9pm so we had to put everything in a takeout box( the oss busco,which is fantastic )would not close tight, the waiter said it is better than putting in styrofoam though (it leaked over the carpet )we have been there a couple of times recently with no problems & very good food ,but no excuse for this mess they had a couple of large groups , but management should staff for that ,very Dissapointed!! have been there a few times for dinner and brunch on Sunday.Everything has always excellent. We had the antipasto platter last night it was enough food for 4 people for an appetizer. we always get different food when we go and everything has always excellent. Kyle was our waiter last night.We found out he was new. He was very attentive and answered our questions about the specials and how they were prepared. We will definitely go back again. Making reservations online is definitely easy and more user friendly than trying to call. Sunday brunch is definitely worth going to.Everything was hot and they also have made to order omelets.Reservations are recommended for the brunch especially if you go after 12. they filled up quickly read more

I visited the restaurant on 12-26-15 & was very disappointed with the food! The food was overcooked & was just TERRIBLE!!!!! I was embarrassed & angry because I had recommended to my grandson that we dine there on the 26th since I had been there once before & the food was excellent! This place is absolutely horrible for a decent steak or caring service. I can't believe I wasted my hard earned money dining here. I grew up close by and keep giving this place a chance but I've reached my limit. Mike Roman needs to buy better meat and train his bar staff to be professional and caring servers. Raw fish served twice! I was looking for a new place for hubby and myself to dine and found great reviews for this restaurant. Excited to visit and when arrived, everyone was so friendly. I ordered the fish special, Barramundi and my husband ordered the stuffed shrimp. When served dinners, i took a bite and the fish was delicious. The manager came over and asked how everything was, to which we replied "great". When I tried to take a bite of fish from the center of fillet, i couldn't get my fork through the fish. The middle of my fish was raw. The waitstaff took it back and apologized. After waiting maybe 10 minutes, the manager gave me a new plate and asked me to make sure it was cooked. It wasn't, again raw in the middle. Manager asked if I wanted to order something else, I replied, No, just cook the fish. When presented my entree the third time, whoever cooked the fish had chopped it up in small pieces and it was COOKED. Unfortunately, my husband was done eating by this time. So much for a nice dinner together. The waitstaff came over after I was almost done eating and asked if we wanted dessert. No Thanks : ( We were presented with the check, no discount, no offering for dessert, drink,???? When we were walking out, the manager ran over and asked that we wait a minute, she then went into kitchen and gave me a card for a free dessert the next time we visited. It wasn't a good experience at all, we didn't get to eat dinner together and no offering to make up for the raw fish was offered. We won't go back, too many places to eat. In the past, if we had a bad meal or experience, we were usually given something to make up for the mistake. I am a single young African American women. I have a 3 year old which I brought with me to this restaurant around 12:45 pm for lunch. As soon as I entered I felt as if I was being stared at from workers and gust it was very uncomfortable. I was seated in the back away from everyone that was eating as if my 3 year old and I would cause some type of commotion. Also very uncomfortable. I ordered my food did not like the salad so I returned it. The manager came over did not introduce herself just said. oh! So you don't like our salad with a rude stare. She did not have good customer service skills at all! My waitress was sweet but it was a act because she still had a job to do. In all I think that there was racial profiling from the workers. My husband and I were there yesterday afternoon around 3:30 pm. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was outstanding from start to finish. Neither one of us was impressed with our meals. My hamburger was good, but the french fries were drenched in grease and soggy (had to take a napkin to pat, but this did not make them any better). My husband enjoyed the wedding soup, however, his gnocchi was gummy and the sauce was pasty. Perhaps we were there at bad time. We may try again in the future at a better time. read more

We were invited to dinner with my brother-in-law to the Roman Bistro on Saturday, June 21, 2014 where I enjoyed the best salmon salad I have ever had. Salmon salads are one of my favorites, so when I visited Chicago the following Thursday, June 26, 2014 and lunched at one of the finest restaurants in downtown Chicago, I again ordered a salmon salad. There was absolutely no comparison. The Roman Bistro's salad was over the top, and I am thrilled my brother-in-law introduced us to the restaurant. read more

