We decided to celebrate St Patricks Day by having dinner and drinks at Rootstock. Made a reservation and proceeded to the restaurant. When inquiring if we could have a seat outside, which is their rooftop bar/seating area, we were told their are no tables available, however we clearly saw multiple tables open when walking up to the restaurant. In fact 3 intoxicated woman, obvious friends of the owner, walked in after us and mentioned they didn't have a reservation, unlike us that did, they were told a table would be ready for them outside in 15 minutes. Strike 1. As we waiting for a table for 2, which 3 we're available inside, we waiting around 10 minutes. Not sure why, seemed ridiculous to stand around and wait for a table when clearly 3 were open. Strike 2. Finally after we were seated, dinner and drinks were ordered. The food was ok, nothing memorable, and the service was slow if not non-existent at times to the point we saw another server and asked for a refill/another cocktail. Strike 3. At this point we will not give this establishment future business, nor give a recommendation to friends and colleagues. Truly disappointing..... read more

I really enjoyed this experience. We ended up sitting upstairs with a great view of the downtown area. We ordered the pickled veg plate and a meat plate (essentially a charcuterie) and they were very good ways to start off a meal. Dinner entrees were the scallops and the venison tenderloin. Seriously good. The service was attentive without being annoying. I might have had a little too much wine which is why I actually ordered a dessert, which was also very good. This was our first time here, but what a great experience. Came in for brunch. Food was just different enough to make it interesting and delicious. Portion sizes were spot on and the price and value were a welcome surprise. Bella was our server and she was AWESOME. Great smile, very welcoming, knew the menu and preparations of all the dishes. Imagine this: you walk into a beautifully appointed wine and tapas restaurant. As you cross the threshold, the warm air eradicates the winter chill clinging to your body. The sight and sound of a guitar-playing, talented singer greets you. There are lovely low tables for dining, a glassed-in wine cellar to your right, and an inviting bar with high, comfortable stools in front of you. As you make your way through the brick-walled interior, a soft hum of conversation creates a counter-rhythm to the singer. You take a chair at the bar and see 3 bar staff behind it, all quickly and efficiently pouring glasses of wine or crafting cocktails. Before you can open your lips to speak, one of the bartenders whirls on his heel, places a wine glass in front of you, then spins on a dime, lifts a bottle from the rack, twirls, fills your glass, aerating the red wine with the pour, and again spins to place the bottle back into the rack and engages with the next customer. No words are spoken. No eye contact was made. You lift your glass, swirling the deep garnet in the glass, and dip in for a long inhale of the aromas. It is fruity, earthy, vibrant. The legs (or "tears," as they call them in Greece), are defined and moderate in pace. Your first sip reveals dry fruit, a hint of vanilla, savory cocoa, and a delicious oakiness throughout the entire taste. The finish is rich and creamy. So this is Rootstock and Vine. I admit, I am an intermittent regular. But when my foot crosses the threshold for the first time in MANY months, the staff know and remember my palate, pick the perfect wine for me, and MAKE MY NIGHT without a word spoken or even the flutter of an eyelid. Rootstock is a delicious, New American wine bar/restaurant in downtown Woodstock. We came here early on a Saturday evening, and sat in the enclosed rooftop bar area. Our server Jared was very knowledgeable and attentive! He literally made me want to order everything on the menu. I love when restaurant staff is enthusiastic about the food they are serving. We ordered two shareable plates, Asian pork belly on a grit cake, crab dip, and spiced meatballs. Both of the shareables were really good. I think the pork belly stole the show. For my entree, I ordered the bistro steak with ravioli. Not amazing, but very good! The best entree ordered by the table was my sister-in-law's pork chop. Man!! It was seasoned to perfection, and the accompanying sides were delicious. I would definitely order that next time I come back. We decided to end the night with a key lime cheesecake. Sooooo good! Even better, Jared comped our dessert which was so sweet of him! (Thanks Jared). All in all, Rootstock is a solid choice if you're in the downtown Woodstock area. I stopped in here for a quick lunch between shifts. I had the grilled pork chop with "cornbread grits", bacon braised collard greens, and candied Fresno peppers. Hands down the best pork chop I've eaten in my life. It was thick cut and on the bone. Cooked to a perfect medium. The inside was totally juicy, due to it being brined if my fine dining cooking experience tells me anything. The savory grits and greens contrasted so well with the sweetness of the candied peppers, then to round out the experience, a nice bit of heat, which I'm typically sensitive to. The taste experience was so great however, that I had to clean the plate. My favorite detail of the meal was the crystallized crunch of the candied peppers and the texture contrast that created. Interesting and awkward vibe. The food was good, but not really what was expected for the price. They definitely have a pretentious atmosphere and it's very intriguing as to why. This isn't that great of a restaurant and they are trying to be something they are not. My wife ordered the chicken and didn't want the andouille sausage on it and the "chef" using that world lightly, came out and made the statement of "he doesn't know why you don't want the sausage" with a condescending attitude. Does it matter? Absolutely not, and know your place. You're in Woodstock and you serve over priced and under quality food. Have a great day! Then Anna, why was a man wearing a white chef suite with the name of "Jake" claiming to be the chef? It sounds to me like you don't know who is even working in your kitchen. Pretentious gets you no where when you don't have the people in your restaurant to back up the atmosphere and prices that you are portraying. The entire elapsed time of service was 45 minutes and I was not acknowledged during the entire time from the bar staff. At any given time, there was 3-4 servers behind the bar. I was not the only one that had this happen to. Long story short, I sat at the bar for 45 minutes, was not addressed for service, and left. I'll go spend my money at another place that wishes to acknowledge me. To start, I will give grace to the issues that they had on Mother's Day. We payed a 60 dollar deposit for the reservation that was supposed to be paid back. We spent 6 hours to get mediocre food, my daughter's omelet had no cheese. This was supposed to be brunch, eggs, omelets, biscuits and gravy. When the check was presented, we were given a 60 dollar discount. But they never returned the deposit. Tried for several weeks to contact management but were ghosted. Still haven't heard from them. Still trying to get deposit back, discount was a lie and they won't even respond. Don't go here, they lie to you and won't respond. The food is mediocre at best. It's a waste of time and money. I can't even begin to give them a bad enough rating. I would welcome a response from someone as we can't get one so far. Maybe being shamed on social media will do something, but based on what's happened so far I have no hope . If I could leave negative stars I would, they stink. read more

