My wife and I tried this place after seeing some very good reviews on Yelp. I ordered the chicken dinner and my wife ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich with the hot sauce on the side. She loved her sandwich with the fries. My chicken dinner was very good. The chicken was extremely moist and the coating was totally edible, which for me is rare. It is usually tooth breaking hard and a trip to the dentist. It just needed a touch of salt and it was perfect. The mac and cheese waffle was different in that one must get used to seeing pieces of macaroni in a waffle. The maple syrup provided with it was very good too. Fries come with the meal although there were too many for me to finish. For dessert we ordered the empenada with vanilla ice cream and it was out of this world. Alex was our waitress and we will be looking for her again. I want to come back for the short rib tacos which I hear are superb. It was a very nice dining experience. read more

This is a great bar, with lots of great drinks and local beers. But I come for the food. Unique items like the 'fried chicken' and the supersized cod sandwich keep me coming back. Rarely a restaurant makes you question every life decision you've made in 2017, but Roots in East Norriton has managed to do exactly that. I went to Roots with a few friends, and was looking for a good brunch experience, instead I was treated to a sad display of humanity that would rather take smoke breaks and serve cold food than stay in business. I ordered a burger, and I got meat. The toppings that were on it were good, but they were wrong. Shoestring Onions and Onion rings are not interchangeable. The roll was also a regular potato roll you can grab from any supermarket, as long as you went to the discount goods section with the stuff that is about to expire. Two stars, only for the bartender that was extremely courteous and tried to alleviate the dissatisfaction of the customers as best she could. She may be the only person who cares about this establishment. I surely do not. read more

We can't say enough about our experience at Roots! The moment we walked in the door we were greeted by a friendly, masked, face who allowed us to select a table of our choice. They had multiple tables that were marked off appropriately for social distancing, which we were happy to see! The staff was wonderful, informed, and appropriate throughout the entire meal! The quality of the food was amazing and they were happy to make any adjustments needed for the meal as we are a vegetarian couple with a gluten allergy. The specials were unique, delicious, well portioned, and very reasonably priced! We can't say enough about the entire experience! This place is better than good! I met 3 friends for a late dinner and cocktails on Saturday March 5, 2017; I heard wonderful things so I was really excited! I had the goat cheese crostini and the ahi tuna wrap for dinner (along with two cocktails). The crostini was my favorite item as it was creamy, crunchy and slightly sweet (due to the balsamic vinaigrette); the arugula also added a slight peppery flavor that tied everything together, make sure you get this wonderful appetizer! The tuna wrap was fresh, contained may healthy ingredients but it still felt like an indulgence. The fries that accompanied the wrap were crispy and cooked just right. I had the Roottini (I think) and it was the perfect drink! Not overly sweet and it didn't taste too much like alcohol (it was exactly what I was looking for when I explained my desires to the waitress). Our waitress was WONDERFUL, I can't remember her name (unfortunately!!) but she helped myself and my friends pick our meals and she was able to tell the bar tender exactly what I was looking for in regards to our cocktails (2 of the other girls got the same drink). She was friendly, she knew exactly when to check on us and she got everything right. She was also good at engaging with us without being over the top. I was having a stressful week and she really helped to make the night special. The combination of the food, the drinks and the waitress made it a perfect hat trick! Oh and of course the company of my wonderful friends! I highly suggest trying this wonderful place, you will not be disappointed!!! I an't wait to bring my fiance so that we can try the brunch! This has become a good go-to spot for me and my girlfriend since it is super close. Place is always clean and comfortable, and I've always gotten great service when sitting at the bar or at a table. We usually sit at the bar since it is usually the 2 of us so special shout-out to the bartenders! It's a little on the pricey side but I'm willing to pay a little extra for quality and I always have a good meal here and the draft beer selection is always pretty solid with seasonal beers. I'd make a specific recommendation but now that I've tried a few different things you really can't go wrong here. I had dinner at Roots last night and while the entertainment (two guitar players) was very good, the rest of the meal was a disaster. I had a tasteless burger with goat cheese. One of the members of our party got physically ill from their burger or the calamari and another found a hair in their short rib grilled cheese sandwich and fries dinner. They took the one entree off our bill due to the hair, but unfortunately there's nothing they can do to get us to return. read more

