This is my favorite Greek restaurant in BR, and we have so many to choose from! They have the best baba ghanoush and it's not even close. Their pita is also the best, really love the zaatar seasoning they put on it. Both the gyro and chicken shwarma are great and their combo plate is hard to beat. I love their Grecian/tzaziki sauce, I especially like that it doesn't have raw onion in it like lots of other places which usually overpowers everything. Service is always fast but not at the expense of quality! Great lunch stop during a work day. read more

I have discovered the best Mediterranean food in the Baton Rouge area. If you happen to live or work in BR you are lucky to have several very good Med restaurants to choose from. I thought I had found the best until a co-worker recommended this Roman's location. We usually hit up Roman's for lunch. If you need good food, good service, and to get in and out quickly, this should be on your list. Saying the food is good is a bit of an understatement though. It is legit great. My go-to is the combo gyro shawarma plate. It comes with rice, hummus, and a salad. I ditch the rice for extra hummus and they do that for no charge. The gyro is great but the shawarma is by far the best I have ever had. It is tender and juicy and as flavor-packed as any other food I have ever tried. I do not know how they do it, but it is impressive. My combo plate and water were around $16 before tip. While that isn't a cheap lunch it is about average for BR lunch places. I ordered 100 grapeleaves to be picked up Easter Saturday for Sunday. They looked beautiful. But when you bit into them, there was so much red pepper or chili powder that 33 of us could not eat them. We ended up throwing 170.00 worth of food away. My kibbee was the same way. Couldn't eat that either. The seasoning also effected my 88 year old mother. She had a bad reaction to the seasoning. When I called the Manager, he was rude. Kept saying yeah, yeah yeah. Wouldn't let me get a word in edge wise. I ended up hanging up. My parents are 1st generation Lebanese & Syrian. We stopped in for some Greek food when we realized our refrigerator was empty after returning from vacation. We had never been here and it was pretty close to our house so we thought we would try it out. It is hidden in a strip mall next to Smoothie King. First impression was a little under whelming. The place is small with only 10 tables and a small bar. But the smells coming from the kitchen were devine!!! We asked about some wine. The server recomend a Greek red, which I got and loved. BF got one one of the two white wines they had and he didn't care much for it. We started with an order of fried cheese. I ordered the meat moussaka with baba and hummus. BF got the gyro plate. The cheese came out pretty quickly. It was crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside and sitting in a creamy garlic sauce. Each dinner came with a greek salad, which was fresh and not too heavy on the greek dressing. The dinner plates arrived with some hot herb covered fresh pitas. Not sure they were house made, but they were so soft and light. The hummus and baba were very tasty and went well with the herbed pitas. The moussaka as soooooo good. Seasoned beef with eggplant and bechamel. Yum! They are uber eats, so we can get our greek fix if we are too lazy to get in the car and drive next time. read more

Oh man this is tough! I'm such a Serops loyalist but trying Romans for the first rime really shook me. Now I don't know which one is better! They're neck and neck. Roman's meat was soooo tender and well seasoned! I got delivery because they had an awesome deal on an app. The pitas were kinda crunchy which was weird? But I liked the seasoning it had on top. Let me start off by saying I loooove Roman's Cafe! At first, I used to just order the gyro plate, but one day I tried their Roman's salad with gyro and I fell in love with it!! It has romaine, feta, artichoke, grape leaves, falafel, onions, olives, tomatoes, tabouli, grecian sauce, dried tomatoes, and thin, crispy pita chips! You can add meat to it for an extra charge, which I always do. It's a great alternative if you're trying not to eat too much rice or pita. Their Roman's salad dressing is so addicting that I always ask for extra! My friend absolutely loves their flash grilled lamb and hot sauce and constantly raves about these two items, so make sure you try those too! The service here is always great and everyone is usually friendly. I've never had a bad experience at Roman's and definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area or from out of town! read more

This isn't the first time I've been, and I've always enjoyed it. A noticeable difference this time was the freshly remodeled interior. It's very nice, bright, and clean. On the flip side, no one bothered to greet me upon arrival, and there was no one there. No one else dined in so it seems like a good bit of their business is to-go. The food is the reason I will come back. The pita bread is the best in town--save for the fact that they didn't want to give us much. The food is excellent. One particular employee has been so rude on multiple occasions that I can't see myself supporting the business any longer. We get take out from the Old Hammond location at least once weekly and recently the man behind the counter has been off putting. He ignores customers standing in front of him, very passive aggressive and genuinely seems to hate his job. I will try the Bluebonnet location and hope we don't see him there. read more

