The 2 stars are for the service and that's where it stops. We had never been in before so decided to try it out for a couple of tapas and drinks. We made it to the rooftop where we sat at the bar, as this is where we normally eat when we are out. The bar is surrounded by these long fans on all sides that blow so hard it knocks over your empty glasses. We had to back up from the bar to stay at out of the cyclone. The bartenders were attentive and explained that the fans were a Woodstock ordinance for outdoor eating. I get that, but why the industrial strength ones? These are the turbo fans you walk under when going through the automatic door at Trader Joe's or Kroger. So not necessary. Ruins sitting at the bar. We ordered a glass of rose and he ordered a Manhattan. He was glad that they used luxardo cherries and our drinks were good. We ordered the lamb meatballs and bacon wrapped shrimp. The meatballs came out and were luke warm, and the cyclone blowing on them made them cold by the time we ate them. There were 3 and smaller than Golf balls, but in fairness the server warned us of the size. The shrimp...ugh. My boyfriend is normally all about bacon and shrimp, but could only eat 1 if the 4 due to the floppiness of the bacon and stringiness of the shrimp...which were cold as well. AND...to add insult to injury, the bar TVs only service was through an Amazon Fire stick, so we couldn't watch any of the baseball or footballs games that were on :/ Very disappointed. We waited 20 minutes prior to anyone attending to us, to take our order. The waiter was not knowledgeable with what was available in reference to cocktails. We waited approximately 15 minutes for a Jumbo Lump crab dish that tasted like a low quality tuna fish...there were no distinct crab meat in said dish....Once we placed our dinner order's we were advised approximately 20-25 minutes later that the items we ordered were not available. Had dinner there last night (2/11/22). Let's start with the good, they have good drinks, we can't speak to their cocktails as we had only wine and whiskey. But their selection was pretty good. Also, if you order the crispy pork belly, the grit cake it comes on was really good. Finally, the creme brulee was very good, highly recommend that. Not for the rest. Service was atrocious, we were bussing our own drink glasses while praying that our server would stop smoking outside long enough to actually take our next drink orders, which we'd have to put in right away as pouring either wine or whiskey would take, on average, 15 minutes. The crispy pork belly was, in fact, thick cut bacon. There is a difference. And crispy shouldn't mean burned to a point you taste charcoal over pork. Next we ordered the chef's selection of meats and cheeses. As an aside, the menu gives little to no detail on any item, the chef's board was supposed to be explained by our server. We got our food, no explanation was provided, but thankfully none was needed. We've all seen, ham, turkey and meat pate before. Nothing special about any of those, the meats all looked like they were scooped out of wherever they came from with an ice cream scoop. As for the cheeses.... chedder, blue, and goat. Way to make a selection really stand out. For $35 you'd expect more that what was left over from the Subway down the street when they closed. I don't write reviews, but we both cannot get over how bad dinner was last night. A lot of us want to make date night without the kids special. Woodstock has a lot of wonderful places to get that, Rootstock is definitely not one of them. read more

Showed up on Friday night at 6:45. Wanted to sit on the roof. Could see from the street there were only 2 couples on the roof with 6 tables open and no one at the bar. Hostess said the roof was full, but could seat us inside. Not what I wanted. I said no one is up there I can see from the street. He said no it is full sorry. There are plenty of other spots to throw a hundred bucks away and in Woodstock. I will never go back. Good luck to the owners. read more

I love this restaurant. They have gourmet food and an extremely romantic atmosphere. They just opened their cigar bar and it's amazing. They grow their herbs and spices in the window and you can really tell from the taste. The only downside is if you want to go with a family it's not very family oriented. It's more for couples and adult parties. I just wish they had high chairs. I say that but I don't think taking my kid is a good idea till he can sit still. read more

