I haven't been out to the Tahoe Truckee Industrial park in awhile, like years, and I was surprised to see there was an Indian restaurant here now. There used to be hardly anyplace to eat except fast food, like Burger King! Roots, is located right after the first truck stop after you get off the freeway, just turn right and you're there. I thought I'd check it out and I saw there was a lunch buffet offered all weekdays from 10 an till 2 pm for $20 per person. I know a buffet is a way to please the whole crew. We've been to many other Indian Buffets before and I know my guys really love Tandoori Chicken and naan. So I went in to check it out and holy moly, this was the most dinky Indian buffet I ever saw! The steam table was like 1/3 the size of most buffets I've been to, but if they have what we like, it might still work out, cause there's a lot on an Indian buffet I just don't eat ... OK, some of the things in those tubs are just a little too weird for me. Some of the tubs weren't even filled yet. But the deal breaker here was there was NO Tandoori Chicken! I never heard of an Indian Buffet that didn't have the most common dish, Tandoori Chicken! I asked and they said no Tandoori Chicken! There's no way I can take my crew here, we'll have to find some other place to eat. I had high hopes, but this Indian place ain't gonna work out for us especially at $25 per person including tax and a little tip, this buffet isn't worth that. There's pizza, Chinese and Mexican just up the street. read more

First time customer. Phone order was made for Vegetarian biryani. Arrived to great friendly service.Plenty of lighting and seats. Food was hot and ready to go, paid and left quickly to only find out I was given paneer (Not Vegetarian) Biryani instead. By happen chance, my friend and I attended the Grand Opening of Roots. I have been so excited to try this place when I saw the sign on Parkway. When we arrived, we were promptly given our table. Before looking at the menu, we had to decide between the buffet and a la carte. I wish I had a chance to review the options of both, but we felt rushed by the server to make a decision... we opted for the buffet (cost is $22/person I believe). The food was just ok, definitely not worth the price. I got the chicken tikka masala. The spice just wasn't there and the meat was dry and didn't taste like it was marinated with any hung curd. On top of that there were literally 5 small pieces of chicken in a decent amount of sauce. In a pinch it's edible but if you're headed to Reno I'd go with a different Indian food spot. read more

First time to order a Mango Lassi and it did not disappoint. It was so refreshing and I actually loved it. The Chicken Tikka Masala was so good. I ordered for not spicy and they delivered it. I ordered the Chicken Korma. Had to add rice extra and ordered regular naan bread but got garlic which was fine. The rice was great, the chicken was tender and the naan was delicious but the Korma had almost no flavor. Very disappointing. I got mild for heat also and it was still pretty hot. Well I come here every other week for work in this town, and tbh it's just a very solid food option in this little place, as close as your gonna get to having some kind of sit down restaurant in town and the service here is always amazing, there is young gentleman who works every Sunday and Monday and for some reason he's always working when I come, so very clearly a well managed family spot. Definitely will drop by next month. read more

We traveled to the Reno Area from Los Angeles for a baseball tournament. We were pleased to find an Indian restaurant across the street from our hotel and decide to give it a try. Wow! As soon as we walked in the door, the hostess just silently stared at us for a minute with a look of "wtf do you want?" on her face before we had to tell her that we were there to eat & would like a table for 2. The hostess was also the waitress, & the service was just as subpar as the greeting. She seated us with menus & brought a small bottle of water that only fills 2 glasses, then took a long time to return for our drink order. I said I'd just have water & my spouse inquired about their drink menu as it wasn't listed on their menu. The waitress just looked away toward the kitchen without saying a word. He once again had to take initiative & ask, "Fountain drinks? Over there?" & she simply nodded. We then placed an order for 1 appetizer & some naan. She left for about 10 minutes before returning to take our meal order. This is when I noticed the dirty utensils on the table.. Roughly 8 minutes after that, she came back to verify our order, this time with her notepad in hand, repeating everything except for the appetizer. Great, so that was never put in this entire time.. The meals came out about 15 minutes later, before the appetizer & naan which were ordered first. Throughout the entire wait time, I drank the 2 cups worth of water, emptying the bottle. When she brought us the food, she simply moved the empty bottle out of her way without inquiring if we'd like more. *She never brought more water, so I was drink-less throughout the entire meal. The naan came out shortly after the meals, which worked since we were able to use it while eating our food. Then the appetizer came out last. About 5 minutes into our meal, which meant that we hardly even picked at it since our actual food was already in front of us. Upon completing our meal, we sat there for about 10 minutes after she cleared our empty plates before finally giving up & going up to the hostess stand to ask for a container for the appetizer & our bill. The bill wasn't even correct as the fountain drink & appetizer were never on there, even though we reminded her about the appetizer when she finally decided to write down our order. The experience was utter trash with the service being slow & chaotic, but the food, however, was delicious & flavorful. If you're looking for a nice dine-in experience, this isn't it, by far. If you're ordering some good takeout, that's really all this place is good for, but they may get your order wrong. read more

New Indian restaurant on usa park is amazing. They're priced very fairly. I got butter chicken and garlic Naan and if I wasnt inanely full I'd go back for lunch break tonight. Service was good. Friendly staff. The restaurant is a refreshing change to that joke of a Philly cheese gimmick that was there before. Everything was clean and good ambience. I'll be back! read more

The food was excellent--we ordered butter chicken, tikka masala, and garlic naan, and everything arrived piping hot and packed with flavor. Today has been my worst experience at a restaurant. Which sucks because I love Indian food. The guy who took our order couldn't understand us even when I ordered what was on their menu. Then when we asked for drinks he said okay. Would disappear for a while we'd ask for our drinks he would then say oh we don't have that. Then why didn't you tell us when you realized you were out. He asked us fountain or can, we say fountain he brings out can. I am sure it's a language barrier but even then it felt like he doesn't know how to be a good waiter. Ive done it and I know it can be stressful but as customers we want there to be at least a good service. I was extremely disappointed. read more
