I would say the workers there at the time were helpful, funny, and made the experience tolerable. I guess it's convenient for downtown now that Regal has closed and Alamo is one of the next nearby options, but definitely do not come here expecting glitz and glam. It gets the job done if you just want to see a movie, but the overall experience definitely needs some updating.

This review may seem mostly critical, but that's because I really love the place and these issues stand out against the otherwise great experience. 1. I come here (and to to the Williamsburg location) regularly for anime screenings. I've noticed that the selections being shown lately at both locations are sometimes via low-quality video files from (I assume) torrent sites. The subtitles can be poorly positioned and contain formatting and spelling errors; the same type of positional and grammatical errors that occur when subtitles are converted directly from PGS to SRT with little to no extra formatting or QC passes. The video encodes are also sometimes poor quality. I noticed a while back that the Galaxy Express 999 showing had video that was aggressively smoothed over, destroying the finer details available from better sources. I know that movie well, so it was the first time I became really aware of the problem. The copies of some of these films I have at home look way better than the processed versions I'm paying to see in the theater, and that should never be the case. I can't imagine the Nitehawk staff are encoding these themselves, since if they had the source material they could just as easily just play the raw video files or encode at a really low CRF for much better results. And if they are downloading the films, they could instead pay the $20 for a Blu-ray or at least source higher quality encodes and subtitles, since these screenings are many people's only opportunity to see these movies in a theater. 2. The selection of films has been not great lately. This year, we had: The Dagger of Kamui, All You Need Is Kill, Urusei Yatsura 2, 100 Meters... these movies are not good. Some are awful. That said, we do get good stuff often! We get more good than bad. But these special screenings don't happen often (once a month, usually) and we've been on a losing streak lately so it's worth mentioning. 3. Theater 4 sucks. I saw a 4:3 movie there, which is already limiting the screen real estate, but the projectionist also closed curtain over part of the left side of the visible image. It stayed that way for the entire movie, and I was seated way over on the left so I was getting wrecked by it. On top of that, the projector in that theater seems of especially low quality, with an obvious screen door effect that distracts from the experience. Overall, I love the Nitehawk theaters. I definitely spend more money at those places than any other businesses, really. I just wanted to voice my disappointment with recent showings in the hopes that things will change, because traveling to Prospect Park (not close to me) to see a hand-picked movie that isn't good, is visually compromised, is poorly subtitled, and is being shown on a low quality projector with the screen partially covering it just bums me out. Hoping my review does some good in improving things, I guess. Looking forward to changing this to 5 stars this year if/when the above issues are resolved! These spots are still my homes away from home. The staff work their asses off and the food is rock solid. Don't let my bitching about anime screenings turn you off to seeing any other film there. My complaints are hyper specific, and odds are you aren't going there to see anime anyway.

I felt embarrassed and poorly treated, and I will not be returning.

The food ordering system is easy enough but I doubt I'd order food here again. If you have any specifications or requests for side items, they will likely not make it to you and here's no way to say, "Hey you forgot my side of marinara sauce" without making a big production out of it. So my side never did arrive nor did my friend's even though the server told each of us on separate occasions that our side would be coming out. My pizza was edible (mushroom/arugula) and appreciate the vegan options, but other than popcorn, I'm not sure ordering food is worth it unless you're desperately hungry (I hadn't eaten all day so that was my situation). A note on the snitch policy. They let you know at the beginning that you should text staff if someone is violating the no talking or texting rules. But hello, if that person is sitting close to you, they're going to know who the snitch bitch was. Other than that, a good movie experience and I love having the option to order a glass of wine to my seat. It's just one of life's little pleasures, movies, wine and popcorn.

As for the no talking rule, while people still respect the rule for the most part, there were some people next to me softly whispering at times that it made it hard to follow the film I was watching. There were people behind me that were shouting at the screen at inopportune times too. I thought about saying something to a fellow staff member, but let it go as the film I was watching was too good to be engrossed in other peoples' behavior. There was so much seating, at least 150 seats, and there is not reserved seating. The seats do not recline , but do have cup holders. Leg room was a bit tight. Sound was excellent , it is surround sound and the screen was clear. A great place to watch a movie.

I entered and two engineers or project managers? were speaking and I stated " Wow, this is really cool!". They smiled and said "This is Day 3 of the cinema opening". I was in a popcorn and soda mood, picked my snacks up at the Concession Stand and walked to my movie room. I walked down a sleek hall with round leather "pouf" orange ottomans; perfect to sit and wait outside for your movie to start. I love the movie theaters that are small and sleek... oohhh what have we here? Leather seating, leg room, big screen and less crowds!" The popcorn and soda were fresh and delicious. The entire staff were wonderful and courteous. BAM is surrounded by cool restaurants like Olea and Miss Ada, Apple for shopping, and nearby Atlantic Avenue Mall. I haven't been a regular moviegoer as I used to be, COVID unfortunately impacted that habit. I was lucky enough to get my large bag in, they do check all the bags, large and small. I recommend bringing less items. I was coming from work so I had a laptop with me, but cleared everything else in the bag and left them in the office, so it's not too bad to go through the securities. They did say not to bring large bags in the emails before the concert, but since i went after work and will be working from home the next day, I didn't want to have to head into the office, so I kind of just tried it and was glad I got through since they weren't too strict that day. I did hear from my friend that her friend had to pay $15 for someone to watch the bag for Ariana's concert before, so I guess it just depends on the concert. Overall, I had a good time and enjoyed the concert (and was super lucky to get a seat upgrade). Great vibes, cool space and nice crowd.