Wife snd I had dinner at Roman's. Had not eaten here in months, but wanted to eat a good Gyro in pita sandwich. The Gyro was okay, not great. It came with a salad and hummus. The salad had one slice of tomato on it. I ended ip mot eating the salad because they added mint to it! Our waiter was terrible. Was not service with a smile. No greeting a barely said a word. Wife asked about the menu while think of what to order snd he suddenly left. Eventually came back and took our order. Later brought 2 pitas. They used to pour some of the olive oil and vinegar (?) in a dish along with some seasoning. After he took our order I also ordered the Mediterranean Hummus. He brought that with no additional pita to dip in it. Wife had the Moussaka which she did not enjoy. After bringing the food he never came back to see if we needed anything else like a refill. Usually do not go to this location due to where I work however was in the area around lunchtime earlier this week so I suggested this location---for this type food, the new Roman's location are more luxurious looking and closer to fine dining with its decor and overall presentation but the menus items are the same---I think the plates/dishes may be a little different (or is it the way the place the food on the plates?) --anyway, ordered the combo plate and it was similar in quantity and quality to other locations. You just have to decide which competition you enjoy and prefer and while each are similar and each are different, I like them all. The only thing I have an issue with this visit (and it has happened to me another on a lunch visit to the Bluebonnet Romans) is the desire to give you your bill while one is still eating---while my lunch time guest was finished, I clearly was not, yet the server seeks to present the bill and have us pay---and since I am the one not finished, I felt rushed----and please not that on both occasions there were ample tables available which did not require this. read more

We eat here often. Julie insists Roman's makes the best Sawarma, and I always get the gyros platter, they sauté onions for the gyros and that's tasty! The place is always clean and the food is fresh! Their humus is really good along with the salads. Pita is soft and warm, your choice of white or wheat, we always get both. I like their tzatziki sauce quite a bit! Their servers are always super friendly very attentive and quick to refill your drink! Y'all come in and eat up, Jenny Craig is two doors down!! read more

I tried going here for dinner at 6:40. They refused to let my group eat because they closed at 7, even though we still had 20 minutes until closing and there were people already inside eating. It was incredibly frustrating because my group (3 people) was very hungry and upset to be turned down. Although the food is good, being turned away is discouraging and doesn't make someone want to come back. I suggest that this restaurant extends their working hours until at least 8pm because I do not know of any other restaurants in this area that close as early as 7pm. read more

I dont usually like greek food, so I was pretty bummed about eating there but it was the day before his birthday so I went along with it. And I'm SO GLAD I did. I absolutely love everything about this place. Even though it's small, I love the atmosphere and music, the service is super friendly and quick, and the food is amazing. I am in love with the Roman's salad which is like a healthy Lebanese sampler plate: falafel, dolmas (grape leaves,) feta salad, tzatziki, artichokes, sun dried tomatoes, pita chip strips, tabouleh, and pieces of heaven. I add gyro to it and of course order a Lebanese tea and it's as if I took a short trip to the Mediterranean. I love how customizable they allow you to be with the sides, if you order an entree, you don't have to get rice and hummus you can sub out for any sides. Bonus: I order the wheat pita which comes out very warm, and I mix olive oil and Greek seasonings (that they keep on the table) on a small plate for dipping the pita. It's fabulous. We just really "discovered" Roman's restaurants in Baton Rouge. We've eaten at the Bluebonnet location twice and the Airline location once, all in one week! We're partial to this Airline location. BOTH locations have beautiful staff, so friendly and helpful and genuinely glad to have you dining there. And their menus differ just a tiny tad. My husband ordered the lamb shank and he was so satisfied. He said the gravy was just wonderful! I ordered a bunch of sides cuz I couldn't decide. I had the potatoes, eggplant moussaka, vegetarian stuffed grape leaves. The potatoes are cubed and then sautéed or grilled or something to make them just right, crispy and flavorful. And I getting to like stuffed grape leaves more and more. These were just so flavorful and just the right amount of "tang". I treated myself to the Lebanese iced tea...and it was a treat. Just right sweet and tart. The pita is soft and warm. To say we brought home boxes of what we couldn't eat is an understatement! I will write another review for the Roman's on Bluebonnet, so be looking for that one. read more