Went here for brunch. I ordered the following... 5 Cheese & Bacon Grilled Cheese described as: Sliced fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and green basil, seasoned with salt and olive oil. There was one slice of orange cheese and no noticeable fresh mozzarella at all. There was also no basil and no seasoning. It was a bland grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and tomato. This place used to be Guppies. Since the new ownership, the service has gotten WAYYYYY better! The menu has improved by a lot and there are great specials for the weekend. Read some great reviews and this place was close by. So we went for it. Was greeted with big smiles from everyone working there. Was seated quickly. Got the menus and our waitress was very patient with us and telling us the all the good things on the menu. My mind was made up prior to arrival due to the reviews and pictures of the chicken, Mac & Cheese waffles. The vib was very nice, really enjoyed this place. Started off with the short ribs taco & honey chicken bites. Tacos was good, meat was seasoned very well. The chicken bites was awesome. Had the Tropic Thunder and that didn't disappoint. It was a very smooth cocktail. Wife had the Pub Burger, and she said it was very good. I had the chicken, Mac & cheese waffle with fries. The chicken (3 pieces) was very good and seasoned well. AMAZING FOOD! My boyfriend and I stopped in one rainy Sunday evening. He picked the place, so I wasn't sure what to expect and I was so pleasantly surprised! The bartender (Joe was his name I think?) was also our waiter and he was very pleasant :) We started with calamari and it was really well fried, not overly chewy or freezer burned, and it came with the most wonderful tomato jam! Our waiter agreed that the jam is amazing and let us know for next time it also comes on the tacos (the jam is unreal, seriously! It's not listed as part of the calamari description on the menu, but soOOOOOO good!). My boyfriend got the Short Rib Grilled Cheese and liked it a lot. The sandwich was huge for a grilled cheese and the fries were also really well done! I got the Fried Chicken and DUDE! Words can't describe it! SUPER crispy and the five spice maple syrup was unlike anything I've ever tasted (in a good way!). This is chicken and waffles elevated! I also had one piece of chicken leftover and it was fantastic the next morning :) I wish we had pictures, but when we got our food, we were too excited to eat to pause for a pic..... I was at the grand opening of former Guppys in east Norriton now known as roots real food real beer and what a complete change from the decor to the menu. Came in at a 6PM on a Wednesday, there was only one table seated besides us. The decor is eclectic and not very inviting. Service was slow, with only one server, though another appeared later. My friend ordered a raspberry lemon cider and hangover burger with fries cooked medium. His drink was quite good, and the burger was cooked appropriately and tasty. I got chicken fajitas and a martini. The fajitas had too much peppers/onions and not enough chicken. The martini was weak. The food is pricey though for what you get, expensive for average quality. My friend and I were told to check this place out when we went to palaramos, and it was the best decision ever. This place has an awesome clean healthy vibe and very spacious. I truly cannot get over how much I LOVE this place! I was born and raised in West Norriton and always wanted a great local place to have a cocktail at and a good meal. If I wanted that I would have to venture to KOP or Plymouth Meeting because that was always the closet option. Years later now of course that I live in Reading now there is this awesome little local restaurant called Roots! God I wish this was here back in the day because it is a hidden gem behind the Friendly's in East Norriton and boy is it awesome! I have been here a handful of times and every time I am so torn on what to get on the menu because it all looks and sounds so good! Well guess what fellow yelpers?! That's because it all is! Everything is so fresh from farm to table. All local vendors which I think is fabulous. I had their pork belly sliders, their short rib grilled cheese, the ahi tuna, broccoli soup, French onion soup, spaghetti and meatballs (boy are those big, delicious meatballs!), fish tacos, their honey wings, and key lime pie! Everything so fresh, tasty, and super delicious! I have always had a good meal here and I honestly want to try every dish on the menu. It truly is THAT good! I am always so torn on what to order because I just want it all! To make matters worse they always have a good specials menu too! This place kills me because it's so good. I wish I didn't live in Reading just so I could come here more often! The owner here is very nice too! He spend some time with us and the little one and we had a really nice conversation about the restaurant and other fun things about life. Very down to earth guy and I always find it nice when owners come by to the tables to get to know their guest. He genuinely cared about our thoughts and can tell he cares a lot about his business and his guest. I am not a big beer person but they have a very nice beer list and have a lot of rare options and tasty ones too. If you are a beer fan definitely come here for that (and clearly the food because I cannot state enough how good it is!) I cannot wait to come for a Sunday brunch and try out the Bloody Mary bar and some good breakfast food! I will have to venture up there sometime on Sunday because I'm sure it's Great! I'm shocked this place has decent reviews. In theory it should be good, the execution is just way off. Decent menu items, but you're not getting what you ask for. The craft brew and burger special was only for drafts beers apparently. The burger was actually hard. The calamari was chewy and old. The ribeye was more of a flat iron. It's bar food at best with culinary prices. Won't be back unfortunately. read more

Was just there for a drink and apps -- the beer menu is ho-hum, the food was just ok and the service was very slow, despite the fact there were as many servers as patrons on a Sunday evening. Visited Roots for the first time last week with some family & friends for dinner. We all had something different from the menu and none of us were disappointed... from the appetizers, our entrees, through to desserts everything was absolutely delicious!!! Our waitress was very attentive and helpful with recommendations- even down to my glass of wine. The owner even stopped by our table to make sure we were happy with our food and service. The huevos rancheros here very some of the best I've ever had. They lose a point for service which was chilly and took a long time and for the cold, poorly executed hash browns they served. Also my husband was given a dirty fork. I probably wouldn't return because of the distance and the sterile environment. It just wasn't a very inviting place to go.