Had a reservation and they took us on time, had a table that was very crowded for 4 people, there were other tables that were open, don't know why we got the small one. Food was excellent, portion are too large, had to take part of mine and my husbands home - oh well that will be dinner another night. Sister had a lot left too. Don't get the vegetables with pasta orders - would be happier with soup or salad, would make the bill a lot cheaper too. Beer prices are average for a nice restaurant, little high for draft though. My wife and I celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary for breakfast brunch at the Roman Bistro. We reserved the day before. I we promptly seated. Their food buffet had a wide range of dishes. All delicious. They even had a crepe chef to make crepes anyway you like. The waitress checked in on us many times. She was pleasant and cheering. Before I begin this review, I want to let you know that I have given this restaurant the benefit of the doubt FIVE times, always leaving disappointed in some way. Last night was the "clincher" -- I went with my husband and several friends for dinner. I ordered the Cod Father (which was better THIS time -- last few times it had been way too spicy for a fish sandwich, in my opinion); my husband had the scallops (4 scallops and a small side of vegetables which he said were very good); our two friends ordered the lobster ravioli, also served with a small side of vegetables (they, too, thought their meals were good). Putting aside the fact that I think the meals are way over-priced for what you get (i.e. very small portions) and that everything else is ala cart, we all enjoyed our evening. Then came the bill fiasco. My husband and I picked up the bill and were paying part with a credit card and part with a gift card we had received for Christmas 2013. After 15 minutes the waiter came over to apologize for the delay but since our gift card was "old" they couldn't process it (apparently they just got a new computer program which couldn't "read" the card). He indicated that the manager was on the phone with the card company trying to figure out how to process the card. I advised him to just put the entire bill on the credit card and give us a "new" gift card. After another 10 minutes he came back and said "are you sure you want me to charge this to your credit card -- we can wait until we reach someone and figure out your gift card?" I said no, we really needed to leave and just use my credit card. After ANOTHER 5 minutes the manager came over and said that she was "working on" the gift card issue but really couldn't do anything until she reached someone at the gift card company. We AGAIN asked that the bill be charged to my credit card and that she could reimburse us for the amount of the gift card. Nope, she couldn't do that. My husband finally told her to call the owner (which she must have done because it was no more than a minute or so later that she came over with our cash refund of the gift card). During this entire fiasco (which took over 30 minutes) we were not offered a complimentary drink or desert (or even a piece of candy!) for our inconvenience. What she did finally say was that we were welcome to come back again for a complimentary meal. Having said that, we were not given anything to PROVE we could have a free meal, just her word. In sum: Food is good (but overpriced and small portions); Service: our waiter was very good (and extremely apologetic); the manager, in my opinion, seemed incompetent with respect to holding a "managerial position" and was certainly not concerned with resolving/satisfying a customer complaint. I know this review is lengthy (now you know how WE felt waiting for our check!) but I wanted to be totally honest. read more

3 friends and I visited Roman Bistro last night. It was less than a pleasant experience. We were greeted (at 4:15) with the information that they had many reservations that evening. It didn't seem to matter that at the time there were plenty of open tables. The waitstaff was rude, one of the managers was worse when 1 of my friends asked if she could still redeem her reward even though they had recently changed reward programs (not the first time it has happened). At 6:15 after paying our bills, we were finishing our drinks when we were asked how long we thought we would be staying as the hostess needed to know what to tell people in reference to wait times. We immediately got up to leave and found NO ONE waiting for a table. We were then followed to the door and told we could stay as long as we wanted. It sure didn't feel like we were welcome. The shame of it is this restaurant is in our neighborhood. Walking distance from my house and it will be a long time before I go back there, if ever. I suspect that many of the reservations were for Restaurant Week. Those people may never return! read more

Do not have an event here! I held a bridal shower here for a friend and we had a horrible experience. I planned way ahead of time, spoke with the owner several times about all of the details over the phone, and made a down payment, everything seemed planned out and like it would work out perfectly. I even had an email with the seating for the room we had reserved so that we could plan accordingly. When we arrived an hour early to set up, the room that we had reserved was being used by another shower and the owner that I had been dealing with was away. Some of the staff told us they decided to give us this room because they thought we would like it better, obviously the other shower was happening earlier and when they showed up and saw the room they were supposed to have they didn't want it, so we got stuck in this tiny room. We could barley fit everyone, all of the decorations were off because we were going by the room and seating chart we were told would be our room. They wanted the bride to sit on a bar stool in the corner to open gifts. No one at the shower had any water for 45 minutes and we had to ask several times for it. The appetizers we ordered were supposed to come out 15 mins after the shower started, instead they came out an hour later. There was no room for anything, so for dessert and gifts they had to move us all to another room. The only thing they did after all of this was give us coffee for free with the cake. When the owner returned I tried calling several times and never even got a call back. I then emailed her about the situation and she said that her staff did everything they could to accommodate our party and there is nothing else they could do for us. They shouldn't have had to accommodate anything, we should've had the correct room and plans should have been handled the correct way from the beginning. It was an awful experience and we won't be going back there, ever. I definitely do not recommend holding an event there. read more

