I stopped by on a Saturday morning, and the place was packed. Since I was dining alone, I was able to grab a seat at the bar right away, but groups were facing waits of around 30 minutes. Very busy, but clean and organized. Even though my server was clearly very busy, they still checked in several times to make sure I had everything I needed. My food arrived quickly, and everything tasted fresh. The pancakes were delicious and had just the right amount of sweetness. I ordered the "Small Breakfast," but there was nothing small about the portion. It was more than enough food and a great value. Gave Penny Ann's another shot and it fell flat for me again. Our server was kind of cold and unfriendly. I felt uncomfortable asking for things, or even asking for more time to decide on what to order. For example I ordered pancakes for my kids and a side of fries and he just looked at me and I asked if the pancakes came with a side and he said 'no'. So I really didn't know if we were getting fries or not until they were brought out. I ended up just getting the two pancakes. We went on a Thursday afternoon and there wasn't any wait to be seated. Our server greeted us immediately and said she'd be right with us. We got time to look at our menu and our waters came out quickly after she asked what we wanted to drink. Our food also came out quickly after ordering. We all enjoyed our food and loved the portion sizes! My stuffed French toast came with almost 8 slices of bread, it was huge! I just didn't feel like they dipped it very much in egg to create the nice crunch and flavor of French toast. The only time we had to wait was for our check. Yelpers have come thru again! I started my day at 4am & luckily had a smooth flight to Salt Lake City. But after a full flight & waiting for rental car, I was READY for breakfast. Photos seemed good, so straight to Penny Ann's Cafe from the airport! I immediately knew I wanted the big breakfast, and the kitchen is not messing around. A wonderful plate of food, and here's the thing. The pancakes will BLOW YOUR MIND. I can never achieve this at home... that perfect crisp on the outside, but fluffy inside. Nothing burned, everything served at the perfect temperature. Now the big breakfast comes with *3 pancakes* but I know my limit, so I asked the kitchen if I could have 1 pancake instead of 3. That was an excellent choice. 1 pancake totally makes me happy. Coffee was good. I'm a sucker for chicken and waffles, but these guys put the chicken IN THE WAFFLE and it's perfect! Taste as expected but SO good to trick my kids in to eating more protein. Pancakes were stiff, flat, not fluffy. Crisp bacon as requested but were about 1/2" wide strips. The scrambled eggs were also very flat & not fluffy at all. We have eaten at the Draper location several times but the new Midvale left a lot to be desired. read more

Coffee and pancakes are great. However, the booth seatbacks are not anchored well. One can feel every movement of the person sitting on other side. Simple foot jiggling feeds through to the other side as the entire seat vibrates. If this kind of stuff bugs you then sit at a table, not a booth. read more

It was pretty busy for a weekday morning. The service was excellent and the food came out hot and quick. I ordered the basic breakfast with sausage, pancakes, and a poached egg. I thought the pancakes were just OK. It seemed to really promote them, but I didn't think they were any better than boxed stuff. This is definitely our go-to breakfast spot. But it seems like in the last few years they've really gone downhill, especially in the service department. The last time we were there the waiter we had was just awful! We were sat at the bar and had to wash this guy yell at all the waitresses, then get really upset and stomp in the back (it was over something about a coffee cup on the counter?). Because of this I think you forgot about hos customers sitting at the bar. By the time he finally got around to taking our order he was very short and kirt, at one point he just stared at me like I done something wrong. The whole experience was really strange and awkward. Had some brunch on a Saturday around brunch time. The restaurant was busy but moving very efficiently and I was able to score a table of 4 quickly with the Yelp waitlist. Food was delicious, the portions are large so I highly recommend coming very hungry or be ready to take some leftovers home. Our table had a mix of egg dishes, sweets, the chili casserole, and the potatoes with eggs. Plenty of coffee was served. Everything was tasteless, hotcakes were dry, my eggs Florentine Benedict eggs were undercooked and the croissant it was in was so soggy I couldn't eat it. 3 1/2 stars Penny Ann's reminds me of a diner style venue. They serve breakfast all day. Their portions are great for the price. I ordered a PAC Benedict which was a twist on an original Benedict. "Two poached eggs, bacon, ham and grilled tomatoes nestled on top of a croissant and topped with hollandaise sauce and served with home fried potatoes and your choice of toast, French Toast or "Heavenly Hot Cakes" The hollandaise sauce wasn't the best I've had, but they are not stingy with it like some other breakfast spots I've been to. It was a proper dressing. It's a nice twist. I finished off my plate, but I still prefer the original version. The home fried potatoes were nice and crisp. I ordered the Heavenly Hotcakes that accompany it, but was too full to even sample it. Mom ended up finishing it off for me lol. I came with a party of 7. Everyone's food looked great. Our waitress was attentive and the food came out fairly quickly for how crowded this place gets. Back of the house and front of the house have got a great rhythm keeping up with the busy crowds. But then proceeds to make wait in an additional list for walk ins and online due to complaints from guests not taking advantage of the yelp guest list. My partner ordered a skillet. We both found the main dishes were bland. The omelet was cooked too long and the cheese on his dish wasn't melted. The potatoes were tasty. But the pancakes made up for the egg dishes. They were the best I've ever had. The coffee was good. The server was attentive and we received our food fast.
