I love coming to roots! Last time I ordered a chai latte with a decaf shot of espresso and it was DELICIOUS.

Did some coworking at Roots Brew Shop recently for the first time. There was plenty of street parking available but no designated parking lot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was pretty busy but we managed to get a table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We weren't near any outlets but I did see a few scattered along the walls.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe is pretty cozy with mismatched chairs and what look like church pews.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered a flat white with oat milk and Nate got a pour over. The prices were pretty cheap, lower than most coffee shops in the area (only $5 for a latte) which was nice. They also took my name for my drink which I loved! They also have a small food menu with bagels and spreads and sandwiches. I do wish they had some more fun seasonal options for coffee drinks, the menu is pretty basic. Some other cool features of this coffee shop include gender neutral restrooms with vacant/occupied locks (love those) and a wireless printer. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was pretty loud while we were there, but I have noise canceling headphones which helped.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Definitely a busy spot, so if you need an outlet I'd recommend getting there early.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I liked this coffee shop but I think I'd pick Ferris over it (which is next door). Still, if I'm in the area again I might stop by.

Roots Brew is my favorite spot for bagels! They're always fresh, and the spreads are amazing--definitely worth trying. Their sandwiches are solid, nothing too fancy, but simple and filling, perfect for when you need something quick. The coffee is okay, nothing exceptional, but it gets the job done if you need a caffeine boost. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What really stands out is the space itself--tons of seating and plenty of outlets, making it an ideal study spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Chairs are wooden and a little uncomfy (they do have some conversational couches) but overall the natural light and great ambience create a cozy environment to hang out or get some work done.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Quaint little coffee shop located right across the street from Ferris Coffee. I was introduced to Roots by my chiropractor when they gave me a few packets of the Roots brew bags to try (coffee in a tea bag that you steep). We finally got to make it in person! Husband got a large Hazelnut Latte and I got a large Lavender Latte. We also got two loaded Asiago bagels, one with scrambled egg, bacon, and cheese spread and the other with salmon, capers, and dill spread. The coffee was good, of course. I really like that they were able to make their loaded bagel toppings into actual spreads, so it's neat and clean when you bite into the bagel since everything is whipped together. We didn't have chunks of egg or lox falling out all over the place, which I really appreciated! Service was quick as we beat the mid morning rush. We'll have to try their loaded waffles next time!

Local coffee shop my bf has been wanting to try for a while! Located on the corner of an apartment building (not sure what one) and near Ferris Coffee. The inside is very comfy with mismatched furniture and plenty of places to sit for almost any size party if you're there alone or with a few. My boyfriend ordered the Americano and seemed to enjoy it. I ordered a Hazelnut Latte and asked for oatmilk as a dairy alternative. They also have almond milk for an up charge of $1. We didn't try any of the food or snacks available but I'm sure we will be back soon to try more of their menu. I will definitely be back :)

Cute place! I really like the hipster vibes and the mismatching table/chair theme. They've got a nice selection of "fancy" bagels. Jimmye and I dabbled a bit and were pleasantly surprised ! I opted for the everything bagel with the smoked salmon and capers spread. Wow! First off, these everything bagels have roasted red peppers.... why didn't I ever think of this! The subtle heat from the bagel really went well with the salmon spread. It was so good ! I also had a light roast drip. One thing, the creamer wasn't easily accessible so maybe they can put some creamer around. They also have waffles on Saturdays! Jimmye had the apple pie waffle and said it was fresh tasting and full of apple chunks. I trust him I would definitely come back and try other items !

Solid place to catch up with friends or crank out some homework. It's a popular spot and gets quite busy during high times. They have an assortment of seating options, which include old church benches, which adds to the character of roots. Their coffee isn't anything "special" per se, but it's good coffee none the less. I no longer live in GR but will usually make a stop at Roots every time I'm in town visiting family and friends. This most recent time, I got a black medium roast coffee and it was delicious.

