I had used Rooter Hero a couple of years ago and was pleased with their service. On 6-23 I schedule an appointment for my rental property that had a plugged drain.The tech (Rodney) was 1 1/2 hours late for the appointment. He explained that he needed to remove the toilet but would honor the $77 drain clearing coupon that I presented. It took him 2 hours to remove the toilet and in doing so, damaged the flange that secured the toilet. After 6 hours, he said he cleared the line. He advised us that we should spend $950 on hydro flushing. He then presented me with a $3500 bill to fix the flange that he broke earlier that morning. I was able to negotiate the bill down to $400 ($200 cash and $200 check) It look another 2 hours to reinstall the toilet ( a 9 hour call) He left and when the tenants started using the drains 20 minutes later, the toilets were once again overflowing. I called another plumber and the drains were clear in about an hour. I contacted Ken from Rooter Hero and he refunded my money. I appreciate the companies attempt to make things right. I requested service for a snake job for a slow draining bathtub/shower. The technician tried snaking it through the overflow rather  than the drain and the over flow pipe broke. The technician advised me that he would have to remove the cast iron tub (And possibly having to cut through tile) and/or remove an entire vanity and sink along with a toilet, to access the pipe. A quote of $4300 was given. Although it seemed like a lot, I agreed, because I knew the amount of labor involved would have been significant. The next day the technician showed up with another technician, who advised that they would be able to access the pipe by cutting through the vanity and dry wall. No removal of anything previously stated  was required. The total time the two were on this job was about 5 hours, minus 1 hour they were gone to get the new supplies (4 hours at the job site). The job was completed without the removing of anything, other than the drain pipes under the sink, and the hole cut through the vanity and drywall. When the technician was getting ready to collect payment, I stated that the total must be significantly less than quoted, since the labor was extremely less than originally thought. The technician advised me that his supervisor told him it would be the same quoted price.   After contesting this with the technician, he advised that he could call his manager if I wanted. Of course I did.  The manager agreed to take $1200 off of the original price, since he agreed the labor performed was not as intrusive as first thought. I still couldn't fathom that the price to remove a sink pipe, cut a small hole and replace a small pipe in the tub, could be $3100.  The manager assured me that this was an industry standard price. And also assured me that they were not in the business of gouging customers. I paid, begrudgingly.  My intention is to fulfill this review once I have two other plumbing companies give me an estimate for the same job, with the exact same process. If I am wrong in believing the price is way too high, I will eat my words. Either way the review will be completed appropriately. If whoever reviews this can honestly tell me that the job completed, is an industry standard cost of $3100, then again I'll eat my words. Rooter hero will rip you off and take advantage of your vulnerability. I called them because I had a leak in my ceiling in my 2 story townhouse. They came out, made a hole in the ceiling, snaked my drain and charged me $1,000+ to do it. Then they told me I needed to replace both flanges in my upstairs bathroom for a cost of $6,000. Luckily, a friend advised that I get a second opinion. I got 3 more opinions who all confirmed that my flanges did not have any holes or defects and were NOT the cause of the leak (it was just a backup) and do not need to be replaced! I then had a leak again and another plumber from Rooter Hero told me that it's due to the flanges without even inspecting the issue. The leak was due to a broken seal in my shower door, which an honest plumber found during his $90 visit. This company will scam you, take your money, and not even fix the issue. Do not trust these people! Are they even licensed plumbers?! Who knows. read more

Don't use these people. Hydrojet was expensive and they said they couldn't really clean the line totally...that I needed a "de-scaling". This was a scam to get me to pay a de-scaling job of 3,800. This, of course wasn't correct. Had someone come the next day and totally spent the time to clean out the roots with the Hydrojet. Didn't take them that long..maybe 40 mins. read more

