Very cool BBQ joint right across the street from the City Hall in Decatur. It's an old building with tons of decorations inside. There are two floors and a back patio. They also have three pool tables and TVs. The menu is extensive and the prices reasonable for BBQ. Seems like a favorite of the locals. I though they would be playing C&W, but they had 60's and 70's music on. The squeeze and I split a two meat plate with brisket and sausage and two sides, cowboy cole slaw and Rooster Tails (Deep fried onion petals). The brisket was moist and very tender, with a slight smokiness. The sausage was deeply smoked, sliced in half and charred a bit on the flattop. The slaw and Rooster Tails were really good. A nice slightly spicy dip was served with the onions. Good BBQ sauce for the brisket, and they also had a wall of pain with some choice hot sauces on it. I didn't partake, since I have a flight to catch in the morning. They brought a second plate for no charge. The squeeze had a canned IPA and I had a Shiner Bock draft for libations. We really enjoyed the meal. Morgan was an excellent server and didn't try to shoo us out even though more customers were coming in. If I had one complaint...it's always cold in here! Freezing! 2nd complaint. They have semi outside seating in the back but always force people upstairs. Gorgeous day and we wanted to be outside! That said the food is always delicious. Started off with Fried Pickles. Lightly breaded and cooked to pure perfection with a slight crispy texture. Yummy. Decent salad and cheap beer. Two dollar draft since it was the USA's quarterfinal FIFA World Cup match (they lost). This is a fun place for a casual meal. We were driving through Decatur on the way to Amarillo and dropped by for lunch. The restaurant itself is unique, with two floors that can seat a lot of folks. The service was excellent and they had an interesting menu selection. We both had barbecue plates with brisket and sausage. My wife's side order was black beans and rice - tasty. I had the Rooster Tails which is an interesting twist on Onion Rings. The brisket was very lean and a little on the dry side. If I came back, I'd order it moist. Late weekday lunch with sister. Wanted something light and this convenient location was the choice. Loved the peanuts to snack on while waiting. Upstairs and downstairs were busy, but we were greeted and seated promptly upstairs. Bartender that day was our server. Ordered near beers and an order of the pulled pork nachos to share. Near beers delivered with cold mugs each time. Nachos took no time to be delivered. HUGE order! But boy were they delicious. We ended up with leftovers, which were actually able to be reheated. Had to ask for extra jalapenos, which took a minute. Check out was quick and service from everyone (we had a food runner and someone else checked on our drinks as well) was very friendly. We were near on a business trip. Found them on Google maps. This is a nice restaurant in what appears to be the old town square. We ordered the special which was catfish. The fish was fantastic and the waitress was very nice. The location was very clean. They would get a 5 star if they work on those hush puppies a little... They are just a bit big... maybe make three out of the same amount of bread as two are now. I would certainly visit here again and recommend them. read more

Went to Roosters today. Not our normal experience. We had company from out of town so there were 6 of us. One of my friends is handicapped and so wasn't able to go up stairs to a table that could accommodate 6 people. We sat at two different tables. My wife told our friends from California how great the hamburgers are so they ordered burgers. All 5 burgers were way over salted. They told us that it was premixed. Kind of ruined the experience for us. My wife ended up giving me her burger and our guest got through half and just ended up taking it home. The manager came by and told us they were salting the burger by mistake so she told them not to. Would have been nice to offer making it right. I still like this place but will just send it back next time. read more

Roosters Roadhouse was a good find driving thru Decatur on a Thursday night. Think Texas Roadhouse vibe but way more authentic than a chain can do. Blues and funky music. Server awesome with great suggestions. They have extensive BBQ and burger selections, and prepare their meats onsite. We chose the Cheddar Bacon Jalapeño burger and Chicken Bacon Quesadilla. At server suggestion chose the Rooster Tail onion rings vs standard homemade chips. Food was very good, and the Rooster Tails perfectly prepared (done but not too dry). Comes with its own dipping sauce. Small pet peeve had a beer and it came out in the can with no offer of a glass. That said, overall fun place, solid food, service and experience. read more

Quick drive to the little sleepy town of Decatur (about a 30 minute drive from Fort Worth) you will find this fun dive bar and grill. The immediate aroma of BBQ when you walk in tells you this is good stuff. The plates are reasonably priced, good portions, and plenty of options to choose from like chicken fried steak, salads galore, and hand held classics along with the BBQ. The service was a bit slow but after talking to our waitress we realized she was the only one working the floor. Either way they were super nice, and kudos to her- she managed all the tables without missing a beat! This place has a second floor. read more

