I'd say a 3.5, but that's not an option. We bought some stuff in the store and also used them for flowers for a wedding. The odd thing is that in person they are very nice and helpful, but their phone etiquette is vastly different.Any time you call with a question/request, it's as if you are bothering them. They are very short with answer and generally condescending when you ask things (e.g. I was told "as it clearly says..."). Obviously it's not clear or I wouldn't call. On another call I was only given "uh huh, yep", but it was clear they weren't listening. read more

Romance Etc isn't going out of business and they have no plans of going out of business. They are actually in the middle of their Annual Jewelry Sale, which is one of the best times of the year to shop - buy early Christmas, birthday, or just because presents. Hello: I just had my beautiful wedding Sept. 14 at the Long Beach First Congregational Church. Romance Etc. did all of the church decorations and flowers. The church looked gorgeous. My bridal bouquet was solid red roses and my 2 bridesmaids had white rose bouquets. . They looked wonderful in our photographs. In working with the owner Deborah, she was very pleasant to work with and knew exactly what I was looking for. Her prices were reasonable. My wife and I got married on August 2nd and had a great experience working with Debra. My sister had used her five years ago and she did a great job so we chose to use her again. I found this store on a visit to California and purchased a wooden watch for my husband. A year later, I had a problem with the watch and could not find the receipt for a warranty return. I called them and they could not have been more helpful. They contacted the watch company on my behalf and made sure I could get it fixed. Great customer service! I'm very disheartened by the inconsistent customer service in this store. By inconsistent I mean others were helped, I was ignored two out of two times. It is the kind of place I would love to patronize and they bring a very welcome florist svc back to the Village but their willingness to offer me help has tainted my impression of them. I visited the store the week it opened. That day I was the only person in the store. I walked around curiously examining everything. Not once did either of the two people working there say hello or offer help. I walked out the front door without having exchanged a word with anyone after about ten minutes. I found it strange and off putting, especially because it was grand opening week, but put it aside. I went back again on Valentine's Day eve. The store has 3 other patrons. This time I noticed 3-5 employees. Other customers were getting service and help with their merchandise or flowers. Once again, despite being seen by and passed by two different employees and having been in the shop for at least 10 minutes I still could not attract even one "may I help you?" or a hello. Two different employees even had to walk around me when I was examining some merchandise in a tight corner of the shop. Both times I was ignored I live in the Village but unfortunately I don't intend to support this business anymore. read more

One of the employees ruins this place for me! A shorter 20-25 year old brown haired girl with a nose peircing has to be one of the rudest employees I have ever seen #1 I'm not a thief I don't need to be followed around your entire shop. Don't touch anything blah blah blah, I really thought the store was pretty damn cool but any employee like that who loses $$$ for the store is disastrous to a Buisseness like this! I would have spent easily $1,000 on my girlfriend there but after seeing her customer service skills which are lacking greatly I left with my girlfriend and my money both shocked! Last Sunday I wandered in and thought ;what a cute store full of things no one needs" . I purchased two hard back books for a friend who does long distance biking. When I got home, I realized my friend probably didn't need two books on the same topic. I promptly went to return one of the books to find out they do not do refunds, only exchanges or store credit. The girl helping me was rude. She was singing along with the holiday music the whole time she SLOWLY did my return. I guess she couldn't be interrupted long enough to provide good customer service. I now have a $38 credit for a store I have only been in once and don't care to buy anything from. After I purchase something (not even sure what at this point), I will never go back due to 1. exchange policy. 2. rude customer service! read more

I came here to buy a Birch Tree decor with my girlfriend since It was on sale. The product has mini-lights attached onto the tip of its branches that is powered by a electrical cord. The item was packaged and it was placed by its display outside the store. We took the product into the store and told the salesperson we were interested but wanted to check if the lights in the product were functional since the packaging looked like it was opened or previously used. Without a response, she made a face of disgust and waited in silence to comprehend the question. Then the manager came out and told me that the products have all been tested and "THERE SHOULD BE NO PROBLEM." This is not the type of customer service I expect from a store like Romance Etc. Unfortunately, I was shut down from exercising my consumer's rights. Maybe they had a bad day or we walked in on a bad time, but that was poor customer service and straight up disrespectful. I won't be coming back to this store again. For anyone who's going to this store any time soon, I hope you have a better experience than I did. read more

