I was very impressed by the menu size and quality of food at Maharaja. Certainly worth the visit! Maharaja is located on the edge of Midtown, with their own parking lot. Super convenient to access! Upon walking inside, you are greeted with a massive dining room, bar, and well-designed space to enjoy. My dad and I dined in for dinner. We ordered a lamb dish based on teh waiter's recommendation and the king's naan as well as some cucumber raita. I was truly blown away by the depth of flavor they were able to develop in the lamb sauce. It was so savory and well-spiced. The king's naan was hot and fresh. I have never seen the concept of stuffing naan with minced meat before baking, but it worked perfectly and created a savory bite- especially amazing when dipped in the sauce it's served with. I can't claim to be an expert at Indian food. I did spend a week in Mumbai and ate around the world quite a bit, but I really only ever get Indian food when I get the random itch for it. So all I know is whether I enjoyed it. We had the Indian food staples of garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, lamb rogan josh and goat biryani. It was great. Service was fast and attentive. Ambience definitely felt like a finer dining. The cost was reasonable for the quality. So yeah, I like it. Go try this place. read more

Maharaja made for a wonderful Mother's Day treat for Fritzie. First and foremost the food is great. There's no complaints there, but they didn't have Bhindi Ali, their Okra dish, it saddened me some. The rest of the meal I hoped would make up for it. We enjoyed their sampler (assorted snacks) which were an assortment of meat samosa, veggie samosa, chicken pakora, veggie pakoras and Aloo tikki. Delicious yet sizable bites to get you going. Their Lamb Curry, wonderfully made, tender. The sauce it was made with was delicious, the protein itself was gamy as to be expected, but day two after taking some home and eating it, not as much. Their Saag Paneer is what you would expect from most Indian restaurants, served piping hot, good cubes of cheese for texture and added flavor. Their Chicken Tikka masala was delicious, creamy, flavorful along with their garlic naan and of course we had to get Mango Lassis to drink. These are go to's in my opinion to determine your experience. They have to get these right and they didn't disappoint. The service was good, our waiters and hosts were kind and accommodating, I even got a little bit of history behind some of their wall art, the ambience was average, plenty of patrons holding conversations, enjoying meals, the music wasn't too loud from what I can recall, but it definitely carried the average volume. We sat in the bar until our booth was ready. We started with the snack (appetizer sampler platter) and loved it! Then we got the lamb korma and chicken kabob and both were amazing. Four of us tried Maharaja because our other Indian go-tos were closed on Sunday. Simply the best flavored Indian cuisine we have eaten in Reno by far! Everyone agreed the food was excellent. I almost always have a problem with getting food at the right (hottest) spice level. When I ordered my Vindaloo and was asked for a 1-5 rating on spice I said 6 out of 5. The waiter questioned me three times (seriously) before putting the order in , but when It came out I was thankful that for the first time in years, a restaurant served me authentic hot Vindaloo. Good food solid service the only slightly almost negative thing I can think of is the royal/palace guard vibe is a tiny bit weird for me

My kids came with this time and enjoyed the pineapple shrimp curry and the mango curry (I forget the unique name of the mango dish but on the menu it had a crown icon and was not the mango one with the basil)-- both entrees were ordered in mild. These flavors were completely new to me, I've never had curries from an Indian restaurant that tasted like these. The pineapple curry was sweet but a little tangy and reminded me a bit of Thai curry (perhaps turmeric was really elevated in this curry?). The mango curry was also very sweet, it almost tasted like a sweetened butter chicken curry (specifically the northern Indian version of butter chicken-- if you know, you know). My son said the sweet flavor of the mango chicken curry reminded him of orange chicken from Chinese takeout and funny enough I thought it actually kinda did too! While these dishes were a hit with the kids (ages 7, 5, and 2) most adult tastebuds would prefer ordering them with at least some spice to balance out the intense sweetness (otherwise it can just seem "1 note"-- but 1 note "mild" was absolutely perfect for our young children who find even ground black pepper to be "spicy" haha). Maharaja Royal Bites, you just keep impressing me! I'm super happy we found these kid friendly options in your menu. Oh, ps, the kids LOVED their fried chicken appetizer too! Yelpers, ahelpful tip, we've noticed that here a "mild" spicy level can vary based on the dish. Having visited once before with mixed results, I returned with an open mind--and damn glad I did. This experience was a complete turnaround; from the moment we stepped inside, the stunning decor set the stage for an evening that exceeded our expectations in almost every way. From the first time we went; they removed their indo-chinese menu as well as dosa's but that was okay given the result. Exceptional Hospitality The service began on a high note with a warm, genuine greeting. We were seated almost immediately and impressed by the efficiency of the staff; water was poured and drink