The food, branding, and music programming reflect a newer era than MSG, Prudential Center, or The Xfinity Center, when cultural identity became part of the venue itself. Atlantic Terminal makes the location outstanding, while the building still feels fresh and current. Even the Nets' black and white identity and merch are among my favorites in sports. Jay-Z is the experience I will always associate most deeply with this building. I saw him shortly after Barclays opened and returned for another tour, and as a lifelong massive hip hop fan, seeing Hov perform blocks from where he grew up was one of the best nights of my life. Jay is 56, I am 41, and Drake is 39, which matters because people my age were buying Jay-Z albums, watching his videos, and following his rise while we were coming of age. Chicago, where my roots are, also feels culturally closer to New York in this context: Bulls and Knicks before Bulls and Raptors, with East Coast hip hop woven into that era. Drake is absolutely a superstar in his own right, and I would be stoked to see him at the Garden again. My preference for Jay at Barclays is praise for one of hip hop's godfathers performing in his native neighborhood, not a knock on anyone else. I have seen Bruce Springsteen in New Jersey and understand how powerful that homecoming energy can be, but Jay means considerably more to me personally. Seeing him command Barclays in Brooklyn was mind-blowing because the artist, the music, and the geography all belonged together. Basketball works extremely well here too. I did the Nets courtside experience with food before the game for roughly $400 to $500, and it felt like an excellent splurge. That range is about my ceiling for a regularly accessible sports experience, roughly the same mental category as a serious dinner at Brooklyn Fare excluding alcohol, tax, and tip. I have also done the Yankees Legends experience through corporate tickets, which was cool, but premium sports hospitality gets stupid expensive quickly. Ally Love was such a smart choice as the Nets host because she captured the version of Brooklyn Barclays understands so well. To me, Ally is Black athletic urban fashion with music and dance at the core; fitness and team sports complete the picture, from basketball to studio cycling. Elaine Welteroth represents Black creative urban fashion and Manhattan media; Michelle Obama brings Princeton, law, and government; Coco Gauff and the Williams sisters connect elite Black women's sport to New York through the US Open. Ally's Fordham background adds another New York layer, and she is gorgeous and magnetic while still feeling natural, wholesome without being square, and polished without losing her edge. Music has given me several other memorable nights here, including The Black Keys, who absolutely slayed and sounded fantastic. I also attended SOURCE360 for The Source's 25th anniversary, with The Diplomats and Lil' Kim among the performers and Wu Tang Clan headlining, knowing multi-artist anniversary shows can get messy. This was basically a giant hip hop party: we got faded, had fun, and I would happily go back to another Source event. Local names like Cafe Habana and Junior's Cheesecake further the sense that Barclays wants Brooklyn and New York culture inside the building. Ultimately, Barclays does an unusually good job holding different Brooklyns together. Old school and new school, sports and music, longtime Black cultural influence and newer wealth all coexist here, while nearby Kith feels like an almost perfect parallel brand. The arena feels sophisticated without sanding off the borough's personality. I have had premium basketball seats, messy hip hop nights, and transcendent concerts here, but Jay-Z performing in Brooklyn remains the perfect expression of why I think Barclays Center is so damn cool.

Even alcoholic drinks (although, being a public park, make sure to keep them covered in brown bags). 4. Get the Tropfest powers-that-be to have the event in Flushing Meadows Corona Park next time, because then I can stay for the whole event, rather than trek it out halfway through because the G train takes a million years to show up after 10 o'clock at night. Puppets certainly fun for toddlers and older, but these puppets and the shows need an update…read more They're so old fashioned in style, which tends to mean they appear on the creepy side. my daughter told us she found them a little scary. Aside from the aesthetic, I found some of the stories wildly outdated in a slightly harmful way. One story that was shown to a group of toddlers had a fight over the ownership of a girl (never explicitly stated but not subtle either). The evil character won the battle and now the girl toy was his against her will. I don't think I have to point out what's wrong with that. The toys were also pretty mean to each other. Hoping all this went over her head but we won't be back to expose her to more stories like this.

Puppetworks make fairy tales come to life through marionette puppetry, offering hour-long performances geared to kids that will charm everyone in the audience. Kids are encouraged to sit on rugs in front of the stage, while adults and other kids can also sit on the sides and back of the event space. Dozens of beautiful, colorful marionettes of all sizes hang from the wall, giving the impression that they are also part of the audience. The performance itself is professionally curated: the story, the voices, the sound effects, the music, the scenery, and the lights. Artistic Director Nicolas Coppola and his crew clearly put a lot of passion in their work, and it shows in the production. I was definitely impressed. Kids loved it, of course, with lots of active participation during the show. Plus, at the end of the show, Mr. Coppola came out of the stage with a marionette for the kids to meet. Since 1980 Puppetworks offer fun entertainment for kids and family in the neighborhood. Tickets are currently $10 for children, and $11 for adult. You reserve your tickets in advance[1] and pay at the door. As a parent, I also appreciate the fact that they offer performances on school closure days. I've been twice...once in the orchestra and once in the mezzanine and there truly isn't a bad seat in the house. The seats are comfortable, spacious, and even have cup holders. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the bathrooms were sparkling clean. Since it's a historic theater, there are no elevators, so be prepared to take the stairs if you're sitting in the mezzanine. Also, the mezzanine has concession stands but no restrooms, so you'll need to go downstairs. Getting inside was a little hectic, but once everyone was seated, everything went smoothly. I recommend arriving early so you can explore the theater and take photos--there are so many beautiful spots. I couldn't take pictures during the show because the Jill Scott concert was acell phone-free experience. The only downside is that the concessions are pricey. My $22 drink from the bar was disappointing and definitely not worth the price. Overall, it's a gorgeous venue, and I'd absolutely come back.
