May 10, 2026 was our second time Dining at Mackey's, arriving late. Last time we got in just before…read morethe dining room locked up. Tonight, as Sweet D touched the handle, the door was locked. But...the basement bar keeps the grill open until 1 a.m. Service was excellent, polite, friendly, helpful. They have a good Non-Alcoholic beer selection. We each got a Guinness NA. We ordered a steak sandwich with tater tos, adding a side salad. The tots were crispy golden. The salad was fresh, crouton-y with fresh tiny tomatoes, cucumber and grated cheeses. The sandwich pickle slice was crispy, the sandwich good. Will we return? Next time we visit Ontario before 8 p.m.

I told em' I should get a free hat much as I tell my pals ta go eat in da joint. The babe waiting on us couldn't do it .. don't matter I'll eat here when I pass thru Ontario anyhow. The Irish Red ain't bad if yas has a driver. (It's way way good!) But on the side a this and almost as important as da food is the servers here. Never been one that was anything less than absolutely professional, got my order right and was cordial and warm. Every dang time! This is no bunk. I am happy to part with some a my cabbage here. If yer drifting through Ontario Oregon it's duck soup to pull the ol' boiler off the hiway for an hour or so, gas up, and fill yer ownself up at Mackey's at the same time. I never had anything I didn't like off the menu. Look around when yer in dis joint. Might see Hammer and a couple of his brothers sucking down a lil' grub, you nevah know. Even if yas don't there's good folks here and good company. OK, I'm done chinning.

Let's start this off by saying the service was good. The food however was just barely ok. The prime…read morerib was tough. The 18 oz ribeye was cooked to perfection, really good. The Rocky Mountain oysters were way over cooked but good flavor. The salad was way under par with croutons that were hard and tomatoes that were slightly wilted and a hair in my wife's salad. Very underwhelming for a meal, with tip, of almost $200 for 2 people.

The Sirloin with 2 sides is only around $13 compared with almost double that on the dinner menu. Good specials on drinks too. Summer took great care of me. She's excellent. Even though baked potatoes aren't supposed to be ready that early she got me one. I got the lunch rib plate, which is a huge beef rib (although a little smaller than it used to be). It was mostly meat and not much fat. Way too much for me to eat, it provided lunch the next day as well. I brought home a burger to my wife, which was also cooked perfectly. It's a fun old-fashioned place to go to. Lots of animal heads on the walls and cowboy type things. This is in the old Sizzler right off the freeway and just into Oregon. They are owned by the same people as Indian Creek steak in Caldwell. Happy hour and lunch prices are very good, dinner prices can easily be $50 or more. their happy hour runs until 6 o'clock every day, which is great.

What a cute place to find in the sleepy Saturday night town of Payette!…read more Downtown Payette is what Caldwell once looked like before investors went in and built more businesses. The streets are dark and very few places are open and that makes me sad because this could be such an adorable old town downtown vibe for locals! So don't miss this restaurant towards the end of Main Street and then hop across the street to Hammer Time for family fun with axe throwing! El Kamaron has done a great job with their interior decor, seating layout, has a full bar, and an extensive menu that includes quite a bit of seafood options! It's the Torres Mariscos that sold me on trying this place and it didn't disappoint! This is a menu item that you'd see regularly in a beach town in Mexico like in Nayarit, MX! It was loaded with shrimp, octopus, and crab. I was so excited to just eat the meats that I didn't even want crackers or chips. Just let me feast on the meats with the avocado, cucumber, onion and tomato and I'm in heaven! I'll be back for this item alone! I also ordered a holiday specialty drink called the cranberry Paloma and I loved it. It was beautifully presented with a dehydrated orange slice and floating cranberries with a Chamoy and Tajin rim. I tossed my straw to the side so I could enjoy each sip with the rim! The staff ate so lovely and friendly with smiles and always ask how you're doing and if you need anything! You order at the table but pay at the bar counter closest to the door. There were two birthday celebrations going on and each birthday baby (adults in their 60's) received a cute colorful shot in a champagne flute and the entire restaurant sang to them. It was an enjoyable experience!
