We camped for the eclipse and had the most wonderful time here. Everyone is so welcoming, from the staff to the regulars to Ron himself. We felt like family from the minute we walked into the tasting room. We did a tasting Sunday when we got there so we had a few favorites picked out when we ordered by the glass or bottle at the party Monday. They were always willing to give you a splash to help you decide too! The grounds are so beautiful and peaceful and the wine is good! The Tempranillo, Pinot Noir and Amalgamation blend were a few standouts!

While this winery was picked because it was on the wine trail passport, it was my favorite of the day. We ended up enjoying the tastings so much that we got a bottle of one of the wines to sit and relax and ordered a few other bottles to go. Bottles were really well priced vs other places. The outdoor patio was open (good for social distancing) and there were lots of other friendly people enjoying their own glasses of wine while soaking in the vineyard view. What makes this place truly memorable? The service here was hands down the best.

Stopped in for a quick tasting on our wine lovers passport. The area was cute but it was probably our least favorite of the wines we tried all of the tour. Don't want to give a bad review just because of a difference in personal taste.

How have I have reviewed this place yet?!? We have been members for I think 3 years now. And every experience they go above and beyond. Dan is always pouring wine behind the bar and for some reason this place feels like family. They are knowledgeable, friendly and in my opinion take care of their members. This is one of the two wineries we are members of and I don't see us ever dropping it for any reason. Dan, Barry and the whole crew are just incredible people and take care of their customers! We make it a point to make reservations every time we see back in Fredericksburg. We are already planning our next trip back! Cheers Justin

We greatly enjoyed our tasting here with Gabrielle. Because we arrived at opening on a Tuesday morning we were the only ones doing a tasting. That turned out to be a great thing! She was able to walk us through every wine in great detail. You could feel her passion for the entire wine making process, from planting to drinking. The wines were fantastic! We personally loved the GSM, Temp, and Grenache Rosé! The tasting rooms seems new and is very nice. It's a small winery and you can tell they deeply care about the process. Do yourself a favor and stop by!

We finally went for a visit on a recent trip to Fredericksburg. We were celebrating our anniversary and we found this winery and the team very good and friendly. Gabbi and Angelina were friendly and helpful answering our questions. Although it was busy they made sure they came around to check on us. We tried the tasting and ended up becoming members. We always support local estate grow wines and we're not disappointed. And Ron Yates is very involved in his winery and always takes time to say hello in his busy schedule. Looking forward to many more trips here.

I love this winery! It's a must visit!

Great find. Awesome set up, and one of the most informative tastings we've had in years. Looking forward to returning.

The knowledge without being pretentious was by far the best customer Service we received the whole time we were in Fredericksburg.

We were greeted at the door with a sample of sparkling Sauvignon blanc. Then I tried the Texas Riesling, Muscat and Sangria slush. They have some sweet wines and some dry wines. I preferred the dry. The sangria slush is popular as this is a little sweet and perfect for Texas summer days. I noticed they have special events. They have dungeon tastings. I met a group of friends who are Legacy members here and got the tour of the new Tent City which has glamping tents. Complete with showers, AC and heat. They looked sweet! I am one of the least outdoorsy person there is and I'm excited to stay in one. Back to the winery... I decided to do a tasting which included four red wines and two white wines. I liked the pacing between the rounds. it was a busy Memorial Day weekend and Michael (I think that was his name) was adept at making sure everyone had a drink in their hands while explaining the different varietals and the story of each wine. 12 Fires is also dog friendly so we got to pet some sweet dogs. We had a lovely afternoon and tried some excellent wines. The charcuterie plate is also worth getting to nosh on between tastings. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

As we chatted with the other party, we learned that Siboney Cellars makes a delicious Cuban Sandwich. Will definitely come back to give that a try. As part of the Passport wine tasting, we were offered 4 different wines plus a small food pairing including toasted Cuban bread, Spanish Chorizo, Brie, Onion Bacon Jam and homemade Fudge. Everything was delicious and wine so smooth. I don't normally like Rose Wine but Barbara (owner/wine maker) did a great job, for all their wines. We learned a lot about wines and the vineyard during the food and wine tasting. Mark was so informative and a wealth of knowledge. We felt so special during our visit. Even though I have hundreds of bottles of wines at home, I left with 3 bottles. If you have not been, you should definitely stop by. In fact, there will be another Texas Wine passport event in late March to late April. We will definitely come back!!

If you enjoy a unique tasting experience in a unique setting and most importantly enjoy French…read moreinspired wine then do not pass up the opportunity to visit the Calais Winery/Cave in Hye. Calais Winery is easy to miss as it sits right off 290 between Johnson City and Fred. Look for the French Flag. The cave is an intimate setting and you are surrounded by their French Oak wine barrels. It is cool in there. We learned during our private tasting that they have been producing their limited production wines since 2008. The winemaker is a French-born engineer-turned-winemaker, Benjamin Calais. Even though the wine is produced using Texas grapes Calais uses old school French traditions when producing his wines. Our tasting included their Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and even a Rose'. The Left and Right Bank Bordeaux rivaled any Cab that we have sampled in Fred or Napa. The 2020 Gravitas red blend was an absolute joy to sample and it was one of the wines that traveled home with us. From their best harvests they select the 10 best barrels in the winery and produce Gravitas. It is unbelievably complex and if you enjoy a fuller than full bodied wine you will love Gravitas. Check out their website for a detailed description. Do make reservations as they are booked even on the weekdays.
