Great dentist. They saw me quickly and even apologized even though I only waited about 10 minutes. The hygienist was great and efficient. She let me put on Netflix on the TV and went to work. Very pleasant and quick. She let me know that I grind my teeth and mentioned that I might benefit from a night guard. She even let me know there are non prescription options that I could try. I've always known I've needed one but never felt comfortable enough with a dentist to do it but I took the plunge with Park Slope Dentistry. The dentist was very friendly and personable. I went to this dental office a few years ago when I first moved to Brooklyn. I hadn't been to the dentist in about a year so I was in desperate need of a cleaning. After my cleaning and x-ray I was told I had 8 cavities!!! 8!!! I was totally shocked since I take really good care of my teeth and have only had 2 filling in my entire life. I couldn't believe that my teeth had deteriorated that much in 1 year. They tried to schedule an appointment for the following week to have all the fillings done on the same day. I was a little suspicious because I was asked by at least 3 people in the office if I had dental insurance plus I had absolutely no pain...in my experience, if you have a cavity it hurts like hell so if I had 8 I think I would have been in agony! Needless to say I got a second opinion before I had my mouth filled with mercury. It took me 6 months to schedule an appointment with another dentist. Guess how many cavities they found?.....ZERO!!! I came here with a groupon for cleaning, x-rays and check up. Everyone in the office was very nice and there was no problem with the groupon. I think it's unfair that some people gave this place only 1 star because they didn't bother to read the fine print. I cannot comment on Dr. Teichman. I was seen by another dentist called Dr. Pollack (sp?) She was thorough, knowledgeable and very friendly. She didn't try to push any procedures and told me my teeth were in excellent shape. There was some waiting involved, but only 5 min in the waiting room and another 10 on the exam chair. The hygienist was thorough and gentle and explained the condition of my gums and how to better manage them. Dr. Freking is amazing! Very patient, professional, has a gentle touch and a heart of gold! Not to mention, one of the best dentist! Not only has she treated me for fillings, root canals and other dental treatment. In addition, I also had Botox treatment in my TMJ region since I clench at bedtime. I wished I found Dr. Teichman sooner! After going to the same dentist for 10+ yrs in Manhattan, I discovered this dental office because I had to get a cleaning and couldn't trek into the city. Not sure why I didn't switch 5 years ago when we first moved to Park Slope. Long story short, I ended up transferring my files to Dr. Techman's office after my first initial visit. First, the front desk staff (Renee and Lisa) are always super helpful and friendly. The dental hygienist was very gentle during my cleaning and told me some new cleaning tactics that I now practice everyday. I had some fillings done with Dr. Teichman. I HATE getting dental work done but he has great bedside manners and was very gentle with the procedure. He's also a super nice guy and easy to talk to. This review is specifically aimed at people who have an HMO dental plan as opposed to a PPO, or uninsured customers. So, like a number of my professional peers, I knew my company's dental plan wasn't stellar; but only when I parted ways with a dentist in Chelsea and was then repeatedly denied access to every dentist my friends recommended did I realize just how big of a difference those three letters mean in this city when it comes to health care. I quickly discovered that the HMO, while admittedly better than having no dental insurance at all, severely limited my options to offices that seemed like extensions of the DMV-- crazy waits, archaic and a bit unkempt, and with staff who looked like they hated every minute of their jobs and lives. One dentist spent a two hour plus procedure communicating with me only in grunts! It was so discouraging that I was thisclose to saying "to hell with it, from now on I'll just pay full price at an office that gets decent reviews." Then a flyer for Dr. Teichman's office showed up in my mailbox one day, specifically naming my insurance provider and promising, "we take it!" I didn't want to get my hopes up, but any wariness I had evaporated the minute I walked into his office and was greeted warmly by his receptionist, the hygienists, and the dentists themselves. I've only been worked on by Dr. Ho and Dr. Plotnick, who are wonderful, but Dr. Teichman has always smiled and said hello to me in passing. Everyone in this office is friendly, talkative, knowledgeable, and great at what they do. As for the costs: I have NEVER been given any doom-and-gloom prognoses or was pressured into undergoing any immediate procedures my wallet couldn't handle here. Yeah, if your teeth aren't great and it has been a few years since you've seen a dentist, chances are good you're going to have cavities and maybe even need a root canal--that's just common sense. Barring pain, there's also no reason you can't hold off on some of them or go get a second opinion, and the dentists here have always made it very clear that they're able to accommodate on those fronts instead of trying to shake you down. If getting "ripped off" means compassionate dentists and hygienists performing amazingly proficient work using state-of-the-art technology, fine by me. I would rather come here and leave feeling reassured and well taken care of rather than saving a few bucks getting grunted at elsewhere. Also, in a month or two I'll be hopping on my husband's PPO dental plan, which will give me a lot more options than I currently have; and you know what? I'm staying put. read more