I wish I had taken photos! I hosted a Zoom Birthday Party for my 90 year old MIL and asked her kids and spouses to join in person. Wanting some savory offerings to go with the cake, decided to order from Rootstock to make it a little easier. I ordered the Chef's Tray, House-made ricotta (8 Oz), bacon wrapped shrimp (2 orders) , smoked salmon, chicken stuffed piquillo peppers, pimento dip and the lamb meatballs. Five stars across the board...new to Woodstock and happy to find the go to restaurant for great food, excellent wine selections and beautiful atmosphere. Small Plates and Wine!!!! Yes, please! We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and were delighted to find a brunch menu...that was more lunch than breakfast with $2.00 per glass and $11.00 per carafe mimosas. Being Amateur foodies and self proclaimed sommeliers we found the decor, food quality and variety of excellent wines by the glass and bottle to be one of the best. This is not the place for watching sports at the main bar or in the restaurant, it is the place to experience amazing food flavors, great wines and great music. The staff is well trained in wine service and food pairings, they are more than willing to assist with selections and make recommendations. read more

We have been here twice. The first time everything was very slow but we thought that was staffing issues. Tonight was absolutely awful. Before reading, it's notable it was not busy, there were minimal people in the restaurant. We ordered drinks after we sat down (a glass of wine and a glass of bourbon neat) and waited 30 minutes for them. During this period they had a band playing and it was so loud we couldn't talk. We asked them to turn it down and originally they told us they couldn't but eventually turned it down slightly. We ordered an appetizer before our drinks came but decided at that point we should eat elsewhere. 45 minutes later we had drinks and the appetizer. It was "goat cheese fondue" that was just marina sauce with two little things of cheese. $70 later ($30 on bourbon) and 1 hour later we were so disappointed. We paid a babysitter and expected a nice date night but this was awful. The manager (I assume) came by and we expressed these issues and he said "hope we fire on all cylinders next time". Our server was so nice but the management here and how they deal with issues are unacceptable. read more

The food was fantastic! The waiter was able to describe the dishes and make recommendations. We loved the muscles and bacon wrapped shrimp the most but everything was very good. The cocktails were good also. We enjoyed sitting outside on the rooftop bar. The only negative was my friends and I didn't think the staff was very friendly the night we were there. As we were leaving, not one person said goodnight or please come back etc.. We all thought that was strange. However, the atmosphere, food and drinks will certainly bring us back. read more

This is my second time going there, wonderful atmosphere. When you walk in you feel like you actually want to eat there. The rooftop is amazing at night in the summer time, and even sitting inside is awesome as well. But the food! Each combination has an interesting twist that combines off the wall ingredients with things you wouldn't think would actually work. And than she you taste it, you can't wait for another bite. Went for dinner on a Thursday night at 7:30. I sat downstairs; the warm lighting and dark wood drew me in. The hot and cold tapas and salads are on a printed menu. Wines, spirits, beers, charcuterie, and desserts are on an iPad. Our server, Jaime, made recommendations based on our preferences and took extra care to find a wine that suited our tastes. The price points are great; most of the wines by the glass were $9-14. Highlights of the night for food: duck paté, mushroom crostini, and artichoke flatbread. This place is really filling a hole in Woodstock's restaurant scene and I am happy to see them here! A few changes would make this place AMAZING: Turn off the TVs! Take them away! I don't know why every restaurant wants to have TVs and sports everywhere, it kills the atmosphere. Fix the music, again it's an atmosphere thing. Instead of playing pop music chose what type of restaurant you are. Play French, Spanish, classical! Anything that fit the concept of your place. Right now this feels like a tapas/wine/sports bar and it kids of looses its integrity. Bonus with this place: Tapas plates are HUGE. No where close to a regular tapas size. Ya'll.....I am a 100% self proclaimed steak connoisseur and I have to say...the Steak and frites I had here last night was AH-MAZING. Literally with every bite I am making noises I shouldn't make in a nice restaurant. It is cooked perfectly and covered with chimichurri that is a bit limey and sooo good. I've been to Rootstock several times and have always walked away disappointed in their wine list and servers. But tonight was different. Ordered a Moscato off the sweet wine list and it was excellent. Went with two other friends and we shared the breadbasket, the pimento cheese (which had the best pickled veggies), bacon wrapped shrimp, tacos, and the mussels. I've ordered the mussels at several other local restaurants and this was probably in the top three for me. A pleasant surprise. One other notable was that they do serve beer as well. read more

