We stumbled upon Century House on our way to the mountains, and wow--what a hidden gem. The service was incredible--friendly, gracious, and genuinely helpful from the moment we walked in. You can tell they really care about the experience. Brunch was next level. Stopped in for lunch randomly yesterday bc we were hungry and looking for a dog friendly place to eat. Boy were we blown away by the level of attention, care, and service we received. We were sat outside (obviously) with the dog. A man came out with treats and loved on our girl and we talked to him extensively about traveling, dogs, etc. He also brought out a bowl of water for her. We learned that he was the owner, Jon. Such a genuine and sweet man! Such an unexpected and honest experience with him. We ordered the Tuna Rice Cakes and Short Rib sandwich for lunch. Both were phenomenal! We are usually very underwhelmed with the food at most restaurants, but this was a wonderful change from that. We will definitely be returning many, many times. First time trying brunch here. We were seated quickly but didn't feel very welcomed this time. The hostess (blonde) just wasn't very friendly and didn't seem to want to be there. In fact none of the people we saw working there had a smile on their faces. Even the manager. Looked right at me with no acknowledgment. Not a good start. Our server Katherine saved the day and greeted us warmly. She was very friendly. We ordered the Fried Pimento Cheese Fritters. SKIP! $15 for flavorless balls that are TINY! Seriously, zero flavor. The rest of the meal was run of the mill brunch fare. The bacon was great! My eggs over medium were perfectly cooked. The biscuits and gravy were only ok because the biscuits were incredibly dense. The potatoes were good but every single thing we had desperately needed salt. I don't know why restaurants don't season their food anymore. I really like this place but I really want to LOVE it. The inside is so charming and it's a great place. Century House is falling into what most if not all Downtown Woodstock restaurants are falling into, mediocrity. Food, Service, SEASONING! Went for a family birthday party. My cousin had booked an outside space with tables in the lawn and we were allowed to also use the front porch. Definitely the way to go for a large group as the inside is more for smaller parties. Full bar with interesting cocktail. Charcuterie, other appetizers served as well as menu items available by order. Service was friendly and accommodating, and surprisingly efficient with such a spread out Gathering. At another time we might enjoy to share a meal under an umbrellaed table outside or a leisurely libation at the bar. Parking is limited in the lot, better to park somewhere for paid on the square or in garage a couple of blocks away. But definitely do stop when you are in the area or plan a day visit with walking post meal around the many shops and sitting areas. read more

The food was fairly good, but I cannot get past the filth of this establishment. The tables are literally black. I sprayed hand sanitizer on it and the wipe was black. The wall was splattered with food and debris, the cloth used to shield trash and cleaning supplies with dirty and stained and the bar area, was by far the most disgusting. It was our first time at the Century house and it did not disappoint! I had the chicken biscuit with a mimosa. The bacon jam was delicious and the potatoes were on point! Hubby had the steak and sausage breakfast burrito and our daughter had the fried chicken breakfast burrito. They both said their food was amazing. First time here. Our server was amazing! Food and drinks were delicious! We had the honey chicken tenders with fries to start then the feature, which was a seafood pasta for our entree. Our children both had the kids pasta, one had tomato sauce the other alfredo, and were happy. We really enjoyed the decor and atmosphere as well. This quaint little restaurant sits in a renovated farmhouse cottage, and I love that they haven't tried to redecorate too much and strip it of its history; the floorboards creak a little bit as you walk to your table, as if to say greetings from the past. Ther service is prompt, friendly, attentive, and management takes care of their guests when the food isn't as it should be. My son and I both ordered the CH burger, medium rare. They both came out medium well, but mind you, they were still good, just not cooked to the correct temperature. I brought this to our waitress' attention. To make things right, she offered to rebook our orders, but I declined, because I hate to waste food that is still edible. After we finished, the manager came out to discuss things, was very understanding about our concerns, listened to us in a way that let me know that he really wanted to hear our feedback in order to improve the establishment, and let's just say he more than made things right. I