orders were taken however Menu's took a bit. The food arrived with beautiful presentation, accompanied by complimentary rice. Here is how our selections fared: Chicken 65: A fantastic starter. It was seasoned perfectly and served as a great tasty app. Chicken Kebob Masala: This was a standout. The ground chicken kebobs were cooked just right, juicy, and full of flavor. Chicken Karai: Another winner. The chicken was tender, and the sauce was rich and deeply savory. The Naan Selection: We indulged in a variety, including two Garlic Naans, a Garlic Cheese Naan, and a spicy Bullet Naan. Each was served hot, fresh, and served as the perfect vessel for the curries. A Note for Improvement: While most dishes were excellent, two fell a bit short of the mark. The Chicken Biryani was unfortunately overwhelmed by an excessive amount of cardamom, making it a bit too strong to eat. Additionally, while the Lamb Boti Tandoori had wonderful flavor on the outside, the meat was quite chewy and was overcooked, leading us to leave about half the portion behind. While the hospitality was top-tier, there were a few minor "growing pains" in coordination. We were approached by different servers to take our order multiple times, and there was a slight mix-up at the end where a second bill was presented after we had already provided our credit card for the first. Three of us went here for dinner on a Thursday night. We were dining early, so had no problem being promptly seated. The interior is really nice. The walls are a calming deep blue with a black furniture. It's very elegant. Our server came by to take our drink order while we studied the menu - which is very expansive. Once the drinks arrived, we placed our dinner order. We started out with an appetizer sampler platter. It was accompanied with a mint sauce and a sweet sauce. Each of the appetizers were delicious. So were the sauces. For dinner, we ordered chicken tiki masala, and masala mixed vegetables. We had them spiced mildly, but all agreed we should have added more heat. Nonetheless, each dish was delicious - very flavorful and in a wonderful sauce. We also had an order of garlic naan and an order of a fruit and sweet naan. Like the rest of the food, they were amazing. The service is spot on! The staff came by on multiple occasions to see how everything was or to ask if we needed anything. All at our table ordered different items (chicken, lamb, vegetarian, etc. and all were excellent. I recommend asking if they can substitute flower rice for the plain rice that comes with many of their dishes, it's so flavorful. I came here with a colleague on a business trip, so I wasn't expecting much, but when we first walked in, we were welcomed with celebration, as we came in during Diwali. The restaurant itself was beautiful inside as well. We were seated quickly and were given a good amount of time to review the menu. My colleague had a question about the menu and one of the cooks came out to address it, which was so nice of them. There were several options that all sounded delicious, but we decided to trust the menu and pick some of the indicated favorites, and they did not disappoint. We got some samosas, garlic naans and two types of curry. Everything was delicious, I wish I could have eaten more, but it was also super filling. Already, I cannot wait to go back! The atmosphere is out of this world. It doesn't feel like a Reno restaurant, but rather like some fresh new life we really needed in the restaurant scene. The painted landscape and portrait murals, colors and vibrancy help you escape. Service was fast and attentive. We did not have a reservation (which I now know I would suggest) on a Friday night. However, it worked out in our favor because we got a high table in the otherwise empty lounge area and it was more private and quiet. No complaints! The food was a flavor bomb and portions are very shareable. We ordered fish pakora, a spicy chicken dish and a mild eggplant dish. The spice levels are mild to Indian spicy, so pick your poison. Dishes come with rice, which was a pleasant surprise. Do yourself a solid and get the garlic naan, pickled veggies and mango chutney as accompaniments. I think the flavors were even better the next day on our leftovers, so I'm excited to try many of the other dishes I saw on the menu in the near future. Superb date night spot. read more

A new favorite in town. Some of the best biryani and naan available here. I always order my favorite, chicken biryani, and theirs is excellent and flavorful, but also has the best best spice level in town. If you like spicy biryani, I got mine hot on a scale of none, light, medium, hot, and extra hot; and it was the perfect level of being right there without crossing over. The garlic naan and butter chicken were also divine. Parking can be tricky but they are one of the few places to have at least a small parking lot in midtown, but be sure not to miss it on the right side from the street. Lastly, the service is amazing and the restaurant is beautifully decorated, but the staff do line up along the walls facing you when not tasked, which can be amazing for some and off-putting for those not looking to be fussed over. I don't know what you all are doing if you haven't dined at Maharaja! Nothing here disappoints. From the beautiful decor to the amazing service and then the food! Omg! Welcome greeting, prompt service and immediate water service and drink orders. We ordered the saag paneer, shashi paneer korma and lamb saag accompanied by two orders of garlic Naan (and complementary rice). All