Dr. Yau has a kind, compassionate, and gentle manner and I am always pleasantly surprised when he takes a genuine interest in my life, what I've been up to, etc. answers all my questions, and doesn't rush with anything. (Which explains why nobody gets their appointment on time. :) ) I also appreciate the other staff. One time I had painful 2nd degree burns from an accident; couldn't really go anywhere, and one of the nurse practitioners "held my hand" through text messages, advising me on wound care at home. The same thing happened another time when I had an infected spider bite. My only minor complaint is how busy they are and sometimes phone calls are not returned, or questions take an extra phone call to be addressed.

My mother (an inpatient RN) was evaluated here for joint issues and was placed on two months of medical leave by her provider. However, when we requested completion of the SDI (DE 2501 Part B) form, the office refused and told us she needed to attend physical therapy first. We followed that instruction, only to have the physical therapy office clarify that they do not complete SDI certification--this must be done by the treating medical provider. When we returned, the front desk then insisted she would not qualify for disability, which is not their role to determine. Eligibility is decided by the California Employment Development Department, not administrative staff. This resulted in unnecessary delays, multiple visits, and completely avoidable confusion during a time-sensitive situation. More concerning is the lack of consistency--placing a patient on medical leave while simultaneously refusing to complete the required documentation does not make sense. Patients should not be sent back and forth or given incorrect information. If the office chooses not to complete disability forms, that policy should be clearly communicated upfront rather than shifting responsibility and providing misleading guidance. Just to be fair, the first NP encounter my mom had was pleasant and professional. But the administrative handling was disorganized and unprofessional. This process needs to be addressed.

So then asked if there was any other medical needs or questions i needed to ask the doctor today? and when i said no, she refunded me my copay. A week later, someone from their office called me and asked me to come in so i can discuss my blood results with a doctor. They also gave me the option to do this over the phone and SURPRISE!!!! THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME ANOTHER COPAY!!!! At my old PCP, they did not charge me a second copay for discussing my results. if you don't want to be nickeled and dimed for everything, then i suggest you look for another doctor's office. The Nutri Eval and GI tests were especially eye opening and gave me a comprehensive look at my health that I would have never been able to get from the basic, standard blood tests (cholesterol, iron levels, etc) in a regular doctor's office. These tests have helped me change the way I eat and have helped me transform my health. The wait can sometimes be a bit long, but she really does take her time with you. This has nothing to do with Doctor Kaneko, I have never even seen her. And the PA Maria was incredible, she's the one I saw the first time I went to the office. Today I had a telehealth appointment, I thought with Maria, but it was instead with James Miyasaki. Do not ever see this PA if you actually want to feel heard or seen! I've never had a doctor ask me questions about symptoms or whatever it may be, and then I'm answering and while I'm answering, he keeps saying mmhm, mhmm, yea... like I literally could not even finish a sentence or actually express what was going on with me because he clearly wasn't listening, and he kept talking over me. Then he wanted to refer me to a specialist that had nothing to do with what I was talking to him about, and then when I asked why he's recommending that particular kind of specialty, instead of explaining himself, he just brushed it off and said OK never mind I'll give you the other referrals that you asked for. I'm only assuming because he wasn't listening to me and didn't even know what I was talking about, and then realized that that was not the specialist that I needed. Then he didn't even go over my labs, which was the main point of that telehealth appointment. Then I spoke to the front desk which they were very dismissive as well, which is very weird because the first time I went there they were very friendly and very nice. Obviously the doctor did not like me for whatever reason and must've said something to them, because they were not supportive of me when they got back on the line. After talking to them, they put the PA back on the phone to go over my lab results. Mind you I already had my lab reports so I saw all the numbers. I wanted to have the numbers explained to me and what I can do to improve my labs. Instead, he just talked about the numbers and what was out of range, what was in range, and then when I proceeded to ask him if those are things I need to be worried about? Or how do I fix them? He laughed and then said I already explained that ma'am. Then I told him no you didn't, you just told me numbers and I want to understand how to fix them. I did not even get that entire sentence out before He told me to hold on and put me on hold back to the front desk. And yes, I did raise my voice and I said excuse me sir you're not even listening, so yes I did raise my voice, but I didn't know what else to do because he literally was not listening to what I was asking. I cried so hard because that was so incredibly rude, he didn't even care to help me with anything, and then when the staff got back on the line and literally did not help me or care about my feelings at all in the situation I just got his name and hung up and just cried my eyes out. It's Healthcare professionals like this of why people don't go to the doctor because they don't feel seen or heard or feel like they can be helped. This PA needs a Real wake up call into fix his bedside manners. I don't even understand why he would be a healthcare professional if you don't care to help people, or even listen to people. And as for the front staff, woman to woman I thought that she would be more understanding and help me, or at least make me feel understood or heard, but she basically dismissed me and made me feel like I was the problem. I am so incredibly distraught.

They are all so helpful and easy to work with and open to listening to all of your concerns, and they will address it by running the labs or diagnostics needed to address those concerns. This is something I really love and respect a lot about their facility because there are a lot of other facilities out there that brush off patient concerns as "just worried" and then don't order any follow up labs or referrals for those patient concerns, but here they will listen to your concerns and treat the patients concerns with respect and follow up on it. On top of that it is a breeze to get an appointment here and the out-of-insurance pay or insurance copay are all very reasonable and affordable compared to big facilities that take weeks or months to get seen that charge an arm and a leg in comparison. Yesterday I went back again for an appointment and once again Anthony was awesome and super helpful and Jenna was so patient with all of my questions and concerns and I loved that she had no hesitation in looking further into or addressing all of them (ie lab requests, referrals, prescriptions, etc). Because of this I will want to make more frequent visits because they make it all so much easier and pleasant and enjoyable to stay on top of my concerns for my health :) thank you to Dr Phan and his wonderful team, he knows how to pick a great bunch :)

The staff also wears gloves when handling bodily fluids or when touching patients. There are some hand sanitizers available for patients to use. This place is open and available with limited capacity. They are sanitizing in between patients. I mention these things in my reviews for the sake of protecting immunocompromised people like the elderly and people sick with cancer and other illnesses. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was here in this establishment, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is behind the building and it is very small. The lot does get full quickly, so you may have to find some street parking, but that shouldn't be an issue. Establishment: The establishment itself is very clean, neat, tidy, small, and organized. They recently moved to a new location, and I love everything except the parking lot because it's so small. A nice upgrade in office space. Yay! Staff: The staff here are very friendly, kind, warm, welcoming, and helpful. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum. And dare I say it was a very pleasant visit to Dr. Jen's office for the most part... compared to other doctor visits I've been to, going to Dr. Jen definitely won't be daunting compared to others I've been to. My first impression of the place was already a good start, with a very friendly staff and I appreciate that this place seems to keep things in order where I seemed to be the only patient in the office at the time (which is great for the pandemic situation). Dr. Jen was very thorough in my check-up and I specifically came here to also get a pap smear all at once. Very professional throughout, including his female staff member. The pap smear wasn't all that bad (granted my body wasn't cooperating for part of it but that's not his fault) and he made sure I was comfortable the whole time too. Logistics-wise, it was about 3 months out from when I made my appointment call, but I was ok with it since I didn't have an urgent reason. Office itself is in a good location. It's on the 3rd floor and you can find the entrance to the elevators next to the pharmacy. Bonus for the lab being downstairs if you need to get your blood drawn in the future after the doctor's visit, so it's nice that everything you need is in one location. There's free parking around the building and I didn't have trouble snagging a spot on a Friday afternoon.
