This spot is absolutely delicious! My wife and I tried out Roopa's after a friend raved about it and we've been back multiple times already. We love the chicken masala, ginger chicken, empanadas, and aloo gobi masala. Everything we've tried so far has been super tasty. The mild can be a little spicy but not overwhelming, even for my wife who doesn't like anything spicy. Temple Texas May not be known for its fine dining; but this place definitely puts it on the map. I'm no expert on Indian cuisine but the food was delicious. Now I love spice but I must say the medium spice palette was hot! Lol. I enjoyed it but I will be ordering mild moving forward. The place is easy to find it's right off 31st St. (the same street as the hospital), right on the corner. We were greeted as soon as we came in the restaurant and our drinks were brought out quickly. Everything was expertly prepared. Make sure you try the fried cauliflower oh my goodness, it's a jamboree of flavor! Upgrade to the lemon rice with your dish for an unexpectedy unique treat. The portions were generous and even my lunch guest (who eats like he's recently been held hostage) had some to take home. This was my first time visiting and I got my meal to-go. As soon as you walk in to the restaurant, you are hit with the amazing aroma of the cooking spices. Unfortunately I had a very sub-par experience at Roopa's on my most recent lunch visit. It was my 2nd time, and the first visit was pretty solid experience. We got the Chicken Tikka Masala - it was solid. Samosas and Garlic Naan bread were great. This most recent lunch visit on 6/5/18 was the complete opposite and very disappointing. We got the same dishes but some more - - here's the breakdown: - The Chicken Tikka Masala was not the same - - it was almost like a different recipe or cook. It was too soupy and runny and a bit bland, lacked that robust and deep flavor. I noticed something was different when she brought it out - - it's not supposed to be that runny, the sauce is supposed to a bit thicker side almost like a gravy. But it just didn't taste good either. - We got the Ginger Chicken as an appetizer @ $7.99, and this was also not good. They were dried and overcooked pieces of chicken, all dark meat - which is usually known to be juicy, and for 8 bucks it was just not worth it. We ate a few bites and passed on it since it was so dry. - The Samosas were pretty good, same as last time, we were satisfied with this dish. That kept this review from becoming a 1-star experience. - The white rice was dry and clumpy, seemed like it was made earlier in the day - just didn't taste fresh out of the rice cooker. We didn't complain - just ate a few bites and packaged up the rest for which we ended up throwing it away later because it just wasn't up to par and not appetizing. I don't know what happened here - - a new cook? New recipes? But the quality and execution wasn't good. Bill came to $35 - - for 2 appetizers and 1 dish, seems a bit pricey to me, and the quality didn't come close to the high price tag. Unfortunately I don't think we'll be back anytime soon. In all honesty the meat was nice and tender, but I thought everything we ordered was really bland in flavor. It tasted good at first, but after about 3-4 bites it got overwhelming and I just couldn't finish my dish. I got mild because I read in reviews that medium was too hot, I am thinking these people just cannot handle any type of spice because mild had no spice levels in it at all.. I was not really excited to have leftovers of it also because the flavors just weren't there for me so I gave it away. The garlic nann was pretty good though. I was excited to try this place out and I really wanted to give Indian food another chance, but maybe its just not for me. I don't think I will be returning. This is a stunning ruby hiding on Canyon Creek Rd off of 31st street. Located in a small strip mall. The constant flow of travel is a giveaway ,something good is happening inside. Upon opening the door,a heady array of spices greet you. Our first meal there was comprised of samosas,and lamb curry (served on the weekends). The samosa had a crisp,not greasy outer layer and a delicious savory and sweet filling of potatoes/peas. The lamb was tender,juicy with such a sauce,that I had to close my eyes to take in all the spice notes. The restaurant is quite cozy with 3 booths & 5 tables for 4 & 2 tables for 6. I really like the set up. It's quiet also as everyone is speaking only with enough volume to be heard at their own table. The entire vibe is the Indian culture. The music is playing low to add to the ambience. It's a bit warm in here though as they have some air circulators going. Now to the food. Woooooweeeee! Medium spice is quite spicy. Ordered the Chicken Tikki Masala as that is all I currently am familiar with. It was very good once I got comfortable with the spice level. The portion size was plenty enough. I have at least another serving for lunch tomorrow. The garlic naan was really good also. I wish the Mango