We have had nothing but positive experiences with Dr. Teichman and his staff. I hate everything about going to the dentist- odd, since I have had very little dental work done in my lifetime- and both Dr. T and the hygienist totally put me at ease. Unlike other dentists I have seen, no one has tried to push whitening or other seemingly unnecessary procedures on me; in fact, when I asked about getting a custom night guard for snoring, Dr. T insisted I first see my physician to rule out sleep apnea. I have been a patient of Dr. Teichman's for nearly the entire time I have lived in Park Slope- almost 15 years. At the time, dentist in Manhattan closed up a root canal in spite of the fact that something was clearly wrong, and I was in pain for months. Dr. Teichman re-did the work, and corrected the problem. He is up on the latest technology and does everything he can to make going to the dentist as stress free as possible. Recently I broke a tooth, and Dr. Teichman worked with me to get the situation resolved (a new crown) within the very limited free time I have dictated by my totally insane work schedule. Dr. Ho, who also works in the office is excellent as well. Finally, I cannot say enough good things about Denise, the hygenist there. I work my schedule to meet hers. She is amazing! This is not bargain rate dentistry, but worth every penny. And really what good dentist in this town is cheap? None that I know of... read more

It's a simple, clean office, full of art prints, with friendly staff and techs. I had a good cleaning, a good conversation with Dr Teichman about the state of things, and scheduled my next cleaning (and filling, oops). So glad to have found them! Came to this practice through Groupon. I was immediately seen by very friendly reception staff. The woman who cleaned my teeth (I believe her name was May) was kind, informative, and thorough. I can not comment on Dr. Ronald I. Teichman as he was not the one to see me. I was seen by Dr. Jennifer Plotnick, D.M.D. She was extremely cheery, lighthearted and welcoming, but always professional and knowledgeable. All of the staff effectively communicated the details of my visit in layman's terms. Not once did they push any future visits or procedures in any aggressive manner. I plan to continue being a patient due to this extremely pleasant experience! Their cleaning/check-up/x-rays price is quite reasonable for someone who has no insurance like myself. I absolutely love this office. After suffering for years and years with a horrible dentist, I found this place and never looked back. Dr. Plotnick is my dentist and she is awesome at what she does. They're so nice. I went to a different dentist two months ago for intense pain and they had me pay $300 for a night guard and a shrug. I returned because of more pain and they adjusted the night guard and sent me away again. Decided to try a new dentist (PSD7th) and they immediately found the infection and gave me a plan for a root canal or dental implant, depending . I also really loved how sympathetic they are about financial constraints. They've never lost patience when I've asked a million questions about every price point and the timing to get my money together etc. They always offered to answer questions and seemed genuine, never rushed me through them, but like actually answered them lol which seems so basic but so many doctors and dentists i have seen just wanna get it over with and don't care. The front staff/techs are so fantastic too. They know me when i call and make me feel welcome and taken care of. They talk to me like a person and not just a patient they have to deal with. I went to see Dr. Teichman because of a groupon including x-rays and cleaning, which is helpful for those of us without dental insurance. I waited for about twenty minutes in the lobby, and then waited about thirty more minutes in the chair for my hygienist. They were very friendly about it, and didn't like to keep me waiting, but that's what happened. The cleaning was very thorough. No complaints there. And the x-ray machine was pretty cool. Dr. Teichman showed me on my x-rays all the "problem spots" I had, and said he would need to do one filling based on the x-ray, and that it would cost about $350. The hygienist doing my cleaning also tried to sell me some type of antibiotic injection for my gums at $50. When I went home to San Francisco about a month later I made an appointment with my at-home dentist, who I have known and trusted for years, to fill my cavity (which, by the way, he charges $175 for). I told him the tooth number, and he couldn't find the cavity. He took x-rays, and still couldn't find the cavity. He said I didn't need anything for my gums either. So, I went home. There is always the possibility of a difference in opinions, but I could have been out $400 for unnecessary work if I had followed Dr. Teichman's advice. Be wary. read more

