Had dinner here this past week and really enjoyed it. The name threw me at first and the inside is a little strange, but they have some great Italian food. I started off with French onion soup, which was delicious. The soup had a great flavor and paired well with their homemade bread. For my meal I went with the medley number 2, which was a stuffed shell, eggplant parm, and ziti. The best part was the stuffed shells. I came here with my mom and her boyfriend. Our server was so kind and amazing!!! We ordered the fish sandwich and it was amazing, the eggplant parm was amazing, HOWEVER! My mom's boyfriend had the chicken Romano but it will just chicken and eggs. There was straight up an omelette on top of the chicken, chicken and eggs. Unsure of what happened here and I can only blame myself. First off, our server was TOP NOTCH. Knew everything, was quick, agreeable, helpful etc. However, this is exactly what some other reviews are saying; good enough cheaper Italian food. I like veal a lot and that is what I got and I would say it was good enough. I did appreciate the noodles and sauce for sure - very good. The breaded crust on the veal was also tasty. Stopped here on a Saturday night on our weekender, in search of Italian. The outside looked cool - brick corner with a nice clean sign. However, walking in - the bar area, it reminded me of a bar rescue location. We scampered to the dining room, which wasn't too big and were sat. There were several areas inside that there was NO ONE dining in. Never a good sign if you're dead on a Saturday night. Anyway. The waitress was a younger woman who was really attentive and very friendly. She was handling three tables (only three occupied) and doing it with a smile. We passed on appetizers mainly bc there wasn't much to go with there - and ordered entrees - me a chicken parm (to those who read my stuff: yes shocking development). It came with a small salad, which was standard. The chicken parm was ok. The penne pasta sidecar was good - al dente and the sauce was a nice tangy gravy. The chicken was ok. They were trying atleast but it was very bland, and the fry didn't stay on the chicken. Flaked off very easy. Don't know. We decided to share a cannoli, which I took one bite of and the mascarpone obviously had curdled or spoiled but I spat it out. And for me to spit out a dessert - that's not good. At all. Just ok. I saw a video from a food influencer about this place so I wanted to give it a shot. When we arrived we sat ourselves and there were only 2 other tables sat...being a Wednesday evening I just assumed that's why it wasn't busy. The waitress was amazing and had a great personality...which really made up for how bland the food was. She offered us bread which was just slices of white bread. Our meals came with either a soup or salad so I got the wedding soup which was actually probably the best part of the meal. For my entree I got the chicken Alfredo with penne noodles. The pasta was drenched in Alfredo and the sauce had a very bland taste, the noodles were pretty hard and the chicken came as little chunks. Ended the meal with dessert. The lemon berry cake was pretty good and the cannoli tasted absolutely terrible...I believe it shouldn't be on the menu. The best part of the entire dinner was the server! read more

We held our 60th high school reunion dinner at the Pleasure Bar last night. We ordered a four-course meal off the Family Menu. For a price of $25 per person, you couldn't beat the taste of the food and the excellent service.The chicken parma had a tender breading with just a right amount of sauce under the cheese. Usually this dish comes swimming in overwhelming amounts of sauce, which is a mistake in my kitchen. I made all the arrangements by phone since I live in California. Betty, the owner, accommodated our every need. The waitress even helped people figure out how to use the parking machine in the lot out back and how to call Ubers. Hey, I mentioned it was our 60th reunion, right? We were all born before technology was invented. I recommend this place for small gatherings and family parties. I was in the mood for some inexpensive Italian food on a Sunday afternoon. I found the Pleasure Bar on Google and gave them a try. I ordered the Baked Ziti, (Cut ziti noodles layered with hot sausage, pepperoni, Mozzarella, Romano, and Provolone cheese baked, and topped with tomato sauce). The friend who made our reservation had heard about this place from someone else. I had never tried it, but I am glad that we did! While the bar area is very loud, our party was seated together in a quiet side dining room. Our waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable. And the kitchen can be very quick. FYI, they can't split checks for larger groups. Now for the food. The Pleasure Bar house salad puts other restaurants' house salads to shame: mixed greens, pickled red pepper, pine nuts, mozzarella cheese, and not one but two kinds of olives. Classy. The kalamari came out hot, with a light breading and chewy center. All of the various pasta dishes we ordered were delicious, and generous servings. It's a good price if you count the leftovers. We stopped in here for lunch one day. I believe this place is family owned and while it is a no frills restaurant, it is super cute and "homey." We started with the Italian pizza bread. It contained all of my favorite things: bread, cheese, and sauce, so of course I really liked it! For my lunch, I ordered a chicken ceasar salad and my fiancé ordered a fish sandwich. Came here for a small dinner while visiting Little Italy Days! We sat in the back room, which is very adorable dining area that reminds me of a grandma's dining room- that's not a bad thing! Maybe you wouldn't come here with a hot date, but I would absolutely come back with my family for some delicious (non-authentic, but still delicious) Italian food! We ate a light meal, as we were trying a bunch of different things from vendors at the festival. I went with a side salad, the wedding soup, and we split an order of fried zucchini. The side salad was delicious and a generous portion and the wedding soup was quite good. The fried zucchini was some of the best I've ever had! I would come back for the fried zucchini alone. Don't get confused. This place is NOT fancy. NOT trendy. This is NOT authentic Italian. However, it is damn good Pittsburgh Italian food. Sometimes you just crave the American version... The ambience is , old school, has not been updated in 30 years. Walk through a bar to get seated. But it's part of the charm! They have solid bread to start, very tasty. I always get a salad because the ranch is really good. The bread dipped in the ranch is even better. I generally get the chicken parm with fettuccine Alfredo instead of spaghetti. It had been 8 years or so since I last found myself in the curiously named (Mariani's) Pleasure Bar of Bloomfield, and that last dining experience was rather flat. With nothing to make for dinner, I brought Kay here one Friday afternoon for a post-workday meal and to get on with some unfinished business. The peevish reviews the restaurant has received recently would not keep me at bay. I'll own up to having dealt with slow service, which was inexcusable considering that the dining room was no more than half-occupied. That notwithstanding, the above average food and familial ambience made up the deficit. Exhibit #1: The Italian Fried Greens. Amazingly, this was my first encounter with the traditional side dish. Embellished with chunky medallions of juicy sweet sausage, the wilted cabbage, chard, onions and heaven knows what else, made this a steamy salad that Kay and I shared ravenously. Adding some noodles would have turned it into haluski. Exhibit #2: A house salad. Dressed with a properly zesty house vinaigrette, I found it cleared my palate well for what was to arrive next. Exhibit #3: Gnocchi. Arriving at the right balance betwixt doughy and delicate, the alabaster, oval bombs of love, labor, and starch were coated with a fiendishly blood-rich tomato sauce that came close to conjuring mole, parsley also being added for effect. Customization entailed the inclusion of a mammoth of a meatball made from the purest of ground chuck with minimal filler. Exhibit #4: Spumoni. Served sundae-style with whipped cream, it made for a delectably creamy, pistachio-hued, and generously scooped ending to what was fine Italian meal. Kay and I basically ignored the so-so complimentary bread and the somewhat dated decor, relishing our dishes and the entertaining clientele aIike (the family sitting across from us would be good candidates for a reality television program) without a care. I suggest that my readers do the same and appreciate this venerable neighborhood eatery for what it is and for as long as it lasts. P.S. The restaurant was clean during our visit, and we saw not one roach. read more