I have friends who have gone to this restaurant and had great service, food, etc. We went Saturday evening with a party of 10 that we had reservations for and were there for 3 1/2 hours, not by choice. We were waiting on one more individual who arrived at 6:20, our waitress didn't take his drink order until 6:40 and didn't take our dinner orders until 7:30! Our food didn't come out till around 8:20 - we ate then asked for our cake that we had brought for a birthday, they thought they had lost it and took 15 minutes to find it. All of this while carrying some statue around the restaurant, not saying excuse me to any of the people at our table and almost knocking their heads off with it! The icing on the cake (no pun intended) was when they did not split our bill as we had asked at the start of the meal, then couldn't do so correctly and blamed the point of sale system. After the mangaer came over to help and we told her how disappointed we were with our service, she simply made excuses and did not appologize once for the lack fo service. It was ridiculous. To top it off, my pasta which was supposed to be in a tomato cream sause was basically swimming in a pool of butter. Over priced, awful service and will NEVER go back! read more

My wife & I just had the most wonderful experience at the Roman Bistro. We had made reservations for our anniversary & asked that the chef prepare Chateaubriand. Chef Justin more than exceeded our expectations.Our first course was lamb lollipops. He carved the perfectly rare tenderloin in to medallions at our table, piped the mashed Yukon Golds into the four corners of our plates, half topped with truffle oil & half with nutmeg, and split the plating with perfectly grilled asparagus. He then topped the medallions with each of three sauces: wild truffle sauce, Hunter mushroom sauce and Hollandaise sauce. He the took his torch and put a perfect glaze on all the items. The meal was superb! The service was great. The wine was excellent! The dessert, chocolate mousse topped with whipped cream & raspberry sauce was delicious. To finis this perfect meal we had a great cup of espresso with lemon peel. I highly recommend this restaurant to any who wants a great meal at a reasonable price. read more

We've eaten there 3 times over the past year. The food is pretty good but the service is usually slow and it's not cheap. At our previous visit we waited quite a while for a server, and then two servers alternately waited on us for the evening, and it took forever. We went back tonight but left without eating. We arrived for our 6:30 reservation on time. The hostess sat us immediately, then went to get us silverware. For the next 15 minutes, five different servers walked back and forth past our table without anyone taking our orders, while other customers who arrived after us had water brought and their orders taken. Not one of the five servers stopped to ask if anyone had taken our order. The hostess also walked past without asking if someone had helped us. We asked to see the manager on the way out. She apologized but rather than offering a free drink or appetizer, she simply offered to have our orders taken immediately. We politely declined and left, and probably won't be back. read more

I have been to the Bistro many times and there are a couple items on the menu I do like and the dinning service has always been good. My above rating has more to do with the bar wait staff. The service was downright horrific. In most establishments you expect the bartenders to be friendly and accommodating, this is not the case at the Roman Bistro. The evening that my party and I was there the bartender was downright rude and lazy. She was very unfriendly and uninterested in the needs of her customers. The majority of the night, instead of catering to the patrons at the bar, she was on her phone and would act very put out when we asked for anything. She did not care to pay attention to what anyone was drinking, who had tabs, who was paying in cash, etc., I had to repeatedly inform her I was paying in cash. And when we did correct her in such ways or ask her for something she threw attitude our way or snickered with her fellow bartender in plain sight of us behind the bar. We were treated more as an intrusion than paying customers, as if we were not paying a lot of money to drink there. I was astonished. I actually considered not tipping but decided against it, but it literally pained me. Hellacious service. read more