I have had a TON of dental work done here. I highly recommend Dr. Plotnick. I had been so worried about my teeth since I got some huge metal cavities when I was very young. They have always been problematic for me since the fillings were VERY deep. She basically laid out a treatment plan for the whole future of my dental needs, which was, yes, frightening to see - but it was also really relieving to have someone who finally took the time to lay all the cards on the table - and plan out my future with me. The metal fillings were so deep and big that no dentist can actually tell whether or not there is a cavity - which after years of having them apparently the metal shrinks and leaves tiny spaces in which cavities most definitely will form. I knew this was the case, but no dentist ever really told me the truth, that if i didnt replace them now - root canals (or worse - which has already been the case for one of them) were most certainly in my future. Other dentists I have gone to simply fix the obvious problem, and don't take the time to tell you of preventative care so I won't have to pay for all implants in the future which can cost $5000 a piece! While the price of filling replacements was a hard pill to swallow - I know I've saved myself a LOT of money and a LOT of pain in the future. They have great technicians who are very gentle when taking X-rays and everyone in general is incredibly friendly and accommodating. I saw Dr Plotnick many times and you can tell she is an excellent dentist. They are pricey, which can be scary - but they'll tell you the reality of costs. It's really worth it to have a great dentist do your work - I have complete confidence in the longevity of her work - she even fixed some things that my previous dentist screwed up a little. All of my appointment have taken a long time, but it is just because she is METICULOUS. I've had several root canals and none have fit so seamlessly as the ones I got here. The cost was hard for me, but I really felt the difference of getting top notch care. I don't write reviews often, but I love this place. First of all, they do checks for oral cancer during every cleaning because they feel it's their moral responsibility since no one else will do that for you basically until you notice something is wrong. I made an appointment for a cleaning and when they realized I was also due for a screening and dental exam they quickly found time to get me in while I was there. They found a small cavity and were able to fill it while I was there. The staff is super friendly and they always recommend good food in great detail when I ask, which is every time. Unlike most people, I dislike having metal rods and foreign instruments jammed into my mouth. I know, call me crazy. However, after moving often all of my adult life and seeing 7 dentists in that time, I can say with certainty that Park Slope Dentistry is the bestest. You say bestest isn't a word? That's because your dentist pales by comparison. Dr. Teichman is the senior dentist there - super straightforward and knowledgeable. Dr. Plotnick is a true professional - nothing short of gentle, informed, and witty. This is customer service at its highest level. I have never waited more than 15 minutes to be seen, they had me back to make a minor adjustment to my new (and very necessary) crown, and they did everything they could to make sure my insurance covered everything they recommended -- no big bills, no add-ons. I can't comment on Dr. Teichman, but I had another dentist, I think she was Dr. Ho, and she was great. I also used the Groupon deal, but she didn't try to push any other services on me. In fact, she mentioned I could get a teeth guard to protect my teeth from grinding at night, but she recommended, instead of buying one from them, to try a cheaper, over-the-counter one first. I loved my trip to Park Slope Dentistry. I never met Dr. Teichman, but I did have an amazing hygienist (Pat, I believe), an awesome xray technician and Dr. Ho, who gave me an incredible dental exam. I went to PS Dentistry because of the Groupon, and because my husband couldn't stop raving about his time there. I must tell you that I agree with him - this place is awesome. I wish I knew about it sooner. My last cleaning at my (now former) dentist was about 2-3 minutes tops. At this office? 45 minutes. I purchased a Groupon because my dentist who I have seen for the last 6 years here in New York is moving back to California. I didn't know where to begin to look for a new dentist, but a friend had said she had a great experience with this dental clinic so I decided to buy the groupon and give it a try. Everything from start to finish was professional and pleasant. The receptionist was a sweetheart and my hygienist was great. Unlike some of the other groupon reviews, I found Dr Teichman to be great and very fair. I was almost expecting for him to find something wrong that needed to be fixed, but he said that other than one old filling that could be fixed down the line, everything looked great. I was shocked that even though I wasn't paying top dollar, everyone still spent time with me and didn't try to sell me services or procedures that were not necessary. I went ahead and bought my boyfriend the same groupon, since he too needs a new dentist after our dentist moves and he had the same great experience as I did. The only thing I can think of from some of the other reviewers is that some patient wait way too long to go to the dentist, so when they finally go into the clinic and hear they need some work, they might blame the office or dentist instead of realizing that neglecting their teeth or old work could be the culprit. I didn't think Dr Teichman was going to suggest a ton of procedures for me because my teeth are in fairly good shape, but being that I have had a lot of work done in the past, I thought there would most likely be some things that needed fixing or updating. What a pleasant surprise only one suggested filling was recommended, but with no sense of urgency. I will be back and in fact already scheduled my next cleaning! They also work with different insurances and those who do not have insurance which is great. Environment- clean, beautiful Staff-very friendly, professional and respectful This is my 2nd visit to this office, first visit i was in so much in pain . As soon as I walked in and noticed that i was in pain, they rushed me inside, they numb it for me quickly, doc so sympathetic