Since the restaurants have just started opening up, we were excited to do a pickup meal from the regal beagle. Our 11$ salad was the size of a small side salad. The waitress offered on the phone to put the dressing on the side so that it wouldn't get soggy, received the salad and it was saturated in dressing and ruined. I'm a bit torn here.. I want to give it 5 stars... but then again I don't, but don't have a good reason. Been here a couple times, most recent was Saturday, which happened to be their 8th anniversary party.. We swung by for dinner, but only had a couple apps and drinks as we had visitors heading over to the house earlier than expected. After they left, we pointed the car in the Regal Beagle's direction.. DRINKS: - well priced and good sized. The wine is poured by the glass, not by the ounce.. The glass was FULL, great value on a good wine. They had a good beer selection and the price was ok. FOOD: It was good.. not gourmet amazing, but filled me up. We had some potato skins and toasted ravioli, both of which hit the spot. For dinner I had the loaded potato topped with pork. The pork was good enough and the potato was well sized. It did have a bit too much cheese for me, but wasn't enough to ruin it. Everyone else said their food was good. Used to be really good, Im not sure what happened. Service was slow. My mom ordered the special, Lasagna and all of the rest of the food came out but hers didnt. She finally got it- nearly 20 minutes later. Asked for a box and didnt get that either. The pasta dish next to me was soaked in oil and grease. Visited for Alton's Restaurant week and knew what the special was supposed to be. Unfortunately, the server didn't have a clue. The appetizer and salads arrived at the same moment. My husbands fork looked grungy but was replaced quickly. The steak was okay but nothing I would order again. I chose the seasoned waffle fries and they were hot when they arrived but had cooled significantly by the time the ketchup bottle was replaced. I ate three and left about twenty. The dessert was reminiscent of a Pet Ritz chocolate cream pie and was still frozen when served. Not a satisfying dining event. read more

I went here for lunch yesterday with my two aunts and cousin. They weren't very busy when we came in, but they filled up shortly after. I usually balk at such a large menu, because in my experience, it means the food isn't quality because they've got too many dishes to focus on. This experience was different! The food was great! The service was good, too! The server had our drinks full always! The blooming onion wasn't greasy at all, which pleased us greatly! I had the squeeze play wrap, which was delicious! My side Caesar was a little overdressed, but I should have asked for light dressing because I like less than most people do. The portions are HUGE! The rest of the table got a quesadilla, Ham and provel sandwich, and the rigatoni verano. It all looked delicious and everyone seemed to enjoy it! Well definitely be back to try more soon. Only gripe I have is that the bathroom was freeeeeezing! It could use a little heater or something! read more

The only thing this place has to offer is cheap drinks. The bartenders and servers are too worried about sharing gossip, smoking, and drinking behind the bar in such a showy way - but at least it doesn't leave you wondering why you've been waiting for your empty drink to be replaced for awhile. One night the credit card system was down and we were only alerted after the card was swiped and we were asked to keep the card there (absolutely not.) Especially since we heard the owner say "well, I guess you'll be getting good tips tonight!" Completely unprofessional and really irresponsible, not even warning current patrons that the system was down. I've given this place a few chances, but like I said in the beginning, "cheap" is all that comes to mind. read more

Went today for lunch. On a no carb diet. I ordered cheeseburger, asked if I could substitute a side salad instead of fries? The waitress said yes for an up charge. Long story short a cheeseburger with no bun or fries a side salad and a tea to drink was over 18.00. Cheeseburger and fries was 9.95 on the menu.The waitress charged me full price for the side salad. There's a difference between an up charge and full price. She said, that what they just do when I asked about it. FYI , I've done this at other restaurants wasn't charged full price. She was drunk, throwing things at customers, dropping glass bottles, stumbling everywhere, risking the safety of the other members of the bar staff. Love Regal Beagle's food, but the past TWO times we've tried to go, they close early. (Coming from a food service background, that doesn't really make sense to me because we never closed early but whatever). The first time was still disappointing but didn't rub me the wrong way like this last one did. We even called to make sure they were open, and not even 5 minutes later we got there and they told us they were closed... So just be prepared to have a back up plan if you go there at night, because their hours apparently don't mean anything. read more

