I mean, this is a nice little spot. The food was amazing. Honestly, the brisket tacos were absolutely phenomenal the perfect amount of spicy. Literally scarfed it down give one to my friend who went with me and he absolutely loved it. He did note that he wishes bacon was actually crispy and not "limp". To me that's a personal preference though I don't like really crispy bacon. to each their own this as they say. His fries were absolutely delicious and super fresh. The chairs are quite uncomfortable. They're literally metal stools. Certainly not fat people friendly. But if you get a chance to sit at the bar, those have cushioned seats. I was thoroughly entertained by the decor though. I love a cheeky sign. The bartender doubles as the waitress and she was very kind and attentive. We visited Roosters Grille & Pizzaria on 6/5/26 at 5:05pm. We ordered a Nacho Supreme, and a Hawaiian pizza. For drinks we ordered water and tea for beverages. The best part of my dining experience was the pizza as it was homemade with a perfect crust and amazing cheese and pineapple as well. If the restaurant could improve there nachos as they didn't feel homemade and nothing tasted fresh. I would like to see some pasta added to their menu. I heard about this place as I was coming through Callahan for the races. The ambiance was what you expect for a small town bar and the staff were pretty friendly. read more

I've come to this restaurant a few times over the years, and while the food is good, it's not worth the money they charge, and I feel like they take advantage of the fact that there are no other food options in this town. You can tell they've started charging more and cutting back on things like cheese on the pizza. Business owners, nowadays, don't seem to realize that providing less, while charging more, is a bad way to keep customers. Came up to Roosters after the fair tonight. Love coming here. The service was amazing. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and shortly after that we had our drinks. My husband's mixed drink was perfect. He ordered a calzone and I ordered the Spicy American for dinner. Everything was delicious and exactly as we ordered it. After hours of walking through the Paint Mines, we stopped into town to grab a bite to eat. They had several beers on tap (a tall Blue Moon was like $5) and the bartender/server was great. She answered all our questions and stopped by a few times to check on us. The food came out pretty quickly as well. We got the keg taters appetizer (large tots with a ton of stuff inside, I want to say bacon, cheese...) and tried them with several sauces (ranch, jalapeño ranch, and a spicy orange-colored mayo), all of which were really good. My favorite was the spicy mayo, which I thought was a bit sweet. I tried the pulled pork, which had slaw on it. It came with a side of macaroni salad/bacon/cheese. The sandwich was well-stuffed and was pretty good, but I would try this spicy beef wrap that they had if I am ever in town again. My wife tried the chicken wrap with a parmesan garlic sauce. She felt it was about average fare for the wrap. She got onion rings on the side and would highly recommend them ("crispy and delicious" was the feedback). Didn't get a chance to try the food which is a shame because we are big foodies and was looking forward to it but the wait was so long and when they finally got to us we were treated very badly. We love Roosters. Location is convenient for us who live out east, food is always delicious, service is usually not bad, music is usually good obnoxious once in a while. Unfortunately have to take away a star because it has gotten so expensive. We used to go in once a week but now can't afford more than about once a month. Stopped in for a late lunch. Place was was dead at that time which was fine by me as we were pretty hungry. We ordered our food but had second thoughts as we were battling the flies that were abundant inside. I get it, it's a problem since they come in the front door as soon as it's open but I don't expect to see dead flies on the ledges and shelves inside the restaurant! It really took away my appetite as the shelf at our table had several carcasses with a layer of dust. So you mean to tell me no one can wipe that off? I ordered a patty melt with a burger that was so DRY! My husband's French dip sandwich was tasteless and only had a couple of bites before he just ate the fries and called it good. Visited this local place for the first time and sat on the bar side. We ordered a medium philly cheese steak pizza, added jalapenos. I'm usually a thin crust gal but whatever is going on with this crust has me lookin' sideways at it....it's crispy and airy. Yeah...I'm a fan! The toppings were great! Sasha was GREAT! Stopped by this afternoon after sometime at the Paint Mines down the road. At first I was hesitant but it was 100% worth it. Bartender/Waitress (I believe a local/regular said Jamie?) was incredible, especially with the 8 regulars that all came in at once. She was able to get them their drinks in a timely manner. Food was incredible, some of the best wings I've ever had, and the thickest bacon on a BLT ever, and those sweet potato fries were awesome too. We had read some pretty good reviews and thought we'd try it. We had come to the western omelette, which is their "dinning room" now for many years , which now is roosters. We sat in the bar side, which I prefer because the Saturday football games were on. Beer is reasonable, with the 22oz Coors lights being $5. We each got a burger, which was WAY too much to eat for 1 person . They were 1/2 pound patties with a very large side of fries. We should have split. Fries were hand cut which is amazing. Onion rings appeared to be homemade, but not sure, but were delicious. My only criticism was the burgers weren't cooked to temperature. Mine was overcooked, and my wife's was undercooked. The pizza and wings prices were way overpriced so we ruled them out right away. Sandwiches and Burgers seemed to be priced were you'd expect. Side note. The people at the bar next to us had the fish and chips.. definitely out of a frozen bag of fish. Not sure I'd order that for $15 We will eat there again at and try some other offerings. read more

