Who knew yummy Cuban food could be found in Olathe! This spot was recommended by another Yelper. The interior is big but inviting. Nice comfy booths. Saw lots of couples - maybe this a the local date night spot?? Popped in on a Saturday evening. No reservation needed. Started with the garlic bread and chicken samosas. Both were delish. The samosas were stuffed full of chicken. The green sauce was tasty too. Lots of seafood, chicken, beef and pork entrees. I was not familiar with some of the fish entrees. It's a big menu and almost all of it is in Spanish. So I went with what Genevieve our server recommended. The chicken breast with onions and peppers. It's sounds plain but it was full of flavor and served with black beans and rice. I substituted plantains for tostones. The tostones were meh. My dinner companion ordered the chimichurri steak. It also came with black beans, white rice and plantains. She said it was delicious. They also serve paella - which I really wanted to try but they entree is for 2 or more. Some of the fish items are kinda spendy. But the other meat items are in the $20 or less range. In addition to soda and lemonade, they serve margaritas and beer. I ordered a skinny margarita and it tasted watered down. So next time I'll ask for no ice. For dessert we tried the churros. Not bad. The service was great. I LOOOOOVE a good Cuban sandwich, and appreciate almost all Cuban food, so when my aunt invited me here for lunch for my first-ever visit last week, I was pretty excited! First off, I had no idea this place was here! However, upon seeing the depth and history of reviews on Yelp, it appears I'm about the last person in southwest KC to figure it out, so that's a positive! We entered just after opening on a weekday for lunch, and there were a handful of other parties already there. I'm glad we arrived early, as they definitely had a bit of a lunch rush a few minutes later! The dining room was much larger than the strip-mall location makes it appear, and was festive and clean! Our waitress was joined by a new-hire trainee, and both of them were absolutely wonderful! They walked me through some favorites and popular items, which I'm always grateful for on a first visit! Although the menu was pretty expansive, and I was definitely tempted to go in any of a dozen different directions, I HAD to start my Romeito journey with my Cuban go-to: the Cuban sammy, of course! Of note on the menu: they have a Cuban flag next to any item on the menu that denotes a traditional Cuban dish or meal! Very nice! What a find in of all places, Kansas. Face it, not the first place you would think of for Cuban food. This is a family owned and operated business which deserves to be supported. A lot of love coming through in the food served. I ordered is the Ropa Vieja which literally translates to "old clothes" and is recognized as the national dish of Cuba. The stew was wonderful and the shredded flank steak cooked to perfection. The broth consisted of tomato with pepper & onion. It was incredibly tender and full of amazing flavors cooked long enough to dampen the acidity of the tomatoes. When my friend and I walked in I noticed the nice vibes. The friendly hostess directed us to our table and on the way there I noticed the waiter doing a happy dance which put a smile on my face. I already like this place and I haven't even tried the food yet. I also like it when the staff seem to really love their job. The nice waiter came and took our order. I ordered a sangria, platano maduro frito (fried sweet plantains) for an appetizer and the sandwich cubano. Everything was amazing! Nice size sangria. Holy cow!! I can't believe a restaurant THIS GOOD is so close to home! I've never had Cuban food before, but me and my family were completely blown away by the cuisine. It was so good that we even got dessert here (which is saying something for us). The whole staff is very friendly and inviting and made us all feel welcome. We started with the tamale appetizer which was incredible. I'd go back for just for that! My husband had the Cubano sandwich, I had the fried fish, and my mother had the grilled chicken marinated in mojo sauce. Absolutely fantastic--all of us were quite impressed with the flavors. For dessert we ordered the bread pudding and churros. They gave us a complementary flan as the chef didn't think the bread pudding was large enough, too. Believe the reviews - this place IS a hidden gem. One bite in on all of four of our meals and we were already talking about coming back. Three of us focused on the dinner entrees and one wasn't going to pass up the opportunity for a Cubano sandwich. We enjoyed two of the Tuesday specials: Carne con Papas & Lechon Asado and the 4th member of our party had the 1/2 Pollo Desguesado. Plenty to eat all around. From the food to the decor to the staff it was a great 1st impression. If we lived closer we would be going here all the time. I think Romeito will be in our favorite restaurant rotation. Big portions. 