Had dinner here with my wife last night. We both had swarma plates, mine beef and hers chicken. The meats were seasoned the same but with very different result. Flavorful as you would expect Lebanese food to be, but the chicken was very dry. Almost too dry to eat, like a jerky. My beef was more moist. The rice accompanying was good and the hummus was smooth and creamy. The feta salad and pita bread were good too. Lebanese tea was a sweet and floral treat. Stumbled across this on Yelp while rushing around doing errands. YUM! It's small, cozy, and unpretentious (which is good since I was grabbing food by myself this afternoon). Actually, there were only two other guests here, each at a table by himself too. I'm doing low carb, but that bread hit my table and looked too yummy to pass up. Oil, herbs, and balsamic vinegar are on the table . I ordered a lunch gyro place with no rice, and the server let me pick from all of the sides to sub (Albasha offers more salad)! That's a plus, and I picked the eggplant mousaka which was AMAZING! The gyro with onions was really good, salad good, hummus good. I had to try the hot sauce- love it! I grew up in and around Detroit, Michigan. Any of you who have ever learned anything about the area may know that that metro Detroit houses the largest middle-eastern population in the entire United States. Needless to say, I grew up eating the most authentic food from the middle east region, as there are restaurants on every corner. In fact, if you know your cuisine, you will find that the Detroit-area restaurants' menus all differ based on the specific place the proprietors hail from (turkish, lebanese, iraqi, greek, etc.). When I left Michigan nearly 8 years ago, I was shocked to find that pretty much everywhere else in the U.S., you can only dine at umbrella "mediterranean" or "middle eastern" restaurants that serve dumbed-down, "americanized" versions of middle-eastern cuisine. I found it completely appalling that folks around the US went to the same place for gyros that they did for shawarma. It's additionally offensive that nobody seems to serve beef or lamb shawarma. Enter Roman's. When I first moved to BR, I was told to avoid this place. It took two years of eating subpar middle eastern food before i tried this place, and I only did so because of it's proximity to woman's hospital while my youngest daughter was being born. When I first walked in and opened up the menu, I knew that I was in the right place when I saw beef shawarma right at the top. I fell in love with Roman's that night and have never been let down at this place since. Now Roman's isn't perfect (I still haven't found a place that serves REAL Shish Taouk), but what they do, they do it well and well enough that there is no reason to eat anywhere else in BR. Therefore, as far as BR goes, this is a 5-star joint. However, if you must eat somewhere else and care to know my opinion, here's how the area's "middle-eastern" restaurants rank (note: i've not included sadaf cafe or cafe mediterranean, as I have not dined at either of those): 1. Roman's 2. Arzi's (oddly enough, the Mall's food court location is the best one) 3. Albasha 4. Serop's 5. Cafe Phoenicia I came to find out later that I was told to avoid this place because years ago, before I moved here, there was apparently some controversy regarding Roman's not paying their taxes. Honestly, as long as someone is giving me the delicious food I ask for at the price listed on the menu, it's not my worry whether or not they pay their taxes. read more

Great atmosphere!!! Love the up beat music. Was greeted as soon as i entered. I ate the chicken shrorma salad... really good. Service could be better. Three waitresses talked about someone and a cracked phone and did not check on me once. As I asked Sasha for a to go container, she was starring into space zoned out. I had to ask twice.... I assume the man that greeted me at the door was the manager. He wouldn't have to work so hard if the waitresses would be more attentive. I probably won't be back do to poor service. read more

I've never eaten Lebanese food before. I had the fish. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. I also tried an appetizer called buba something, it was okay. Their native hot sauce was out of this world good and just enough heat to keep me from complaining about how no one has hot hot sauce! The waiter, a college student, did an awesome job attending to me. Wish I could mention his name but I didn't catch it. He was tipped 25% for a job well done. I chose sautéed spinach & rice pilaf as my sides and no Grecian sauce (which still came on the plate - not a big deal, just thought I'd mention it).. The pita bread was fresh and delicious.. The feta cheese salad was disappointing though.. There was more of the stalk/heart of romain than the actual leaves.. The beef was tender but the chicken was very tough for my liking.. My favorite part of the meal was the sautéed spinach and rice pilaf.. I will go back to try their chicken shawarma salad and hopefully it's a better experience.. The service was also less than mediocre.. I'm not completely writing them off just yet but I'm definitely hoping for a better review to give for them to redeem themselves next time.. read more

Well I heard all the hype about this place and I'm so glad I listened. I had the Gyro plate and it was extremely delicious. The lamb was moist and cooked to perfection! I come to BR 3 times a year and I always make sure to eat here 2-3 times..... they have the best Greek and Lebanese food I have ever had. My only complaint is the falaful and the plates they serve on.... they need to go to a bigger plate so the food doesn't end up on top of each other. Always a nice staff :) read more
