    Lemon Cake

In the area to attend a convention and we wanted to eat somewhere that was local not a chain restaurant. We found this hidden gem online and the menu sounded delicious! We arrived after 8pm and had to wait for the hostess to come back to her station. (The waitstaff had to go hunt her down once they saw we were just standing there.) No reservation, but they had plenty of tables available (shocking to us since it's a Friday night.) Our waitress, Jennifer, was so very friendly and professional. She kept my husband's drink filled throughout our stay. They have sparkling spring water available, so I ordered that. My Crab & Shrimp on gluten-free spaghetti with white wine sauce was so delicious I was literally sad when it was all gone. My husband loved his chicken parmigiana and topped his meal off with a slice of lemon cake for dessert. Light and delicious. Excellent choices on the menu! So happy to see a gluten free pasta option. A great place for a group dinner or a romantic dinner date. We definitely recommend Wooden Nickel!

We were blown away and pleasantly surprised of this wonderful fine dining establishment. Wondering why we never stopped here sooner. We are so happy with our experience. Fish dishes were presented with artistic talent and care. Food tasted equally amazing. Ambiance was very romantic and intimate as we were seated directly in front of the fireplace for our visit. Hostess and wait staff friendly, attentive and professional. There was a small volume of free parking available in the rear of the building and some additional a few steps away. We will definitely come back.

Don't really recommend for takeout. I recently ordered the goat cheese app, club sandwich, and chicken salad sandwich for my friend and I, to-go, during lunch. We shared everything. Club sandwich was by far the best item. I ordered fries with it that I didn't get. The goat cheese app was horrible. The toast points were rock hard and stale. The goat cheese was disgusting, it tasted old, and it ended up getting thrown away. I waited in the bar area for 15 minutes for my order, after the time it was supposed to be ready. My food was sitting in the kitchen (could see it from the windows in the kitchen doors), and the bartender was no where to be found. The restaurant was empty in the middle of the day. I'm also pretty sure that there was an automatic gratuity added to the takeout order. I wanted to like this place because my best friend lives just down the road, and there aren't many other more upscale restaurants nearby, other than coast and main. I would like to dine in sometime because it has a nice, clean banquet area and outside.

I enjoyed lunch here several years but never cared to come back as it's hidden in Monroeville and to be honest, I tend to forget about it. My friend heard they remodeled and revamped their menu so we decided to bring the hubbies and have a nice dinner night out . The atmosphere is wonderful , very elegant and was well decorated . The menu has fantastic food selections and we were all very well pleased with our food decisions, despite very minor issues. The ahi appetizer presentation was very odd as it was served with creamy coleslaw. Didn't mix well with the sliced tuna (to be honest it was actually very off putting), but again not a big deal since the tuna was delicious anyhow. We also ordered the salmon Oscar which didn't have a ton of taste to it . The stuffed shrimp and filet were outstanding ! Our server was nice and attentive for the most part. She didn't seem to smile much or want to engage in any kind of conversation , but hey you never know when someone's having a bad day! Also to note , the hostess / coat check lady was very sweet and welcoming !

Nice, clean and quite place with nice and very polite staff. Not a noisy crowded place, however a low volume music was playing. We started with warm sliced bread and butter, continued with salad. Food was delicious, healthy and very well cooked. Medium well cooked ribeye steak was cooked very good with no additional unnecessary sauce. Salmon was cooked as requested.

Delight in a subpar upscale dining experience at its most elegant. Let their wait staff impress you by offering their best in impertinent service that will keep you waiting an eternity anticipating they'll take your order before dying of starvation. All Entrees will meet your high standards of being paltry from dried angel hair pasta or Oscar Salmon expected from an exquisite sub-par meal that you will never want to come back for more. When I attended a seminar presentating information covering stem cell research & the attractive allure offering free dinner offered at a fancy banquet hall enticed my choice to dine here. After reviewing the menu offerings that night for the entrees after the seminar all looked appetizing & anticipated eating a delectable dish featuring pasta primavera cooked in olive oil. Every dining room here is quaint & simple adorned with fancy decor each offering reasonable space accommodating parties of different sizes for any event meeting or occasion. There Hospitality is nothing impressive as wait staff was unattentitve to patrons for 20 minutes offering drink services before or during the presentation failing to also serve water which I requested before starting the video presentations. When I motioned to a server they ignored me along with a couple of other guests in attendance wanting drink service. Concerning my expectations of service set high & instead recieved standards equivalent to a Mcdonalds dining experience minus staff cell phone use. Giving the benefit of the doubt a server looked as she was having an off night while the other one had the enthusiasm of a Mcdonald's cashier who had no desire being there. Despite they were solely assigned to serve a small group of 40 people in attendance I saw no excuse for sub-par service as it was a slow weeknight with few patrons sitting at the bar & main dining areas. The overall dining experience wasn't complete without recieving dry pasta primavera lacking flavor & substance which was a shame failing to compliment its tender noodles. What caught my attention was plating & would rank it 7.5. My hopes are they will improve & offer a superb dish worthy of amazement. Wooden Nickel has potential for improvement returning to former glory it presented itself in the past. When improvements happen in food & service there will be a better chance I will recommend friends to book their wedding seminar or other event. In all fairness my rating is 3.5 as this beautiful banquet hall has a wonderful interior (mentioned earlier) & exterior. Be sure to like on FB & tell a friend. https://www.facebook.com/TheWoodenNickelRestaurant/