I am so upset I can not believe what just happened while I was shopping here. Me and my wife daughter an nephew were out for a stroll on 2nd Street ate lunch gor dessert and decided to walk around because it's a beautiful day. I walk into this store because I have been before and I like all of the different items in here. I noticed one employee popping up everywhere we went in the store. Fine it's a coincidence no biggie. I was wrong everywhere I turned this employee kept staring and making it obvious she was following us. I had the last straw when she followed us upstairs where they have some clothing items. I promptly left! How rude to follow your customers around because they may look slightly different then your regular customers! The employee in question was of average height, blonde wavy curly hair, and dressed in jeans and a tshirt. Never again will I come here. I have never been so upset in my life. Horrible customer service. I hope you're happy chasing out a family with 2 kids. read more

I hated my experience in this store. The candles smell like vomit and the owner, along with everyone else that works there is straight up RUDE!!! One of the people working behind the counters asked if my mother and I were paying together, so obviously it sounded like she was ready for us to pay.. then she tells us to wait a minute and she vanishes while we stand there for 10 minutes all the while finding out we were supposed to wait in the OTHER line the whole time and made us feel like complete idiots. All we bought were 2 truffles and then when we went to eat them, they were disgusting and tasted like they had been sitting in the case for a year. Won't be going back there again. read more

We went over SEVERAL versions of our table centerpieces, and they just adjusted to our changes and odd requests each time. We used Romance for our Wedding and Reception. Absolutely Beautiful. We had our reception at Lawry's in Beverly Hills. Our Lawry's Coordinator said she doesn't remember seeing such incredibly beautiful arrangements or how the flowers were placed. Back in May, I was visiting Long Beach & happened to stop into Romance etc. When leaving, I didn't realize I dropped my credit card. The staff found it & looked up & down the street for me even checking in other local shops. Unfortunately, I was already on my way & didn't realize I was without my card until I was at the airport. They were so wonderful & helpful when I called they even hurriedly ran next door to the post office to overnight my card to me at my next destination! As a result, I was without it for a very short time & my trip continued without a real hitch! This on top of the fact I had just bought the best gifts at very fair prices has inspired me to write my very first Yelp review ever -- I'm truly impressed with such kindness... they wouldn't even accept a reward. So I've only submitted 2 other reviews in my life, I felt compelled to leave this review as soon as I left this wonderful boutique. First off a back story, I just finished working out at the Y and felt it was a good time to bring home some flowers to my beautiful wife and two beautiful girls. As I sat in my vehicle, I googled florists in the area and Romance and some others big box places popped up, I'm a fan of small businesses and have no problem paying more for the customer service that goes along with a small business. So Romance Etc it was and I set off. I was very surprised as I walked through the door and observed so many different knick knacks and such a beautiful array of boutique toiletries, candles, vases, and yes beautiful flowers. I can see now why this is a one stop shoppe for brides to be! It has so many items that would make a woman's life easy during a very stressful time. So there I was this sweaty 40's something guy standing in this beautiful indoor garden, just looking for some flowers when I was approached by Donna. Donna was very nice and very informative. She constructed 3 beautiful arrangements that my wife and girls loved. Also, I bought some deliciously fragrant candles at a great price. After some great conversation and purchasing the goods I felt very compelled to leave a great review. This is a true GEM, if I were getting married again, maybe a renewing of vows, I would definitely hire Donna and Romance etc. to provide the floral arrangements and any other service they provide. I wanted to visit the shop since their relocating to Village Rd but hadn't been until yesterday. I ran in for a few minutes after the post office. They have some beautiful things and the shop is charming; they know how to do a display I'll give them that. The shop isn't as large as their 2nd Street location but every bit as pretty; the store is setup very similar. But from the moment i walked in until I walked out,not one greeting from the two women working there. I remember how rude they always were in their Shore store and sadly see things haven't changed here at their new store. I like their things and would be willing to pay the prices (high) if they were even remotely friendly. Bummer that's what kept me from shopping in their 2nd Street store when I lived in the Shore. I've only purchased from their store once even though i loved their stuff. I live in the neighborhood down the street but probably won't be shopping here. read more