and caring! As a nurse, i know Pain Is a priority and so glad and appreciative that they made me a priority and took care of my pain , in less than 10min from the time when i walked in. Wait was only 20 minute! I did cleaning and filling about 1hr and 1/2 total and mind you i only went for cleaning but it turns out my filling was chipping away so done and done beautifully right away!! I absolutely found my forever dentist, !!! I highly recommend!!! FYI, if you are driving , street parking available for 1 hr only, so needed to go back out to fill the meter, even that they told me no problem, i had to go out midway of my procedure! After not going to the dentist for about 5 years, my anxieties were immediately taken away by the friendly atmosphere alone. Dr. Plotnick and staff were nice and understanding. A couple of problem areas were indicated with a super high tech xray (so cool) and I never felt pressured to get anything "extra" that a few other reviewers allegedly experienced. Let me begin by saying that if giving zero or negative stars was an option, I would do it for this place. BIGGEST SCAM EVER! I bought a groupon for a cleaning and after being left to wait for nearly 20 minutes in the waiting room and another eternity in the dentist's chair, I was finally seen. Then after a decent cleaning, I was told that I had 3 cavities. Obviously I freaked out as I've never had a cavity before and I pride myself on having the cleanest teeth around. When I called back to make an appointment for my fillings, I asked for an estimate of the costs...they told me it would be about $1500!!!!! Of course, I called up my old dentist and made an appointment with her. After about 5 failed attempts at getting Park Slope Dentistry to hand over my records and two arguments with Dr. Teichman's receptionist, I come to find out that I have zero cavities and that Dr. Teichman was about to drill into my perfectly good teeth for an absurd price. Possibly the worst dentist ever. Oh, and did I mention that my roommate bought a groupon as well and he told her that she had nine cavities?!?! I was in excruciating pain for two days, and after calling another local place that didn't have an appointment for a week, I was able to get in the same day here. I saw Dr. Plotnick, and she is absolutely lovely. I was a mess - literally crying in pain in the initial consultation - and she rushed me in and told me that I needed a root canal. She was great during the procedure as well. She was very encouraging, apprised me of exactly what she was doing, and was mindful of the clock because I told her I had to pick up my son at a set time. I had initially asked if I could use the groupon for a certain amount of the procedures and then pay more for the rest, and they told me no so I didn't go in with any false expectations. I only waited a few minutes to be seen and they were accommodating in setting up my followup cleaning and the second part of my root canal. read more

If you want to spend a great deal of money on work that may not even be necessary, Ronald Teichman is the dentist for you. This was my impression the first time I visited him a few years ago and it was my impression again when, because of his favorable reviews and his proximity to my home, I recently decided to give him another try. One example of what I mean: His hygienist told me quite strongly that I REALLY needed scaling. This came as a complete surprise as the previous dentist I saw in NC a year earlier had, like others before him, commended me on my at-home care and remarked on how little plaque there was for him to clean etc. On my way out of the office I saw Dr. Teichman and told him what a surprise it was given my dental history that all of a sudden my gums were in such a sorry state etc. He said something to the effect of "Well, better safe than sorry." When I said this wasn't a particularly satisfactory answer and told him I didn't want to have work done if it wasn't necessary, he said that he would "talk" to his hygienist about the issue and get back to me. I don't know what that was supposed to mean as I never heard from the office again. Just this week, 6 months after my visit to Dr. Teichman, I went to a dentist I trust in Manhattan, whom I'd stopped going to because he was so far away on the Upper East Side. I asked him to look carefully and see if he saw any signs that my teeth needed scaling. His answer: Absolutely not, no reason at all for that to be done, not even a hint of a cause. A second example: Dr. Teichman's charge to re-cement a crown that had come loose: $150! I could not believe my eyes. I asked about this and was assured that this charge was correct. A third example: Dr. Teichman's charge for periodic exam & prophylaxis (not including x-rays): $215. The cost for the same things at the dentist on the infamously expensive Upper East Side: $125. Believe me, unless you have great dental insurance that pays for everything, and it gives you pleasure to feel like you're receiving "Rolls Royce dental care" because it costs so much, and you love to sit through expensive dental procedures that do not need to be done, DO NOT GO TO DR TEICHMAN! read more

I first came in with a groupon about two years ago, and this has become my regular dentist office. I haven't seen Dr. Teichman himself, but saw Dr. Ho once and Dr. Plotnick once and they were both excellent! Both women, Dr. Ho and Dr. Plotnick, were very pleasant and each one took time to explain things and answer all of my questions. They didn't find any cavities, by the way. Also, the woman in charge of billing has been extremely helpful and kind, including giving me a big discount when I found out on arriving for my appointment that my insurance didn't include dentistry (doh!).
