These are some of the best wines I have had in Texas. They are made with 100% Texas grown grapes. The tasting room is beautiful and they recently added a large seating area where you can enjoy a glass of wine and light bites. The quality of the wine speaks for itself. The staff was great. Stopped by this place right before closing time. We were lucky enough to be able to do a tasting. The Rose and Tempranillo were the best out of the 4 we tasted. The tasting was $15. They have a cute patio where you can bring your dog. You can also bring outside food to enjoy with your glass of wine. They do sell local bread. Great place. We have been coming here for years and continue to enjoy. We brought our dog with us this time and really enjoyed an outdoor tasting. The wines as always are tasty and reasonably priced. Beautiful property, plenty of room to space out, and following covid protocols. We called to make a reservation but got their voice mail. Doug Lewis and Duncan McNabb are among the younger wine makers in Texas, but are rising the bar in making quality, well structured, Texan wine. Their tasting pavilion is now open and tastings are by appointment only. The tasting pavilion is beautiful, open, and overlooks one of their vineyards planted in 2014. They have several acres of vineyards on site. You can taste the current releases for $15. The tasting is refunded if you purchase two bottles. The bottle prices here compared to other Texas wineries are decent. They make wines sourced from 100% Texas grapes. I like how their wines showcase terroir driven single vineyard wines. They focus on Mediterranean varitels. Lewis makes one of my favorite Texas white wines, Swim Spot. I wish they would can that wine so I could drink it while floating on an intertube. I also like that currently their tasting menu shows the different styles of Tempranillo from different Texas Vineyards.You can really taste how the different terroir influences the varietal. This is a great way to experience how the nauances of a growing environment affects the wine. The staff are friendly. They are not 100% familiar with the production of the wine. But, can give you some highlights while tasting. Book in advance as they are well known and can fill up for weekends several days in advance. read more

Leaving 2 stars: one for the atmosphere, they had a nice patio area outside that allowed us to enjoy the shade and still social distance, and 1 for the server who was pretty entertaining. I didn't really care for the wines. They had a bunch of roses which were mediocre. Not sure if that was them trying to find their niche. The reds were okay but nothing I would pay for for the price they were charging. One thing we were disappointed in was they charged $25 for an online reserved "tasting with bites" but when we got there it was basically just a tasting and we had to pay extra for food. They had a sandwich that was pretty tasty but was out of their sourdough bread. There tasting included maybe about 7 wines but I'm not sure if that was also because our server allowed us to try a few more. Didn't think it was worth $25 so I was surprised to find that the tasting "without bites" wasn't cheaper. I can go find better tasting wines for cheaper down the road... like at signor. I'll pass next time and try a different winery. read more

Hot damn, I love this winery! They've only been open a few years, and have moved from a small tasting room into a large covered patio with comfortable furniture, big fans, and lights strung about the porch and trees creating a great modern design meets Texas Hill Country ambiance. We most recently went out for their Rose Release Party. The event was fantastic with a full patio, live music, and dogs playing in the field outside the vineyard. This winery is less than an hour from Austin, moderately priced, and fantastic for all occasions. Just make sure to call ahead to book a tasting, and you won't be disappointed. They've been bottling grapes from around Texas for the past couple years, and I'm excited to see them finally get their vineyard matured and bottled soon! read more

We visited during a busy time when the cold temps arrived near Halloween and the staff were very friendly & they made room in the tasting room so you wouldn't be outside freezing. Read 4.5 stars. I have only been here once, but I know this place is going to grow on me. Stopped in 15 minutes before closing time on Labor Day without a reservation, and they were very sweet to allow me a tasting anyway. $15 tasting for 6 wines, tasting fee waived if you purchase two bottles. Which I did. One summery white and one Mourvèdre. The prices were quite fair compared to competitors and the quality was there. The Merlot was absolutely the star, but I was feeling too economical that day to buy it at $46-ish a bottle. The patio is beautiful and feels secluded. The hospitality was great and it was a very chill atmosphere. It did not feel like a tourist trap, which is so valuable to me. I'm so glad they treated me well on this inaugural visit because now they have a devoted customer for many years to come. Cheers! read more

Lewis Wines has opened their tasting room since our last visit and it only enhanced the experience as they retained all of their other qualities from before. Servers are still knowledgeable about their wine and winery; wines are still very good; and now you have a very nice area (indoor and outdoor) to taste. As always, tasting is a unique experience so not everyone will agree about their quality of wines. The best thing from all of this is there are more wineries popping up to challenge Lewis. Now everyone wants to raise the bar to deliver the best wine tasting experience possible. It is great to be a wine lover! read more

A definite up-and-comer in the Texas wine scene. All of their wines are 100% sourced from Texas, and their own Estate grapes are organic. The care turns up in the wines. The whites are impressive, especially the Chenin Blanc and Viognier, which are balanced in acidity and feature bright tropical fruits. Among the reds, their Tempranillo is medium bodied and has mild tannins sure to age well. The winemaker's touch is light and allows the strength of the terrior to come though. The small production facility is currently doubling as the tasting room, but I love seeing the process. Its' views are among the best on the Texas wine trail, so pull up a seat at a picnic table outside, bring some cheese, and enjoy excellent wine! read more

I hate to spread the word, but this place is great. One of the best Texas Wineries I've visited. Rose' wines were very good Chien Blanc was crisp, dry and a great choice. The Reds were all excellent as well. Several of the reds will need some time in the bottle to mature, or a good hour or more decant before drinking. read more

Found these folks via word-of-mouth from a few folks in the local wine business. In the last year, they've expanded their tasting room substantially, though they remain "by appointment" at present. The current wine lineup is very Tempranillo-centric, and while there's much to be said and appreciated about this varietal in Texas, don't expect to find a large variety of wines here (the other two on the current lineup are a vinho-verde style white and a Newsom Cabernet). I must mention here that their flagship Round Mountain wines (and probably some library selections as well) are available for bottle purchase. The servers here have all been knowledgeable and provide a bit of wine education along with the pours. read more

Let me say, we aren't super wine snooty but we like wine (in the past our favorites here have been William Chris and hilmy). Upon leaving my husband said "I am legitimately concerned this place has ruined wine for me." The whites were mediocre, but we aren't huge white drinkers. The reds were all cloudy and had a lot of sediment in them. I usually gladly drink whatever is placed in front of me. Nope not here. Our server was nice and polite and brought us blankets (which was the most awesome part of the experience... Seriously, that was a phenomenal customer service idea). However, the quality of wines was really subpar. I wouldn't recommend making the trek out here. The only truly drinkable red was a 100% cab that they didn't have on the tasting menu of the day. Friends and I spent an afternoon with the wine maker of Lewis Winery Duncan McNabb. Duncan a co owner with Doug Lewis add a special attention to detail, personal touch, and the fact they only use 100% Texan grapes they have a winner on their hands. For being a young winery 5 years old they have been proven themselves to be a winery to be reckoned with. There Swim Spot in 2013 received recognition for White Wine of the Month. It was refreshing and delicious! There 2012 Newsom Tempranillo was smooth and I can't wait after it has been in my cellar for a yeast will probably blow my socks off. You need an appointment to visit this winery so give them a call. I promise you will not be disappointed. read more