had been here years ago and it was just ok, was hoping to be wowed this time, especially as the reviews have remained consistently good over the years. First, the interior is tired. It needs a deep clean, a fresh coat of paint, and a refresh. It looks dated and just tired. Light fixtures caked in dust, really beat up walls. Doesn't scream "high end" like the price point would require. The cocktails I remembered as being a bit meh from my last visit but tried again this time. They were fine, but not great and I'd probably just skip ordering a drink next time. Tried the King and a seasonal old fashioned. They need to get large ice cubes if they're going to have a seasonal old fashioned menu. Especially a restaurant at this price point. The salmon was really good. Great, even. The "cheesecake" isn't a cheesecake...it's like a blondie in texture and size. Overall it just wouldn't be my first choice in the area. The quality of the food is complete shit at this point I don't know who's cooking, but they need to be fired and they need to hire new people because the food is complete. Shit they used to have specials like Bronzino and stuff like that no more it is literally disgusting. Their appetizers look like either a dog threw up on lettuce or taste like elephants completely. Five ladies were looking for a great meal in downtown Woodstock and after checking reviews decided to eat at Century House. We loved the look as it's in an old house converted into a bar and restaurant. While the prices were a bit higher than our normal selections, once the food arrived we knew we were getting our money's worth. We all enjoyed our selections. My French dip sandwich was delicious and more than I could finish. The ladies who ordered drinks were very pleased as well. The server was excellent too. He knows exactly what he wants and doing it very well. Sat at the bar and order the mussels with a kimchi & cucumber salad and a Scofflaw. The mussels were perfect. Very generous portion. Sophisticated sauce with a bit of crumbled sausage and incredible bread with a nice char for dipping. Everything complemented each other beautifully. The bartender told me she was a huge fan of the kimchi & cucumber salad and I am as well. Very impressive. For my taste, I'd cut the sweetness and hair and turn the spice up a tiny bit. For the average person eating it, I think it's dead on the money. Definitely the best lunch in years. I'm very excited to come back and try more with friends and family. Three years ago on yelp I gave you a five star rating. I am sad that the food has deteriorated so much. I often bring friends and relatives here and lately been disappointed with the food and often the service. While yesterday's service with Molly was good, the food was not. I hesitated for months to review Century House again even though the decline was noticeable. The hamburger we ordered that was supposed to be medium was raw. Only ate less than 1/4 that was on the outside edge that was cooked enough. The bottom bun was so soggy with blood you couldn't pick it up. The short rib sandwich too was so soggy it couldn't be picked up. BUT it was the lack of taste that made most of this sandwich stay there when we left. It wasn't good!! The only good things were the service and the potato curly fries. Not sure if Tuesday gets the second string chef or just having a bad day. I hate going out and not enjoying the food. It has been a long time since I last enjoyed eating at the century house. Enough is enough. read more

Could have been 4 stars but a couple of things were amiss. We were lucky enough to have nice weather and get seated on the side porch. It was early so there was no wait. First things first, I was craving a beer, but...nope, not a $9 IPA. I'd just had one of those same IPAs at another restaurant about 2 weeks ago and it was $5. $5 was the best I've seen and $9 was the steepest I've seen. The rest of the menu was OK and instead of a $9 IPA I chose a $9 bourbon, however, when the bill for our entire meal came well over $100 for everything) it was actually an $11 bourbon. I was paying in cash and told the waiter about the cost difference. He neither told us they'd do anything about it nor did he bring me any change. My date and I spotted this restaurant at the same time and made a beeline across the tracks for Sunday brunch. The ambiance is warm, relaxed, and local- absolutely charming old house. The menu offered an impossible list of competing choices. Bacon jam. Grits. Omelettes. Eggs Benedict with BBQ sauce Hollandaise. Burgers. Collard green egg rolls. Even "eenie meenie minie moe" didn't help. I ended up going for the biscuits and gravy (when in the South...). He got the Benedict with pork belly. I got (two) grapefruit mimosa(s). He got (two) spicy Bloody Mary(s) (alas, no bacon accompanied his drink). We split the collard green egg rolls. Neither of us could finish our meals.
