My neck surgeon used Dr. Kvitne to fix his knee many years ago. He referred me to him when I had knee and shoulder trouble throughout the years. Recently I went back to Dr. Kvitne. He is absolutely the kindest, caring, most gentle spoken, not to mention the smartest doctor around. He diagnosed thoracic outlet syndrome, TOS. I had never even heard the name. 5-Star Excellent physician with incredible experience and skill. Resume is impressive. Besside manner is fantastic. Unfortunately he is in so much demand that follow-up and emergency rechecks are almost impossible unless you can wait over a month. I had an emergency issue - knee locking - and the scheduler couldn't help for over 3 weeks. Also - the clinic can't reschedule you until the physician 'releases' you - causing other logistical issues requiring multiple phone calls. Long and short - if you do get in to see him he's AWESOME - but access is an issue. read more

What a great doctor. I was really stressed out about my problem but Dr. Kvitne immediately inspired confidence and made me feel like I was in good hands. He takes a conservative approach and to my surprise did not recommend surgery. He was really, Really nice, not arrogant like some sports medicine doctors. He spent time with me and answered all my questions regarding my knee problem. His assistant (I think name was Justin) was really great too. Nobody rushed me and they were all very knowledgeable. I found Dr. Kvitne by asking around from various physical therapists in my area, turns out that was a good move. I was seen within ten minutes of my appointment time so no complaints there. I've had several orthopedic surgeons in the last 20 years, and Dr. Kvitne is the best yet. I saw Dr. Kvitne for my right shoulder pain to get a second opinion after my previous doctor wanted to cut (without even seeing an MRI!). Not only does he know his stuff, Dr. Kvitne has great "bedside manner" in terms of explaining everything, addressing any concerns, etc. He also wasn't keen to "cut first, ask questions later". He wanted to try things other than surgery before getting an MRI to make a final determination. In the end, my shoulder needed surgery ("decompression"), and it went well. One of the PT places his office recommended did a great job too (Physiotherapy Associates), and my recovery has been steady since the surgery 2 months ago. The people who work with and for Dr. Kvitne at the surgery center of Kerlan Job were great too. The fellow who did my anesthesia (an older Japanese American gentleman, whose name I forgot) did a really great job too. He called me the night before to explain the routine, and I followed all the procedures preparing for the operation over a week or two beforehand. During the day of my operation, the anesthesiologist was funny, comforting and seemed very competent. The nurse staff also did a great job, so I was quite happy with the entire experience, not only with Dr. Kvitne. Other friends of mine have used Dr. Kvitne, and have had similar, highly positive experiences. I highly recommend him. read more

I experienced a major rotator cuff tear... my ortho shopped my mri around town to see who could repair it via the arthroscope.... Dr. Kvitne said he could and WOW DID HE TAKE CARE OF ME!!! I have seen others with no way near the tear I experienced and they did not recover like I did... The best, the kindest, the most confident and skilled surgeon! Dr. Kvitne has performed 3 surgeries on me over the past 20 years. One knee (meniscus tear), and 2 shoulder surgeries due to dislocations, torn tendons, bone spurs, etc. Dr. Kvitne tried everything possible to keep me out of surgery this last time, but in the end, I pleaded with him and in his ever kind and calm manner, he agreed it was time. I am only 10 days out of surgery and it is clear that he did another one of his miracles. I was the driver of a motor vehicle, on August 6, 2006, stopped due to traffic on southbound I-5 in Los Angeles, when struck from the rear by an uninsured vehicle driven by a person with a suspended drivers license. The damage to my vehicle was $4,535.68, including, but not limited to replacement of the exhaust system, rear body panel, rear bumper reinforcement, rear bumper cover, rear bumper lower energy absorber and rear bumper upper energy absorber, and repair of the left quarter panel, right quarter panel, left quarter panel extension, right quarter panel extension and rear floor, and requiring repair from August 16, 2006 through September 14, 2006. The damage to the other vehicle was total. I injured my neck and right shoulder, requiring four neck surgeries and three shoulder surgeries. The third neck surgery resulted in permanent right vocal cord paralysis requiring two vocal cord surgeries, which were unsuccessful. My insurance carrier, through its legal counsel, retained Ronald S. Kvitne, M.D. at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic for an "INDEPENDENT MEDICAL EXAMINATION" and MEDICAL RECORD REVIEW." Dr. Kvitne reported "...it is apparent that surgical treatment was necessary for an underlying calcific rotator cuff tendinosis, and not the result of any injury he sustained following the 10 mph rear-end collision motor vehicle accident which took place on August 6, 2006. Any costs associated with the diagnostic work up, subsequent surgical treatment, and any post-operative rehabilitation that this patient may have received for his right shoulder pain complaints are also not felt to be necessary or indicated for the treatment of any injury he sustained as a result of the rear-end collision motor vehicle accident of August 6, 2006." I retained an attorney and arbitrated my claim on April 30, 2013 and May 1, 2013. The arbitrator reported "the consensus among all of his treating, examining, reviewing and surgeons is that all of the surgeries, procedures and consequences of those surgeries are directly and proximately caused by the accident herein. Dr. Kvitne's opinion of pre-existing degenerative disease is in direct contravention to the opinions of all of claimant's doctors, but he has testified that his treating and examining physicians, and surgeons, are among the most capable and well-respected doctors in their fields. There is no history of injury, extreme physical activity, degenerative illnesses or any other traumatic event that could account of the cervical and right shoulder complaints requiring multiple procedures and seven surgeries. It is axiomatic that one who causes injury, accepts the injured party in the physical condition of health as he or she exhibits just prior to the traumatic event." read more