1 main dish is enough for 2 people. Beef was moist and well seasoned. Rice was grainy, and plantains were delicious. Pork was also perfectly cooked. Price is not cheap per dish, but if you take into consideration that 1 plate can be shared for 2 people, then certainly it is a very affordable place. Juices were also delicious. Multiple tropical fruits available. Flan was good. Maybe the croquetas were slightly dry. Overall the food here is outstanding. Service: The best that you can get. I've been salivating to go back to Romeito since my chef friend and I discovered this jewel back in December. It's far from us so I've had to wait. I brought my son today and it did not disappoint. I LUV their fresh and tangy ceviche and my son ordered a pressed sandwich. He loved it and he'a picky. We don't normally order desert but when it's a good meal desert can top the experience. I've never been crazy for flan, always cold and a little hard. I much prefer crème brûlée but the Romeito flan was delicious. Next time I will get my own and not share ha ha ! This is one of my favorite places to eat in Olathe! It's a relaxed place to dine with great service. The food is awesome -- I've gone multiple times, each time trying something new, and I haven't been disappointed. (I'm not Cuban so this is an American opinion). Whenever I used to desire Cuban food, I would make the trek down to Blue Caribe in KCK. Unfortunately, they closed. A friend of mine called me a few months ago and told me there was a new Cuban restaurant where my favorite Mexican restaurant was, so I decided to meet him there for lunch. First off, the restaurant is nicely appointed and very colorful. The seating is comfortable and the place is spotless. I was greeted right away by a friendly lady who turned out to also be our server. She gets people out of their shell with her banter, which I love. Most places these days hire waitstaff that would rather text you and not make eye contact, so I find this refreshing. The food is great! Some people think that Cuban food is bland, but they don't have the palate to enjoy well prepared food. I had gastric issues for a while and Cuban is the only Latin food that I could eat. My favorites are the Lechon Asado and the Cubano sandwich, they are simply delicious. Since the first time I came in, I've been back 8 or 9 times and I have yet to find something that I don't like. It's not Miami, but it's absolutely 100% the best Cuban food we're going to get in Olathe, and I'm here for it. My friend and I ordered the lechon asado and the cubano with a side of tostones. First tip: order extra tostones and maduros. Best decision I made that day. Tostones and maduros are both dishes made from plantains. Tostones are smashed and fried before they're ripe, and they turn into these beautiful, thick crisps that are like the Cuban waffle fries you didn't know you needed in your life. Maduros are sweet and soft where tostones are salty and crispy. They're plantains that have been riped until dark and then fried, and the pair goes so well together with all kinds of Cuban-style prepared meats. Do not skimp on the sides and desserts when it comes to Cuban food--they're worth trying and make the meal that much more. The lechon asado (Cuban marinated pork) was fantastic. I wish it would've had more marinated onions with it and been broken up a bit more, but all things considered, it reminds me of Miami and that's what I was hoping for. Honestly, the Cubano was the only letdown. While it's more authentic than the alternatives, it makes a Cubano just look like a standard fare ham sandwich, and I was looking for a bit more finesse in the bread and meat preparation. A new restaurant is in town! Last night, I tried Romeito Cuban Restaurant for the first time. I'm glad to have a new diverse cuisine option in West Olathe. It was actually my first time trying Cuban food, ever. I had a great experience at Romeito. I told the waitress that it was my first time eating Cuban food and asked for recommendations. She explained some of the options on the menu to me and pointed out things I might like. I tried the Ropa Vieja, which was on special. The food was great, and the portion sizes were very large. My partner ordered the Cubano