Not very busy got seated right away We got waited on very quickly I ordered chicken Romano and a house salad my guest ordered chicken parm and a salad we received salads and drinks very quickly. The salads where good .. After that it took an hour and ten minutes for our meals to arrive Are waitress explained they have a large party in the back that's why are meals are taking forever I said ok things happen We finally receive our meals I ordered Chicken Romano I received breaded chicken what looked like Alfredo sauce I have ordered chicken Romano 100 times never came in Alfredo sauce the menu does not say it's in Alfredo sauce Anyway sent it back got a Reuben sandwich and fries it was so salty I ate half the sandwich because I was hungry My guest got the chicken parm which was burnt over gnocchi I tasted the gnocchi it was tasteless..sauce was watered down The manager did take are meals off bill and gave us dessert.The plain cheesecake I ordered was fair at best seemed like my guest liked his dessert. In the beginning of October, my family reserved to have my baby shower here at Roman Bistro. During the time of booking, the owner and manager both assured them that there was nothing else booked on that day and that everything would be great. As time passed and we got closer to the date of the shower, I had been communicating via e-mail, with the manager. I should have seen the red flags go up when he would take 5-7 days to respond to any of my emails. Of course he kept saying how busy he was, but I still had a bad feeling. I had a shower planned for 40+ people and spent so much time and effort planning the perfect day. During our meeting with the manager (about 5 weeks prior to the shower day), we sat down and reviewed menu options, took a tour of the party room and went over cost & pricing. I even took a bunch of pictures of the party room, so that I could plan the decorations & seating arrangements, etc. The day before the shower, I e-mailed the manager to confirm everything and he sounded very weird in his response. He mentioned another baby shower was booked that day (in the mean time of mine being booked) and that seating may be a concern. Of course I became extremely nervous, but I was reassured by him that everything was OK and would be great. The day of the shower, I arrived with my team to set everything up and the OTHER SHOWER WAS ALREADY SET UP IN THE PARTY ROOM THAT WE HAD BOOKED OVER A MONTH AGO. I cannot describe how disappointed and crushed I was. At this point, I had 40+ people on their way to the restaurant... what was I supposed to do? The manager acted dumb founded as if he didn't remember our meeting together, he didn't remember the e-mails I sent, he didn't remember me taking pictures of the place, he didn't remember discussing seating arrangements and how we wanted everything set up....he didn't seem to remember anything. So he took me to a very very small section of the place (where there were still people dining from brunch) and told me he would set my party up there. I was terrified but had no choice but to take this small place (enough to hold about 20 people). We were forced to cram 40 people into this space and some of my guests even left because there was no room!!! The shower started and everyone was so uncomfortable and complaining. One of the servers was very upbeat and positive but the other one was very rude & short with all of my guests (as if we weren't already in a bad situation). The manager told me that he would definitely take care of this and give us some sort of discount at the end of the party (once we figured out the final cost). It didn't change the uncomfortable situation, but it made me feel a little relief during the party. Well, the shower ended and we went to talk to the manager.... HE WAS GONE AND LEFT FOR THE NIGHT!!! He actually snuck out before he dealt with our problem. The new manager on duty had very little information about the situation and informed us that the general manager told her to "waive the $10 cupcake fee" that we were charged (for bringing in our own cupcakes). As you can imagine, this was adding insult to injury... luckily the owner of the restaurant was there so he came out front to handle the situation. The owner seemed to "feel bad" but didn't offer any type of monetary discount. He just kept saying "what do you want me to do?" and making excuses as to why we were not given the room we booked over a month ago. We obviously wanted a discount of some sort!! He refused to give anything off of the bill and in the end, he gave us $75 in gift cards, which I will never use!! This was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant and the worst business I've ever seen conducted. Not only is the management completely unorganized, unreliable and NOT focused on customer service, but the actual owner of this establishment was very nonchalant and seemed to not have any concern for the matter. I know that they were either extremely unorganized or being greedy (which is probably the case) and booked two showers in one day hoping to make an extra several hundred dollars. I hope that extra bit of money was worth all of the bad reviews and bad word of mouth that every one of my 40 guests are going to spread. Perhaps if, in the end, we were given a generous discount along with gift cards, things would be different. But these people obviously only care about the short term gain instead of the long term loss and terrible word of mouth. DO NOT BOOK AN EVENT HERE... Do not waste your money!! read more

