This was my first time trying Cuban food and I was pleasantly surprised! The food was soo tasty! I ordered a sampler and the fish and shrimp platter with rice and it was enough to feed this family of 5. The servers were kind and food came out quickly. It took us a little extra than we would like to get out of there, due to waiting on the check, the restaurant became busy as the evening went on. This is a very easy review to write. The food was excellent. I had mahi ceviche, followed by a fantastic Cuban sandwich. The portion sizes are very generous, and the food tastes really good. I had enough of my meal that most of the sandwich I took and ate later, and it was just as amazing, both times. Do yourself a favour and come here. I went here on a Sunday after church and had a ham and cheese sandwich that was very delicious. They were already out of plantain chips so I didn't get to try those and had to have fries. They still charged me the dollar extra for changing to fries, even though it wasn't my choice so that's why they get four stars instead of five. The restaurant was very clean and I would go again. Heaven! Great meats. Great service. Our group raved about everything we ordered. We kicked off the night with the ham and Swiss empanadas- MUST order. The 4 of us each ordered a different main entree but the most notable dish were the fried beef pork chunks. Each entree is served with sweet plantains...yum! Cuban food in KC is few and bar between, so I'm thankful for Romeito, and thankfully it is AWESOME! I had their Friday night special, the fish and shrimp in yummy sauce, served with delicious buttery rice and sweet plantains. Really enjoyed my little Cuban coffee at the end of the meal, which was half espresso, half milk and cinnamon on top. This place is not to be missed. Excellent flavors, huge portions, and very reasonable prices. My husband and I got the Lechon Asado (roasted pork) and the Friday night special of shrimp and fish in a creole sauce. Both of these were excellent, but I especially loved the shrimp and fish. My husband also had the steamed yuca. I only like yuca if it's fried or in soup, but he enjoyed it. The buy one get one free flan special lead me to overdo it a bit. But the coconut flan was awesome. Great first experience at Romeito. Service, food, and atmosphere were all on point. The Mojitos are the best we've ever had. You should not miss them. We had empenadas, lechon asada, flan, and cuban coffee. All of them were very good. One of us is not normally a pork eater but still enjoyed lechon. The other is not a coffee drinker but loved the cuban coffee. The service was excellent - attentive and friendly. The space is not luxurious but is nice and clean. As others have mentioned, there is a minimal service charge for using a credit card. Overall, we were impressed and will be back. The other positive reviews are accurate. Romeito just opened yesterday (8/22/22) where El Mariachi used to be near the Papa John's. I ordered two items off the Tuesday specials for carry out: carne con papas and lechón asado. They also gave me Cuban bread and there were free pastries by the register. I did not call ahead but I think I waited only about 10 minutes for the food. Everything was packaged well and was seriously delicious. The portions seem generous too. I will be going back to try more dishes. They have a pretty big menu. We couldn't believe our eyes when we saw a Cuban restaurant had opened so close to home. Our family's favorite is in Del Ray Beach so it's not often that we get one of our favorite meals. We look forward to being regulars at Romeito. Our first meal was a huge Cubano with lots of melty cheese and with a touch more mustard would have been perfect. Served with homemade crispy fries for $8.25 it's a bargain and enough for lunch the next day. My Palomilla steak entree was huge and delicious with two sides for $10.25 - I chose fried plantains and black beans and rice. I enjoyed a second lunch this week. The staff is lovely and the former Mexican restaurant has been given a facelift. This will become a neighborhood favorite quickly! read more

My grandparents are from Cuba and so I was brought up on authentic Cuban dishes and this is by far the most authentic Cuban restaurant I've been to in my whole 24 years of life. The food taste just like my abuela and abuelo make for our big family functions. the servers are so sweet and very helpful if you aren't sure what to get.
