    Lemon Tahini and Cilantro Lime

I've been trying to eat cleaner and this place looked like it fit the bill! The portions are huge and the options straightforward but plentiful. Service was quicker than expected, and the taste was off the charts. I particularly liked the cilantro lime dressing and roasted sweet potatoes.

YE Gurl Eats: The Bowl Boss Life at Roots Natural Kitchen Date: July 3, 2025 Location: Roots Natural Kitchen (via Uber Eats) Vibe: Delivery Diva Meets Healthy Hustle Let's be real-- when the Midwest is giving pizza, beer, and meat, a girl needs an occasional break- not like I eat meat though too. And thanks to a perfectly timed Uber Eats credit plus a BOGO deal, Roots Natural Kitchen came through like a green goddess on a delivery scooter. I've had them before and lemme tell you--I LOVE this place. These are the grain bowls you dream about but rarely get to keep in rotation unless you're meal-prepping with intention. What We Ate: Two El Jefes ($12.95 each) Bulgur wheat + whole grain rice + black beans + avocado + charred corn + cilantro lime dressing = yes, Boss. I swapped the chicken for one mushroom bowl and one tofu bowl, then hit it with "the works," fresh lime, and a dash of Tabasco. Balanced. Bright. Satisfying AF. Two Pesto Caesars ($12.95 each) A remix of a Caesar that doesn't drag you down. Pesto, lime-pickled onions, cherry tomatoes, bulgur wheat, and pita crunch. One bowl had mushrooms and tofu, the other just mushrooms. I topped my first one with a lil' smoked salmon to zhuzh it up. Let me break this down: 4 bowls fed me and the beau for 2 full days --lunch and dinner. And unlike many other "healthy" places that disappear in an hour, these bowls had flavor, structure, and staying power. Roots is a grain game-changer in the land of ribs and PBR. So if you need a break from all things fried and cheesy, pull up the app or oder online, grab your greens, and let the bowls bless you.

I totally forgot to take a picture of the menu but they have different kinds of bowls with a salad base and a rice base. They have make your own bowl as well. The place was clean with plenty of seating inside and out. I went on a Saturday around 11:30am and there were many parking spots (some are free, some are not) but this might be a totally different story depending on the day and time since it's very close to OSU. I had the Corner Cobb which had lettuce, kale, grilled chicken breast, avocado, boiled egg, rice (wild rice kind), sweet potato, cucumber and corn. It was around $13 but the bowl was heavy! Chicken chunks were big and nicely seasoned. It came with tzatziki dressing. I'm not too fond of it usually but am so happy I gave it a try! It was nice, savory and refreshing but not overwhelming (some tzatziki sauce to me is a bit too herb-y). They also have limited time flavors - which right now is Korean chicken. I don't live close but I am definitely going back to try it! The service was friendly and fast (though there were no other customers when I visited). They lost a whole star because the music was on SO.LOUD. It was so loud I couldn't hear what the staff was asking me right over the counter. This was my first visit and I had a couple of questions about customizations (like if I could take out 1 ingredient but add something else) but I gave up because I just could not hear anything over the music. My husband and I left rather quickly because it was so loud we couldn't hear each other and I started to have a headache. But I really enjoyed the food so I highly recommend! If you live close by or if it's a nice day, maybe take it to go or eat out.

A co-worker suggested Roots Natural Kitchen for lunch so we placed a take out order for about 10 people. There are two ways to order ahead of time and neither are that great. The first is through Door Dash (if you want delivery), however Door Dash increases the prices of everything by $2-4 which is annoying. The other way is through the Roots mobile app (since everyone needs an extra app on their phone?). After calling the restaurant to see if we could just order over the phone, they politely directed us to the namesake app, so we succumbed to downloading it. Unfortunately, you are only able to place 7 entree orders on the app at once, so we had to make two separate orders for our group. The menu is easy to navigate, with signature bowls, or build your own bowls. Each bowl consists of two bases (grains or lettuces), vegetables, cheese, protein and sauce/dressing. I went with the Balboa, but we had a good variety across the group. The parking is quite limited which is another downside. However since it is located right in the heart of campus, I'm sure they get a lot of food traffic. The food itself was phenomenal and surpassed my expectations. They also give you a very generous portion size. I would definitely get it again, but probably order during an off-time as it was extremely busy over the lunch hour (not surprising).

The most amazing salad/rice bowls I've had. Mind blown.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. My favorite casual salad/bowl place. I was visiting Columbus, OH for work and wanted something refreshing and healthy. They have so many unique options and pairing. You can easily assemble the bowls to your liking. I got the Southern bowl with mushroom added. I made some modifications but can't remember exactly. If I'm ever near a location that has Roots - I need to come back again!