Had knee surgery with Dr. Kvitne. Dr. is pleasant and has a good reputation. The problem is how the office is run. - Be ready to wait. I suffered a severe meniscus tear and needed immediate surgery. I knew there could be a wait so I scheduled the first appointment in the morning, at 7:30 AM. They instructed me to show up at 7:15 which I did. Still, I wait for nearly two hours to see the doctor at 9:15. - Be ready to deal with unprofessional, arrogant service. I schedule the surgery for a few days later. I am told that his assistant Jesse will call me within the next 24 hours to go over the pre-op. Jesse never calls. I email him, leave voicemails. No response. I finally get a hold of him a few days later and he responds with a terrible attitude. The same happens after the surgery. I am told Jesse will call me within 24 hours to check on me and go over post-op instructions. Again, it's been more than 48 hours and not a call from the doctor's office. I call Jesse and again he gives me attitude. - Be ready to be surprised by charges. I am instructed to call the facility, the anesthesiologist, and the doctor's office prior to the surgery to find out my co-pays. The facility and the anesthesiologist give me exact amounts of how much I will pay out of pocket. The doctors office says they're unable to give me an exact amount, and can only give me a range of what is typical. - Be ready to NOT see doctor Kvitne, but his PA (assistant) instead. I schedule my post op visit six weeks in advance. I called two days prior to confirm. When I show up I am told that I will not be seen by the doctor, but by his PA instead. Buyer be ware! read more

