We stumbled upon Roots when we were having lunch in Port Jeff and what a delight our Kavatender (not sure if this is actually a word) was! I forgot her name but she was very welcoming and adorable. Plus she liked our dog and encouraged us to come in. She educated us on Kava and the ritual associated with it. We each had a bowl and I quickly understood why it should be drunk in one fell swoop. It's because it's very very bitter! I believe the translation of kava is actually "bitter". Next time I might add some coconut some thing. With that said, I did definitely feel tingle in my mouth and I felt very relaxed. I had a slight case of the giggles. I would like to come back again with some friends and try some other things. Roots is very cozy and I would have liked to have stayed a little bit longer and play some games they make available. Great first time Kava experience and I will definitely be back. I recommend Roots for a laid-back, social get together with friends.

We stumbled along this place while taking a stroll on a Saturday night and decided to check it out because it looked pretty chill on the inside. When you walk in, it looks like a bar - but it's not. The worker told us all about the type of drinks they have and where it comes from, and she was super sweet about it since we were pretty ignorant. We got to try a couple drinks on tap and a couple drinks in a can. Spent over $40 on four drinks - pretty pricey but we were really curious. Atmosphere is so laid-back. They had a musician come in and play guitar at the front. They have tables and chairs in the front and back of the building. They have multiple games you can play. There's chalk to draw on the walls and they apparently get rid of it weekly, but display it on their instagram. There are coloring books and art pads to draw on. They're so relaxed that they had a TV and people were playing their own Nintendo. Super chill. We stayed for about 3 hours. For a Saturday night, I loved every second. She said they'll soon be hosting events such as Paint night. I competely loved the vibe here and I would so come back again. They opened about a month and half ago - so definitely go and support!

Great place to relax and enjoy a nice tea or shell after a long day of work! The vibes are a great mix of cafe/bar culture. I've never had a bad experience with the staff or customers who come in. Please, from one yelper to another, try this awesome Kava Bar!

There are no strangers at Roots, Just friends you haven't met yet. The kava-tenders; Mel, Stevie and Becks (as I call her) are glorious in all their duties. The atmosphere is unique and can't be duplicated anywhere else. Plus there are so many events each week there is something for everyone. Also, Angela who left the bad review just celebrated her birthday at Roots, see my photo.

Great laid back beach vibe with excellent service! If you don't know much about kava or kratom they will explain it all. Catch a buzz with great music, atmosphere, and no hangover

Love this place, I go here almost every day. They have a great selection of tasty drinks and everyone is always super friendly and very informative if you have any questions about their products. They have a lot of fun events, and the aesthetics are beautiful, also inclusive because you can chalk draw on the walls! Overall, one of my favorite places. Highly recommend!!

Bad customer service. Rude staff. This place went severely down hill since the change in ownership.

Upon arriving back in NY yesterday, we were vexed with the options for dinner; wanting a wine bar…read morewith Old World characteristics, food being of relative importance. We read a recent review where someone proclaimed the owner to be nasty & unfriendly (sure, I am paraphrasing). Those types of reviews are generally emotionally charged and written by plebs I find. More on that toward the end. Pulling up to a rather unassuming east end Long Island small shopping plaza drenched in rain; opening the door, you are taken back to a semi rustic and dim interior. Perfectly elegant in its bucolic charm- with nice lounge music playing. It is a sit where one likes atmosphere. This is meant with the utmost of respect and candour. We were greeted kindly by the proprietoress (Jacqueline), and handed pleasantly robust binders with the wine list and food. Deciding to treat this in the more European café type, we had glasses and charcuterie. I, the Sagrantino, and her the Kerner. Jacqueline was vocally pleased with our interesting choices. The night drew on, more wine ensued, more food, multiple conversations, and I completed reading through each page and wine choice...finding much to be recognised and appreciated (Kirwan, Moric, Georg Breuer to name but a few) At the end of the night, I asked Jacqueline to pick an appropriate nightcap. She not only delivered, but gave us a wonderful story including the provenance and her experiences - ultimately, the word genius came up more than once. To wit, there was nothing here but an exceptional experience with a like-minded wine enthusiast. I felt welcomed and in the frith of old kin. Nasty, belligerent, dullard atmosphere- indeed not. The apps included: chickpea fries, Caesar salad, spicy tuna crispy rice, French onion soup, and jumbo shrimp cocktail. Entrees included: tavern burger, Monterey chicken club, cobb salad, fish & chips, roasted cauliflower 'steak', and lobster roll (either cold or warm). I went with the chickpea fries, which were very crispy on the outside and extremely creamy on the inside. It is coated in a layer of chickpea powder and then fried. It was very interesting and i'd order this again. It paired well with the harissa aioli. For my entrée, I got the beer-battered fish and chips. My fries were much thicker than everyone else's, and they also came with potato chips that tasted oily. I didn't love the fish and chips and wouldn't order this again, but my friends enjoyed their burgers, shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, and roasted cauliflower steak. Service was good. The wait staff checked on us many times to make sure everyone got their food and that our water cups were full. The outside of Mirabelle is beautiful, and we saw it being set up for a baby shower. Near the bar, there is a sticker machine that takes quarters and offers stickers featuring the Inn, espresso martinis, dirty martinis, and a burger.

