I like a nice simple haircut, a zero in the summer, a one in the winter, sometimes a beard trim - the barbers here do a pretty good job at that. I've had better, I've definitely had much worse. They're very nice people and they're convenient for me so I will keep coming back. It's small inside, there're only two chairs and one chair to wait. They have two chairs set up outside, it gets pretty warm out there on a summer afternoon when the sun is on them but I've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes. My boyfriend goes to this barber and has been getting his hair cut by the owner each time (I think there's only one barber anyway). I have to say each time he's done he looks good and he's never complained. I have seen that there often are longer hairs that look like they were missed, but he still looks good. Terrible experience all around. I came in on a Saturday afternoon and waited 30 minutes. As I was waiting I noticed they didn't clean up the hair from prior customers. As a result the floor was covered in patches of hair..gross! Here's the worst part, the lady did not know how to take instructions. She cut my hair too short and too high, and accused me afterwards of not making it clear to her in the beginning of what I wanted. She made some lame remark that other Asian people came in earlier that week wanting this same hairstyle. Really?? Did a whole bunch of people decide to get terrible haircuts at once? What's even worse is that her coworker who overheard my frustration and tried to make light of the situation by making staying, "You've got beautiful hair". Never coming back. I plan to become barber when I retire, and I study barber shops closely. I had a good, basic experience here two weeks ago with Ina cutting my hair. AVOID! My fiance wanted his hair line & neck trimmed. It was 5 min in the chair & $20!!!!!! He walked out with the hair line above his ears way too high on both sides, with one noticeably higher than the other. When he was told it cost $20, he thought the guy made a mistake. The guy was very adamant about the price, calling it a hair cut when it wasn't (it was a neck & hair line trim). When my fiance tried to explain why he didn't think that was fair, the guy's language barrier caused him to keep repeating "hair cut $20". My fiance will not ever return to this location. He has gone to many other barbers that provide this service for $10 and do a far better job. Use this location at your own risk. read more

The worst shop ever!!!! ever!!! Avoid at all cost!! I came in, told them that I have an interview coming up that is very very important for me and asked for some light trim/fix. Very basic stuff, no high tech needed and after so much emphasizing on how important it is, I thought they would be a little more careful. I was totally wrong. It takes the Indian Barber 5 mints to do the job and she didn't even use scissors! All she does is used a razor to "casually" sweep across my head. she can't even make both sides symmetric. One part of my hair end up sticking out like a crane in a group of chicken. And the barber shameless said after the 5 mint job saying:"what a nice job, you now belongs to this barbershop" Such a bad experience. I had to for the first time type so much on yelp. I've been coming to this spot for years and if you need a quick no hassle cut - this is the place. I've had my hair clipped by 2 female barbers, and 2 male barbers without any issues or complaints. I went in with reasonable expectations. I wanted a simple, even haircut for a fair price in a clean place. I got the fair price, but unfortunately none of the other attributes. I should say that the people who work here are very nice and friendly. However, the shop is dirty, as is the equipment, and the haircut I got is just lousy. If you want to spend $17 to look like one of the coneheads and possibly get a disease from the clippers and scissors which might have been cleaned in 1978, this is your place. Otherwise, try one of the numerous other barbers in the neighborhood, and you'll probably fare better for a similar price. read more

I wasn't going to write a review but got so upset at the negative reviews that I just had to say something. Ina is the best cutter in all of NYC, hence the world. My foster father was the president of the barber's union in NYC during the 1950's, so I know a little something about the trade. And the idiot who complained about 20 dollars for a haircut, is he kidding? What planet is he living on? I no longer live in NYC but travel back there on occasion just to see Ina. She is without question the best at her craft, her clientele includes many doctors from nearby St. Luke's-Roosevelt as well as regular joes like me, all are treated with respect. She gives an old-fashion classic cut, also does women. She now only works Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Cannot say enough good about her. She is an absolute blessing. God bless Ina. read more

Horrible. Possibly the worst haircut I have ever had. The woman was clearly self-taught, and 20 years behind the times. It's just like the more recent reviews said, but I thought it might be different with the two women. I drew the younger one but I'm not sure it matters. Jar head sides! Way too short. After she botched the sides up with huge ELECTRIC SHEARS she had to cut it to 3/4 inch all the way up to smooth it out. Then she started in on the top. I told her not to trim off much on top. So she didn't. Now I look like a scalped marine. Honestly, it takes no skill or training to cut everything to 3/4 inch on the sides and none off on top. No transitions either except maybe it's only 1/8th of an inch in the part line. I kid you not. This young guy comes in after me and sees my head and leaves right away saying he needs to go get cash. He dodged a bullet. Too bad the two guys before me were near bald. read more