Lassi was colder. It was like a smoothie but warm. As a group we tried the butter chicken, which was great. Smooth, creamy butter sauce with bits of juicy chicken. The Masala Dosa was my favorite! It was HUGE! The pancake was thin and soft and the filling was so good and had a nice texture. I also loved the coconut chutney. The Palak Paneer was really well seasoned with large chunks of paneer cheese. The spinach was perfectly cooked and nicely chopped up. It had a little kick, but not too spicy. The rice was really good, fluffy and fresh. Spicy curried cauliflower that has been fried in a light batter. Omg I loved it so much I had to get a to go order to take home. I got curried chicken, but I asked for it spicy and gosh was it good. It was spicy, but not overly so, not in the way that your mouth burns so much you can no longer eat. It warmed my whole body. It was so delicious. I felt like a was getting a great big curry hug. The servers were so kind and they also did their best to make sure our table was super clean and swept put before we sat down in our booth. Bonus, the bathroom was spotless. I got to see past the swinging door into the kitchen and now I know why the food sucks. There were plastic bins in there on tables with all the sauces. The chicken is tasteless, and I think they cook it separately then splash sauce on top. I've been three times and it has sucked all three times. Someone else mentioned the chicken had the texture of roast chicken and that's what I think they do to unspiced chicken. That's certainly what it tastes like. The food has no flavor other than hot, if you order spice. The place was packed full of people today at lunch though. Temple certainly has a big open space for a good Indian restaurant to slip into. Also ordered curry chicken medium spice and I was expecting to get full flavor of ginger and garlic , however it was really really spicy and did not taste any of garlic or ginger. Order a side of biryani's chicken rice medium spice and all I taste it but the spicy. Well, I was excited to try this Indian place for the first time. I went there for dinner this evening, and was ready for a delicious meal. I walked in and was seated promptly. That was a good sign. The server seemed young and maybe inexperienced, but I was still ready to give it a chance. I ordered a beer and then figured out my entree. It did not take long for me to choose an item. The setting is modest yet semi-formal. And there were several other patrons there in the restaurant. They brought out my drink and not too long after the food arrived. It smelled good, and looked good. I started loading up my plate with the rice, salad, and entree. I got a chicken dish. Then, I started to evaluate the food. The chicken dish itself was good. The lemon rice that I had to pay a little extra for had lots of undercooked lentils in it. Almost thought I might break a tooth on one. Nasty surprise when I already had to upcharge for this specialty rice. But I continued eating, trying to make the best of it. I probably should have gotten the server's attention and told her that the lentils were way too hard. Then on to the service for the rest of the meal. Literally the entire time, no one came and checked on me or asked if I needed anything. Bummer. I appreciate at least basic service, but here it was almost like they just forgot about me. They were not seeming to give great service at other tables either, honestly. How hard is it to check up on your customers after they have started to eat their food?! I had to flag down the server just to ask for a refill on my iced water. And finally I ate all that I could and was ready for the bill. Surprisingly they attentively brought that by. I guess as long as you'll pay good money to them, they don't care about anything else. I looked at my bill and wow, it was expensive! Way more than I had anticipated. Sticker shock. The chicken tikka masala was too acidic for me I immediately got acid reflux and I never get that stuff. The chai was probably my favorite thing there; had strong flavor and strength. The rice was very soft for an Indian-style basmati rice. Let's just say I'm not sure if it was made by an Indian or not (lacked a certain authenticity). The Chicken 65 batter was a bit salty however the mint chutney they paired it with complimented it well to add balance the overall flavor of the dish. You can taste it. The food... is real! Real food! I had the VEG KORMA and white rice, which was a gravy dish made up of potatoes, bell peppers, green beans, green peas, coconut, cashews, and a blend of spices. The blend of spices was something I I had never had before. I mean this in the most literal sense (not figurative) when I say--it gave me chills. I literally, LITERALLY had goosebumps on my arms after tasting my dish. It happened twice. I am so pleased with the restaurant's food quality, the timeliness of my order being fulfilled, the professionalism of the staff, and what I love the most is that they follow the CDC guidelines for this pandemic.