They never followed through after I sent an email explaining the situation. Stole $199 from me. This is what I got out of my drain that the professionals could not. They also blocked me on Facebook so I couldn't warn other potential customers of their scam. Update as of 7/14/19 they did refund my money and apologized for the mishap on their part. They made good on my situation so I've changed my review to 3 stars. Some of the good things is they gave a free estimate originally. So I would just get a couple estimates as anyone is capable of making a mistake. read more

I have had clogs in the past that a simple cable snake would clear. They wanted 1200 for a jet?!? I have easily seen companies that charge less then half of that. I got suckered into replacing my main. While in fact it needed to be replaced this company lied to me and told me that i would have to move out of my house. "This house can not be lived in". I felt extremely pressured to get the job done. With a straight face they wanted to charge me over ten grand for a 25 foot section of the main sewer. Im only 40 and they gave me a senior discount. They came into the apt and told me to fix the "mechanism of the toilet" will be $680 but, I will get a $200 discount so, it only will be $480. At this point I was saying that I will just buy a new toilet...lol I called another plumer the next day and he came into the apt and quote me $70 to fix the " mechanism of the toilet" I will never call Rooter Hero again. Be wary of one such plumber Mike who will aggressively refer to you to one very unethical water damage restoration company - Water Damage Rescue (see previous review) to help you wrap up emergency jobs. It's the standard "my 'friend does a great job and I've known him for years" jig where buddies swap clients. Had I taken two minutes two hop onto Yelp, I would have seen the numerous legal notices sent to his longtime buddy. You, too, can research the same. The result of going with Rooter Hero/Mike's recommendation? Incompetent, reputable and unreliable contractors/subcontractors who will add to your plumbing woes and lead you down a path of legal recourse. DM for the sample termination letter, if you need a template. And, Rooter Hero plumbers? Expect them to neglect your follow ups and move on from your concerns to unsuspecting suckers who haven't gotten to reading up on previous disastrous reviews. Way back in 2005, I had Mr Rooter (now called Rooter Hero) replaced 30' of my main sewer line in front of my home to the city street connection due to tree roots clogging the line. A couple of days ago I had another plumbing company do a camera inspection that showed that the new sewer line connection in front of my house had shifted and needed repair. I found my original contract that stated a 25 year warranty on parts, labor and drainage. I called the now named Rooter Hero (of San Fernando Valley) to see if they would honor the warranty. They sent out Ken and Rodney (who were very pleasant to work with) who did their own camera inspection and agreed to have the problem fixed at no charge! That same day they sent out Gilbert (a real asset to this company) who worked tirelessly for 6 hours by himself and not only fixed the problem but also included a 4" clean out drain that should have been included back when the job was originally done in 2005. 16 years later Rooter Hero honored the warranty and didn't charge me one penny. He put snake through drain...and kept adding water to check if it is ooen..once he was done the floor was wet and the wall was dirty..He did not even attempt to dry the wet floor he made messy or clean the wall he make dirty. I just had my drain opened... by another company! The guy from Hero "tried" to open our drain, then explained that to do it he would have to... blah, blah, blah; $1761.00!!! But he also wanted to charge us $300 just to remove the little drain cover in the tub so we could replace it, which is when my rip off alarms went off. This SOB stood in my house and lied to my face. I don't want to mention the name of the EXCELLENT company that actually opened the drain for less than $100, but if you click on my name you should see my other reviews and you can get it there. We recently hired Rooter Hero Plumbing to install an external clean-out. We paid $2,692, which is above the $2,000 average for this service, and more than double what other plumbers quoted us for the same thing. Here's what we got for that price. The good: * The plumbers were fast and courteous. They quickly identified the problem, and they got to work right away. It only took 1 1/2 days to complete the job. * When a leak behind our washing machine occurred 1 day after the installation, they sent a plumber out right away to attend to the problem, free of additional charge. This man was very attentive and responded to the situation by replacing a hose behind the washing machine. He also fixed some minor issues going on with both of our toilets as a courtesy. That was really nice of him, and he represents Rooter Hero well. I believe his name is Oscar. The not-so-good: * They are not above using bait-and-switch tactics to get business. We called Rooter Hero because we redeemed a coupon for a free camera inspection. When I asked for the file that should have been made when they sent their camera in, I was told that is a paid service. I just paid $2,692 to get a clean-out installed. Then they want to go back on their coupon and ask me for more money for the video file. * They are also not above using pressure tactics to up-sell you on services that you may not need. Using words like "worst-case scenario," to describe relatively common plumbing problems seems a little below board to me. So does suggesting the most expensive repair to that problem without running us through a gamut of alternatives. Overall, I came away feeling that they care more about their own bottom line than their customers. Maybe that's all we can expect these days. I had a toilet on the second floor that did not flush well. I was told the iron drain pipe was corroded after camera inspection and needed to be cleaned out with epoxy coating applied or the pipes needed to be replaced. I was told that would cost $16,000! I asked another plumber who said the house is only 30 years old so there is no way they needed epoxy treatment or replacement. Rooter Hero replaced the toilet which solved the problem but they charged me $1780.00. The toilet cost only around $400 dollars so the service to inspect the drain and replace the toilet was $1380. Really? Bottom line: Rooter Hero overcharges and wants to take advantage of you. Lesson learned: Always get a second opinion and don't trust this outfit. read more

