Horribly overpriced repairs and check your stones if you bring something in to be sized.

I had a silver figaro chain, where I broke the small circular link that attaches the back of the clasping mechanism to the rest of the chain. Ron took less than 2 minutes to repair it for FREE $0.99!! It didn't even cost me a dime. That was totally unexpected!! I was grateful and thankful for the curtesy. Just purchased a new ring from Ron's in Park Plaza. Difficult to choose from their excellent selection, but finally settled on a floating spessorite garnet in an 18k setting with diamond chips in the band. Absolutely gorgeous!!! I can only speak on battery replacement but they've been handling my watches for over 20 years and the service is quick and efficient. The staff has always acknowledged me with a hello and is kind. First of all, Sid is just a really nice man. But his service is exemplary. Other times I've gone in for minor adjustments to rings or watches at no charge. This time, he resized my Rolex watch band and cleaned and polished my wife's diamond rings. I insisted that he charge me something. The charge was very reasonable. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS STORE! I asked the owner if he could suggest a silver cleaner for a medal I wear that tarnishes a lot. I have to clean it once a week. Instead, THE OWNER SUGGESTED re-coating it for $80. Not only did the "coating" cheapen the look of the medal (it actually LOOKED FAKE), but it also started TARNISHING AFTER ONLY ONE DAY. Since he had only made things worse he removed the coating. He said he wanted me to be happy. I asked for my $80 back and he said... "We did the work. You expect me to pay you out of my pocket?" Thief. When on 6th Street we took a ring in to get sized. MF gave it back sized but took it upon hiself to himself to do a little extra work by beveling the stone. It was a different stone. He traded ours for a cheaper stone. Hard lesson learned. Took it back again later, to Western. He won't even look at the ring anymore. I have to step away. I was very disappointed with the quality of the workmanship on a jewelry repair. I wanted a new safety catch put on one side of a bracelet. The other side had a very good safety catch made out of round gold wire. It lasted for many years. The second one was missing. Instead of matching to the same original quality, Ron's jewelers replaced it with a thinner, cheaper quality wire. Not only did it not match, because it was so thin, it fell off within one month of wear. This should have been done properly the first time. Their quality control is lacking. When I spoke with the owner, she wasn't even aware of how poorly the work was finished. The work was never checked. Take your fine jewelry elsewhere, if want it done right! read more

I have been stepping into Ron's for about 20 years. Usually to replace a battery in my watch. Occasionally to have something repaired. Once in a while to purchase a gift. This week, I needed to have 10 pair of scissors engraved. The owner, Lisa, went out of her way to make sure the scissors were done in a timely manner and helped me find an 11th pair when that became necessary. Whenever I am in Ron's, I have always been treated courteously, their prices are reasonable, and I am a satisfied customer. However, this last visit made me a customer for life. The help that I was given saved me hours of grief and running all over southern California to find what I needed. I certainly did not expect it and it was way and beyond "ordinary good service." I gave this business so many chances to correct their mistake, my last resort is writing this review to warn others not to trust them with their jewelry. One year ago I took an emerald earring in to have it made into a pendant. They never called me to say that it was ready, so I stopped by to check on the status. When I went in they couldn't find the piece. I was told to check back or call. I went in again a few weeks later and was told the same thing. It was always the same "Call in a few days." I went in probably 7 or 8 times, I never once received a call and I spoke with the same two people who each time. Finally in November (nine moths later!) they acknowledged that the emerald was lost and they offered to make me a replacement pendant. I was glad, however I haven't heard from them since and honestly I'm tired of calling and going in to try to get any kind of decent service. Their horrible service wore me out. I'm sad that my emerald is gone, and I'm very disappointed in the quality of service I received. Just don't go there is all I can advise. read more