Sandwich, and it was humungous. My Ropa Vieja was a shredded beef in red sauce, and it came with a side of rice, black beans, and sweet plantains. Being married to a Cuban, we are pretty picky about trying authentic Cubano cuisine. Many places have come and gone, and just seem to miss the mark a bit but Romeito feels authentic and genuine. It's located out in Olathe in a strip mall area but feels like family when you enter. The menu is huge and we tried quite a few items. The Cuban sandwich is made the way it should be; with roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, mustard, and pickles and the Vaca Frita (fried shredded beef), Maduros (fried sweet plantains), and Black Beans & Rice are all very delicious. I really love it when I find a place that we love that is close by to our home. Friendly staff and delicious food. Started with a black marg--a little too sugary for me, but it was good. Got the lechon asada with a side of plantains and vegetable medley. The pork was nice and fatty. Paired with what tasted like a pickled stir fried onion, it worked perfectly with the fatty pieces. I was able to try their side of rice too, and holy moly was it seasoned so well, and so tasty with the pork belly that was it cooked in. My husband got pork chunk type dishes because they didn't have what he wanted due to running out. I wanted paella, but it is a dish that needs an hour to cook the server advised. All our food came out at the same time and even allergies were accounted for and accommodated. Our drinks were kept refilled and the bread at the beginning of the meal was even good too. A little hidden gem of Olathe. I was told about this place from a good friend and I shocked that I had driven past it so many times! Romeito is a cute little restaurant in a strip mall. Good for casual dining. The server was very nice from Argentina. They brought out a garlic bread that I believe was made on brioche bread. For an appetizer we ordered the Cerviche which had fish and shrimp cured in Lemon Juice, cilantro and tomatoes. It was served with banana chips. The flavors were really great. Very strong citrus flavor. I was going to order just the flank steak but the server showed me for just 3 more dollars I could get the same meal with shrimp and calamari. The only difference was that no beans and rice were included. That was fine because instead of the plantains I got their beans and rice and yuka. The rice could've used more flavor but I took the juice from my cerviche and drizzled it on top. The flank steak was not soft but its not the best time for steak. The calamari was chewy, but the shrimp was great. The yuka had a great flavor. Looking at it, you would think it wouldn't have flavor but it was fantastic. My dining partner ordered the Lechon Asado. Which is basically roasted pork, it was very juicy and tender. It came with white rice and black beans along with fried plantains. The meal was about 75$. I really liked this place and would like to try other items in their menu, in particular the chicken options. I would highly recommend. read more

Second visit. Took a group of 14 for a late family lunch on a Saturday. Romeitos handled it beautifully. The best mojito I've ever had. Seriously good. And I've had them all over, even better than any I've had in Florida. Great Cuban sandwich. Ask to hold the mayo, if that's not your thing. The lentil soup is a bowl of heaven. The frijoles negros were perfectly cooked and had a thick, soupy consistency. Just like they should. House made croquetas are top notch. Loved the tostones rellenos with shrimp. We just got back from Romeito Cuban Restaurant, and the food was so delicious! What a gem Olathe has now. They just opened up about a week ago. When we walked in, it reminded us of little Havana in Miami with the music and the decor. The employees are so sweet and so friendly. We were so excited to try Cuban food again, but weren't sure of what to get. So we had a lot of questions, and they were patient with us. My husband went with his go to Cuban sandwich (huge portions and so good!). He ordered a Modelo, too. I ordered the churrasco mariscoquiado which is a skirt steak topped with seafood (omg, amazing and huge portions). I also ordered a pina colada (so tasty!). Oh, and they bring you free basket of buttered bread. I don't think you can go wrong with what you order here. I was eyeing all the food that was coming out, and what others ordered around me. All looked so yummy! We will definitely go back and try the oxtail and lamb that they were telling us about. It is a special and only served on Saturdays and Sundays.