The overpriced lobster roll did not have any large chunks that would be recognizable as lobster but did have finely shredded mystery bits. The weather wasn't ideal for a winery visit, but it was still a lovely experience. I'll definitely try to book a reservation again during the warmer months to enjoy it even more. The potato was pretty good took. I didnt mind so much grass (lettuce) for once. The cheese on top of the lettuce is pretty salty but the creamy dressing balances it out. The spicy sauce on the side was way too spicy for me. 3/5 Bavarian pretzel $17- pretzel itself is standard, comes with honey mustard, spicy brown mustard, & mayo sriracha. I liked both of the mustards. 3/5 Meat & cheese board $59- didn't try the meat or bread but comes with grapes, cranberries, dates, olives & nuts. Everything I tried was decent.

Cool spot with a Manhattan vibe "behind" Main Street in Patchogue…read more The reason this is key is because, since they face out to the firehouse and residential areas, parking USUALLY isn't a problem. There's a small lot that's free and you can park on Jennings. (sorry residents). We went on NYE so had to park several blocks away. No biggie. The inside is dark and cool with a city-vibe. Ample bar space and 1-4 tops an some banquet seating that lets you look out over the street. We were greeted right away by what turned out to be our server and seated promptly by the windows (we had a reservation). Also greeted by a gentleman that we think might have been her dad. The young lady hustled all night and managed the crowd well. We never waited too long for her to check in on us and she was very helpful with selecting wine and clarifying menu items. That being said, THIS IS A SMALL PLATES JOINT. People expecting full-sized portions should adjust their expectations accordingly. We did, however, order the Trastavere seafood platter (medium) which came as a tower and seemed impressive. Two types of oysters (large and medium) were presented; briny and fresh and pretty damned tasty. There was also a ceviche and tuna tartare that was, unfortunately, a bit unremarkable, as was the shrimp cocktail (though the shrimps were pretty hefty). The American "black caviar" was a nice way to commemorate the meal. Nutty with a pop of salinity but maybe something you can skip. We meant to order the Carne e Formaggi but got the Gamberetto instead which was fine as it was pretty tasty nonetheless (made with shrimp but it almost tasted like smoked salmon). Virgola Manhattan was good but pretty standard. Follow-up drink of dirty Manhattan was blissfully salty and cold. But back to the menu: we are unsure if they have an actual kitchen back there which would also explain the small plates concept and oyster and chilled fish options. The bruschetta was tasty, as mentioned, but it seems like they cut and toasted the bread and topped it with the crudo. The other bruschetta options featured ingredients from other menu items that could be re-purposed for multiple dishes. Smart but expect this. We plan on returning and trying the charcuterie board (mix and match cheeses and meats) and some cocktails. Overall, a nice night out and a nice option for dining and drinking around Patchogue. Cheers!
