Checked out Spring Lake Seafood this weekend with a group of 6. Our reservations were for 5:30 and they seated us as soon as we arrived. We were seated in the covered front deck area which was separated from the interior restaurant. It was an 80-85° day but the temperature in the space was relatively comfortable. We had grabbed a few bottles of white from the conveniently located liquor store across the street. I love me a good BYOB establishment. We started with the tuna pizza, an order of oysters, garlic shrimp, beet salad, and the Bibb salad. (Just a side note, they want you to place your starters and entrees at the same time). Everything came out in a reasonable time and was all very good. The Tuna pizza was not at all what I was envisioning but was a pleasant surprise both presentation and taste wise. The shrimp were interesting because they looked like they would be super flavorful, but just felt kind of flat. Both of the salads were delicious, I really enjoyed the Bibb and would highly recommend it. I had the Bluefin and it was really good, the portion size was fair and the fish was extremely fresh. It was far from the best bluefin I've had, but would recommend it nonetheless. Everyone else enjoyed their entrees as well and overall I would say we had a great time. This was hands down one of the best meals I've had all year! Firstly, I really like knowing that everything is sourced from local farmers and fisherman to make sure all of their ingredients are fresh and clean. Everything here is intentional. They use olive oil over seed oils for example, and ingredients that actually make you feel good after you eat. We started off with the raw bar--fresh clams that tasted like the ocean in the best way. Then we had to try the famous tuna pizza, and wow! I get the hype now. It was the perfect combo of crunchy, creamy, and salty and I'll be dreaming about it for days to come! The garlic shrimp was delicious and had a savory juice, something you'd find in a Spanish tapas restaurant which was perfect for bread dipping. The spaghetti with clams was a classic but elevated dish and came with a generous portion. We tried the ahi tuna lo mein from their specials and that was a fun addition. It doesn't taste greasy so don't expect takeout quality. Their sushi was seriously impressive and some of the best I've had in NJ. We got the kamikaze roll, ninja roll, and chef's nigiri. Totally fresh and easy to eat. Even the mocktails were next level. We tried the Heat Wave and Chicha Sour. Both so unique and had us feeling refreshed after, not sluggish. Of course we ended with dessert. The banana bread pudding made in-house was a huge treat. So delectable and moist. The lemon sorbet was a great way to cleanse our palate and was very refreshing. I remember when this location was a little luncheonette. They made a killer grilled cheese. Last year was the first time we went as Spring Lake Seafood and the food was really good. This year it was not really good...it was great! We started with grilled calamari and scallops that were resting on a creamy lobster sauce with a small amount of caviar garnishing the top of the scallops. Both dishes left us wanting more. Fortunately the entrees that followed were equally beautiful dishes that tasted amazing. My wife had a salmon special that was served with broccoli rabe. She was raving and so was the gentleman at the next table...like a chorus of praise! I had the fjord trout, served on a bed of perfectly cooked lentils. I have had, and very much enjoyed, trout in the past but this was my first fjord trout. It was so good. One of those meals you close your eyes and smile reminiscing about. We capped the meal with tres leches cake...one of my favorites. It was done perfectly moist but not mushy...sweet but not too much. Our waitress was a sweetheart! It's kind of a small place so it was a little noisy but not in an overbearing way. My experience here was incredible! I made a reservation for my friend and I and we were seated right away. Service was very friendly and attentive. They had a lovely selection of mocktails, but we opted to bring a bottle of wine. We sat at the bar, which was beautiful and open feeling. The blackfish special was perfect The gnocchi was delicious and I believe they have the best sushi I've ever had anywhere. And they serve clams on the half shell properly with the wine like sauce, cocktail sauce, horseradish, and lemons. So many restaurants just don't get that right. We went to Spring Lake, NJ for the first time.....it's a hidden jewel on the Jersey shore. Spring Lake Seafood is the jewel in Spring Lake, but it's definitely not hidden. Whenever we drove through the little village of Spring Lake, there was one establishment that always had a crowd - Spring Lake Seafood - it was the 'happening place'. We had dinner there and found out why. We shared the Caesar Salad - it was large leaves of Romaine, with breadcrumbs, capers and Parmesan cheese. It was good. Next, the two entree's shared were the Lobster Roll and the Crab cake. I started with the Lobster Roll - it was scrumptious! Fresh, tender pieces of lobster, on a buttery brioche roll....I had to finish it before I started the Crab cake! However, was I saving the best for last? I took my first bite of the Crab cake, and was startled. I lived in Maryland for 30 years and became part of the 'crab cult'. I hadn't had a Crab cake, which had no filler, in quite some time...until this evening! What a delightful surprise, the cake was perfectly fried and the crab filling was superb! We finished with the Key Lime Pie, which we were told is made