    Pasta with meatballs .

Walked into the restaurant and was greeted with " I don't think we have any tables". Hostess walked away and didn't say anything. After waiting 15 minutes to be seated because "we're out of tables" (the dining area has 7 tables open), our hostess gratuitously served us water in dirty glasses. The young waiter (poor kid was alone) took about 10-15 minutes to take our order and offer more water. We had our order taken at 242pm and at 338pm got our food. No bread with pasta? Food presented well, but lacked flavor. There were two Obnoxious patrons sitting adjacent to our table who were 3-4 Martinis in and talking at the top of their voices about Politics, Same Sex Marriage, and IVF, and everything else. This dining experience was Horrible.

Instead, this was hands down the fastest large-group dinner I've ever had. Orders moved quickly, food came out hot, and nothing felt chaotic. For a group this size, that level of execution is genuinely impressive. Let's be clear: this is not Texas-style, 18-hour, smoke-ring BBQ--and it's not trying to be. What they do well is consistency and customization. You get six different sauces, and they actually ask whether you want your meat lean and dry or juicy. I went juicy, and my portions were flavorful, tender, and satisfying. I ordered the beef brisket and pulled pork, and also tried the pulled pork sandwich. Solid across the board. They were out of the cream corn (bummer), the mac and cheese was fine and comforting, and the cornbread was excellent--classic, slightly sweet, and the clear standout. This is BBQ built for scale: fast, reliable, and crowd-friendly. If you're feeding a large group and want everyone served quickly, with options and no drama, Mission BBQ absolutely delivers--even if it's not chasing smoke-ring perfection.

Mac and cheese and bacon green beans were my favorites but other sides include baked beans, French fries, collard greens, cold slaw and a couple seasonal items. Got a Pinot noir wine and waters Starter=soup of the day: tomato w/ chickpea and chorizo- bold tomato flavor and lots of arugula in it. Not so much chorio but flavor was very good, not overly salty. 10/10 After the soup we put our nit-picking goggles on as we knew this was a pretty sophisticated meal. Daily special- pan seared mahi mahi with asparagus fennel kohlabi and arugula salad citrus buerre Blanc. Light citrus flavor is found thru the mahi mahi, its sauce and the salad. Very congruent. Asparagus was a neutral addition. Not flowing with or against the mahi. Fish was cooked well. Just lots of raw red onion on the salad was a little overpowering. 7/10 Red wine braised short rib- didn't ask how well done, so seems chefs choice. We have a preference towards med rare. This was cooked well done making it a tad tough-stringy. Mashed potatoes with some larger pieces of potato, but very neutral plain flavor, great with the beef sauce. Carrots cooked well, just neutral, natural flavor. Overall a very classic flavor combo that works.7/10. Would stop by again to try more dishes. Ps- when paying we noticed final bill to sign was more than first bill at table. When we asked why the difference we were told it's the credit card fee of $3. This was really the first time I've seen this at a restaurant, yet alone at a decent place like one. Would have been best for them to tell us this upfront.

It was no longer like Mrs. Paul's frozen fish, two very nice meaty breaded filet served with French fries that were hot and crispy cooked just right. Great snap when you crunched them. The pizza slices have big bubbling crusts with pepperoni so rustic cut that you will wonder if they accidentally gave you the whole piece... over and over again. Don't sleep on their meatball pizza. Because you will have basically full size meatballs for every slice... and they are delightful. We had family in and bought a large order - and we opted to try their sandwiches. The Chuck Roast sandwich and Turkey Rachel both sounded delicious... and Gateway Grill does have fresh smoked meats too! Takeout is a trip. In a full restaurant, you have to kinda stand in the way at the front counter and flag down someone to grab your order. But they definitely do a lot of to-go pizzas so you'll be able to handle it. Unfortunately, with their current to-go containers, the sandwiches ended up being sopping wet with condensation... the bottom toasted bread on both was basically dripping instead of crunchy. The fries had lost all texture too- air fryer to the rescue. I'd still recommend going - just stick to only pizza when ordering takeout until they find a way to ensure quality of other options.
