Stopped here after a day on Assateague Island. Cute shop with jewelry, clothes, and other goodies. (A little pricey but seemed like quality items) we had a couple sandwiches. Both were good! They have a pretty small menu but there's plenty of variety. I docked a star simply because our food took 20 minutes and it was very busy. Other than that it was great! I went on a day trip to Assateague Island to take in the sights, beach, and Wild horses. We found this cool shop before actually entering the beach and was able to load up on a few of the things we had forgotten at home - 4 hours away. I walked in to buy surf wax ($2 here) and walked out with shirts and hats that said "I (heart) ASS". Christmas shopping done. I would say it was a successful day. This is a very cute surf/coffee shop. This area needed a store like this! While I love Chaunceys [although their staff has a hard time believing women surf (look at their selection of women's wetsuits for example) and I always get asked questions about supporting my man's surfing habit when I get stuff here when it's actually for me] in Ocean City, but I tend to look for every excuse not to go to Ocean City, so this shop is way more convenient for me. I can stop in buy supplies and grab a coffee to go to the beach. They have surfboard rentals (Odysea soft top boards) and boards for sale (also Odysea soft tops), and bikes for rent. Other than the shirts and hats, that make quite a statement, the store carries the typical Billabong and O'neil stuff but then also has cute private label clothing (salty crew) and cute shoes and jewelry. Then you have the coffee shop (Born to Move Coffee and Smoothie Bar) that apparently that sells coffee by the legend Laird Hamilton. I didn't fully peruse the whole menu, I'm not sure if they actually do offer this but Laird made the "bulletproof coffee" drink famous. Bulletproof coffee comes organic coffee, unsalted butter, and organic virgin coconut oil. If coffee makes you poop, I'm not sure what this concoction will do to you, but don't want to be in water when it hits you. I went with the safer frozen mocha version (I think it's called the Mavericks). The staff in here is so friendly and I loved chatting with them. Here's to many more trips to store on my way down to Assateague! I hope my wallet can handle it. read more

This place is an awesome mix between a good surf shop and a cool little cafe. They sell what I would call the "normal" surf shop staples like men's and women's apparel, accessories, surfboards, and long boards. The selection is not crazy big (like not commercial), but it's enough to be fun to look through (as in boutique). Staff were very friendly without being overbearing. The cafe has a place to order with a connected and comfortable lounge area to hangout in. Also appreciated that they handed me my drink without a straw, whether purposeful or not. They offer surfboard rentals as well. Very unique cool little shop. I'll say that this place was far superior to another highly rated surf shop that I visited on the boardwalk in Ocean City. Best breakfast wraps and Acai bowls!!!! They could step up their granola game, but the consistency of the bowl is what truly matters. Wraps are filling enough for my boyfriend which is hard to come by. Perfect pit stop on the way to Assateague. I think there's something for everyone on the menu. This review is based on one very pleasant visit. Stopped here to rent a surfboard and buy a wetsuit. Owner was very pleasant and helpful. The shop is well stocked with wetsuits in a range of sizes, along with fashionable t-shirts, shorts, hoodies and accessories. Cafe has outstanding sandwiches and nice unusual drinks. It was obvious to me the owner knows her market and selects things carefully and displays them nicely and attractively. We will be back! read more

We love Assateague Island Surf Shop! Every time we visit over the summer, we stop here multiple times throughout the weekend. Great quick breakfast and coffee on the way to the beach, and local brews + wines available. I always enjoy perusing the clothing too. Their surfboard rentals for foamies are well priced too and they're flexible about returns. I understand that the customer service can be hit or miss, but overall it's a laidback beach vibe and that's to be expected. Can't wait to come back soon! read more

Located about 2 miles outside of the access road to Assateague Island, this place is a definite must-stop. The surf shop is awesome. Lots of surfer brands and also 'Assateague' shirts. To the right of the store, they have an awesome café that offers small bites and coffee drinks.They make an awesome iced coffee! The last time through, I got the 611 acai bowl and it was perfect for a hot summer morning. Best acai bowl I've had outside of California. In the seating area of the café they have a large screen that plays surfing videos and other surfing related videos. Super cool vibe! We usually stop on our way in and out of the beach. So, I'm camping down at Assateague Island and the breakfast is granola bars and campfire coffee complete with uncooked grounds and sand...eff dat I say! Luckily, a fellow camper who knows the area took us to the AI Surf Shop, just a short drive from the beach. The staff was courteous and the Americano, latte, and frozen mocha coffees were all expertly prepared. What I insist you try is the Riptide sandwich. It is ostensibly the best sandwich I've had since February 2016 in London. Nice chunks of hormone free chicken combined with perfectly proportioned asiago cheese and artichoke spread are generously slathered on a wholesome rosemary ciabatta bun. This sandwich is very filling and tided me over nicely from breakfast to dinner. There is a small area to eat with cozy wicker table and chairs. The decor of exposed beam ceiling, Italian lights and Native American wall tapestry with surfboards and stingray bicycles was very cool. The whole atmosphere of the store gave off a relaxed vibe. When my family was camping at Assateague we stopped by the Surf Shop a couple times for breakfast. This shop has a great restaurant with a variety of options - especially for me because I'm the only vegetarian in my family. Also, attached to the restaurant is an adorable clothing shop with clothes from trendy stores, such as Billabong. The only thing I would not recommend would be the chai tea latte, it came out a bit watery and was unusual. Other then that, I absolutely would eat here again and I wish there were one like it where I live! read more