Goodness! I would have died to have such a delicious, fresh, and healthy vegetarian option on my college campus back in the day. Move over fast food and below standard microwavable meals, Roots Natural Kitchen is where it's at. So, let's be real. This fast-casual restaurant is right in the heart of OSU campus which means there is barely any parking, there's a good bit of construction going on, and it can be a little difficult getting to and from unless you're on foot. Once all that dust settles, the rest of the experience is top notch. The space is clean, there's indoor and outdoor seating, the staff was super friendly and the food was amazing. At Roots you can build your own bowl or select from one of the several precrafted options they have on their menu. You can also order off the menu and make adjustments if you'd like... And that's exactly what I did. I ordered the El Jefe which came with brown rice, kale, black beans, corn, red onions, avocado, pita chips, and feta. Instead of getting it with chicken I added the BBQ tofu. It also came with a cilantro lime dressing, fresh lime juice, and some hot sauce. The portion was enormous and it was so delicious, I did attempt to eat it all... Although I failed miserably. That just goes to show you how big the bowl was. You can order both takeout and delivery directly off Yelp so I'll definitely be returning.

I'll be honest, my first time coming to Roots, I was not sold. I did a create your own bowl, and with so many ingredients to choose from, my bowl ended up being a hodgepodge of good ingredients that did not fit together- cheddar, carrots, egg, kale, sriracha and pesto! Moral of the story... I would recommend one of their signature bowls which already have the perfect combo of ingredients! When I was convinced to give Roots another shot, I got the Balboa, which comes with many things including brown rice, avocado, and feta. This bowl was excellent! I have since been back a few times with plans to return soon. The portions are large and filling but the ingredients are fresh and healthy so the meal is guilt free! With tons of indoor and outdoor seating, it's hard to pass up when walking along High Street. The only downside is the price; with this bowl being $13.75, unfortunately for many college kids, a little pricey to be a regular rotation. That being said, for fresh, tasty and healthy food, Roots is the place!

El jefe bowl. Delicious! It looks bland, but there are layers of goodness in here. They didn't skimp on the avo!

Wow, such a great first experience at Roots! I ordered takeout here, it was ready on time, sitting on the side shelf. The staff was all really kind when I walked in, and the food is incredible. The chicken has the perfect flavor and tenderness to it. The rice is cooked perfectly. I could tell they cleaned their black beans. The corn was nicely roasted. The kale is chopped to a good size, the pita adds a great crunch, and they didn't skimp on the avocado. It was an expensive bowl, but it's a good amount of food. Highly recommend!

Roots is one of my go-to places when I want to eat a lot but feel healthy. The food is delicious in my opinion (with so many options) and perfect if you are looking for a healthy, tasty, fast-casual setting! I typically make my own grain/salad bowls but they also have signature bowls to choose from. I have had Roots catered for a lunch work meeting, highly suggested. My only ding is that the prices have risen and it can get pricey quick, especially for a campus location, so definitely not a regular eating place for me.

My friend and I came here around noon on a Thursday for lunch! Have been wanting to try this place for a long time. We just walked there from campus but parking would be a little difficult around there. The building was a lot bigger than I thought it was from the outside! A decent amount of seating and a nice feel inside! There was a little wait but not long! The menu has premade bowls and create your own. The premade bowls sounded very good but I decided to make my own. There were lots of fresh options that worked well together. Loved the cilantro lime sauce. The chicken wasn't my favorite but it was good and they gave a good portion. Pretty full after my meal! Would come back and try some other options!

Southern bowl but I substituted the cheese with sweet potatoes. It's an 11 out of 10 from me.

For breakfast, we ordered two Mushroom Frittatas, a Fresh Buttermilk Biscuit, and a side of Housemade Breakfast Sausage. The Mushroom Frittata featured three hearth-baked eggs with roasted mushrooms, sweet onions, and Gruyère cheese, served alongside breakfast potatoes and a peppery arugula salad. It was flavorful, hearty, and incredibly satisfying. Although I informed the staff about my peanut allergy, I was surprised to find the crispy breakfast potatoes on my plate, which left me uncertain whether the allergy request had been fully communicated to the kitchen. The Fresh Buttermilk Biscuit, served with strawberry preserves, was one of the highlights of the meal. It was flaky, buttery, and wonderfully moist, pairing perfectly with the sweet preserves. The Housemade Breakfast Sausage consisted of two peppery pork patties that were juicy and well-seasoned, making a great accompaniment to the rest of the meal. Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich was phenomenal! It was wicked crispy, the size of my head (quick makes this a HUGE value... not that my head is that big, but order it to get an idea), bun was not soggy at all, and it did not disappoint. Chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy, not chewy at all, and seasoned well. Coleslaw added a nice vinegar contrast (I wish there was much more coleslaw but it didn't stop me!), sauce was smokey and slightly spicy, and the bun was soft. Chicken Tikka Paratha Roll was also a hit! Great seasoning, chicken was incredibly well cooked - melt in your mouth style - with small bits of char - vegetables were fresh, and the roll itself had great chew and flavor w/out being greasy (at all) or saturated. Fries were bangers too. Ready to eat my way through the menu. If it's this good when ordered, can't image what'd it be in house.

Another had the beef tips and thought they were just okay. Another had the egg noodle linguine which was way too oily. And another had the salmon which they thought was fishy and mentioned it to our waitress. Service was okay. Our waitress stopped by several times to check on us. The food came out pretty quickly but we were not in any rush. An okay experience but definitely did not live up to our expectations.