Dr. Kvitney performed my knee surgery in 2010. He is fabulous. I knew going in I had severe osteoarthritis a torn meniscus and my plica was hanging by a thread. It was supposed to be an eight week recovery but five days later I was walking no crutches at the county fair in LA. Dr. Kvitne performed a failed shoulder surgery on me in July 2015. He never acknowledged his error. When I met with him for the last time in September, 2015 he stated that he did not know what the issue was, that I might have a virus in my nerve (another doctor determined that the nerve was severed during the shoulder procedure) and he stated, on five (5) separate occasions during that visit that I "should be glad that I don't have cancer" in response to every inquiry I made. Dr. Kvitne permanently injured me, refused to acknowledge it and instead told me five (5) times how glad I should be that I didn't have cancer. The injury that he caused has has drastically affected my life and his only response to the errors that caused my permanent injury was that I should be glad that I don't have cancer, which is apparently his response when he causes injury and does not want to take responsibility. My problems have only gotten worse since then and I have been told by multiple other doctors that there is nothing that they can do for me so I have to live with Dr. Kvitne's error for the rest of my life. I got my left shoulder operated on 4 years ago and it feels like brand new. I had an old injury that kept getting worse and I finally went to see Dr. Kvitne. He was incredibly calm and never rushed me like most Dr's do these days. Being accomplished as he is, one would think you would just be a number in and out the door. Five stars! Excellent doctor, service and staff. Dr. Kvitne and his staff fit me in their schedule with a very short notice. My knee had been bothering me for awhile and I wanted to go to the best. Dr. Kvitne did a thorough exam of my knee and I was in and out of his office with a diagnosis in a few minutes. I was relieved to hear I had patellar tendonitis and would be better within a few weeks with PT ; no surgery was necessary. After hearing this great news, I iced and stretched my knee. Dr. Kvitne, performed surgery on me to repair a massive tear to my right shoulder rotator cuff. The arthroscopic surgery included the, fixing the tear with suture anchors, removal of bone spurs, arthritis etc.The surgery was performed at the Kerlan Jobe orthopedic surgery in Los Angeles Ca., last week on 04/02/15. My recuperation is going very well, and have started physical therapy. Dr. Kvitney is kind, has an excellent bed side manner and is reputed to be one of the best surgeons in the world for this type of procedure. The facility, staff at Kerlan Jobe are very helpful, and very professional. 1)arthroscopic surgery that didn't help probably made things worse. 2) second surgery for capsule release, which was painful and long recovery with two huge scares, was determined by two other docs (outside of kerlan jobe so they could be honest) as not unnecessary.. Dr Kvitne is overly flippant and creepily sweet and arrogant. He told me prior to 2nd surgery he had a 100% success rate for this particular surgery and I would have normal movement again. Of course, after no success and my complaints that how he barely saw me afterwards or seem not interested any medical after care equipment for me to help (which is one of the most important aspect of your healing and recovery says ever single professional journal on this planet) swelling or PT, and seem uninterested there is no improvement and a lot of pain. When I questioned his doctoring skills (in the nicest way possible) of how this was not working and I felt ignored, he was very upset I dared to criticize him (well it's my body!). And then gave me a 180 response after the fact and said that it was a difficult surgery and I may need more to fix it (yeah and it wasn't need anyway so he thinks I need another one again???WTF?!) So this 100% success rate Bullsh**t answer was just that bulls**t to get me to do the surgery (so he could make money?) and then he has all sorts of answer why it didnt work. I believe any doctor who lies to a patient like that should have his license pulled. I this is my body and I made an important major surgical decision based on a flippant lying responses by him. Not I have two huge scars on either side of my leg for no good reason, lots of scaring in my knee area unnecessarily and it resulting in me getting a total knee replace (by a decent ortho, not dr kvitne!) because all the damage this doctor did to my knee. On top of that this doctor left a huge stictch in my leg and a year later my new ortho had to pull it out. It hurt like crazy and it ws 2 feet long!!! I recall seeing the tip of the blue stitch sticking out and he told me another bullsh*t story that he left it in on purpose. Wow, does he think so little of his patience intelligence to believe that whopper? In short, he is quick to make decisions without careful review, he lies to you about his success rate, and therefore you can't trust him. ON top of that he spends all of 5 minutes on you to make any decision on your body with promises to call or get you this and that and NEVER does or follows up. He's a horrible, awful ortho. My suggestion? Get a SECOND opinion from a doc not in the kerlan jobe clinic. Dr Bruce from NBC who I met recently said kerlan jobe clinic is overrated anyway. If you're a high paid professional athlete, then I would guess you would be treated well but this doc and clinic is not the place to go. It's all hype and no substance and frankly based on my personal experience not good for your health. read more

Had partial tears of MCL, ACL, and PCL in right knee. Dr. Kvitne took the time to hear my objectives, concerns, and didn't rush me to surgery. He put me on an aggressive physical therapy regimen which helped substantially. Would recommend him to everyone - serious athletes, weekend warriors, those young and old. Dr. Kvitne at Kerlan Jobe is wonderful.!!!I If I could give him six stars I would. I had a workman's comp injury that had been delayed and forgotten from the insurance company. Once I was able to see Dr. Kvitne, I was able to get the needed surgery and am now on my way to recovery. Dr. Kvitne is kind, gentle, thorough and has a great bedside manner. He is so easy to talk to and makes you feel confident you will get better. I had both a torn meniscus and a twisted meniscus repaired. My surgery and recuperation was almost pain free. He is wonderful and explains everything. HE IS AMAZING!! In addition, Justin Baker is Dr. Kvitne's assistant. He is competent and follows up on everything. The insurance company really gave me the run around. Justin was prompt answering my emails and phone calls to straighten things out. Lastly Kerlan Jobe is a great facility to have surgery. Dr Ronald Kvitne is an excellent Doctor, he is great ! He done my ankle surgery 32 years ago, at Centinela Hosiptal. I broke my Filbula bone after running through my patio and falling on my kids toy. I went to Dr Kvitne after trying to work at LAX thinking my food was only sprung. I think he had a Satilite clinic close to the airport when I first saw him. He examine me and told me I had a broken Filbula bone. He told me that he had an open slot that he could do the surgery the next morning at 9am. Fast service (smile) He told me that the surgery will repair the broken bone and the way it will heat that I will not have to worry about arthritis. Here it is 2018, 32 years later no problems. Dr Kvitne I was the guy that had surgery before the Dodgers Pitcher, Oral Hershiser had his surgery. You could not believe that I did not recognize him.
