This is a problem. I can never look at pizza the same again. I literally booked a flight from California for three weeks later, after coming home from New York, to have more slices of Rosario's pizza. I nearly cried when I had my first bite. And to those saying it's too crispy - go eat somewhere else, and don't ruin it for the rest of us.. or grow some taste buds. This is how the lord intended pizza to be made. I'm kicking myself for having been going to that other dumb place with the red writing all these years - never again. The arancini (rice balls) were to die for as well. Rosario's lovely, super sweet and super welcoming daughter, who was skillfully baking and serving the pies during my visit, made the whole experience even more pleasant. The grocery selection was very special and had many hard to find Italian items. The fridge had 4 different brands of my favorite Italian soda flavor, which I have trouble finding even one of. This upcoming visit I will definitely be getting a sandwich to pack for my return flight. Truly one of the wonders of America which should never be taken for granted. I had a margherita slice, the dough was very tasty and the pizza was more acidic and wasn't as sweet as I'm used to but it was goodI was charged $22 for margherita even though on their website and delivery apps it was priced at $20(a little weird since they usually upcharge a little) I'm not sure why was charged more for phoning an order. read more

Rosario's has ludicrously good pizza for the price, perhaps even beating out fancy locations that charge many times more. They use an authentic brick oven and incredibly fresh ingredients to achieve a mindbogglingly good tasting pizza that is light, airy, and not oily or heavy. Their deli is also stocked with most every variety of meat and cheese, and countless gourmet ingredients. From what I tried of the deli meat it was kept incredibly fresh compared to your standard supermarket deli. There is a reason it has been around this long, emphatic recommend. read more

The place is great !!!!!!!! When you walk in look straightahead that's that's all you got to see. The little old man who is 98 years old in the year 2022 says hello to you and he says goodbye to you when you leave and if you don't get a whole and if you don't get a goodbye don't feel bad maybe he just missed you but he don't miss too many people. Step off the subway and step into an incredible Italian grocery/pizza shop/deli. Located as you walk down the platform of the elevated subway, you'll find a neighborhood staple. Packed with Italian grocery goodies, a full deli with fresh sausage and the best pizza shop in the area. I think that's more than enough. The place has this old time vibe but fresh flavors. It feels like a hangout joint since the staff is so friendly and the customers so very loyal. So much to recommend here for sure but you want something that never misses? Rosarios is such a solid spot! You can't really tell it's a pizza place, but when you walk in you'll find the mini display in the back. The pizza is super fresh almost always and really great. I'm shocked it wasn't in the 8s on one bite but anyway. The Italian meats, cheeses, and veggies are so good. This is an Italian deli that just happens to offer pizza (among other wonderful edibles) and whatever pizza they have, they will eventually sell out of at the end of the day. The appeal lies in the simplicity of the ingredients - which for these thin crust pies include just a smattering of sauce, cheese, and a delightful crunch to the crust. Both the pepperoni and the plain margherita get my approval anytime. The sandwiches deserve a mention as well. From hot parm to a killer cold Italian combo, they know exactly what they're doing. The wonderful aroma of fresh bread never ceases to amaze me, especially when combined with fresh mozzarella, sundried tomatoes, and some form of a quality cold cuts. Do not sleep on the chicken cutlet, it is among the most satisfying sandwiches in the borough. Then there are the imported products from Italy. Rosario's isn't unique in this regard, but they've done a great job of taking the guess work out of everything with the placement and layout within the store. Got a sandwich here this past weekend to take to work on Monday. I kept it easy with just some proscuitto di Parma. They didn't have a sharp cheese for slicing, so the counterman talked me into their homemade fresh mozzarella, which wasn't exactly a hard sell as I know it's great. After selecting my loaf of bread, the counterman was also nice enough to suggest packing the mozzarella and roasted red peppers separately to avoid it turning soggy. Rosario was around as well, as always, but luckily the rest of his staff are just as good. I paid and left to have a great dinner nearby. The sandwich held up great. the proscuitto di Parma was applied heavily and was high quality stuff. The bread was great, as you could expect it to be by their pizza--which is now offered by the pie by the way! The mozzarella was as great as I remember. The roasted red peppers were good, but boy do they use plenty of garlic! I put this thing together on Monday, and boy were my co-workers jealous. With the toppings applied judiciously by yours truly, it was an epic sandwich. It was also easily big enough to save half for the next day, and I am by NO means have a small appetite. The sandwich with everything cost $10 and change. If I bought it in Midtown, it would've been $15, less than half the size, made with cheaper ingredients, and I would've gotten a side of shitty service to go with it. I wish I lived nearby here just so I could be a regular. You really can't beat a place like Rosario's. Between here and L'Incontro, I'll be back a lot sooner than last time. read more