First of all, let me say that I am an avid shopper of home goods. Furnishing my home in Newport Coast, CA, I have shopped and many many high end home stores. I recently moved to the charming area of Belmont Shore, CA and was super excited to find such a cute and charming store. I was shopping at Romance Etc for several weeks furnishing my new place and the store clerks were more than nice and very knowledgeable and helpful. I came in to purchase one last item last week and was VERY DISSSAPOINTED. I purchased glass balls that hang from the ceiling. The week before I had purchased over 5 of these balls which were $20 a peice and was given fishing string to hang them with. I needed just one more and went to the store to purchase it. The salesperson was super grumpy and not at all polite and told me that she cannot supply the fishing string as it was too expensive and costly for her. I informed her that I purchased a home in the area and spent hundreds of dollars the last few weeks in her store and that I'm sure she could spare 5 cents for the fishing string for me. She told me to walk down the street and buy it for $5. To my dismay, she was the owner. It was the worst customer service I have ever recieved. I run my business with the best customer service and love to shop at local businesses that do the same. I WILL NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN. To save 5 cents after the amount of money I will spend or have spent Romance Etc, the owner lost my business. I'm appalled at how anyone operates their business in this manner. read more

My grandma passed away 3 days ago so you could imagine the range of emotions our family was going through. We contacted Romance Etc to ask them to do all the floral arrangements. We talked to the person that ran the boutique but she couldn't provide us with any information or pricing so she said she would have the floral person call us back. By the next day we didn't receive a call so we called back as we needed to make arrangements for the funeral which was in 2 weeks. The same lady that we talked to the previous day answered and offered her confluences and said the flower lady wasn't in but would call us as soon as she got back. 4 hours later, still no call. We called back and finally the flower lady gets on the phone. With an attitude she tells us "I am super busy and trying to get some bridal shower flowers out. When I had 5 seconds I was going to call you back." We asked if we could come by to speak with the lady and she rudely said "no I don't have time for you." We were shocked at the customer service we received. After just losing someone soo close to me, the last thing I wanted was dealing with this rude lady. They will never get my business ever again! read more

Romance Etc was our wedding florist. They went above and beyond what we envisioned! Our planner brought us to Deb ONE MONTH before our wedding after our first florist disappointed us. Our planner and Deb had discussed before our meeting exactly what our ideas were for our color scheme and our centerpieces (submerged calla lilies). When we first showed up at their store, Deb had already arranged a sample centerpiece that completely blew us away! And just like that, we knew we had found our florist! The sample centerpiece had these specific acrylic vase fillers that were so unique and we just had to have. They were samples from many years ago and at that time we weren't sure if they were available anymore, but Deb specifically went out of her way to help us find enough for our wedding. We wanted beautiful, bountiful and colorful flowers for our bouquet and Deb knew exactly what we wanted after talking for only a few minutes. While we were there she gathered up the flowers that fit our description and basically explained exactly what she would do. We left there confident knowing that they got it. Even though we knew they would do a good job, we were not prepared for the wonderful surprise that awaited us on our wedding day. The flowers came and they were beautiful, fresh, lush, and more than we could have asked for. The colors, design...everything was spot on! At the venue, we saw the centerpieces and were again blown away at the simplicity, and how artfully the piece was arranged. Deb and her family were all extremely friendly and easy to talk to and work with. We are so grateful that they were able to take on our wedding on such short notice and with such diligence. read more