Good food with burgers and barbecue sandwiches dominating. The house made chips are really good also. Top them off with a cold beer (or cocktail if you prefer). It looks tiny when you walk in, with just the bar and a few tables downstairs, but it opens up on the second floor with another bar, several tables and several TV's with sports running. We always visit, and I mean ALWAYS, Sweetipie's but decided to give Rooster's one good try. We were not disappointed! We were seated immediately and our orders were taken to the kitchen promptly. The food took less than half an hour to receive despite the busyness of Friday lunch rush. We started off with a half-order of bacon cheese fries which were soooo good! They are served with ranch. I ordered a patty melt since it was starred on the menu as a favorite. It was amazing, the sweet caramelization of cooked onion topped a cheeseburger and had a delicious sauce. I could only finish half the sandwich, it's huge. My kiddo had the Texas sliders (kid's meal comes with 2 sliders and the adult slider meal comes with 3). Hubby ordered a three meat plate, which I thought was just okay. The sausage piece I sampled from his plate was kind of burned and tasted like it had been reheated. I'm picky about smoked meat though, so I don't order unless I see it being smoked in front of me (ie Hard Eight) out of fear of it being old and dry. I do have a few cons to point out, but I didn't deduct stars since overall it was an enjoyable visit. Our server didn't keep our drinks full, she did walk over after we had our food to ask if we needed anything though. Also, she didn't offer to-go boxes even when she noticed how much food we had leftover. There is a bar so if you are looking for a Date Night idea, perhaps Rooster's would be a spot to try in the evening hours. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this Roosters yet. Only been here a dozen times. Sometimes while at work and several times 15 mile drive just for their food. Love this place. Great ambience inside with the historic building on the downtown square. But in all honesty, it's the food that brings me back every time. Although I've never had bad service and the wait staff is awesome! Today I had the single Bubba with mushrooms and substituted the fries for rooster tails. They have one of the best combinations of burger patties and buns. So much flavor packed into that handmade burger patty. A perfect combination. Let's talk about the rooster tails though. If you like onion rings then you're in for a surprise. These are the best tasting onion rings I've been had. Period!!! Then their dipping sauce takes it to a whole other level. We stopped here while passing through and were really happy with this find! I wish we had one closer to home. Loved the decor and vibe, although we had carry out because we had our dogs with us. The brisket burger was delicious - the burger was seasoned so well and the added slices of brisket put it over the top! The Texas Hot Chicken sandwich was amazing. The chicken was juicy and crispy at the same time, it was just the right hot with the addition of some sweet pickles (I don't usually like sweet, but this was so good) and the toppings and Texas toast... just try it! Substituted the Rooster Tails for one of our meals and they were fantastic. Again, we had carry out, but everyone was friendly and our order came out when promised. Brisket, rolled in tortilla shells, with a horseradish type dressing, is AWESOME! Sounds weird, but it's a total local favorite... it will be yours too! Parking was a challenge but well worth the walk around the block. It is a Roadhouse so a lot of character in the decor. Looks to have a full and active bar for drinks. Wait staff was friendly and helpful. We had the Patty Melt and homemade tater chips. They set a new standard for Patty Melt and all will be judged by it henceforth!! It was great! Always enjoyed going to Roosters. My chicken bowl was very filling. They had just the right amount of chicken, rice, and corn. If I would've thought about it, I would've asked to add black beans! Hubby had the cheese buffalo burger with french fries. The burger had mushrooms, bacon, cheese, and a fried egg! The french fries were good and crispy. On a road trip to Colorado made a detour to Decatur to try Roosters Roadhouse other than being located in a town square where there is minimal parking close by, the atmosphere and food was pretty good. Decor was kinda cool. We were sat upstairs so there's seating upstairs & down. The menu is accessed by a QR Code but they do have a paper menu you can look at if the code doesn't work. So the clan (my family) enjoyed their meals they chose my husband wasn't a fan of the sausage he had. They serve Coca-Cola beverages but have alcohol we just didn't get any this trip. read more

Came here twice while in the area for a wedding. The Pit Sandwich is the bomb and the home made potato chips were really nice as well. The service was friendly and there are a lot of interesting trashy decorations inside the restaurant which gave it a lot of characters.
