Very small place, limited seating , still worth going, great staff Friendly Staff. Great home cooked breakfast. Reasonably priced, great customers too. Very recommended to eat here and worth the wait.

Delicious home cooking. Friendly servers. A small place to see locals that you don't get to see often enough.

Great breakfast. Limited seating, wait is worth it. Closed Sun & Mon. But seems like whole town is off Sun & Mon.

The waitress was very friendly and very accommodating with recommendations for dietary restrictions. The fried chicken is an absolute must.. perfectly fried and crispy and good balance of flavors. We tried a few other things that was pretty average like the open faced turkey sandwich and the salmon and mash potatoes. I would also recommend getting the gravy on the side and eating everything with it... not exactly sure what is in it but keep doing your thing Southern Kitchen. We were seated quickly and we noticed our waitress was Slow on getting to the tables for drinks and after about 10 minutes she came by and got our drinks. Upon her getting close and speaking it was very apparent she was very intoxicated and I remarked that it was sad about her condition. As we waited for our food we watched her interactions with other tables and she had problems remembering what table was which. She delivered food to the wrong tables and dropped other food on the floor trying to deliver it. Her fellow waitresses were actually calling her out in the middle of the dining room telling her to get her act together. When she delivered the food the hamburger steak platter was literally a dry hamburger patty that was old and had a thimble of gravy. the mashed potatoes were instant and had been poorly mixed because the powder was still dry in the middle. The glazed carrots were old soggy and brown ( see the picture) . We never got a bill because she just disappeared completely. We went to pay and the cashier was able to look up the order and we spoke to her about the waitress needing some help and her condition and all she would say is " we will try"

So that what we tried. They serve breakfast all day and offer carry out. Walking in, it was the standard, small town welcome. Everyone (staff and patrons) looks at you and stares. Even after you say hello, they just stare at you. As a person of color who has been refused service in a small town restaurant (Lynchburg VA) I get really self conscious. I was not sure if was order up or seat yourself. There were no signs or staff instructions. Luckily our friendly and lovely waitress ( Mickey) acknowledged my wife and I. We got our seat and ordered. Lots of seating options. Can seat groups of up to 6. The menu has lots of options, but even more are posted on the wall...they have something for everyone. The portions are big and prices are very decent. Our waitress was friendly but slow only because she was the only one in the front and the place was packed it took over an hour to get our food. Having time to sit ana wait for our food. It appeared that the kitchen staff was new and the morning staff ended their shift as we got there. So with lack of proper turn over, there was a bit of confusion. The food was OK. Nothing to spectacular but not bad or poor quality. They had scrapple which is hard to find.

If you're planning a breakfast outing to the Mountain Top Diner in Romney, WV, do yourself a favor…read moreand keep driving--maybe swing by the Burger King down the road or, better yet, head home and whip up some eggs. We ventured there for the "All You Can Eat" breakfast buffet with high hopes of getting our fill, only to discover that at 9 AM, the buffet was less "All You Can Eat" and more "All You Can Hope For." For $12, you'd expect at least a solid spread, but it was practically empty. I'm talking about the kind of empty that makes you wonder if a pack of hungry ghosts had been through before you. A few stray pieces of bacon here, maybe some eggs that had seen better days--if you're lucky enough to snag them before they disappear into the ether. The term "All You Can Eat" feels like a cruel joke when you're left with a plate that screams "This Is It." The ambiance doesn't do much to help either. Picture a run-down, old-school diner that feels like it should have stayed closed after COVID. The worn-out booths, faded décor, and a general sense of neglect make you wonder if time simply stopped here--and not in a charming way. It's less retro and more relic. If you're considering the experience for the value, don't. You're better off grabbing a drive-thru breakfast sandwich or breaking out the skillet at home. At least then, you won't be left wondering how you paid $12 for what amounts to a scavenger hunt. Mountain Top Diner's breakfast buffet? One star--and that's generous.

I ordered toast & gravy (because the boscuits are terrible) and hash browns. The food arrive cold. Nothing worse than cold gravy. I sent it back to be heated. The gravy came back lukewarm and potatoes were somewhat hot. The gravy was a bit runny and did not taste as good as in the past. Our server was ok, but not the greatest. I hate being called: hun, honey, sweetheart etc. I am none of those things to a server. Sir & ma'am will suffice or just a plain "you're welcome, etc." My dining partner ordered sausage patty, eggs & a pancake. The eggs were over-cooked and cold. The patty was quite hard. We, most likely, will not return.

I asked for mine with egg whites, which added $2.95 to the price. The food came within a decent time after ordering. The plates were overflowing with food. And it all looked great. And it tasted great too. The omelette was filled with mushroom, onion and tomato. Surprisingly, although not mentioned on the menu, the omelette also included American cheese. Really good omelette. The home fries were well prepared and there was a huge amount on both plates. Another success. The English muffin was toasted well and lightly buttered. We're just passing through and unlikely to return here, but if I lived in the area I likely would. They were advertising a Friday night special of 2 crab leg clusters, boiled shrimp, and a couple of sides for about $25. Sounded intriguing. Service was fine, but not noteworthy.