It's not a bad place. Their patio is a nice place to hang out and drink a few brews with friends. I had the pizza here once, and it was pretty good. I have to say, though, that I don't come here very often when I'm in Alton/Godfrey because of how it's been like a high school reunion with the people you liked least. If you're in your 20s and went to Alton High, and you come on a Friday or Saturday, chances are you're going to run into one of those douchebags you hated growing up. The menu prices here are amazing for the St. Louis area. The salads are huge. The steak salad comes with about 8 ounces of steak on a huge plate with a ton of vegetables and blue cheese and a slightly sweet house dressing. The waffle fries and cheese tots are a great value. Look for drink specials, there are often $2 domestic drafts and $5 margaritas. The hangover burger is a half pound of been with ham and a fried egg on top. If you have a burger appetizer and a couple of drinks you're only at about $25 with tip. This same meal would cost you $40 in Chesterfield. I'd highly recommend this place. read more

I am a local resident who has frequented this sports bar several times. The food is good, except I'm not so thrilled with the pizza. Appetizers are outstanding and there are plenty of television monitors. Sometimes the live entertainment is good, while other times it is painful. My biggest criticism and why I have ranked them low is the service. It's like they hire any warm body off the street and give them no training whatsoever. Yesterday I sat for 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged I was there. A server came by with a menu and asked what I wanted to drink. I asked for a Bud Light and she disappeared. Mind you I was in the outside seating a mere couple of steps from the bar. Bartender was standing around chatting with other servers and I never saw my server again. Finally I grabbed the attention of another server who immediately got my beer and said "I'm not sure where the other girl went but I'm not going to chase her down. I'll take your order". I was appreciative that another took the place of an AWOL server, but I doubt that would have happened if I hadn't said something. This isn't the first time I've been there where I felt like I must be invisible. I really doubt I'll be back. read more

The food was mostly bland and very unimaginative. The portions were HUGE, and if I was only hungry, this may have made me happy. The one thing in its favor was that we were, in spite of all the televisions vying for our attention, actually able to have a conversation because the audio was not on and the acoustics were good. "THIS" visit we noticed a radically expanded menu selection, with item descriptives , scripted obviously by a Pulitzer Wizard further enhanced by drool producing photography; assuming that ROPERS was 'Kickin it UP a Notch' ......... WRONG !!!! I had the IXTAPA CHICKEN BACON TACOS; they arrived with brimming proportions ( a vegetative collage topping and adorned by some methodical Nuevo sauce squiggled over the 3 Taco order. The filling was comprised of minuscule chicken breast morsels ( I assume .... but could easily been minced 'Popes Nose' [ fatty ass chicken butt ] ? ) and bits of bacon that had a salt content twice that of THE DEAD SEA . I ate one taco from the end over an appetizer plate.... struggling to be appreciative of my Nephews treat ..... and JUST COULDN'T !! The serving platter was honestly swimming in super saturated orange colored FAT and I assure anyone that it was not Paprika infused olive oil ! When my Nephew asked " what's wrong " I suggested he try one, and his selection from the middle had a chicken/ bacon filling still cold to the touch from the cooler, needless to say ONE BITE was ENOUGH for HIM ‼ My Nephew ordered the CUBAN Sandwich with a bare smattering of Pulled Pork within and at best could be called 'FOOD ' . There is no trademark on a Cuban Sandwich but at least attempt a semblance of 'authenticity' ....... THATS CULINARY STRIKE # 2 for Roper's Regal Beagle at one meal on one table . Now, the server ; Upon asking if we wanted go boxes,and I believe our response was ""GOD, NO "" followed by a visual review of the puddle of saturated fat on the plate, shebecame incensed .... with a PICKLE PUSS and ROLLED EYES ! She returned to the table with a $5 credit along with a sour attitude ???? MY FELLOW YELPERS !! Always accept the intuitive validity of " FIRST IMPRESSIONS " ! We entered Roper's through the (patio) Penalty Box door , but with the cold weather outside the cigarette smoke was heavy . Upon navigating to the alternative dining room the help was mumbling and grumbling about the ludicrous work expectations/ conditions........ ""THAT"" IS A REALLY BAD SIGN ‼. I regret not turning around and going to any other of Madison Counties POSITIVE DINING EXPERIENCES ( UHHHH , my Nephew so wanted to go to Fast Eddies for those delectable tenderloin kabobs....... The Regal Beagle is a great place, I'm not from the area and spend a few days a month around this area on work projects, and this is a place I came back to, two nights in a row. First time had an outstanding signature sandwich that is heated up in the wood oven, very fresh and tasty. The second night a went for the wood oven pizza, so many to choose from and the crust is so chewy fresh and the woman sitting next to me at the bar said it smells great. Took back a couple pieces to a co worker and he loved it too. Great spot. read more