These guys show in nice vans and nicely dressed technicians. They will Ipads in their hands. They will run camera and give you a very expensive plan. Their prices are at least 40-50% higher than normal. I would advise on not using them and go with a local plumber who has reasonable cost. read more

These guys are great! I've had my experience with shady plumbers in the past, and these guys really gave me faith that good plumbers exist. I really liked how Cory insisted I get involved with the process and showed me how they ran the camera down my pipe to find the root problem. Luckily, they were able to fix the system without removing my tree. The pricing was a little little more expensive than what I wanted, but the quality of work is great. I came downstairs after taking a bath and saw that the ceiling was leaking. I called Rooter Hero and they sent a very nice guy out the same day. For $600.00 he cut 2 holes in the ceiling under the bathroom and told me I had rats but he couldn't find a leak. To make a long story short, I paid $600, to have 2 holes cut in my ceiling. They wanted me to use a repair company for $7,000. Ultimately I found the leak. The overflow was not connected. I hired a contractor who repaired the ceiling for much less. I was very impressed with the work Frankie did at my house! Though the work was pricey I feel more confident that my mainline will drain. New 2 directional clean out , de scaled 2 times, epoxy blown in mainline to back of house, and an epoxy liner blown in to sidewalk. Because the cost was over $23,000,I did ask for things like new hose bibs, wax rings under toilets and Frankie installed my faucet and new piping to the pipe behind wall They also had someone fix drywall that was cut. Called Rooter Hero (San Gabriel Valley) for emergency repair work on a leaking and "rumbling" water heater. Technician Andrew (Drew) Sherick came out same day and installed a new heater. He was knowledgeable, conscientious and answered all my questions. A hard worker, Drew spent long hours, even into the evening, to insure the work was completed and correctly installed. Next morning Drew arrived early at the house and waited for 5 hrs+ for the city inspector to come and check his instalI! Also had a water filtration system installed by Drew that hopefully will alleviate any future piping and plumbing problems for years to come. After they investigated a stoppage problem in the sewer plumbing they were only able to fix 1/2 the problem for $77. They said to fix it completely it would cost another $7500 to dig up the sewer line. I was able to get another plumber for $150 to fix everything. These clowns wanted $1500 to replace a pressure regulator valve, which the repair unsavvy people who were home at the time they arrived were almost ready to pay. When I heard the quote my red flags went off. They made it sound like rocket science and the most complicated job. So we watched a Youtube video, bought the parts ourselves for $270, and easily replaced it in under 30 mins. If you call them have someone knowledgeable and repair-savvy there to check their prices. $1500 in this economy? That's over $2000 an hour in labor considering how short the job was!