We go down to Assateague/Ocean city for the past several years. We skipped last year and when we went back this year, we found this place. I had several things I needed to find during my trip to Ocean city/Assateague. 1-A place to rent a surf board for a decent price: Check! 2- A place where we can buy nice stylish "beachy"clothing (not the tacky Sunsations crap that is plaguing all of Ocean city): Check! 3- A place to grab some healthy food on the go: Check! Definitely get the Wedge Acai bowl! I found all that I needed in one place and more! This place is awesome and the decor is unreal. Love this place. We REALLY needed coffee before going to the beach and this was the only option we saw. But we were thrilled that it was so nice inside and the coffee was very good. The barista didn't know how to make one of the drinks we ordered but instead of saying they couldn't they asked us to describe it and they tried to make it. Great customer service. read more

My sister took me here for an acai bowl and it was so freaking awesome. I had never had one before and I wanted to go back for another during my short stay in Berlin, Maryland. The shop itself is cute, awesome atmosphere, cool clothing, jewelry and accessories. I came down last summer for vacation and was very impressed, however this year wasn't exactly the same experience. I went three days in a row for each day my family and I went to the beach and the service was slower each time. I tried to get in touch with an owner unfortunately they were not there all of the three times i was. Sad to say we will not be returning. read more

Would like to start off this review saying I have never before even considered downloading yelp to write a review even after some horrible experiences. After a few bad run ins with this places and talking to other locals I felt like this was a necessary thing for me to do. As a local I would never want to put down a local business but quite frankly this place is ridiculous. The only reason it's getting one star is because I actually think the staff is friendly..just the owner needs a serious wake up call. A couple of days ago I went in to the cafe to get a smoothie and some food pretty early in the morning, they were not busy. My two items I ordered were taking forever per usual in this place so as I was waiting I decided to walk around. I was on the phone and wasn't planning on buying anything pretty much looking. After looking through the whole store I went back into the cafe and was standing in the middle of the room not even near any merchandise. The owner came storming at me and told me she saw me put something in my purse and literally rummaged through my purse. As I was standing there I put my hang in my purse really quick to check if I put my debt card back.. I pretty much laughed in her face because it was so uncomfortable and embarrassing. After she obviously didn't find anything she didn't apologize and went back to work. Would also like to add that I am 6 1/2 months pregnant currently If that adds more a picture to the story. Rewind to the other times I have shopped in this place and have spent hundreds of dollars. The owner tells her employees to pretty much follow you so closely around the store you feel so uncomfortable. And I completely understand you don't want people to steal from you but I think this places needs to get a grip. You can't run a business like that and treat costumers(cough cough a local) like that. If being in this isn't enough to turn you off to this place they have zero original things on their menu in the cafe. Pablos bowls which is down the street from them on 611 and has been open years before them has almost the same menu WITH THE SAME NAMES. She couldn't have even come up with new names for her items. I can promise you will have a better more friendlier experience at Pablos bowls down the street. Also there are tons more local surf shops in the area that are going to be comfortable and reasonably priced. Sorry for the rant but trust me on this one and safe yourself from a super uncomfortable and embarrassing experience. I will never be shopping in here or supporting this business ever again and will make sure all locals know what has happened to me in here. read more

The shop stands behind their products and the owner had no issue helping me out with a product I bought and went the extra mile to provide quality information and retrieve an array of skimboards to pick from. I could not be more impressed with the help I got as they went over the top to ensure their customers were happy. Easy 5/5. I'm not sure what the negative review was about because we were treated extremely nicely upon entering the store. We initially came in wanting sandwiches but they hadn't started serving them yet, so they recommended another place further down the road. I thought that was extremely risky but very sincere. Unfortunately, we had a disappointing experience here. It took 20 minutes for a simple set of burritos. When mine arrived, it prominently displayed an ingredient they indicated could be removed. Instead of simply apologizing and offering to correct it, the staff tried to insist it was right until I had to peel the item apart and show her. Went there on our way to the island. They made me my favorite smoothie. It was almond milk, peanut butter, banana and then because they did not have oranges they used clementines. I so recommend them to anyone. They are friendly very attentive and so super sweet. Even recommended a place to get sandwiches for the island. I was so happy that I was able to get my smoothie.
