I used to shop at Ron Jon's when I lived closer to the east coast. Being that I haven't been there in awhile I wasn't sure what to expect. Note I did check out a few other "surf" shops in OCMD that were quite frankly a hot mess and junky. The outside and inside was very pristine and well kept. I love all the brands Oakley, Costa, Rip Curl, etc. The staff was pretty nice. I did buy a Ron Jon pop socket for my phone. Probably overpaid for a Ron Jon logo one but alas I'm from the West Coast and I thought it was cool. When I got back home I found a cute Ron Jon sticker they put in my bag. I'm not going to lie, I'm the wrong person to do a review for a place like this so whatever I write take with a grain of a grain of salt. YMMV. The last two times we've been to OCMD my Old Lady wanted to come to Ron Jon on some sort of nostalgia trip since the last time she had been to one was thirty-ish years ago at a long since closed location somewhere in NJ. My take on what they sell here...Hard No. If you're into pastels, bold colors, more cut off shirts then Larry the Cable Guy owns, loud prints and logoed corporate merch then I guess you might be good here. But, if you're an anti-consumer like myself, you'll last about three minutes before your eyes will roll back in your head like a shark chomping down on a harbor seal waiting for the deliverance of leaving. The staff we encountered was very nice and they answered a question or two my wife asked regarding the few trinkets she wanted. Beach Shopping Surfs ‍ Up! It's touristy it has everything from Surfboards to Shot Glasses clothing swimsuits hats and trinkets.

I love Ron Jons, we have been to several others. My boys are 5 and 4 and love walking around and checking things out. We usally go to the Cocoa Beach location. It was fun, we bought a few sweatshirts and t shirts. Only complaint is the staff seemed to be following us around a bit. Maybe they were worried about the boys creating mischief? read more

My 12 year old daughter's only request on our NE coast tour was to visit Ron Jon's in Ocean City, I was like really??? Dude, we don't even know how to surf and there is more to the coast than a store-smh-preteen girls haha! Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised by the store. She was able to find the shirt she wanted and also picked up sweatshirts for her and her friend back home. They had a big selection of apparel, even my 80 year old mother bought a Ron Jon T-shirt! Also, I was expecting the prices of the shirts/sweatshirts to be really expensive, but they weren't! $20 for T-shirts and $35 for sweatshirts-not bad!! They had all sorts of surf gear as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well, they even gave my mom a 10% off senior discount without asking, that was cool of them! Let me start out by saying, I love Ron Jon's Surf Shop. I love their clothing with the bright colors, and great surfer brand names. Hurler, Quicksilver, Ron Jon's, Van's etc. But 2 name brand shirts and I'm $74.00 out. That's why only 3 stars. I get it.. name brands = $$. I'm pretty picky about what I spend my money on. I work hard for it. But I like all these name brands in here. But....I like my money too. LOL. Anyway, my son now has some pretty cool shirts for school this year. Every time I go into this store - they have more & more to browse! I love quicksilver, Hurley, reef, billabong, Roxy... list goes on and on. We've made it an annual OCMD vacation shopping spot! There are so many friendly associates around to help you find what your looking for. I'd suggest looking on google for the best times (less busy) and go then. Never fun shopping in a packed store. I have been to the Coco beach store and I was really impressed. It was during winter in Wisconsin though so heading to Florida when you are living through a midwest winter is an experience in itself and any place warm with surf wear is a paradise. I was on a winter committee in Wisconsin once and I decided to incorporate Beach Volley ball into the winter activities which is a sign of how desperate one becomes during a six month incarceration into The Cold. The Ocean City Ron Jon's store is everything a surf shop should be. They have colorful clothing and lots of varieties compared to the boardwalk street options on clothing. They sell tons of beach equipment as wel as lounge wear. They sell everything you would need for a day at the beach. read more

((FOR SKATERS)) I love longboarding and pennyboarding. Though, it was a little pricey. It was kind of stupid that the prices for the wheels were individual. I ended up paying 28 dollars for 4 wheels, along with the 90 dollar penny board I got, and TAX. I hate tax. So if you would want to find a longboard, penny board, or skateboard, you should come here. I gave this a two star rating simply because they had very limited sizes to choose from at the time we visited. We were so looking forward to our trip here as well. If you're an XL or 2XL then you are in luck, as they have mass quantities of those sizes. If you're like my family and I and need MED or LRG, you have very little to chose from. Given that many folks are MED or LRG, they should have much more of those in supply. One of the staff told me that they had been "picked clean". Nevertheless we were able to spend over $150 there but would have spent more if we could have found our sizes. Still like the brand but was disappointed in the available stock. read more

I've been to many of the Ron John Stores and the store in Ocean City Maryland is at the bottom of the list. Our reasons Why? 1 - The sizes of the clothing ranges from very small or extra extra large,no in between sizes. Lack of selection. 2- The prices in the store are 2 to 5 dollars more than the Online Ron John prices. 3- When I asked the store manager Chelsea to match the price of the on line prices she said sorry but that is what it's priced at in the store. 4- I asked the manager about the well known 10 % summer guide coupon; she became annoyed and walk away. 5- The manager gave me the 10 percent off and made me feel like a jerk. 6- The staff in the store need to be coached on making all customers feel wanted. What a crock. Excited to go to this place since it's our first time in Ocean City and I visited the one in Florida a lot. Came on Tuesday March 27, hours on Yelp says it opens at 9 got there at 9:30 the doors are still locked. Okay fine no big deal we came back today Wednesday March 28th says it closes at 9, pulled up at 8:15 go to the doors, and they are locked already. All the lights are on but no workers around and can't get in. Either hours are wrong or someone's not doing their job. read more

Was very disappointed upon entering this store. Coming from the west coast I thought Ron Jon was THE east coast surf shop. Staff new nothing about surfing and we're pretty helpless. Prices were way too high and items were very sold out and lame. Didn't see a single real surfboard in the store besides the ones they hang up for decoration. My experience here was ok. The people that work here can be very kind or be very rude and snobby. The one worker gave me attitude when i was just trying to try on the clothes. The sizes were ridiculous they did not have any mediums in women and the only women sizes were xl-xxxxl. I did enjoy my cashier she gave me more than one sticker without me even asking. Pretty much a trinket shop, not like others that bear the Ron Jon name. Staff was nice at first and asked if I needed help and let me in fitting room. They gladly assisted and even got me another shirt. However, when I needed yet another shirt, which I told the associate, when I returned with it she was nowhere to be found and locked my fitting room and pulled a tape across the rooms. That's fine, made more work for herself by having to put away the clothes I left lying on shelf when I walked out because no one seemed to care if I bought something or not....... UPDATE...... Within 12 hours of posting this review, I received a follow up message through Yelp from Ron Jon. They are inquiring into the issue and addressing my concerns. Something they did not have to do but wanted to ensure a good customer experience. It was appreciated. So with that being said, I did increase the rating by one star. UPDATE #2... Ron Jon was in contact with me and has replied to each of my emails. They have gone above and beyond to ensure I was pleased with the outcome and that I was happy enough to remain a loyal customer! Nothing like their larger shops, such as the one in Cocoa Beach. The focus is on clothing at this location, working off of their famous name. The location does have some boards, wetsuits, and housewares. However, if you are needing a board or wanting to rent, there are better stores on the island. Perhaps they are seeing how the shop does before expanding into equipment. read more

I'm local and this shop goes beyond. I've been to other Ron Jons but this one manages to stand out. While its selection and inventory is slightly smaller than the others, it doesn't fail to be a great destination for locals and tourists combined. read more