We had reservations for Mother's Day at 12:15. Despite paying the reservation fee our table was not available so we waited at the bar for about 15 minutes before we seated at a table. Once we got to the table we waited about 20 minutes until we finally waived down a server. We did not have silverware etc. we waited about another 20 minutes until someone finally took our order. We waited about an hour for food to arrive. It was very clear that they overbooked the restaurant and the kitchen was unable to accommodate the orders. Once we voiced our concerns the server was very apologetic and did try to mitigate the situation. The food was fine but we will be not be returning for Mother's Day. We didn't get to leave the restaurant until 3 pm! read more

This is my favorite place in Woodstock. The rooftop view is spectacular, and the bartenders are extremely knowledgeable and remember what you ordered the last time. They also have great performers who sing and play instruments, adding to the cool ambiance. Well not exactly sure what to say. The drinks are a bit high, the food is really high and not too much, and yes I knew it was tapas but really small! Now the atmosphere is amazing, old exposed brick and fantastic lighting, live music occasionally and the most spectacular roof top view of downtown town. Moderately good drink menu. As for the location, it's in downtown Woodstock, on the west corner of the intersection of Main Street and Towne Lake Parkway. So all in all, I will come back, but it's not a weekly stop! Had an absolutely fabulous night (1/27/2024). We had a birthday party at the house at Thanksgiving for my wife's 70th and had Trey Odum entertain us. When we saw he was performing at Rootstock it was the perfect occasion to visit. We are bar people (as opposed to table sitters) and the elegantly lighted bar did not disappoint. Started with a nicely chilled draft while enjoying the music. I was ready for a refill and our professional and attentive bartender (pictured) already had one waiting for me. As we were not there necessarily to eat, we saw a waiter pass by with an amazing looking plate. On his return trip back by, we asked about it. It was a 'Share Dip' and he took the time to explain it. It was an amazing charcuterie board. For a night cap, I perused their bourbon offering and was not disappointed. Always nice to find and try something that I have not had access to at home.
