Cute little place with delicious food! The place is really cute with some "Green" decor around. Their parking lot is tiny though. We had to park down the street, but no wait for a table. We ordered beignets as an appetizer, but they arrived after our breakfast did. Still, really yummy with the berry compote dip. We also ordered the breakfast sandwich with garlic fries, huevos rancheros, and sweet & crispy French toast. We all loved our meals. The breakfast sandwich wasn't typical and came in a good bun. The meat was a bit fatty, but was easy to remove. The fries had the perfect amount of garlic on them. French toast was yummy and so was huevos. The latter was served with almost a tostada style. Great flavor and quality in all. Service was a bit hit or miss because the server kept forgetting things. Like he forgot lavender lemonade so we had to ask again, forgot to bring beignets first, and then never brought extra syrup. He was doing his best though. Love this little spot to stop and grab a bite! I've been going here since it used to be Angel Cafe. The staff here are always super kind and do an absolutely amazing job! I was surprised to find out that management doesn't provide their staff with a shift meal or free coffee. A free meal and coffee is common practice for any food service business I have ever worked for. Take care of your employees. They are worth it and the face of your company. We got in to Salt Lake early and wanted some much needed nutrients. We came to snowboard and were staying near by. Yelp guided us to 1 of 3 breakfast places somewhat near by. We were lucky to follow our bunch, being foodies, and landed in this eclectic, friendly spot. The food was way above expectations. I had huevo ranchero-esc tostada plate. I don't know where to start. It was light, fluffy, cheesy, creamy, crunchy and the added hash browns were the perfect compliment. My buddy had the eggs Benedict which he said were great. They also looked great! A must try in the cottonwood area of Salt Lake City. I will be back even though I live in Santa Monica, CA. read more

Great brunch spot with a variety of scrumptious dishes. Highly recommend making a reservation on the website to ensure you sit down with no wait. Choose to sit outside if you want to hear your conversation, it gets incredibly loud inside. They have great coffee and matcha, beers and wines to pair with your breakfast. Don't skip on the drinks! Tucked away in the Cottonwood Heights area is a lovely café called Root'd. It's a refreshing change from the monotony of chain restaurants and it is chuck full of personality. You'll find patio seating outside (dogs welcome!) as well as ample seating indoors. Staff is friendly and attentive. A private parking lot has plenty of space to leave your car while you dine. I've dined here over a dozen times in the last year with mixed experiences, but usually better than average. This cafe has some creative and healthy offerings, which I enjoy. If there were less variability in quality (food and service) and a bit more menu refreshing, this place would be awesome. A couple examples of food variability: sometimes the poached eggs have firm whites (as they are supposed to), other times they are runny. I've tried the pancakes twice and once they were too doughy inside to eat. The service is also a little variable but generally above average. One server, I'll call him "Jack," since that's his name : ) is one of the best in the business. The ambience is attractive and not too loud--a great spot to chat with friends or family. The patio is well heated for most winter days, too. Root'd Cafe is a pretty good spot. If it would rotate some more seasonal items on the menu, increase the consistency of its food prep, and provide a little bit more customer service training, this place could earn its place in one of my "best of" lists. read more

I love Root'd! Great menu and atmosphere. I've been many times and liked everything I've tried. I especially like the huevos rancheros, and the Cuban and Reuben sandwiches, and I always get the Brussel sprouts on the side, they are fantastic. Even the coffee is noticeably a step above. I've had great food here in the past, but it's been a couple years. Today I went in and they said it would be a 20 minute wait to be seated - 3 tables inside were full, the rest (about 6) were empty, and the patio was pretty full with a few open spots. While waiting to be seated, we saw a waitress repeatedly putting her bare hands on the food ready at the window - like cupping her whole hand directly on avocado toast (maybe to see if it was warm?) Cute little cafe. Food looks amazing but in my opinion a little too sweet for me. I could only get through one crepe before it got too sweet for me. Service was great and fast. Unfortunately the crepe was too sweet for me that I did not get to try the beignets. But it all looked so good and everyone was great. We stopped here after visiting the cemetery up the road. It was a quiet afternoon and not many people there. Food was so-so but what really was lacking was the service. Took a while to come get our order, which was perplexing as there was only one other table occupied in the restaurant. After we got our food our waitress never checked back or refilled our drinks. This was my second time visiting and got the monte Cristo; I don't know what it was, but I was very disappointed with the sandwich, and left most of it on the plate from the off taste. This place is super busy, but adorable. They have really cute decor and merch, as well as delicious food! There are subtle things that elevate their food- like the brown butter pancakes. All three of us were pleasantly surprised and extremely full. Their dessert case is also chock full of delicious treats that are worth taking home. Steak in the steak tacos was basically inedible because is every piece had large amounts of connective tissue. The flavor was good but the cut of steak was very disappointing. Also the mock-tail had no sweetness and it was supposed to be made with sprite. Root'd has extremely poor service and food that just isn't memorable enough for me to go back. They have a large menu and it was confusing on whether they were serving breakfast, lunch or brunch but we were able to order off of any of those list of options. The fried pickle spears were extra crispy and borderline burnt on the ends, but the dipping sauces they came with were decent. The burger ($14) I had with garlic fries for an up charge of $3 was bland and needed salt and pepper. The fries weren't very crispy and just had a pile of garlic on top without really being mixed in. My fiancé didn't get any dressing for his side salad, so my cousin shared hers with him because the server never came by to see if we needed anything else. Since the service was so nonexistent, I felt like we had to beg for more water, sugar and coffee. When we asked for a coffee refill, a girl came around and topped our glasses off with a thermos. However, the second time around, a younger guy handed us a "new" glass that was filthy on the outside AND the inside. There were a ton of floaties of coffee grounds and who knows what else inside the glass. I was pretty appalled, but by that time we were just ready to get out of there. read more

Root'd never disappoints. Was there twice with my dad this week. Salads are fresh and good size. My dad, who is nowhere near a vegan, really loved the coconut corn soup. It had the perfect bit of heat from jalapeño. Servers all friendly and attentive without being overbearing. There are two seating areas, including a nicely heated patio, which we enjoy in the summertime, but also was clearly warm enough for the winter. Very happy that I live near here as we also really enjoy their weekend brunch. read more