When I told my friends I was visiting Grand Rapids for five weeks, Roots Brew Shop was the most recommended coffee shop. On the west side of the city surrounded by industrial buildings repurposed into condos is this large coffee shop. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but once inside, you'll see how big it is! They make good use of the space with booths, couches, chairs and tables scattered throughout the open space. Outlets are plentiful and wifi is strong. The coffee menu is generous and I was happy to see six different latte flavors. Drinks come in small (12 ounce) and large (16 ounce). My hazelnut latte was creamy and under $5 (unlike other coffee shops).

Roots is a whole community within itself! I'm telling you guys, it is ALWAYS busy when I'm in there and I'm always lucky to find a seat because Roots Brew is THAT LOVED by the Grand Rapids community. You guys will love it too! Stop by Roots, grab a coffee and a baked good, and enjoy their beautiful space!!

If I lived in Grand Rapids, I would go here all the time! Isn't it wonderful when Yelp leads you to the perfect place? I sure think so. I was very grateful to wake up needing to do some computer work and find Roots Brew Shop to do so. When I arrived around 8:30 am, there were only two or three other tables in there and it was very quiet and peaceful. By around 11, when I left, it was much busier but still felt mellow and comfortable. This coffee shop/brew shop is much larger than I expected with lots of natural light from the windows, beautiful local artwork on the walls, and quaint mismatched tables and chairs. The furniture reminds of a grandmother's home with lots of wood and pastel colors. The tables are spaced out enough so that there is plenty of seating but enough space between tables that you're not overhearing everyone around you's conversation. The barista was very friendly and chill and I ordered a LaCroix, a coffee and a rosemary and salt bagel with veggie cream cheese. The coffee was tasty and the bagel was super delicious. I'm not sure if they make them themselves or buy them but they were thin, large bagels and mine was flavored perfectly. I could taste both the rosemary and salt without it being an overwhelming savory flavor for first thing in the morning. I was very happy with my simple breakfast. I stayed here and did work for 2.5 hours and felt cozy and happy the whole time. I might even have to make another stop here again before I head back to NC.

Lavender oat milk latte, so good! Thanks for making our day extra special!

Chill comfy seating, delicious not acidic espresso, local art displayed for sale, free parking on street, walkable from fish ladder park. Sweet & thoughtful staff!

Sometimes you just need a place to escape the hotel room, crack open the laptop, and get some work…read moredone. That's exactly what brought me to Midnight Express Cafe in Grand Rapids. Apparently this is a favorite among the local college crowd, and I can see why. The space is big, bright, and inviting. There were groups of friends playing card games, plenty of people working on laptops, and an atmosphere that somehow felt both fun and relaxing. The vibe check? Passed with flying colors. It wasn't perfect, though. If you're planning on working for a few hours, be prepared to hunt for actual working power outlets because they're surprisingly scarce. My chai latte also left a lot to be desired. It wasn't bad, just forgettable. Then came the açaí bowl. Organic açaí blended with blueberries, mango, blue agave, and coconut milk, then topped with granola, coconut flakes, chocolate chips, honey, strawberries, blueberries, and peanut butter. Oh... my... goodness. I was not prepared for what arrived at the table. Every ingredient tasted incredibly fresh. The fruit was vibrant, the granola had amazing texture, and every bite felt like the perfect balance of sweet, creamy, and refreshing. It wasn't just delicious--it was one of those dishes that makes you stop what you're doing because your full attention suddenly belongs to the food. Here's what makes that statement carry some weight: I live in an area of South Florida surrounded by a huge Brazilian community. I have no fewer than six dedicated açaí shops within eight minutes of my house. I've had a lot of açaí bowls over the years. Without question, Midnight Express Cafe serves the best açaí bowl I've ever had. I never expected to find my favorite açaí bowl in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but here we are. Sometimes the biggest surprises happen in the places you least expect them.