Wonderful family run old-school NY Italian deli. While the store is well stocked with Italian foodstuffs, I come here for the sandwiches. There isn't really a menu, so you pretty much can ask for whatever you want. The staff here is friendly and helpful, so don't be afraid to ask for some suggestions if you going freestyle freaks you out. I usually ask for some combination of fresh mozz, sun dried tomatoes, eggplant, roasted red peppers and artichokes. Sometimes I'll replace the eggplant with salami, but for the most part I try to stay veg when its I can do so without compromising flavor and wholesomeness, and you will never have a problem feeling satisfied and full after eating one of their creations. Often times, I'll eat one half, and save the other for later, as one whole sandwich is usually too much. Another great item at Rosario's is the pizza. It may rank among the better slices around, and certainly worth a try. If its busy, and you're looking at a wait, sometimes you can take down a slice before you're order is ready. I'm really glad to have these guys in the 'hood. They're a great group of guys, and really take pride in making some great food. Do yourself a favor, and eat well while supporting a great local business at one of the last places around where you can get a great meal (or two ;) for well under $10. read more

Do yourself a favor, and order a sandwich as proof this is the best grocer/deli in town. I most highly recommend a roast beef and provalone--because both the roast beef and provalone are outstanding here--on a fresh baked roll, or get an Italian sub and appreciate that it may be the first time you ever had fresh made mozarella on a sandwhich in your life--made on the premises, daily. Great food is half about the ingredients, and Rosario's has them as well as the other half of great food which is skill. Then note the price, about $4. Literally, the 'best deal in town.' Wait in line behind gourmet chefs and aged Italian master cook housewives at high traffic times. But only sometimes. If you're headed there the day before some big holiday you're guaranteed to wait, but it will be worth it. If you are waiting, it will most likely only be two or three people ahead of you, but they'll be stocking up for a real banquet, or have a list of ingredients they need for the week. I always say that if you buy it at Rosario's it's the best you could get, irrespective of whether it's Italian or not. Rosario is Italian, so the grocery is Italian, but they carry brands and items from many other countries--including Boar's Head if it's good enough. The number one thing chefs go in there for it seems is procciuto (spelling?). It's not overspiced or oversalted--the genuine article. At their root, they're grocers, the best grocers you'll find. And while it can certainly be labeled a gourmet Italian deli, they certainly don't build on that theme with high prices and slick presentation. Rosario's is a genuine, quality family place--the kind New York used to be famous for but most of which have gone big commercial (like Junior's of Brooklyn for instance). If you speak Italian or want to learn some, this would certainly be the place to get the sound of the language in your head. I come here to pick up their cold cuts and Italian non-perishables. This place, in a way, is a mini version of Eataly, with better pricing. They carry a good variety of Italian goods, like cookies, dry pasta, sauces and canned goods. One can certainly find these things at other shops but you can be sure that Rosario's have them well priced, not to mention it would be supporting a local family business. Also, they also carry Casselini's raviolis in their freezer by the pizza counter. The service here is friendly, the guys behind the counter are always polite. You'll never get any lazy, thick slices on your cold cuts unless you ask for it. My favorites here are prosciutto di parma and hot/spicy soppressata. The real deal, old-school Italian grocer and deli, with the cast of in-house personalities to go along with it. ;-) Astorians MUST be sure to support places like this, which seem to be dying one-by-one, due to predatory 'developers' and R.E. brokers. who egg owners on to jack-up their rents and/or only sell to the highest-bidders versus accepting 'reasonable offers' (by only accepting highest bidders it inflates the market, making it harder for everybody...the average buyer, the average renter, the average small business owner, etc.) We don't want Astoria to just be a place for chain stores, big-name banks and pharmacies, hipster bars and restaurants, and Astoria 'newbies' moving in and appearing in all the restaurants and coffeeshops with their strollers. Can you say Park Slope? B-burg? Blech! UPDATE: In fact on the very day I wrote this review, I went to Rosario's to pick up a hunk of parm and romano, so I can have freshly-grated cheese for my homemade pasta dinner. And what do I see en route, but yet another new place opening up a few buildings down (called 'QNZ' or something...sounds hipster-ish to me.). There used to be a sign near the front door that advertised a free bottle of water for buying two slices of pizza. But every time I would check out with the water, they seem to have amnesia and try to charge me for the water. Every single time I have to remind them of the sign outside.