The Regal Beagle was recommended to us by a local. My husband and I arrived around 6:30 pm on Saturday. The outside bar was hopping. We opted for eating in the restaurant as we prefer to not be near smokers. Walking into the restaurant, we passed the salad bar. It was incredibly messy and dirty (salad dressing smeared and flies hovering). During the entire time we were there, no employee restocked or cleaned the salad bar. We ordered the fried raviolis, which were really good. My husband ordered the Chicken Picatta and I ordered Chicken Milano. Our salads arrived (thankfully we were in view of the salad bar so we knew they were not made there). Within 2 minutes our entrees arrived. The chicken picatta had a very thick sauce that was so lemony that my husband, who orders this dish in other restaurants all the time, had to scrape the sauce to the side. The chicken milano also had a thick sauce. The sauce tasted okay, but the fried chicken beneath it was so greasy it ruined the dish. Neither of us finished our even half our meals. The staff was friendly, but it did not make up for the sub-par main dishes. We definitely do not recommend this restaurant. read more

First, I'll preface by saying that we have been to Regal Beagle for Mother's Day brunch a few times, so when we had the opportunity to grab a drink and some food without the kids, we were excited to be so close. We ordered a couple beers and our food. My wife ordered the Chicken Quesadilla and I ordered the Smoked Goodfella. After about 20 minutes and a couple apologies from the waitress, my wife's quesadilla came out. She shared with me so I can tell you it was great. plenty of fixings served on the side and the tortilla was crispy but not burnt. After having been there about an hour, my wife was finished with her Quesadilla and my pizza hadn't been finished. The waitress said the kitchen had a lot of orders from the patio for wood fired wings and pizzas. I told her to forget about the pizza and just bring us the check. When she brought the check the pizza was in a to-go box. While I was disappointed in the timing, the pizza was still good when I got home 1/2 hour later! The patio didn't look all that busy, so I'm not sure about their excuse. Also, I don't think it would have killed the manager to stop by and confirm what the waitress said. I would say this falls squarely on management. I'm not sure I'll go back, but if I don't, it's not because the food is lacking in any way! read more

The chicken cavendish, when gotten for take out and the butter packets for the baked potato melt and mix with the already creamy sauce, is heaven. Other than that this place is okay. Bartenders are hit or miss. Good place to meet for a drink and run into some people you'd rather not. So I was here last weekend, June 23rd. The day of the Susan G. Komen race in St Louis. The group decided to stop in here for lunch and it was good. Even though I was still full from my Shakeology at breakfast, a beer on the walk (Rye IPA from Buffalo Brewing Co). I decided to go with what I thought was going go to be a small appetizer. It was not small but it was delicious. I got the Southwestern Egg Rolls and they were great. I loved that it came with a big salad in between the egg rolls. I told myself I would only eat half and save the rest for later. That ended up not happening because next thing you know, I looked at my plate and it was empty. I had eaten it all. The service was also very good. I love an attentive server. She made a good tip from our table. I do recommend going there, everything that everyone at my table had was good. I booked the golf simulator for me and a couple of my buddies to meet up and play. I booked online over 24 hours in advance. When I got there, we set our clubs in the back room with the 2 simulators. There was another group in there on the other simulator playing. We waited around for awhile for someone to come back, but no one showed so we went up to the main bar. I told the bartender that we were back there and had tee times and she sent someone our way. The waitress came back and took food and drink orders. She then told us we couldn't golf because it was already booked. So I showed my email, then she said that one was broken and I should have gotten a call about it. No one ever contacted me other than reminders of the tee time. So we decided to just stick around and eat. The food was okay, but the service was pretty slow for the amount of people there. Good place to stop by when hopping around getting drinks, but not a place I'd plan an outing to. read more

Very impressed! This was by far the best bar food we've ever had. The menu is very extensive, so plenty of options. We got several appetizers: potato skins, wings and chicken strips. They were all great. For dinner I got the Mediterranean wood fire pizza which was excellent. My husband got the Philly sandwich which was unique with their cheese sauce on it.