Nice to have a top shelf establishment here in Woodstock, it's long overdue. The ambiance and décor are fantastic. We could easily hold conversation at our table without having to raise ones voice; I like that. It is a bit pricey, but I'll gladly pay the extra dollars to avoid the loud, boisterous crowds at other local places. Our waitress, Ginna was great, very friendly and knowledgeable; which was nice to see. The tapas we had were just okay, seemed everything was under seasoned. We had the Babaganoush, Margarita Flatbread and Mushroom Crostini, all required additional seasoning at the table. Of the three mentioned above, our favorite was the Margarita Flatbread. The Crostini could have been better if the bread was more caramelized with perhaps butter or EVOO and hand rubbed with garlic. The mozzarella had a strange texture and required additional salt. The Babaganoush didn't taste like your typical Babaganoush; we couldn't distinguish the Tahini, lemon, garlic etc. It also seemed somewhat over pulsed in a food processor if one was actually used during the prep. Overall we consider this a good experience and expect they will work out the kinks. Having said that, we plan to return in the future and wish the proprietors' success with their establishment! read more

Before I get started, this is the first time I have written a negative review for a restaurant in probably 5+ years so it was bad for me to do this. We even told them we didn't expect anything off the bill since we ate the food anyways. We were a party of 9 that came there for my birthday, the experience was even worse considering I came into town from Florida and this was a one shot deal. Some pointers: - The service was extremely slow when there wasn't that many people on the top floor. - We ordered a few cocktails and each one was served in the wrong glassware (wrong portions.) - Pork chop dishes resembled that of shoe leather from being over cooked. - Scallop entree was $29 and only came with 4 scallops, yes 4 lmao. - Roasted "half" chicken plates were extremely small. They were the smallest half chicken plates I've ever seen in my weekly business travel across the United States and my go to typically being, a roasted half chicken meal with a jus and veggies. The ones here were literally the size of Cornish hens or smaller. - The 24oz ribeye was flavorless - We ordered 2 "table sides" which were about 10-13$ a piece and the portion was literally the size resembling a personal ramekin. - The water was served from attempted "attractive" bottles but tasted like it was collected from a nearby chlorine treated swimming pool. - There was live music tonight and at one point, we thought a live cat was being skinned alive on the stage. We ate everything anyways as we already waited almost an hour and a half for our food and it was already 7:30 on a Saturday night so attempting to get in somewhere else would have been nearly impossible at that time and we were hungry. It's all such a shame considering the amount of highly rated reviews this place had. Bottom line, over priced food that was terrible, slow service and screeching live music, no personal service on a birthday. An all around atrocious experience. read more

We enjoyed 360 spectacular views of Historic Woodstock (directly across Woodstock's new amphitheater) while enjoying our fav wine while feasting on delicious tapas.  Rootstock & Vine is perfectly located in the center of Woodstock's main square giving you easy access to shopping, concerts, or just taking a romantic stroll with your life partner. We experienced  intuitive service from the moment we entered Rootstock and Vine (R&V) our drinks/food was expertly delivered by enthusiastic always smiling R&V servers/bar staff. Rootstock & Vine is wonderfully and tastefully decorated with a fabulous rooftop bar that seats over dozens and dozens of fortunate tapas diners, wine lovers,  and bourbon aficionados.  If you are fortunate to be enjoying a glass or two of wine/bourbon during a concert (e.g. Charlie Daniels this past May, Runaway June in September) you would get a twofer (delish wine paired with beautiful live music).  We thoroughly enjoyed our recent evening at Rootstock & Vine. read more
