Felix's BBQ with Soul should come with a warning: you may start planning your next visit before you…read morefinish your meal. We ordered the catfish, beef brisket, and cornbread, and every bite delivered. The catfish was perfectly crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, and seasoned so well it deserved its own standing ovation. The brisket was so tender it practically surrendered to the fork. And the cornbread? Let's just say if they sold it by the pan, we'd be leaving with one tucked under each arm. The atmosphere was just as enjoyable as the food. Great soul music filled the room, but at the perfect volume where you could still have an easy conversation without shouting across the table. It created a warm, relaxed vibe that made us want to stay awhile. To top it all off, the staff was absolutely amazing. Friendly, welcoming, attentive, and genuinely happy to see their guests enjoying themselves. You can tell this isn't just a restaurant, it's a place built with heart. We came hungry, left happy, and are already trying to figure out an excuse to "just happen to be in the neighborhood" again. If you're anywhere near San Marcos, do yourself a favor and stop by Felix's BBQ with Soul. Your taste buds will thank you!

I genuinely avoid this place at all costs but I get dragged here by friends and clients. The quality of the food has deteriorated to such a level that it's genuinely inedible. And to top it all off, the last time I came here, they shrunk the menu, took away the side options, and STILL raised the prices. (You aren't struggling because of the quality of your food. This place is just miserable) 3 visits ago, a couple months back, I ordered a burger because tbh, how can you mess that up? I ordered a double patty with no fries. Of course there was only ONE patty left in the entire restaurant, oh well such is life, but to top it off: the patty smelled of rotten sewage. I spit it out and returned it without receiving any sort of refund. 2 visits ago, I ordered catfish nuggets because of my previous experience, and was served soggy fried fish with dripping wet cabbage like it was just pulled out of a colander without drying. Whatever right? ($24 pre tax/tip btw) Now yesterday, I ordered a grilled catfish filet because the fried version was disappointing. (WHICH TOOK 40 MINUTES OF MY LUNCH BREAK TO COOK?) Fish was meh. Over seasoned like someone spilled the pepper bottle on the grill. And the fries tasted like dirty sludge like the fryer hasn't been cleaned in weeks. And to add insult to injury, I tasted mildew in my Coke Zero. Whether it's the dishwasher or the lines in the soda machine I have no clue but how can I strike out every single time I come here? I swear this used to be MY JOINT. The food was so good and the ambiance was amazing. Now I genuinely feel my skin crawl whenever I walk by this place. I'm sorry Felix's do better. I'm incredibly tempted to report this place to the health department to whip some shape into these miserable people who are serving mediocre service to paying customers. The only reason I'm writing this is because I'm now sitting at home with a 101° fever and a swollen tonsil after coincidentally taking a giant gulp of moldy soda? Idk man

The location has a pretty extensive menu written in chalk on the walk, and it's easy to read. There are choices of sandwiches, salads and a lot of great food in-between. After taking a minute to decide we went with the Southwest Chicken Salad ($16.99) as well as the Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich ($15.99) with a side of hushpuppies. The sauce on the salad was flavorful with just a bit of zest, and they gave us extra so that was really cool. It's a really comfy place to eat with a little bit of a Louisiana feel to it. For good food served by good people, this is the place!

On a Wednesday, we stopped by H Brothers for lunch. Located in downtown Escondido, this bar and…read morerestaurant was recommended to me by one of my Yelp friends. We found free parking on the street a block or two down from the restaurant. Service (4/5): You order at the counter and then they bring your food to you. A couple of things stand out to me about their service. I was looking at the menu and was about to order. Someone behind me cut in line without asking if I was ready to order. The lady working noticed this and asked me to order first. Humanity still exists! They also check on your periodically even though this isn't true table service which is a nice touch. On the flip side, they did try and upsell me to add bacon bits to my dish which I was all for until I saw it was a $3.50 upcharge. I asked them to remove it. A little too steep. Ambiance (4/5): My type of restaurant. Casual with some charm. We sat at a table across from the bar. They have some cool decor, too. No complaints. Drinks (4/5): I had a beer flight because I often can't say no to a flight. I love the variety and being able to try new beers, especially when I'm traveling. While they don't have a huge selection, they had just enough beers that were interesting for me to take the plunge. Food (4/5): I did the country poutine which comes with fries, gravy, fried chicken bites, and green onions. I'm a sucker for loaded fries so I couldn't say no. Especially for this twist on a classic poutine. Generous portion size as I had hoped. A little more chicken would have been nice, but outside of that, very solid.

We ordered the tri-tip slider, cheesy fries with meat (not totally sure which cut), mac and cheese, and a couple of beers. The tri-tip slider was delicious--simple, flavorful, and really well done. The cheesy fries were also a highlight, loaded with meat, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños, cheese, and barbecue sauce. Definitely a satisfying dish with a good mix of flavors. The mac and cheese was a bit of a mixed bag. I had heard great things about it, and while it was good, it was topped with crumbled Ritz crackers that didn't really add much. I think the intention was to bring in some crunch, but it didn't enhance the dish and slightly took away from the overall flavor. Service was great--our waitress was friendly and attentive, and she even brought us warm cookies at the end, which was a really nice touch

We took like a bite of each of our items, paid, & left within the span of 10 minutes AFTER getting our food max. The service was taking a very long time before that, granted it seemed there was only one server & he was nice but they need more then, I'm not dogging on him at all. It also smelled not good when we walked in, just an overabundance of cleaner smell. When we got the food, I took a bite of my ribs & it was literally just bone. I got MAYBE 2 pinky fingers worth of meat. My chicken ("1/4" of chicken) was smaller than the palm of my hand, mind you, I have very small hands. Our toast was literally just Texas toast from the grocery store that you freeze & put in your oven, that's it. The Mac & cheese was velveeta cheese on buttered noodles with cheese itz on top, cold as well. We didn't even try our fries that we paid extra for. I left hungry, which at a bbq spot I should feel overfed if anything. It's crazy to say, but I literally thought "this restaurant should be on kitchen nightmares". Enjoy the photo of this basically quail chicken leg compared to my hand. The only chicken I got. The whole meal between us both was $60 for something I could've microwaved at home.

This is how you do it folks!…read more Been here three times and we've had different dishes every time and so far everything is delicious. Service is on point, like I said I've been here three times in probably 5 months and the crazy thing is on both return trips the guy recognized me like this is the epitome of mom & pop business right here. You feel seen and you realize the money your paying for your delicious food is going to real folks and not some corporate overlord nonsense. The vibe of the place is an industrial-esque sports bar the style that was super popular during the hipster face of restauranteering where everyone was going for the stripped down minimalist aesthetic but for this place it works. They have high seats, low seats and a couple TVs playing live sports with no real obstructions. We always come at off peak hours so I'm not sure how packed it would get but this seems like a good place to catch a PPV fight or something IF they don't pack everyone in like sardines. The food, jeez I should have probably made this the start of the review the food is decadent. EVERY dish we've tried has been packed with flavor, healthy portions, and fair prices. I recommend anything on the menu but if you want to get out of your comfort zone get the balkan fries, they're so good you won't regret it! This is the kind of place you want to see in business the people rock, the food is great, and you feel like part of the community patronizing here.