excellent! Indian food is my favorite. I make my own paneer and attempt my own dishes at home, but some of these dishes can be complex in labor and spices. This is the place to go for delicious food and hospitality. My daughter just ate all my leftovers tonight while I am writing this review and said, mom, we must go back! Our waiter, Karan, was excellent and made sure we were well taken care of. Extravagant decor from the wall outside to everything inside. We knew the service would be great by the way we were greeted as we walked in. Then the food, delicious. We had heard from many Yelpers that we had to visit Maharaja and they were of course correct. We started with Masala chai and assorted snacks (meat samosas, veggie samosas, chicken pakora, veggie pakora and allo tikki) served with mint/cilantro chutney and a sweet sauce. This is a large appetizer even for two people. Very tasty. My chicken coconut korma was very rich with perfectly tender chicken. The aloo palak is a vegan dish of spinach and potatoes in a rich gravy sauce. Wonderful flavor. Both entrees were served with rice. Naan and papadam completed our meal except for the mango lassi I couldn't resist. Not sad I didn't resist, it was so good. Maharaja is a beautiful restaurant with fabulous food. Definitely a night of dining royalty! A friend and I had been talking about coming to Majaraja for some time now and upon discussing dinner before a movie...I thought it would be the perfect time! There is some parking in the back enough for maybe 10 cars, but I think by Miguels there may be more. I made a last minute reservation for my group and they were able to accomodate that. I was really surprised upon walking in, the restaurant is huge and beautiful with majestic blue and a large mural of the Taj Mahal. It was breathtaking. I studied the menu I told my friend who is Indian but boy it always gets overwhelming narrowing down the choices. So many appetizers plus the main meal. I ordered a mango lassi, chicken biriyani, and garlic cheese naan. No one else in my group opted for appetizers so I skipped it this time. I loved every bite and sip of my food. The rest of my group was please as well. I've had mango lassi previously but this one was the perfect iced temperature. The chicken biriyani although mild had a small zing to it, but I did fine and the garlic cheese naan was perfect. My friend asked for a salted lassi which initially they stated they were too busy but I guess they went ahead and made it anyway. I was looking forward to trying a dessert but there was just way too much food (no appetizers even!) Really loved this restaurant! My friend and I ate here on a day trip out, and we both found the food to be quite authentic and tasty. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala White Meat, and while I was expecting the classic sweeter taste, I was pleasantly surprised that the dish was spice-ful and tasted authentically Indian. It was "true" Chicken Tikka, at least in my opinion. She got the Chicken Biryani, which she said was quite good but fairly spicy (she got the Hot, a score of 3/4). We recently tried MRB for our Thurs Date Night. Great ambiance, lovely decor and we thought the service was pretty good. We loved the murals and art inside, and we sat near the bar and that had a cozier, more intimate feel than the main dining room, almost night club like. The menu is expansive, and featured most of the greatest hits of Indian cuisine, and lots of other entrees, apps and desserts were haven't seen anywhere outside of say, Sacramento. We started with a Snack Sampler, which had a few pakoras, 2 samosas, aloo tikki and some chicken bites with sauce, all were lovely. For entrees we shared the Chettinand Curry (chicken) and Lamb Saag. We added a side of mango chutney and mixed pickles, an order of cheese garlic naan and to our surprise, the entrees came with a dish of rice. The flavor and textures of both the curry and saag were delightful. Both were made to our requested spice level. The condiments were a worth-it add on, and allowed us to customize our entrees. Hubby departed from his usual dessert choice (golub jamun) and selected Ras Malayi, custardy little cheese bites flavored with rose, cardamom and pistachio. Heavenly! The only downside to this experience had to be the shockingly small dishes for the price. (see photos) The dish of rice we weren't expecting was literally the size of the entrees. I get it, it's elevated Indian/Punjabi cuisine, but it was still a little surprising. I think we'd return tho, it's that good - just with our expectations adjusted accordingly. When they painted the big, beautiful and vibrant peacock feather on the exterior, I had hopes that these proprietors where going to make a lovely interior space for their restaurant. I finally went and saw that they did! The restaurant is lovely inside...clean, tasteful and upscale decor (even a gas fireplace in the bar!). I had the GRILLED chicken tikka. The flavor was excellent. The chicken was full of flavor and tender. But, I will not order that version again...why? Because the joy of Indian food, for me, is dipping my Naan bread in gravy! This dish did not have much gravy - it was full pieces of chicken on the bone. Speaking of Naan bread...they have like 10 different flavors! I see this restaurant as even being fun for a group happy hour. The bar can certainly accommodate a group of 10+. You could order 1 of each Naan bread and have a sampling! Maybe they would even serve Tikka gravy on the side for dipping. It was delicious and I will return. read more