Great burgers, although the cook wanted to debate our waitress about whether it was normal/appropriate for my husband to order a medium rare burger in a bar and grill. My patient and sweet husband said he would gladly accept any amount of pink and they remade it with only moderate yelling in protest. We are very laid back people so that experience was dramatic and mildly amusing but didn't freak us out. Gentler souls might have had problems! Bartender and waitress made it okay though! Waitress was such a sweetie. New but wonderful. I couldn't help but wonder if they have high turn over because of grumpy cook in the back but I'm just guessing. I'm writing this review mainly to share the fact that they had some of the best onion rings I have had in years. It was tempura style batter in big fat slices, not the panko crumb kind, for onion ring lovers out there. We all tried burgers and fries or onion rings so I can't comment much further on the food! Seats weren't too comfy but worked. Tall guys will like how high the tables were. Shorties like me will do okay. This is a country style bar and restaurant and is decorated accordingly. Amazing place out in the middle of nowhere!! Definitely worth the drive outside of town!

After a day spent exploring the Paint Mines, my companion and I were getting pretty hungry. With few options in Calhan we decided to give Roosters a try! For being one of the few restaurants in small town Calhan they had a fairly comprehensive menu. I think our server was just a bit frustrated that we weren't ready to order when she stopped by our booth a second time. Oh well. We chose to split the Supreme Nachos and a Spicy American Wrap. The nachos were okay. They truly didn't wow me. The wrap was pretty greasy and super spicy. I love spicy and this was almost to much for me! This was def a situation where our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we took home some leftover nachos. We also sipped on a couple large brews with our meal. Trust me when they say "large" it's not a joke. So make sure you're thirsty! Though afer a long day of hiking it was def needed. Rooster's is a solid meal spot in Calhan! read more

Had a wonderful late lunch after a morning hike at the Painted Mines. Our server was great, making sure the table was cleaned before we sat. I recently visited Roosters while visiting some family in the Calhan area. The service was a little lacking, but it was hard to tell if that was the norm or if the staff was just focusing on serving the local patrons. I had to get up and ask for things and received no direction on where their menus were. I ended up just going to their website to look and the server came over 5 minutes later and pointed at a tiny QR code that wasn't actually on the table. That being said, I would still be willing to go back because the food was actually pretty good and the pricing was super reasonable. We ended up ordering a Philly cheesesteak and the Mushroom Swiss burger, both were really filling and well-prepared. So, give this place a try if you're not in too big a hurry. read more

We tried a lot of different things--Rocky Mountain oysters (my husband's first, and he said they were delicious and tender!), The Don Burger (my husband was VERY smitten with it), and the Cora's Pizza (absolutely delicious crust. The menu has all the features of a diner - burgers, fries, milk shakes and pizza served in huge portions! I did appreciate the effort from the staff for the service and plate presentation but when you see a mountain of food in front of you, the quality gotta take a nosedive. I found this place on the way to visit the nearby Paint Mines park. I drove through town and picked the place with the most cars, figuring that was an indicator that the place was good. My strategy worked. :-) The owner was tending the bar and provided attentive and friendly service. I ordered the burger and it came with hand-cut fries--both were excellent. He said after I ordered that he forgot to tell me about the special, which was shrimp tacos, and brought one out for me to try. Perfection! Lightly battered and fried shrimp with a wonderfully spicy jalapeno sauce and slaw. If you're passing through Calhan, stop here, and hope it's shrimp taco day.