at a local bakery. The Key Lime topping was creamy, sweet and tart, with a nice citrusy taste. However, the crust was too thick and chewy, instead of being light and having a crisp bite. The pie could have used twice the topping and half the crust. By far our favorite restaurant in Spring Lake! Casual but nice ambiance, excellent service, and everything we've ever ordered is excellent. Our favorites are the spicy tuna pizza (spicy tuna crispy rice with spicy mayo, wasabi, and eel sauce), the ahi tuna, and the banana bread pudding. It's one of those places that you can't order "wrong." The sushi is so fresh, and we've enjoyed both the specialty rolls and the nigiri flights. It's BYOB, but they also have a small selection of wine. They also have a nice list of interesting mocktails. A reservation is needed, especially on the weekends. Excellent meal for any seafood lover! Oysters were flavorful and plump. I savored every bite of the bluefin tuna flight, it was so fresh and delicious. Crab cakes were the best I've ever had. What a wonderful meal and overall experience at Spring Lake Seafood. The property itself is beautifully detailed; a stunning yet relaxing and enjoyable space. The food was phenomenal. Incredibly fresh and creative dishes, well prepared with good depth of flavor, without trying too hard. Everything hit the mark well. We started with a salad course, I had the Bibb salad, which was delicious with fuji apples, candied walnuts, goat cheese champagne vinaigrette. Pretty sure the candied walnuts were made in-house, they had the perfect amount of crunch! My wife had the caesar, again spot on yummy salad. I walked past the service counter and saw they have a DRY AGER for their TUNA, which I have NEVER seen in a seafood restaurant. I'm a huge fan of dry aged beef, so seeing this put a big smile on my face. This place nerds out on the little touches, I love that. I got the bluefin tuna flight to sample the tuna and I will tell you it's the best tuna sushi I've ever had, so so good. Our main course we got crabcakes, and again they did top notch work. They used a remoulade that I've only ever had similar to (and have sought out since) at Del Frisco's but with less spice. I usually prefer broiled, but the crabcake had a perfect crust that didn't take away from the overall texture of the generous lump inside. They came paired with fingerling potatoes with a light sautee, and these brussel sprouts with this very unique sour citrus spicy flavor profile that I really enjoyed, full of flavor. Really cute restaurant and quite busy on a Friday night! It is BYOB but they have some wines on the menu. We made a reservation just in case and to avoid any potential wait. They have a small bar, some booth seating, mostly tables. I will mention that it gets quite loud and it does feel like you have to shout to the people you're sitting with. We ordered the ninja roll as an appetizer, this was the star of the meal. I ordered the bolognese which was tasty. Their pasta tasted homemade and was a little on the softer side (not my preference but not bad). I thought the sushi was priced reasonably well for the high-quality. For my actual entrée, I tried the fjord trout special. The dish was described as a "Salmon like" trout with burr blanc sauce, asparagus, and pomme purée. I was a little bit disappointed to find a scoop of mashed potatoes when I was expecting creamy purée. (and I still lived through the shock. Confused by the prices on the menu, we asked our waitress if the $20 salads were appetizer or dinner portions. The waitress seemed annoyed by this question. When we were considering salads along with a shrimp appetizer, our waitress told us that was plenty of food. She even mentioned two people could probably split the salad. I cannot tell you the amount of relief I get when I sit down at a restaurant and am greeted with a menu that is a single page long. It often promises outstanding quality and shows a kitchen has perfected their craft. At Spring Lake Seafood, that promise was kept. The location is small, but not so small that you're going to be uncomfortable. They've good seating indoors and out. I, on a hot evening, took a table on the porch. I was served by the lovely and professional Bri, and was told of the wine list from a small label of California. (Bottle of white, bottle of red, perhaps a nice Rosé instead?) Specifically, a Chardonnay, a Pinot Noir, and a Rosé. As I was having oysters to start, I chose the crisp Chardonnay. Such a perfect pairing! (The gourmands can keep their champagne.) Main course was going to be a bit tricky-so many things to choose from- but I could not help from selecting the day boat scallops, with cauliflower purée, forged mushrooms, green beans, and grapefruit browned butter. I was in culinary bliss with each bite! And my guest equally enjoyed a special of shrimp encrusted salmon. I'll definitely be back here again. They provided us with an ice bucket. The oysters were delicious! Some of the best I have tried on the Jersey shore. Highly recommend. I opted to have an appetizer and salad for my main course, and man were those servings huge! The mussels were delicious and some of the fries had time to soak up the delicious broth. Food: I liked our spaghetti with clam sauce a lot! My brother had the burger with fries, fries were a bit too. The Buffalo sauce with calamari was a bit of a miss for me. Our waitress was very sweet and I like the decor a lot, felt very comfy with my pillows! However, noticed a couple things: 1) the location is pretty spacious but they had everyone seated all together in the back.