I'm not even sure if the lady I saw behind/by the bar even worked there, but she definitely entertained me. The atmosphere is light and fun inside making it feel like you are possibly at somebody's house party rather than at a bar. I only came to partake in libations, so I cannot speak to the food here. This place seems to be a favorite haunt for the locals that live nearby as everyone seemed to know everyone. It was like one big family get together. There were 5 people sitting at the bar and not one of them were waited on in this time, nor were any of the tables we could see in the dining room. Does ANYONE work here? This is a pretty solid family run Italian place. It isn't fancy or trendy, and the ambiance is very out of date. But I love the old school local vibe. They seem to get a lot of locals coming here. The menu is extensive with a wide variety of pasta and other italian dishes. I had a tortellini special which was delicious and portions were generous. I wouldn't call it amazing but it was a solid good dish. Our server was fantastic, and prices were quite reasonable. Very disappointed with our meal. We took my mother here for Mother's Day and it cost $72 for the three of us. My mom and I had the Seafood Alfredo and my husband had the Linguine Lucy (the worst meal he's ever had). All three of our meals were swimming in sauce and hardly edible. I'm surprised we didn't die of clogged arteries during our meal. The shrimp were the smallest I've ever seen and the scallops practically invisible. We really weren't sure if this is their usual food or if the cook just didn't care that night but it doesn't matter. Definitely an unpleasurable experience. We won't be back.. read more

My family has been going here for years. I remember when I was a child, going here. It was packed!! It's not as busy as it once was, but the food is still terrific. When you want old fashioned Italian-Pleasure Bar is a great choice. We've gotten a variety of items on the menu. The only thing I didn't like was the beans-n-greens. The Pleasure Bar has been in Pittsburgh forever. My dad wanted to come here one day because he remembered coming here years ago, and we have returned a few times since. I could not believe the prices on the menu the first trip. This place is CHEAP. We started out with the bruschetta, which was ok. Not my favorite, but I think it was four huge slices of bread and covered in garlic and tomatoes. It was a bit greasy for my tastes but still yummy. Then, we split the stuffed shells ($8.50) and gnocchi ($9). Both were fantastic, I'm guessing homemade. Other trips we have tried manicotti, deep-fried zucchini, and all sorts of other things. The portions are a good size, and you might even have a very small portion of leftovers. The service is slow considering we are often the only people on a Saturday at lunch time, but who cares? We are there to talk and hang out. This place is great, and I'll come back soon. read more

My daughter, sisrer, nephew, and I were in the mood for some Italian food so we decided to give the pleasure bar a try. We arrived at 7:20pm and were told there would be a 20 to 30- minute wait; we finally got a table after almost an hour. Over the course of the next 90 minutes we received some bread, some cabbage water with a few little meatballs, one odd- smelling cloudy iced tea, and numerous claims that the food would be "right out". After a two-and a half hour bout of frustration we had enough and went home hungry. I will never go here again. The little bit of food that we had was awful, and we never got or entrees.