I was very upset by the front desk lady's treatment of us on Mother's day. I dropped my mom off at the door before going to park the car. In the meantime, they tried to seat my 81 year old mom at one of those high, round bar tables. She cannot physically sit there. So I come in after parking and the lady says in an extremely snooty and condescending manner: "the table was not to her liking, so we are trying to find another one." Then they take us to the worst possible table- a makeshift one in a hallway by the emergency exit. My mom asks why we can't sit at one of the open tables in the dining room. The lady makes some excuses and acts incredibly inconvenienced, before finally relenting and giving us one of the open tables in the dining room. I had called weeks in advance to make a reservation. Terrible treatment of my elderly mom on mother's day. To top it off, when the bill came it was for 3 brunches, even though there were only two of us. That could've been an honest mistake- I don't know. The waitstaff were OK enough- it was really the front desk lady who left a bad taste in my mouth, and now we'll be avoiding this place. read more

SUNDAY BRUNCH. My wife and I stopped here for the first time today for their Sunday Brunch (9am-2pm). We got in around 11am and decided to sit at the bar, which is typically our preference. The first thing we noticed was the amazing selection of draft beer, and after being greeted by the bartender, we discovered that on Sundays all drafts under 8% abv were just $3! I immediately ordered the Green Flash West Coast IPA and my wife decided on a Bell's Oberon and a coffee. After being given menus to peruse the draft/drink list, we were told that the brunch buffet ($13) was the only food available. That settled that. There were several seating areas, including a covered patio, and all were half-full, except for the bar where we found ourselves alone with the 13 (!?!) HD TVs. The buffet was set up just past the hostess stand, parallel to one end of the bar making a narrow, crowded channel that I felt hurried through as the hungry throngs bustled behind me. We found fairly ordinary brunch buffet selections: scrambled eggs, bacon, breakfast sausage, french toast, etc., and less ordinary: frittata (scrambled eggs full of melty cheese, spinach and mushrooms), Italian sausage in red sauce with onions, blintzes, funnel cake "strips", pierogies, and more! There were several salads (greens, pasta) assorted pastries including bagels and a plate with cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers and red onion at the ready. There was an omelette station with an attentive and quick chef as well as several delicious desserts and very unimpressive plain and pepperoni pizzas. After taking our first plates back to our seats, we began to notice company at the bar. Before we knew it, the place was packed! There must have been a mass that let out nearby because by 11:45 you couldn't move in the place! The bartender was running ragged trying to fill drink orders for the other servers as well as greeting new patrons around the bar. Still, he remained attentive to us, checking on us regularly and always popping up just as our drinks were being emptied. Overall, the place was hectic, but the buffet was routinely restocked (albeit with largely ordinary and under-seasoned options) and our service was outstanding. I would definitely try it again after 2pm on a Sunday (open 9am-9pm according to their website, but not updated here on Yelp!) to try the actual menu options and for more excellent $3 drafts! read more

We had only been to Roman Bistro for brunch before which was very good. My husband & I were meeting a long-time friend who we only see once a year - at best and were looking forward to catching up with her. The dinner menu was very diverse. Our first course was very good (tomato bisque, house salad and wedding soup). Unfortunately our main course was served before we finished our first. Since my salad was so good I wanted to finish it before I started my pasta. I think I was on the third bite of my meal and the waitress was already asking if I wanted a box. My husband & I ate most of our meal with the boxes already on the table. My friend had gotten the crab cake appetizer, which she said was very good. My husband & I would rate our steak & pasta meals as okay. We continued to feel rushed (even though there were empty tables, the bar was not crowded and there were not people waiting at the door). We ordered coffee (which we really didn't want) just so we could sit and talk. Overall, although the meal started off well I don't think we'll back for dinner. It's one thing when you're eating downtown and attending a performance at the theatre for your meal to be rushed, it's another when you're in Forest Hills and just want a nice meal out. There are plenty of other options which are also locally owned closer to home. read more

Recently had lunch at the Roman Bistro with my wife. We had been here several times in the past and were always satisfied. In fact we had booked bridal showers and other events in their party rooms. No more. First I ordered the onion soup. Not only did it come out almost cold, but when i started to eat it there was something in the soup that felt like small sticks. I asked the waitress to come over and I gave her a sample of the unidentified hard pieces to show the chef. She came back a few minutes later to report that the chef said they were just part of the onions. The rest of the lunch was no better. The food came out cold and the service was marginal at best. The overall attitude seemed to be if you don't like it too bad. We will never go back. It seems what was once a good place is going downhill. Our money spends anywhere. From now on we will spend it someplace who cares about their customers. read more
