Oakport Cafe is a great diner style cafe located near in East Oakland near the Coliseum. My coworkers love this place, they rave about the soups and sandwiches. You can call in your order, or go on their website to pay ahead. I have tried their chef salad, and it is delicious. Salads these days can be pretty busy, this is an old school chef salad with lots of protein. I hear the daily specials are great, in particular the meatloaf. We have it recommended by the people that were here and they were on .100% was an amazing sandwich. Even my wife loved it and she's a very picky eater. Usually cafe's are expensive and not very good. This is NOT the case for Oakport Cafe !! The entire building smell so delicious I had to go inquire. The staff was friendly, the service was FAST, and the restaurant was CLEAN. I ordered the chili cheese dog, and a Caesar slather chili was made fresh, and it was the most beautiful Caesar salad I have ever seen. There was so much food I had leftovers for dinner, and it was priced fair. I will definitely go back the next time I am in Oakland, and you should too !! read more

Trash! Trash! Trash! 1st time working in this area, unfortunately. Saw this café was nearby, went in and ordered a breakfast burrito with an iced coffee. I faxed in a 17 Sandwich order and once they called me back to verify that everything was okay they were off creating these sandwiches. The sandwiches were supposed to be ready at 11AM and they got done by 10:40AM. When I got there my order was ready, I was in and out in 3 mins. Sandwiches, I can only tell you about the one that I ate. I got the Club House and it was really good and filling. It comes with Jalapenos so if you don't want it hot tell them. They serve everything from soups and sandwiches, to specialty items like bbq ribs and other foods you wouldnt expect from a cafe. The food is good, but the price is high for the type of food you get. A basic sandwich is 5 bucks. Its nothing special, just cheese and meat on two slices of bread. The sandwiches taste good, but not 5 bucks good. They have a daily special thats usually better, like spaghetti or soups. Those are usually worthwhile, but still, for the price, not quite what you'd expect. So glad this place is in my work building, it's a life saver. I have two small kids and often forget to pack a lunch or don't have time too. Everything they offer here is fresh. Also, I'm very picky with cleanliness. They are VERY CLEAN. I trust what I'm eating is the way I would prepare it myself. I go here almost once a week. It is walking distance from my office. Compared to the deli in my building, this place gets 4 stars. The sandwiches have the perfect amount of ingredients. They also have special of the day. Some specials are lasagna, spaghetti, spicy bulgogi beef... I typically stay with the sandwiches, but the specials are tasty as well. They also offer breakfast which I haven't had. The owners are nice too. They get 4 stars because of the quality relative to other delis. Of course it's no upscale place, but it will do. read more
